A couple months ago I had brake work carried out on my RAM pickup truck at the Bells Corners Ottawa Ontario location. On completion of the work the service manager (Randy) advised me that a number of the wheel studs had been cross threaded. He offered to rethread the studs, free of charge, if I were to return with new lug nuts. It is worth noting that one day after I had the service completed that my right front hub cap came off while driving, and lost. A couple weeks ago I returned to the shop with new lug nuts to have the studs rethreaded (where needed) & have the new nuts installed. The vehicle was in the shop for little over 30 minutes when I was summoned by Randy to observe the left rear wheel studs. One had become completely stripped and unusable. Randy's solution was to go back to the dealer to have the stud replaced. When preparing to depart Randy advised that 1 hour of work had been completed on my vehicle but he would only charge me for 1/2 hour. I reminded him that a couple months ago he had offered to complete the service for free. He said he had to charge me despite his earlier offer. Rather than get in an argument I paid him the approximate $60. After my departure I started to reflex on my experience at this Midas garage: 1. I had wheel service conducted & lost a wheel disc shortly after, without any offer of compensation, 2. I had been offered free service, when in fact I was charged $60, and 3. After service at this garage I was required to go to a Dodge dealer to repair the damage done, an expensive service. With this in mind I called Randy the following day to display my displeasure. After much discussion he offered to reimburse the $60, if I were to return to his shop. I suggested that would be very inconvenient and asked to have the funds returned to me by a mailed cheque, to which he agreed. It has now been 2 weeks and there has not been a reimbursement cheque. It would be an understatement to state that "I am extremely displeased with the service at this Midas garage"; as such it has soured the brand in my eyes, and I have no intention to ever use their services in the future. Additional Note - After placing my review on line (last week), I received a call from Jan (Assistant Manager) offering to reimburse me the approximate $60. I provided my credit card information 4 days ago and my credit card account still does not reflect the credit. I have now had the deficiencies noted above corrected by the dealer at a cost of $925. This is my third visit to Midas on Main Street and I am BEYOND satisfied with the service I have received!! Each time I come in, the front counter staff are inviting and make me feel comfortable while I wait for my car. Their waiting room has a TV as well as a Keurig which makes waiting easier. As a young woman I have always felt intimidated bringing my vehicles to repair shops as I don't know a lot about cars. That being said, I consider myself a good judge of character and I always feel I can trust what I am being told about my car. The owner, Miles, took a lot of time explaining an issue with my timing belt and even used an actual timing belt and associated parts to physically show me how it worked and how the associated parts would affect the belt. You learn something new everyday and I'm so glad I did! I will remember Miles' explanation and will be better informed in making repair decisions in future with this car and any vehicles I may own in future. Also, like everyone else I am very busy and I so greatly appreciate that the staff at Midas on Main street call me one to two days after my appointments to check in and see if I am satisfied. I had a question regarding tires after my last appointment but forgot to ask and kept forgetting to call them. Luckily, they called me as a followup and I was able to get the answer to my question. I understand why shops are reluctant to repair cars when aftermarket parts (in my case a big brake kit with ss brake lines) are involved, after all they're in business, and the more streamlined the job, the more money they make - fair enough, they're not a charity. Prior to dropping off my car the folks at Midas - 1688 Main St., Vancouver discussed possible causes of my braking issue, and cited common issues. This can be a dangerous road as it can build up an expectation that can backfire should they "guess" incorrectly, and the necessary repair ends up being completely different and/or more costly. After they assessed the leak, they were very up front about the issue, called me up and went over a few scenarios. Basically they ended up loosening and re-tighten a few fittings (NO CHARGE), and sent me on my way. Of course they were clear that I'm to monitor their repair to ensure it's no longer a problem. In a world where so many view the auto repair trade as one of a pack of crooks, today the folks at Midas proved that notion an unfair one. Thanks guys. I have been going to various auto service locations around the city for years trying to find one where I trust the staff, as I have been ripped off numerous times. This place is the best! The desk staff always recognize me when I walk in, even if I haven't made an appointment - and I don't care whether they're actually recognizing me or if they pull up my car and customer info as I park, because that's personalized service either way. Apparently they are under new management as of last year or the year before, and it's definitely an improvement... They take excellent care of my 15 year old car and I trust them 100%: I just tell them to fix whatever needs it, and they phone me with different pricing options and advice before anything is done. Somehow they never need to do as much or charge as much as the other places I've visited, and they tell me my car is in awesome shape (which it is!). I recently bought some snow tires at this location that work better than anything I've used before. Keep up the super work, guys! read more

I brought a Passat 2005 TDI here because of an oil leak. Manager stated they would look at it and let em know the issue and depending the issue they would fix it. Brought the car in and got a call about 15 minutes later stating that they need to do an ooil change because the oil is black so they could see the dye they put in..... Now, with the Diesel engine, the minute you turn the engine on the oil turns black. no ifs or buts. I said sure because i didn't find this out from a VW expert until after the oil change. They then called me shortly later to come pick up the car. when we went to pick the car up they told me they probably know where the leak is coming from but they cant do anything. THey also proceeded to say "we don't fix Diesel engines". Then WHY did you change the oil? why did you even say to come in if you CANNOT touch it? Just unreal. will never go back. Crooks. I am sure they are better with gas engines. but Diesel users BEWARE read more

Went in for the oil and tire rotation special - had the brakes inspected. They did the oil change, I assume, but forgot the rotation. Also, said air pressure was 32 in every tire but... 25 in one, 26 in another, 35 in another and 32 in at least one. Brakes checked out great. THEN I went back to get them to do the rotation, obviously someone was not happy as a few days later my front right brakes "hung'up". First choice for professional service on Kingsway was busy, 2nd choice was also busy so I took it into these guys and... $800. later! THEN a few days later IT HAS THE SAME PROBLEM!! if they were 3rd on my list before.. they are now on my "never-again" one. p.s. said they would honour a Midas coupon for $20. but it never appeared on the invoice - I am so upset with these jokers that I will probably report to City of Vancouver for Business License complaints, and BBB and Motor Vehicle Inspections to maybe get that license audited too! read more

This branch of Midas 1688 Mains st, vancouver, is the most honest and courteous, i was help by Brian and he explained to me what need to be done on my exhaust after i went to the other branch at 1875 Kingsway(which tried to riff me off by quoting me 450.00 with parts i dont need to get repaired- his name is Chun by the way) At first i only ask for quotation or estimate, and quoted me 176.00 but after i told him i have a warranty with the other Midas, he politely said " oh yes we honor that and in any other Midas" and recalculate my charge that only come down to 89.00. He told me that i can always come back if i have problem. There are only a few of the shops that are being honest now a days, but definately will go back there for some other repair on my car. The warranty on my SUV recently expired and I found a groupon for an oil change at this midas location. The service over the phone, as well as in the shop, was excellent to say the least! Because my initial experience was so positive I took my business back to them. The alarm on my vehicle was constantly sounding and resulted in a drained battery due to an issue with the power lock system. I previously went to a small auto shop to have them fix it, but after an $800 bill and my alarm system being completely disabled, they were unable to fix the problem. The employees at Midas on Main diagnosed the issue in no time, replaced the lock in my door, and re-enabled my alarm system. All of this was done in a timely, efficient and professional manor. I appreciate everything they did for me and will continue to bring my vehicles to them. Highly recommended! read more

These guys are honest! I went in for exhaust repair and they quoted half the labour of another place, with the same parts cost. This was after a third shop had already repaired something that didn't solve anything. I agreed to the quote and then upon my return, they told me they discovered some parts came in packs of two, so they LOWERED the price for parts. This was after already telling me about an online coupon. I have never come out from a mechanic paying LESS than I thought I would. They explained what was going on and showed me the deteriorated gasket from my exhaust. An overall great experience and they have earned my future business. If you are looking to avoid getting cheated, try this place. Honest, fast, and reasonably priced. What more could you want? read more

Great service at Midas on Main Street Vancouver! First, I took my car to a major competitor one block down and they charged me $ 45 just for the initial inspection. The next morning, I was told, it would be $ 3,100! I drove one block down to Midas, talked to Antonio and briefly explained my cars' problem (muffler issue). Next morning he called me with the price ($ 500 range) and they would have it ready by noon. My friend, a certified mechanic has suggested a price in that range and it worked out even better. Antonio and the team are clearly professionals, honest and efficient. I asked them if they could check my tires, fluids and brakes. They did it at no extra charge. Very pleased with the professionalism speed and knowledge guys in the shop in the front desk at the Main street location. I've been going to a Mercedes repair shop for 10 years it changed managers due to the retirement of the owner as a result I decided to give Midas a try after a call to the front desk they assured me and I had confidence that they could do the work. They definitely didn't disappoint not only is the car running perfectly now they essentially did the repairs with just the inspection cost without doubt the most inexpensive visit to a repair shop I've ever had. SO HAPPY! DEFINITELY COMING BACK! I stupidly had a buddy do some exhaust work on my car because it was cheaper than what I was quoted at the shop. A part that I bought from Lordco for the exhaust job was faulty and since they dont have warranties on their parts I was out the money I paid my buddy and the money I spent on the part. I took it to Midas on Main St and they fixed the problem properly and the best part is that the part is warrantied which means if anything happens I wont be charged for replacement. Lies! Lies Lies! These guys WILL take advantage and tell you that your car is not safe and will try and charge you $600 for a $100 job. The one guy told me "I dont want to see you in the news that you hit someone!!!" Who says that?? Not any professional person I know. Dont go here, they talk a lot of shit! After installing winter tires and seeing the brakes were completely gone and the parts supplier had closed early for a holiday, Chris managed to reach the supplier en route home and convince him to turn back to the shop so we could get the brake parts needed and be back on the road safely. Excellent service! Went in for a lube, oil and filter. Chris, the manager was super helpful and had a good sense of humour. He noticed a few tiny extra things that needed work, but he was not pushy on trying to upsell me. Price and service is great. One tiny problem is their complicated voicemail, otherwise a golden experience. Great value! read more
