So I get this coupon at Vons for an oil change at Midas. I'm thinking cool this place is right down the street and I'm due; and I need to get it done for my trip to LA. So I walk up in there, $19.99 coupon in hand and I wait a bit before being helped. The dude behind the counter (Allen) is on the phone, so I wait patiently. A few minutes later I'm telling him what I need done. He was real nice, tells me it'll be 40 minutes max. An hour later I'm picking up my car. And I'm ready to hit the road. It was all quick and painless. Just how I like it. They do brakes and other junk that I know nothing about, too. I might keep coming back as long as I can get serviced for a good price. read more

I had my catalitic converter cut off again but this time they didnt get it out from under the truck. I called Midas in the morning and they were busy with customers already booked in for service but managed to get my truck in and reweld the converter back in. Brought my car in for an oil change about two months ago. The oil change was fine however when I got my car back the contents of my glovebox had been emptied all over my passenger floor. When I brought it to the attention of the person at the front desk the reaction was *shrug* "what can you do now?" I would really expect better customer service than that, especially since the technicians really did not need to go into the glovebox, at all. Not only that, but I had several questions regarding my oil change and they were completely unhelpful. I would never, never use Midas again based on their awful customer service especially considering how expensive they are for their services. read more

Not much to say about another good auto shop on University Ave. The staff is really friendly and the mechanics actually show/walk you through what is wrong with your car. Look for the big guy named Rich, he's a cool dude. Anywho, though the service is great, every auto shop is always trying to make a buck. Ex: they suggested i needed to change my struts on my car when I replaced them a couple month's ago. Their excuse? "We gaged it from the amount of miles on your car..." I mean cmon, I work with cars, I know what I need fixed.. 5 Stars on fast service, friendly staff, and quality. -1 star for trying to sell me something I already fixed. Did not even get the name of the service manager. I went to get an oil change and tire rotation per coupon offer. Service manager calls me to look at my tires. Tell me one is "bald" Now..he may have (mistakenly)assumed that English is not my first language, so I did not bother explaining to him that if i can still see the wear indicator bar much below the tire surface, the tire is not 'bald." He then told me that the DOT had forbidden Midas to do any rotations for tires of that condition. I did not answer..came outside and called colleague in that dept. The DOT issues guidelines. I told that to him. He got combative, trying to backtrack. "it was just a suggestion..." i told him there are other ways to get customers to buy tires. His response "I can't force you to buy a tire." Hmmm...Suffice it to say..Midas needs to tell their people to NOT act like scammers. read more

I really hate shade tree mechanics. When it comes to getting my car serviced, I'd much rather go to a reputable place, pay a little bit more, and have the feeling that its more than likely going to be fixed right the first time, and if it isn't the place is big enough for me to go through some sort of protocol for having the problem fixed the second time. I went to this Midas a few weeks ago when the brakes on my car kept squeaking, thus embarrassing me profusely. Its one of those things where you hope they're just going to say "oh, it appears just a ___ (insert mechanic jargon there) was loose, all we had to do was tighten it. So its free" kind of thing, but of course this is real life and MY life so it wasn't going to be easy. While waiting for them to check out my car and looking over the prices, I was a little worried as their brake services were $180 off top, and I knew I'd probably need a little bit more work than that as my car hadn't been serviced in a while. Luckily for me, Midas almost ALWAYS has some sort of promotions, so I got $30 off my brake service, plus discounts on other work I needed. They had me in and out in a little over an hour (I waited in the lobby with a book and my iPod, not too bad) Whats added is my brakes come with a lifetime warranty as long as I have the car...so it really is a win-win situation. I'm a female and he knew I was calling my grandpa for help throughout the whole thing..... but I wasn't stupid enough to fall for his game ..... I took my car in to have a new exhaust manifold put in my car. The part was replaced and I noticed that my car was still making funny noises as I drove out of the parking lot. I went back in and they said it was "just the new manifold settling in" and that I should bring it back in a week if the noise persisted. A week went by, and it was still making noise, so I brought it back in. While we were standing at the counter, my wife overheard the mechanics talking in a foreign language, not knowing that my wife understood them, and they were talking about how they had damaged the manifold the last time we brought the car in, and rather than replacing it with another one, they just went ahead and put the damaged one on my car. So we had them replace it with a new mianifold. It is now a year later, and I am already having problems with the exhaust manifold again. Not confirmed, but my guess is that they somehow patched up the manifold that they broke, and put it right back on my car. This place is a scam, do not take your car there for any serious repairs because you will get ripped off. read more

When I came in, there was a guy outside yapping with some chick, another guy working on another car, and the guy at the counter greeted me nicely, he took my info and went out to give the other guys my paperwork. This is when the guy yapping stopped yapping with the chick but then started yapping with the guy who was at the counter. They yapped for a good 5 minutes before the other guy working on the other car came over and grabbed my paperwork and started working on my car. I only came on for an oil change and I called ahead to see if they were busy, they said they weren't so I came over right away. So I went to go get my car to get fixed in last week for my front brakes, usually takes about 2-3 hours tops, so I got a phone call from one of the workers (David) called me 10-15 before close telling me that my car was already finished. So I showed up to the spot and once I came in the person who called me tells me that something happened to my car (2018 Silver Kia Optima) and showed me that the rear side of my car was struck by someone who apparently from his words did a "dine n dash" Sort of thing with the car that stuck me and a couple more calls. So I've been contacting them and my insurance company about it and I'm not getting help from any single end and now what's more upsetting is that I had to still pay for my brakes to be fixed even though he DIDN'T MENTION anything at all about my vehicle being hit and it's extremely shady that he didn't tell me till I came back in person. The guy that said he "would" Help me (which is David the manager) has not even helped me about anything through it at all and he LITERALLY HASN'T helped me at all through any of it, never told me that he contacted coporate nor did he even try to conduct a police report about it because two other vehicles were hit including mine and I don't know if he helped the other two people way more because he hasn't done anything to help at all. DON'T GO THERE UNLESS YOU HAVE TO PAY FOR A NEW BACK BUMPER. The only help he gave me was the information of the vehicle which is absolutely useless in this whole situation and it's already been at least a week and he still hasn't contacted me about anything the incident. You guys are shady and absolutely unhelpful with everything when it comes to something like this (I was driving a Kia Optima Silver/Gray vehicle) still waiting to get help because he has not contacted me about ANYTHING!!! I had an issue with my car after an oil change that I brought up to David, the manager. He not only took the time to explain their process and research what was done on my car to make sure his team was taking the right steps in their process but also went above and beyond to fix my car up to standards. Great job, Midas. You pointed out what was wrong with a previous shop's work, you fixed it for a pretty good rate (it was $1300, but I needed completely new front brakes), you were really friendly and helpful, and you took some of my old motor oil I needed to dispose. You even stayed open late to finish the job because I needed the truck the next morning. Unfortunately, when I took it in a second time for a brake checkup, you said you'd call me within 1 hour after I dropped my truck off, when actually you did not call me at all. So I called you 4 hours later and you said, oh sorry, I'll call you back in 5 minutes, but you didn't do that either. And when I actually showed up at 7:30pm, after you are supposed to have closed, there were still 4 people waiting in the lobby but only one person working in the entire shop. Of course he didn't have time to call me back! But of course, I won't be coming back either. read more

A little late on this review but really want to put a shout out for Scott and his staff. We were in town to move our son out of State for the summer and started hearing very strange noises from our truck and a check engine light came on. Scott got us in and him and his guys spent a couple of hours trying to locate the issue. Never could really pinpoint anything. Felt we were save to make the trip home and didn't charge a thing. That night my husband heard more things thought the problem was something entirely different from where they were looking took the truck back the next day. Again, Scott was happy to help, he made sure it wasn't what my husband thought and sent us on our way. We made it home safe and sound. If we lived in San Diego this would be my place of choice. Today I got my oil changed on my 2000 4Runner and I just had a couple of concerns. I have been to this Midas many times and I go to this Midas because 24.99 is a good deal if done right. I I always check to make sure the plug and filter are tight after the oil change. When I went under the car, I noticed that there was oil all over the plug. The plug doesn't leak so it was just a sloppy job and he should have at least wiped it off. I also just got new floor mats, and the technician tracked grease all over the driver's side. It would be a good idea to put down some paper. Overall I had to spend about 15 minutes cleaning the drain plug and mat. Upon leaving, I asked if there was anything they noticed during the inspection(it said replace battery on the invoice which I noticed when I got home) and the unfriendly guy at the counter said, "There's some notes at the bottom, you can read them." No mention of what my battery tested at, or why they would recommend replacing it. I really would like to keep taking my car here because it is very convenient and the actual owner(not the guy at the counter) seems nice but I think I am going to have to try a different place. Hopefully, this Midas can take my concerns into account the next time they do an oil change. read more

Got my oil change here last weekend and saw one of the mechanics reversing a customer's care into another car. This should never happen, especially at a car shop, because I suppose mechanics should be really good with cars and thus should know how to drive cars properly right? Later that weekend, my gf left a complaint regarding her poor oil change experience along with seeing one of their mechanics hitting another car. The manager of the shop called my gf back that day and told "not to worry about it, it's not her business". As you can see, this shop has poorly trained mechanics and management is very rude. I had been to this Midas/SpeeDee Oil Change place twice for oil changes because it is close to my house and convenient. You can get oil changes at other places for cheaper but that is not really here nor there. This review is specifically for my experience last week at this place. My car needed an alignment, tire rotation and I was just about due for an oil change so I decided to get all 3 things done at once. I called them to price everything out. Over the phone, they said an alignment was $79.99 and an oil change was $34.99 but they would rotate my tires for free. Cool deal. I asked them about how long it would take if I brought my car in first thing on a week day. They said "no more than a couple hours". I took my car in at 7:30am this past Friday morning. The guys at the desk are nice, I will give them that. My experience with my past oil changes have always been fine. I did see than an alignment was actually $89.99, not the $79.99 I was quoted over the phone. Meh, whatever. The guy said my car would be done in about an hour. But instead of waiting I had my girlfriend pick me up and we went to @Spacebar coffee shop to grab some coffee and pass the time. After not getting a call that my car was done after a couple hours, we decided to go on with our day and our errands and I would pick up my car when we had to pick one of our kids at school in the afternoon. 2pm rolls around, still no call from them. So I call them and ask if my car was done yet. They said it had been done. So I asked why I never got a call about it. The guy said something along the lines of "your car was worked on before I got here so I have no idea why you didn't get a call". A little annoying they didn't call me but not really a huge deal. When I go to pick up my car I pay up the $89.99 + $34.99 and decide to not bitch about not getting a call. I walk outside to get my car and notice they have not rotated the tires. I could tell this because the front two tires are always the dirtiest and they were still in the same position. So I go back in and ask why they didn't rotate the tires. He pulls open the paperwork and gives me the schpeel about how they couldn't rotate my tires because they have to keep the best tires on the back, yada yada. I mean, I know this is policy but thanks for calling to tell me you couldn't rotate my tires. I really only got the oil change because I really needed my tires rotated. So basically I wasted $35 and didn't get my tires rotated. I highly doubt my tires are that worn down. I got a full set at Costco maybe 6 months ago. So this place was going to have me walk out of there not even telling me they couldn't get the tires rotated. In summary, my most recent experience was terrible because: - mis-quoted price online - never got a call that my car was done (I had to call them to ask!) - they didn't call me to tell me they couldn't rotate my tires and went ahead with the oil change anyways - they didn't tell me they couldn't rotate my tires even after I had the keys again. I went back in and asked why it wasn't done And so, I am never going back here again. I don't care if it is the closest auto place from my house. They are disorganized and don't know how to communicate. In other words, bad customer service. read more

Worst auto place around. Total rip off. I let these guys change my high pressure vale on my car and they never inform me that I might need to replace my power steering at the same time after I asked them. After they change the vale then they tried to replace the pump separately so they could charge me again for labor. Sike. Took my car down the street to Bob's Brown mechanic for a second opinion and come to find out my power steering pump was fine. I wish I could give these guys no stars but yelp won't let me. Don't get a groupon, etc and try to get an oil change here!!!! 1) you have to make an appointment for an oil change if you have a coupon. No walk ins. This particular franchise owner only allows x number of them to be used a day. 2) because of this, their next available appt for me would be October. (That's 3 months away). Wish these restrictions would have been stated at the time of purchasing the groupon. Seems like another business owner who got caught up in selling more groupons/coupons to make a little profit that didnt have the manpower or logistics worked out to satisfy all the customers needs. Waste of $$$$ in my opinion. Instead of creating repeat customers now you have a handful of bad comments online and word of mouth for your business. read more

Ok. I'm pissed. At Midas, my brake pads are already worn down and they have to machine rotors. WTF? they are replacing pads and everything for free but I want new rotors too! He said it's my driving habits. I don't brake hard and I don't drive that much. It's only been since March 4th, and I work from Home so I don't drive too much.. I questioned the manager on several issues because I feel like rotors should be replaced free too and his response "I've been in the field 13yrs, and this is what happens when you don't let your new pads break in properly and use poor driving habits" REALLY? Seriously? I am a good driver, no brake skiing here and I only drive 15miles a day if that. Corporate phone call is in progress. UPDATE: After calling corporate, another mechanic and 2 mechanic friends everyone agreed that this was cause by poor work NOT my driving. These guys are great and easy to work with. They install my Catalytic Converter on my Ferrari....ok it's a Honda Ridgeline. This review is specifically about Scott at this location. Scott was working the front desk and he checked me in to have my exhaust system looked at. When Scott came back to let me know what was wrong with my car, he really helped me understand what it is that needed to be fixed on my car. He even drew me a picture to show me what he was talking about. Unfortunately, Midas was unable to do the repairs on my car because of what the repaired required and Scott told me that I would probably have to go to the dealer and it would cost around $1,200 because of the part. But then he recommended that I go down the street to check out a local business and see if they could possibly do a fix instead of replacing the part. So here I am at the business he recommended, getting the part fixed for only $100! I am so appreciative that Scott cared enough about me as a customer to offer me alternatives to getting my car repaired, especially because I know nothing about cars. He could have easily just told me that Midas couldn't do anything for me and let me leave. Thanks so much Scott! read more

I actually didn't have any repairs done here. I live quite far but was purchasing a used vehicle from a private party in that area. So I called and spoke to Manuel Long, after the owner of the used vehicle agreed to bring the truck in for a full inspection. The truck was brought in and Manuel had it, (or did it himself?) inspected. He called me immediately to give me a full report, which turned out to be a lot of minor things. Anyway I liked that he was so thorough, honest and seemed to be looking out for my best interest. Although, I didn't have work done here, due to Manuel's excellent phone skills I give this midas an A++ for customer service. Turns out I need a a whole new engine which only confirms your mechanics don't know what they are doing.
