Came with my wife and two friends for a birthday dinner on a Sunday evening. The place was hopping - with almost every table full. Nevertheless, they sat us promptly at 630, the service was exemplary and the food was delicious. The salads (Caesar and Mista) were among the best we have had in Boston. The caccio e pepe gnocci were amazing and the pesto (served on GF pasta for my gluten intolerant wife) was delicious. We did not have the pizza but it looked great (next time!). One more note on the service. They absolutely got it right! There was a primary server (a charming young lady) who was supported by a team of delivery folks. They got the orders exactly right, served them in a timely and well coordinated manner and delivered it all with a smile and a personal touch. Can't wait to return. Such a great addition to Newton (and a massive upgrade over that musty old belly dancing place - Karoun). Welcome to the neighborhood Mida!! read more

Very nice location, and food is good. Service was very poor - we got our appetizer and pizza for two people in our group in about 20 minutes, but took an hour after that to get two pasta courses for the other people at the table. Eventually the manager let us know that they had missed the rest of our order, but no apology or offer to take one of the meals off the bill. The manager and the chefs seemed to be debating orders most of the time we were there so assume other people had similar issues - needs to work out the opening problems before I would be willing to try it again. read more

This long awaited outpost of the popular South End restaurant of the same name has gotten off to a very good start. The night we were there, it was pretty much packed and the kitchen and front of house seemed to be working together smoothly. Chef owner Douglass Williams was making pizzas himself and checking on the crowd. The food we had was very, very good. Fritto misto was done right, not heavy or greasy at all. Wild striped bass served over broccoli rabe was a good sized portion and flavorful. Also delicious was the gnocchi, delightfully soft, and very rich. We watched many super thin crusted pizzas go by which we will try next time. Another great feature: MIDA allows dogs on the outside patio. A very auspicious opening and a great addition to Newtonville. read more

Mida is incredible, don't listen to bad reviews- those people didn't even eat here. Same vibes as Boston location. Good is incredible, highly recommend the Focaccia to start. Drinks are great. All pastas and desserts great. It's loud in there, but guess what- that is the city vibe. It's lively, vibrant and hopping. Newton needed this. Can't go wrong here. read more

Had dinner there last week and it was fabulous. The server was very helpful and attentive. The mussels were spiced very nicely and a good amount for two to split as an appetizer. The roasted chicken and risotto were so tasty - wish I could get skin as crispy! The decor is very cool. Have been to the South End location, but this one has one huge advantage - plenty of parking around back. The gluten free pasta tasted like non-GF pasta, not the gummy stuff you can run across. Mira is a new Newton restaurant. Ordered takeout dinner for 2 last night. When I arrived at the the designated time I was informed that they weren't able to make one of the two ordered entrees because one of the main ingredients, lobster, hadn't arrived. The part that got me so angry was that I ordered 2 hours in advance, they had my email & phone # but hadn't tried to notify me. I found that inexcusable. They offered me a pasta substitute that could be ready in 5 minutes. Of course while waiting the chicken entree which was ready got dried out. They comped the meals but it wasn't the best introduction to a new restaurant. Restaurant was busy and others seemed like they were enjoying their meals. read more

The place is modern, nice & clean. Our first server was terrific & knowledgeable. She was then transferred to the bar area & apparently there wasn't a proper handoff to another server. The first server had brought us our drinks promptly, took our order and left. Someone from the kitchen came to us 15 minutes later to say that the pizza oven wasn't working so one dish couldn't be made. It had to be substituted. No Problem we said. We changed the dish to one available. Our original server returned later with our food and she walked away quickly as they were busy with families coming in with several children. There was an issue with one dish & we couldn't get any help for a while until we stopped someone to get our server who then returned. She said she'd take care of it. She then disappeared to another section she was assigned to. No one checked in on us after that. 45 minutes later we had to ask what happened to the item being re made to resolve the issue. By then we were almost finished eating and the person who's dish needed fixing left most of it since it was missing the replacement ingredient. Two people came out from the kitchen, one was supposed to explain why something that should have taken two minutes or less to fix wasn't done. One said that they had other orders to finish. We asked for the bill which had a mistake, a charge for the pizza that could not be made. Long story short the management took care of the bill. We'd driven an hour to eat there with friends. We were all disappointed and all the dishes were overcooked. Staffing challenges being what they are these days, we understand that Sunday brunch may not have been the best day to try this place. They were very busy and the staff looked young & frazzled. Restaurants become successful & expand quickly before they are ready. Training of staff especially in the kitchen will be key to their success. read more

We ate here shortly after Mida opened in the summer of 2021 and felt it was ok, a bit uneven on the dishes with some very good and some not so, and the whole restaurant a bit on the loud side. But, it was brand new so we hoped they were just working out the kinks of getting a new location up and running. Tonight's visit was deeply disappointing. The place is deafening. Not a bit loud, but very, very loud. The service was curt. The Gem Salad had lovely lettuce, but was dry and over-seasoned. The Pasta all'Amatriciana was not good - drowning in cause that was heavy on the heat, light on the guanacale, and bitter. The roasted chicken was the best of the lot. It was cooked properly, and tasted good, not great. Prices: this place is expensive, which would be fine, but the food is not up to the price or the hype. Nor is the atmosphere or service. read more

Went here for the second time tonight, dinner was exceptional both times! The decor and ambiance is really great and modern, the hostess was very kind and quickly showed us to our table. Very extensive wine list, and great selection of cocktails. We had the mussels and the fried mixed seafood as a starter and we loved it! The mussels had a delicious sauce (served with crusty bread to soak it up), and the fried seafood was fresh and also had fried lemon slices and tomatoes. The new haven style pizza (thin crust) was served right out of the oven and also delicious. The tiramisu was a bit non traditional but that's the best compliment I can give it! A shot of espresso is poured over it at the table, and it had a spongey cake base layered with mascarpone and pieces of crushed lady fingers for a crunchy texture. Definitely will be coming back again! read more

This was my first visit to Mida. I was very encouraged as soon as I walked in the door. The room is bright and warm and charming and very inviting. I was even more excited when I read the menu. my three friends and I ordered the $70 tasting menu which they said was adequate for four people and we actually had leftovers. Not because the food wasn't great. It was actually delicious. We enjoyed a wonderful meal. And the restaurant is well priced. So why only three stars? The answer is noise, noise, and more noise. It was practically deafening. My friends and I, none of whom are hard of hearing, had to shout across the small table at one another to make ourselves heard. It was very very difficult to have a pleasant conversation when we were screaming. For me , yelling at people for 90 minutes does not constitute a pleasant evening. Too bad because otherwise I would have addedi Mida to my regular restaurant rotation. But I don't think I'll go back unless they fix the acoustics problem. read more

This restaurant definitely needs a better chef and maybe a manager too. The pizza was simply burned, so my wife returned it (first time in her life), another pizza was really bad too. Sour taste, dry edges, mushy inside, with cheese melted and floating on top of sauce. It was hard to bite, and impossible to cut with the knife. Capuchino was cold, so was espresso. Tiramisu was whatever but tiramisu, with a tough middle part, and the waiter pour some diluted syrup on top, which made it even worse. The time on the door suggested that the restaurant is closed while it was open. It could have been a great place considering its location, new building, nice design, and friendly waiters, but people go to restaurants to eat food, and the food is really bad. Great new restaurant in Newton. Very nice decor and music playing in the background. Great wine selection and tasty cocktails. The pizza was delicious! Other reviewers complain about it being burnt but THAT IS HOW ITS SUPPOSED TO BE! I've had it that the both times I've gone to eat here and it's delicious. The main courses were prepared with great care and detail. Lastly the tiramisu is one of the best I've had. They pour a fresh shot of espresso over it at your table, delicious! read more

Build out is terrific, I don't think there is anyone in kitchen thats old enough to drink. The north shore fritto misto was excellent however the bucatini ALL'amatriiana was disappointing. Adelman said it was the best he ever had, well, perhaps he has not experienced very many versions. I found it had cavio Pepe quantities of pepper and the sauce was pasty very dark with no spark. I will return as I always do, I never rate a new restaurant on my first visit. Another observation the bartenders measure everything, no free pouring at this place. read more

Had a phenomenal experience at Mida last night, from the moment I walked in until we left, happy after enjoying a great meal & fantastic service. I have an Allium/garlic allergy, and spoke with the host, Jordan, who was very helpful, and spoke to the chef & my server on my behalf before I was even seated. He continued to check on me throughout the entire meal, which was very sweet. Our server, Cassidy, was very helpful and kind, and our meals (there were 5 of us) were all wonderful! Not a trace of garlic or any of its' evil cousins, in any of my food! I enjoyed the Insalata, then had delicious Cacio e Pepe gnocchi, that had just the right seasoning & flavor. The wine we all had, Montepulciano D'Abrizzo, 2021, Cantine Mucci, "Valentino", Abruzzo, IT, was fabulous, and I'll be going to buy some today! For dessert, we shared a citrus cake which had lots of a yummy berry reduction, and was the perfect end to a fun evening! Kudos to the chef, and the entire staff at Mida Newton. I've heard the Boston location is just as great, too! We WILL be back soon! read more

Such a great addition to Newton - the pasta is literally the best in the suburbs and maybe even in all of Boston. We got the gnocchi and the bolognese and both were out of this world. The pasta was actually cooked true al dente which I feel like is so hard to find. We also got the focaccia and the arancini to start and highly recommend both. Everything was amazing - the decor, the service, and the food!!! Can't wait to go back! read more

I've been to this place three times. Each experience was worse than the first. Pro-they addressed the lighting issue. The first time it was so bright you could have performed surgery in there. The food is overpriced. $5 for a fountain soda (they are not quick to refill your glass either). They will also charge you $5 for seltzer water from the fountain. The food isn't too bad. The issue is the staffing. This is a review of the bar staff only, we never sat at a table for service. If you sit at the bar you will be treated to poorly made cocktails less than enthusiastic attitudes and eye rolling should you want something extra like limes or olives. This occurred each time with different servers. I spoke with other friends who tried out Mida and they had the same response. Food is good, a bit overpriced and the service was bad. There are too many other wonderful choices in Newton, no need to spend your time here. read more

MIDA? More like MIDA-ocre. In all seriousness, this place completely disappointed me. As a newly transplanted local from New York, I was super excited that a highly rated Italian restaurant popped up so close to me! But unfortunately MIDA is all style, no substance. The first thing I'll mention is not only is the dining room exceptionally loud but smoke fills the air from the pizza ovens, leaving the room uncomfortably warm and well... smoky. However, I ignored this and ordered the crispy polenta appetizer, which was actually pretty good. Perfectly fried on every side with good flavor from the polenta and small amount of accoutrements. My only suggestion would be to put more of the accoutrements on the dish just because they were quite tasty and most bites ended up being purely polenta (which isn't a bad thing!). Despite a promising start, I was pretty let down by the lasagna and tiramisu. The lasagna was overly complicated and under-delivered on its promise of short-rib. There were MAYBE two/three solid pieces of bland short-rib in the entire lasagna. The bevy of toppings and basil inside should have made the lasagna remarkably flavorful, but I found it to be quite underwhelming. The pasta did not taste freshly made that morning - at least compared to what I'm used to in NYC Italian spots - and the ricotta similarly tasted store-bought. It was an not an offensive entrée, just unremarkable. The tiramisu, on the other hand, was just baffling. We were given a bowl with a (lady finger?) cookie on top branded with a signature M (for MIDA), which was then turned into 'tiramisu' by the smooth pouring of espresso over the top. Unfortunately, the end product, once again, did not meet the frills of the presentation. The tiramisu's texture and flavor profile were way off from a typical tiramisu since the typical long soaking process for the lady fingers was replaced by this 'innovative' method. It wasn't that bad, but I would way rather (and did!!!) go down the street for Cabot's Ice Cream, which is always an incredible treat. In my opinion, MIDA overlooked what truly makes great Italian food in favor of appearing to be an upscale spot in an affluent area. Overall, you're better off spending your money elsewhere. read more

We had a later reservation on a Thursday night. Our first visit to Mida. We walked in and were immediately blown away by the ear splitting din. Speaking with the hostess was difficult because of the roar. She explained that the restaurant was contemplating installing some kind of sound absorbing material. We opted to sit outside despite a light drizzle. We ordered salads, pizza, and wine. Our waiter was a pleasant young man who obviously had no experience in the restaurant industry. When asked to describe one of the wine options, he replied that it was "imported." He suggested we get two salads as we were sharing among three. We agreed but then had to remind him one minute later when he reviewed our order. He seemed to have an issue with attention. We received our wine and salads right away. The salad was excellent. One of our pizzas (basic tomato cheese) arrived soon after. It was meh. After waiting for probably 25 minutes for our other (sausage) pizza, I asked about it. A manager swung by to tell me that there had been an accident in the kitchen and our pizza had flipped upside down and burned. Sorry to be skeptical but this explanation struck me as clearly phony. A replacement pie arrived after another 15 minutes. It was also meh. I might be persuaded to give this place one more try IF they address the noise problem. read more

We ate here last night for first time with my son. The food we ordered was very good. We had the sausage pizza, extremely thin crust so I loved it. My son had the gnocchi and hubby had the lasagna. All of us liked our dishes. The service was good too. The problem is that the place is so loud you cannot hear yourself think and conversation is impossible at your take. They also do not enforce ,ask wearing. There was a large party of about 12 people who were all milling about near their table chatting and standing and drinking like they were at their own cocktail party in their house. None wearing masks and no one telling them to either sit down or put them on. The other annoyance is that the food comes out when it's ready. In fairnesss, they told us this when we ordered, but my pizza came out very quickly and I was entirely finished before the other entrees even arrived. This is not a small plates place and the portions are individual portions so although they say "our dishes are for sharing" they really are not. Also very small menu and no specials so you better take a look at the menu before you go. The food was good but the selections are quite basic, especially considering the price. read more
