The potatoes were old, dry, lumpy and flavorless. The pork chop had a lot of fat and was so dry that I only ate a couple of bites. Came here on a weekend for brunch and was honestly shocked at how good it was! Their portions are HUGE so if you aren't really hungry, I definitely recommend sharing! There seems to be a few regulars that are retired and enjoy this cafe. We ordered the chicken fried steak with hash browns and Two Egg Breakfast with Belgian waffle combo along with coffees and chocolate milk for the kid and kid pancakes. Well, I feel like a fool for not visiting this location on a regular basis! We came here after getting some seriously rude service by the hostess at the local Denny's and deciding a different option would be best that day. I was impressed from the moment I walked into Mid Cities Cafe up to the moment I left. We were enthusiastically greeted by a lovely young woman who asked us our preference on seating (booth or table) and seated us at an available booth. Our server came out shortly and was extremely gregarious and smiling wide, while seeming completely authentic. After he took our order, we enjoyed the lovely, quiet, quaint atmosphere of the cafe. The decor is well done and provides visual interest without seeming busy. We ordered the cinnamon french toast, migas, biscuits and gravy, and a side of potatoes. Everything was wonderful! I'm actually salivating just thinking about it, honestly. We had not a single complaint. The coffee was also good, it tasted like an American brew, but lacked the bitterness that so many diners seem to have in their coffee. If there is one thing I could suggest, it would be to provide fresh salsa with the migas (or any other southwest inspired dish). They had cholula at the table, which is great, but I do dearly love me some fresh salsa! But that is super nitpicky, and certainly won't stop us from coming back very soon! read more

Very clean and nice place to eat breakfast, lunch or brunch. I have been coming here for breakfast and brunch. So when my son asked for breakfast, I remembered of this place. He ordered steak and egg and it was gone in minutes. I always ordered the corn beef hash and this time with house potatoes and pancake. Never tried their pancake before, but it was biiiiiig and perfect. Super filled with their delicious meals. The waiting staff, Anthony, was very attentive and kind. The owner was always checking on us too. I have no complaints and cannot think of anything they could do better. They are already so good! This is my breakfast/brunch to go, always!!!! We ended up here one busy morning when other restaurants were packed with long lines. This is a bit off the main restaurant thoroughfare so that may account for being able to be seated immediately. We both ordered cinnamon French toast - mine with bacon, his with sausage. The French toast was quite good; I would look forward to trying it again. The bacon was inedible - it's flavor to my taste buds was almost rancid. Very disappointing. His sausage was quite sage-y flavor-wise but I liked my small bite. Eggs were eggs, as ordered, well, almost. He wanted his eggs scrambled but they were delivered over medium as mine were correctly. We think we were not clear on his order. Disappointing was the service. The restaurant filled after we arrived, partially with friends of our young waiter, who seemed more interested in talking with his friends rather than tend to the old people over there! We had to wait way too long for an order to be corrected and coffee to be served. We would return, and hope that service improves and would definitely skip the bacon next time. read more

A very clean and modern spot for breakfast. The staff does their best to keep everyone socially distant. My child loved the waffle. It was a huge portion, but he was happy to have it as leftovers later. I had the Biscuits Omelette. The dish was huge, but Ooooh so GOOD !!! It was the right mix of biscuits, eggs, and cheese so you don't have to order a egg dish and get biscuits and gravy on the side. The only drawback, was some kind of meat needed to be inside the omelette. I'm sure they might accommodate adding sausage, bacon, or ham, something to put it over the top. The Banana Nutella Crepes had the right amount of sweet bananas to break up the Nutella. As the place got busy, the staff seemed overwhelmed at times. So it took longer when we were finished with the meal and ready for the check. But otherwise, very attentive. Also being a first-timer, I'm not sure if this is a locals/regulars place or not. There were times we saw people come in after a group and were waited on first. But that didn't happen to us. And even though the Yelp webpage states this is kid-friendly, there were a lot of older crowd folks there. And with the openness of the restaurant, if you use electronics to keep your kids occupied, those might be a little too noisy and could bother some. read more

Good coffee and good service. Bacon had an odd aftertaste--like it was in the process of going bad. Pancake was delicious. I thought I was buying the $8.25 two egg breakfast with meat special but when I got the bill, I was told that the meat was extra. I usually go to Old West and my bill including tip is usually $11-12 (including senior discount but slightly offset by an up-charge if I use a debit or credit card). My bill here was $16. The food is always perfect and if theres that 1 times theres not, they take the time to fix the issue and make sure you're satisfied. The family and staff that keep the place running are so friendly and accommodating, they really make you feel like you are special. I have been disappointed by so many breakfast cafes that we almost just default to Cracker Barrel so we know we won't be disappointed. Man am I glad we took a gamble on this place. Clean, nice environment, friendly service, a diverse menu, and the food was absolutely fantastic. I was having trouble deciding between an omelette and biscuits as gravy. Why decide? They offer a biscuits omelette which is a cheese omelette stuffed with buttermilk biscuits and topped with sawmill gravy. It was great. My wife had one of their breakfast skillets. She rarely finishes such a big portion but it was so good she finished the whole thing. We are going to be in town for a while and I can see Mid Cities Cafe becoming a regular spot to grab a bite. So, I wanted to find a place similar to Armadillo cafe in Bowie, my old stopping place in University when I would travel to and from college. Well, my search for a down-to-earth, homestyle restaurant in this town brought me here... I give a star to the friendliness of the staff, who was prompt and helpful in guiding me through my first visit. They had no problem chatting for a second or two when not busy, which gives a socialization factor. It's somewhat close to my apartment, and the atmosphere as well as environment is very relaxing. I love the soft instrumental music they have going, so the get a star on that. Then there is variety. Their menu is much different from your every day fare, there are several variations of your most classic and staple breakfasts. For me, my favorite breakfast staple anywhere would be biscuits and gravy. Well, they have an omelet version of that, the biscuit omelet that is just like that plate all wrapped up in one! It was superb. Of course today in having the country breakfast, which is my biscuits and gravy with two eggs and hash browns as my side. The only complaint here is there isn't enough meat in the sausage gravy, but otherwise it is fantastic. Also the prices are decent, good for what you are getting. The one downside is they are only open until 3:00. I go to work from 3 to 11:30, and have morning classes, leaving me with a small window of to me to come and truly savor this place. read more

Service was horrible here. Food took along time to come out and when it came out it was barely warm and tasted alright. Plain Jane salt and peppered dishes. Pancakes were a little dry. We didn't even put a dent in our food. I watched 2 tables who were seated after us get their food before us. The owners/managers working the front were more worried about getting people in and out. There were no apologies for the wait. 30+ minutes for some omelette? Nobody came to check on us. We had to ask the table next to us to borrow their condiments since none was provided to us. When it was time to pay we had to go up front asked for our ticket and wait in the waiting area to pay. We will not be back and I would not recommend this place. The wait time to be seated is as long as waiting for a table at ihop or Denny's. Go there instead!! Ps they no longer sell pies from emporium pies! read more

I feel the food is always excellent but the service isn't always up to par. I went in today and they lady next to ordered after me got her food before me. It wasn't correct , they remade her order and she still got her food before me. She said it was her first time. The food was good but the service not so much. I am SO HAPPY that I found this cafe! We went around 1100 and there was not a wait but they were busy. And as busy as they were the noise level was not too loud. (Everyone must have been enjoying their food lol) The coffee was great, probably a medium roast but that's my kind of coffee. There were several different creamer choices in a bowl on the table. I ordered the chicken fried steak with eggs over easy, a biscuit, and hash browns. LOTS OF FOOD. The chicken fried steak was the best I have had aside from my moms. Perfectly crispy, but the batter wasn't too hard to chew. The flavor was on point as well as the cream gravy on top. The eggs were also perfectly cooked. The hash browns had a nice crisp to them and had good flavor. But IMO the biscuit was the show stopper. It was a biscuit split, buttered and grilled. It was so soft but didn't fall apart. Maybe I'm easily pleased lol. However upon entering there was a woman ordering at the check out counter and no one greeted us or took us to a table for nearly 5 mins. Someone else has pointed out that the waits at area breakfast joints is horrible. This place got us in in about five minutes and we were eating almost immediately. Menu is actually pretty varied. I had the cinnamon French toast combo with eggs and sausage and it was pretty yummy. Not amazing or anything but pretty solid as a meal. Pancakes are huge and fluffy. Wait staff super friendly. Ate here yesterday for an early Mother's day. Mom picked this place. I ordered the classic Eggs Benedict (English muffin, Canadian bacon, poached egg) plus the "Belgian" waffle as a side. For one, the waffle was not a "Belgian Waffle". Anyone who has ever eaten an actual Belgian waffle could tell at first taste, this was generic waffle batter poured into a mold. I grew up eating Belgian waffles (in the US, so I'm not expecting anything crazy, just truthful food, don't lie). Also had their Eggs Benedict. The poached eggs were SOLID. What the hell. Disgusting. The entire draw of Eggs Benedict is cutting into the poached eggs and the yolk running over everything. This sadly did not happen here. Crumbly yolks fell off my English muffin pieces. The weirdly semi-solid hollandaise sauce made it taste just ok. Second complaint. The hollandaise sauce! Omg, when my Eggs Benedict came out the Hollandaise sauce on top of it was a big first red flag that the entire meal was bad. It was semi-solid. The outside was solid until I poked it. Also the lemon flavor was very extreme. Combine that with over-hard poached eggs and you get a very gross meal. Both of my parents ordered omelettes. They both reported that the omelettes were extremely dry, which lines up with my meal. LEARN TO COOK EGGS PROPERLY. It's not that hard! I'm a cook myself and eating here was very distressing, eggs are some of the easiest foods to cook, if you cant even get that right then why are you in this business??? read more
