Came in looking for a very specific electronics tool. Asked the folks in the DIY computer department who weren't able to help me but suggested I speak with one of the general sales employees, tracked one down who told me to speak with the DIY computer department... not sure what they get paid to do other than slap stickers on things I've already found on my own. Finally able to locate something similar to what I was looking for and went to check out, 25 people in line on a Saturday afternoon and two registers open. I came in for service on my PC. Worse experience ever. He looked at me with a look that said I can't do anything for you before I even got to the table. Proceeded to tell me exactly that the entire time. Did not once look at my computer. Told me to wait a week and see what's wrong. After this terrible experience, I was charged a diagnostic fee and had to be on the phone an hour just to get my money returned, via check. Which means I need to wait. Suffers from the same defect every Micro Center does - they always have the exact number of cashiers to ensure you're queing for eternity. If you think about it, it really is quite remarkable. They continuously, dynamically respond to customer load, taking away personnel at an inverse rate. I bet they have a server farm in the back calculating the exact number of cashiers necessary for ideal frustration. Maybe that's what the display computers are for. They never seem to work right, probably too busy with all that math. Likely there's a lot of maintenance too - switching out ram sticks, adding media, constant software tweaks - which would explain why all the employees look so very tired! Not to mention their apathetic, unhelpful personalities and general scarcity. Yes, there's definitely a double mission going in here. You gotta pay somehow, and time it's money. I'd recommend an alternative, but with CompUSA long gone they're the only game in town. Go shop Newegg or something, whatever. read more

Used to come here a lot back in the day when I lived in town and used to build/customize my own desktop computers. They had all the accessories and parts I would typically only find online. Today I was in town visiting friends and decided to stop by and pick up a phone mount for my car. Check out was quick but not easy. The cashier was a little pushy when it came to getting name and information which I happily declined to give. I don't live near anymore and don't need all the junk mail they used to send to my old address. As for the store it felt small, cramped and unorganized. Not because the store is small but because there is literally merchandise everywhere; boxes piled up in the middle of the floors, aisles and corners. It gives the store an unorganized look. Check out the pictures from other Yelpers and you will see what I mean. Also the store is a bit tricky to navigate. Luckily I had a nice attendant nearby who could help me with questions, but even he seemed lost. Also shelves were not properly stocked. There was a ton of opened products just thrown around but despite the store was really busy. MicroCenter still differentiates from other stores like BestBuy by offering customers different variety of selections but not a better experience. I'd come here again if I want something specific but would not make it my got to store. My suggestion for MicroCenter is to clean up the clutter and organize the shelves better. This will give it a more appealing and overall better customer experience. read more

So I bought the nano leaf canvas from Micro Center in Patterson New Jersey. When i opened the package, each panel already had the sticky tape to the back of it and it was difficult to get each panel off of each other. I was not certain why it was like this. Then, I spent a couple hours of trying to connect to my wifi with the pairing process with no success. After awhile, I decided to check out a youtube unboxing of the canvas. The video showed that the panels should NOT have tape on the back of the panels, and the tape should have been separated in the box for me to apply. So Micro Center put an open box item on the shelf and did not list the item as that, making me think I bought a brand new unopened item. Now I have to drive back, 1 hour and a half distance to return this. This is my 2nd bad experience with micro center in Patterson New Jersey. The first experience, I ordered items online for pickup and when I went to pick them up, they told me they were out of stock. Once again, driving 1 hour and a half for items I bought online for in-store pickup. I would not recommend going to Micro Center in Patterson New Jersey. read more

Even during the repairs my technician, Jasmine, texted me regular updates and responded to my [banal and over-simplified] questions. I got my laptop back today and its like brand new! Nobody knows about financing other than the cashiers. Only reason this place gets one star is due to the fact that they have good prices and stock. I didn't catch his name, but he was calm and helpful while the entire atmosphere was chaotic due it being black Friday. I would definitely go back to buy future electronics. Good products and usually good service and floor staff is usually helpful, but the store manager with his blue blazer walks around with a lousy attitude and acts as if customers should be thanking him just for his presence. -- Most of the time the manager is just wandering around doing nothing and then when he is called for help, he seems annoyed by it. I just had a very positive resolution of an issue at MicroCenter, and a big shout out to the Service Manager, Anthony Wilson for listening, and working out a solution that satisfied me. I had purchased a Dell refurbish back in July (2021) for my parents, and the Hard drive went bad 3 short months later, just out of warranty. Not something I'd have expected. But Anthony stepped up and issued me a refund via store credit, which absolutely worked for me. I will continue using MicroCenter for my computer needs because of him! read more

The 3.5 % sales tax is great . They always have great deals and a bigger selection than best buy . You can find Al kinds of electronics and parts for your computer. Yeah the line sometimes is long but I guess that's because they have such great deals. This place is s geek wet dream , I recommend this place. Mike's Bottom line. One of the best places to get your tech toys that offers good deals , and one of the only places to get good prices and good selection on parts if you know how to build your own PC. But over the years the service has gone really down hill , if you want a laptop or PC avoid anytime it might even remotely be busy cause you need a staff member to help you and they are always swamped. Full Review I have been coming here for years and its still one of my favorite stores, I like to upgrade my own PCs and help friends build great PCs or build them for people for a good price and you really cant beat the price of buying all the parts and building it yourself you really get a lot of bang for you buck!! I am familiar with the layout and where everything is but every time i go in these days i more or less help myself and try to get out , but the lines at check out are always too long. When ever i go there for anything other than parts or items I already know that I'm looking for finding someone to help me find stuff is really hard. Especially if i go to buy a laptop. Most the people in that section wander around , there is no seeming order to the chaos , just try to grab the guy when he is done with one person. They don't care that you have been waiting for 20 minutes for them when that really push guy/girl comes up and grabs them after just walking in. Getting help in the PC/Laptop section is like pulling teeth. Overall good competitive prices , good selection , fun to look around and see everything but customer service has really tanked and their website is always wrong with in store inventory . My hard drive was failing, so i bought a new one and brought the old one in for a data transfer. It cost $100, which was fine because i figured that'd be all i need, and i could just put it back into my computer. I was wrong. They didn't move Windows along with the rest of my files, they claimed it wasn't possible (which i know for a fact isn't true). Then they offered to install a brand new copy of windows for $150. Hell no. I decided to bring it home and install windows myself, seems easy enough. Turns out, if you want to install a fresh copy of windows 7, you need to wipe all of your personal data. So now, my only other option is to buy a second hard drive to install windows onto. What infuriates me the most, is that when i brought in the two hard drives, i made it very clear that i intended to replace the old one, because it was failing. The associate never said anything about not being able to move the operating system along with the personal data, he never even hinted that i wouldn't be able to boot the new hard drive. Micro Center could easily earn three (3) Stars if management only paid attention to the reviews posted on YELP. After many visits to the Paterson store, I find the identical problems that many Yelpers have written about on this site remaining unchanged. First, I can't fault Micro Center for their wide selection of products. We, as shoppers, however, occasionally require the assistance of a customer service rep, many of which work on the floor. It should be obvious to the staff that many of us are hunting for a specific product and, when we're seen doing this, the staff simply walks (quickly) away in another direction. Additionally, if a staff person does offer to help, it appears that they are only interested in placing their little ID sticker on your purchase to document to management that they somehow assisted you in the sale; perhaps they receive some sort of commission for doing so. During one visit, I picked up a small package of photo paper. The floor person could not get the sticker on the product fast enough while I was inquiring if a less expensive version was available. I then found the less expensive version after I was advised to "look around" to find it. Clearly, the floor person saw me return the first choice to the shelf (with the sticker) and could care less about placing another sticker on my final choice! The check-out experience is one that prevented me from assigning 3 Stars to this store and one that I never look forward to when shopping there. The line grows long very quickly; the manager is alwyas seen talking up a storm with the security person at the door; the check-out staff continues to question each customer as if they are applying for a job. Hey...here's my credit card, here is my cash, I do not want to answer personal questions.....! This part of the check-out process is annoying and not found at other retail operations. Hopefully, Regional Management and Operations will read these comments and take action to correct their problems. If I were the CEO and were aware of the comments found on YELP, I would be visiting the Paterson store right away! read more

The customer service here sucks and needs major improvement. During my 2nd to last visit, I walked around for about 25 minutes looking for an available associate and NOT ONE soul asked me if I needed help. When I finally found the area of the store I was looking for and when there was someone around I could ask for help, they were preoccupied with other customers. I decided to go back another time to check for the product I was looking for. During my last visit, I made another attempt to use my $25 coupon before it expired. Again, there was no one to help me and when someone finally came by, he could not offer me any help and continued with his customer. Another customer and I started to talk about the lack of service we were receiving and she agreed that it was horrible. I just left. I won't shop again at Micro Center. The sales associate (or "Knowledge Advisor," as the tag he was wearing said) was of no help. To almost every question we asked, he answered simply, "I don't know." (And he made no offer to get someone else who might know anything about the products the store was selling.) The only thing he was sure he could help us with was picking out a Sim Card for me to buy for my cell phone. He was recommending one that was on sale, which he said would definitely work with my phone. We bought it, at his recommendation, and drove home. When we got home and tried it, we found out that the Sim Card he'd sold us was not compatible with the phone. So the one thing that he said he knew--after saying "I don't know" to so many other questions--turned out to be totally wrong. What a waste of our time! Rather than go back to Micro Center and deal with such ineptitude, we simply started over and went elsewhere, and got a product that worked. read more

I tried to call micro center, had a hell of a time trying to find a telephone #. I found one , and was told that they did not take orders over the Phone. I remember years ago ordering parts over the Phone. they said that only sales are in person at their stores. I cant get to their store for a few weeks, so I am out of luck. This place is great and horrible! What I mean by great is that the store has a lot of items that you won't find at Best Buy and more than likely wouldn't normally come across. They carry a large array of computers, consumer electronics, peripherals, and accessories. Usually pretty clean. Here's where the place starts to get annoying. The staff is either hit or miss. You either get a genius or a know-nothing. Also when it's busy and you need something that requires keys it maybe really hard to find someone. Everyone is on commission so they are constantly pushing add-ons and extended warranties. Don't try calling ahead to put something on hold, verify stock, or basic questions. No one picks up. The Knowledge Bar is there take on Apples Genius Bar, but a lot more useful. You can ask questions relating to products sold in store. It usually queued up by older folks trying figure out how to use there DVRs and Keurig's. Don't be this person! When the place is busy, the cashier lines are INSANE! The store always seems understaff and customers are constantly looking for help. The location sucks. It's on the outskirts of Paterson on part of Route 20 that has been under roadwork for 2-3 years. Traffic sucks getting in and out. The Passaic River is behind it so no way in that way. It would be better served if another location was on Paramus's Route 17 or Riverdale's Route 23. The main walkways are cluttered to hell with products and displays so much so that it creates a cramped atmosphere and forget about getting from one side to the other when it's busy. Personally, I try not to go here because I hate the crowds, panhandlers in the parking lot, and the general clientele the store attracts can be very rude as result of the long waits. I stick to online stores mostly like Amazon, New Egg, Tiger Direct, OWC, etc. My bottom line is this place is better then Staples, Office Depot, or Best Buy if you need a computer. If your ignorant about this stuff it's a better place to shop then most. However, if looking to get in and out in a hurry, unless it's the mornings, don't count your luck on it. read more

I purchased a ring chime and got home to open the box and there is nothing in the box. Called the number on my receipt got a central answering service. Called again and final got someone one the central answering service. They tri d to called the MC directly and did not get get anyone. I went back to the store spoke to customer service and had to stand on line for the longest time. Then I had to wait until they found Juan who had an attitude and did not want to answer his walkie talkie. The day prior to I spent close to $600.00 for the Ring system and a portal speaker. I love this place. Just to get some things out of the way first, the customer service and support here can go either way, with some who know their stuff and others who pretend to (don't be too hard on them, these guys are mostly part-timers, not Apple engineers). There can be long lines and a jam-packed parking lot. Since I'm sometimes looking for rare kinds of cables and adapters, it can also be annoying to search through the dozens of baskets on top of the shelves when they aren't on display. Aside from that, this place has it all. I find myself wandering around the store forever trying to find an excuse to buy something I really don't need. I've purchased everything here: all parts to the PC I built (which I saved about half-off of regular retail price due to the 3.5% sales tax, rebates, & sale prices). I've gotten online-streaming surveillance cameras, printers, speakers, laptops, peripheral PC equipment, PC games, the whole 9 at this location. They have an in-store PC part selection and warranties that Best Buy can't top. Then there is the convenience of shopping for your equipment in person rather than risking the potential of an online ordering mistake at New Egg or Amazon, plus they match New Egg prices. I highly recommend if you are looking to buy PCs, laptops, or rare electronic parts and gadgets. I also think this store is a MUST for anyone trying to build their own PC. I came to the New Jersey store on a Sunday morning to purchase 10 ubiquity G for bullet cameras they have on the shelf. I am expanding my security for a children's day camp. I was told by the sales person and the manager that I could only buy one camera because they did not want to run out of stock. They are more concerned with keeping their product on the shelf then selling it to the people that want to buy it. Never again will I enter one of the stores. Someone please remove this place from the AppleCare certified repair list. Absolutely useless. This is the second time I have come here (with an appointment!!!!!!!) to repair my phone. The first time, I was told the Apple repair guy called out & there was no replacement for him, after I called ahead to confirm I was coming. The second time, I was told the repair couldn't be done there & all they could do was ship my phone to Apple. If I wanted it shipped, I could do it myself, that is an option for Apple customers.
