I came here to buy some RAM for my 2009 macbook pro and it was extremely easy. As soon as I walked in (to the right) I typed my name so that I can speak to someone at the help desk and I waited for about 5 minutes. The guy who helped me was very knowledgeable and researched the appropriate RAM I needed to buy for my laptop (he searched it using my laptop's serial number), then printed it out, and pointed me in the right direction to have some floor reps help me out. I ended up buying two 4 gig sticks for $60 and some tools to open up my macbook (screw drivers) for 3.99 which was pretty cheap. If you don't want to replace the RAM yourself - they also have techs there that will do it for you ($30 service charge) - that day I would've had to wait for an hour for them to do that for me. Overall - I really like this store. I have to say that Micro Center is like the equivalent of Home Depot for computer/electronics which is awesome!! If you don't want to order your parts online definitely check this place out. One annoying thing though is that they don't have enough floor reps - I had to seriously search and try to find one that was either free or just around to help me. read more

My first time shopping here. I see a lot of bad reviews here but I guess every experiences are different. I had a blast here building a new PC. Customer Service was top notch. Sales Rep took almost 3 hours with me picking the parts as if he was building his own, explaining pros and cons with certain combos. He seemed like he was just having a fun time with me. I had it assembled here paying 120 bucks because I didn't have time to do it myself. It might be a lot of money for something you can do it for yourself, but you get all the warranty and reliability guarantees. And oh the cable management, Amazing! After 2 days I took the PC home, I already had couple of problems with GPU and case fans (which is a manufacturer's fault, not them), the person who built it went above and beyond to make sure it gets fixed and replaced with new parts as fast as possible. (Let me just say, I saw him sweating and running around. they also offered to comeback from their lunch break and deal with my repair. I told them that wasn't necessary) I had it fixed and all parts replaced within the same day. Didn't have to go through a long and painful manufacturer's RMA service. The repair rep was also super nice and jotted down every details i requested and the procedures they took with the time frame recorded on the repair receipt. What more can you ask for? I wish I can remember their names and almost wish that I could compliment them at their corporate office or something. And honestly, unlike many others mention here, I don't mind the little clutter and unorganized space with boxes sitting everywhere. It kinda makes it feel like more of a PC warehouse or like a "Home Depot" for computers. It was more fun to look around and find the parts I like. They also have a deal going on with intel i7 7700k. And the ASUS ROG Mobo. Cheapest compared to anywhere from my research. Beats Newegg and Amazon for certain other parts as well. I will certainly shop here again! read more

I like this place as a general "need parts" zone. It's hard to nearly impossible to find someone to assist you, so I know what I want before I go in. The prices are very good, however. The parking is always horribly packed, so go around the side and angle yourself closer to the hardware store. I've noticed their lines getting longer, too. I have been a customer here for over 3 years, and made many purchases. The sales staff are always extremely helpful and treat you like your important. I purchased a tower less than 2 weeks ago, and had an issue, so I went to the knowledge bar, I left the tower for a week, and every time I checked the status of the repair, it just showed checked in for service. After not being able to reach the store by phone, and the on line chat was down, I sent an email to the service manager, who responded by saying your technician will be off Wednesday and Thursday (Guess they only have one), and work will begin Friday or Saturday. I sent another email asking for an update, and it went unanswered. On Saturday I returned to the store, to discover the tower wasn't even looked at, yet alone worked on or evaluated, I told them to give me my tower back, and left the store. I sent another email to the service manager, and after stating I would be completing a negative customer survey, he decided to respond to my email. This was my first and last time ever dealing with the technical department. I do appreciate the service the store provides, and the values offered, however the knowledge bar should be converted to a café bar. read more

They're not always the lowest price but it's definitely convenient to be able to pickup and return parts same day. They can seem understaffed sometimes it's hard to find someone to help. I'm a second-time and even happier customer. I purchased my first Dell Inspiron in 2017 and returned a year and a half later when sadly, the computer was stolen. In he mood for an upgrade, but not ready to spend a lot of cash to replace it, I was very grateful to the salesman, Mr. Tavarez for spending time to find out what I wanted helping me locate a pristine "open box" model which saved me a lot of money, and runs even faster than my old one. I did check Amazon and Dell and Micro Center has the best price, hands down, I saved hundreds of dollars and only paid 3.5% in sales tax!! (Yay Enterprise Zones). The only thing preventing me from adding a fifth star to my review is their wait list system (my name was never called, or maybe someone else had my first name was called, so that added an extra 20 minutes to my time). Good but not good This place is my go-to place for electronics. They always have products that nobody else has in stores. Things that you can only find online are found here in-store. They also have the best prices. Customer service is a horrid mess. I came in to the store and I began to ask one of the employees for some help. Right in the middle of my sentence he cuts me off and tells me he has to go to the back and then walks away. Also, it seems like if you don't speak Spanish, you will not get any real help. Before I go there I make sure that I do my research online and do "in-store pickup" that way I don't have to deal with them much. read more

If you enjoy standing in line for 30+ minutes to pay for one item, this store is for you. Bring a lounge chair and some reading material. I do my best to avoid Micro Center by ordering online, but the few times that I do go, the checkout process is always a disaster. The lines are long, there are always issues at the register, and they have way too few cashiers. Even worse is the counter for picking up items ordered online and reserved in store. Here you will find 1 employee trying to process a line of 10+ customers. Between finding the order reservation, completing the checkout, and dealing with register issues, you're looking at a minimum of 5 minutes per person. Should a major issue happen, you could wait 20+ minutes before it is resolved. Oh sure, you would think management at the store would urgently find another cashier to continue processing the other customers to keep the already long line from spilling out into the streets. Not at Micro Center! You will wait and wait and wait in the same spot as managers, employees, and whomever else try to resolve the issue for as long as it takes. They make such a big deal everywhere on their website about being able to reserve an item in store and having it ready for pickup within just 18 minutes, but actually getting through the line will take probably twice as long. Maybe after they lose enough customers they can update their advertisements to add that you can also checkout within 18 minutes. Today's experience prompted me to write this review, so I can at least warn others. You would think the week after Black Friday they might have a second person to handle the internet order line, but no. After standing in the same spot for over 10 minutes while they tried to resolve some issue, I finally lost it and yelled at the manager. The manager pretty much told me she can't do anything and that there is no one else to help and went back to solving the issue they were having with the other customer. To her credit, she did find another person to help and the line started moving again. Don't waste your time coming here over a few dollars of savings. It is not worth it. read more

Sales and service department need to get on the same page. If it wasn't for the excellent sales associate Rob who was overruled by a service manager, I'd be giving 5 stars. Only if my brand new computer that I bought 1.5 was able to be replaced, the unit was in stock, even though I spent 400$ worth of upgrades the day before, the service manager decided instead of appealing to my best interest, they leave me without a machine going on 2 days. This is a power Spec model. Customers needs should always be met in a timely fashion, especially if data loss is inevitable. Should've swapped my unit to save me time, work, headache as Rob originally suggested. But not to worry, the service manager, didn't catch her name. Made sure that didn't happen. Buy it online. This place is run by idiots. On Sunday afternoon, Nov 12, 2017, I visited this location in the market to test and purchase a printer. After locating the printer department, only the HP salesman was there, obviously trying to get us to buy an HP Printer. Even after pretending like he didn't know how the other printers worked, we finally got to try another printer only to find that it was broken. The following two printers were also broken. The only other printers to try, did not support USB printing, so I tried to locate an associate to hook up a laptop. After not finding anyone able to help, I approached the manager to see about borrowing a laptop to try out. After he insisted on not helping me, I can only shake my head. There are hundreds of laptops in this place, and the manager INSISTED he couldn't spare any. I can only shake my head at this foolishness. Instead of finding a way to help a customer purchase a $400 printer, he insisted on being a stubborn idiot with ZERO business sense. The quality of people working at Microcenter has worsened since the store first opened and the negative reviews here reflect that. While it's difficult to determine the quality of service from the people that know me (and still work there), the people who don't are the ones that I'm describing in this review. They don't measure up to what Microcenter used to teach as their standard for being an employee. Perhaps it's because their competition has all gone out of business except for Fry's Electronics & Best Buy. Or perhaps it's the area. Not counting the NY stores (I haven't been to them) but for a flagship store, this Microcenter is in Paterson and in a 3.5% sales tax zone. The other Microcenter stores tend to be in affluent areas (think: Nordstrom or Short Hills Mall type of areas) of the country. I've shopped at 5 other Microcenter stores IL: Westmont & Chicago, CA: Tustin & Santa Clara (now closed since they lost their lease), and PA: St David's before this one opened in North NJ. Even when the Northern NJ store first opened, the standards from that of a normal Microcenter were a bit on the low side compared to what I was taught as a Apple Hardware/PC Systems Sales Associate at the now closed Santa Clara, CA store. Those standards now, don't seem to exist. Everyone in the store except for management, customer service, the cashiers, and the warehouse people are on commission. The folks that work in the areas between BYOPC and Systems are on pooled commission since the products in these areas are lower priced than in other departments. This means that it's in their best interest to be knowledgeable in the areas that they are assigned to sell in and they are supposed to be knowledgeable in other departments as well. Microcenter employees aren't supposed to cop an attitude and walk away from you by saying "I'm sorry, that is not my area, I cannot help you." At least they should say, "let me find someone to help." While I understand customer service is difficult when you are trying to put inventory away but a little communication would be really nice! Maybe it's asking too much to say, "it will be a few minutes sir, I'm finishing up talking to this guy w/ a tie here and will be stocking some things on the shelves but I just called on the walkie talkie for someone to bring the key so that they can help you. Will that be alright?" I had to confirm that he called for help, I had to confirm that he was trying to help me get something out of a locked case. I had to confirm my own customer service. I had to initiate the conversation because I've been in the store for over 5 minutes and not once was I ever greeted by any store employee although to be fair, I did greet Leibys & Zebe with a wave although I do not think Zebe saw me. Sure, it was 8pm at night and the store closes at 9 but that's still not an excuse. It's a good thing that I used to work w/ Leibys because he happened to see that I waiting by the locked case and asked if I needed help. Can you imagine if I was a regular customer who didn't know anyone in the store? Would customer service have been better? Last night, I purchased a few items in the store and tried to tell the cashier that Leibys was the guy that helped me out. The cashier told me that J. Salazar was the guy and that he was the assistant store manager and he was put down as the guy that got credit for the both 2 year replacement warranties that I purchased. I don't remember Leibys' last name or the spelling of his first but I do know that his name isn't J. Salazar. Having just talked to Leibys, he stated he had been promoted to sales supervisor. I recall in another time & place, that Microcenter fired a cashier and a systems sales associate for purposely putting the wrong name on a sale (several sales actually) and possibly pressed criminal charges against everyone that was in on that scam. Granted, they got caught because the cashier was ringing up massive high dollar sales in the associate's name when the sales associate was scheduled as off for that day. Perhaps this case is innocent or not, I don't know. It was only 2 $6.99 replacement plans but still, having the cashier put someone else's name on the transaction left a bad taste in my mouth. Will someone investigate this incident? Hopefully someone at Microcenter still cares about these things! Perhaps the Microcenter in Santa Clara, CA that I worked at needed to have top-notch customer service because the companies whose products we sold were right down the street! Apple, Intel, Sun Microsystems, AMD, Nvidia, etc. As for people who don't know about computers & such, Microcenter is a good place to learn and buy your next mac/pc. You just have to find the right person to learn from: I only know Matt V in Apple sales, Leibys & Zebe in Systems, Henry, Luis, & Chet at the Knowledge Bar. I wanted to write a review to let people what a good experience I had at Micro Center. I had difficult job that required recovering data files from an old external drive. They were incredibly helpful during the process and kept me in the loop while the work was underway. They helped me work out a number of issues that cam up, since I work for a large entity and payment was complicated because we were in a hurry to send our broken hard drive for data recovery. I even communicated with people at the home office in Ohio, who were also helpful, answering questions. read more

Got very upset with this story during yesterday's visit. I used to come into this store, build entire pc from their parts. It was a pleasant experience, but not this time. The story goes that I reserved a gold iPad Pro 10.5 for $499 through online on Friday, Nov. 11, 2017 and was unable to pick until Sunday because of work. I walk in the store Sunday afternoon, and saw the display unit on the counter. Soon I realized that I really like the space grey version. So I decided to swap my gold one to space grey. And it went down from here. I went to the pick up counter and stated I am there for a pick up but like to change the color to space grey, and ask will it be same price. Because by Sunday the sale is over, price went back up $599. The cashier told me yes, and he proceed the change, rang me up. The price come up $599, so I ask to clarify. So the a lady manager come explain that you can't just swap the iPad, because I reserved gold one, either I pay $499 for gold one or I pay $599 for space grey. I was like it is crazy $100 for a color change, it was a lot of money. The manager say a cold sorry, that the sale is over, I can't sell you space grey for $499. I end up with gold one out the door. On the way home, I was not happy that they could not do a simple exchange. It feels like they would not honor their sale price that I reserved. I never open the package and thinking about sell it or gift to friend. This visit was unpleasant experience, that I always thought they were friendly. Echoing the other reviewers. Great selection, great prices, service sucks - used to be better a couple of years ago, but things have definitely gone downhill. Wait times are horrendous. "18 minute" pickup needs air quotes. I put up with this stuff because they usually have really good prices. The last straw came today, with my first and last experience with their customer service desk: they sold me a motherboard that was DOA and refused to take it back four days later because they claimed that the defect it shipped with was due to improper installation - something that's quite unlikely. A minute later they dropped the Q connector and I had to explain to them that yes, this is actually a component that ships with the board. But sure, blame the guy who's been building PCs for over 20 years for a board that never POSTed from the moment it arrived, rather than the neophytes at the service desk who couldn't recognize standard parts or even get the thing back into the package properly. I'm out $100 and pretty pissed off at them. I could have come out way ahead just ordering the complete build from Amazon, and that's probably what I'll do next time. read more

I bought my pc here 3 years ago and it works great I've had no problems their builds are priced well I wouldn't recommend anywhere else to buy PCs. I gave 3 stars because I recently purchased a coolermaster - master g100m heatsink from here and asked them to install it for me, when I go to pick up my pc from being installed and go to boot up I find my cpu is running at 100 degrees c when the cooler is supposed to be great for my cpu. When I open up my pc I'm dissapointed to find that the heatsink was not installed properly. It was shaking around the motherboard because it was not secured at all when I turned my pc around to take a better look at the bracket the bolts that were supposed to be securing my heatsink fell off!! I have been a customer here for a very long time. Over the years, I'm sure my company has spent over $75000. This may not be a lot of money to them, but I think it is more than a drop in the bucket. Today they lost a long time customer over $6.99. I didn't have my receipt, and yes, their policy states that a receipt is needed but I asked the manager, Mr. Rana, to check my buying history, and to overlook the fact that I didn't have a receipt for a $6.99 item. I was looking for a store credit. In true drone form, he disregarded what I had to say and started rattling off the store policy. My laptop needed a new battery. I called microcenter to see if someone could change it out for me. I was told on the phone that they could as long as I provided the battery. I ordered it online, received the battery and went to the store. First, the young lady at the entrance sent me to the back of the store. I get back there and the tolde to go to the "Knowledge" center in the front of the store. I wait in line for half an hour to be told they can only change the battery if I purchased it from them. This is always the first place I think of when I need something in the lines of tech . I bought my first gaming PC , prebuilt, from them and got an amazing deal. They probably have just about anything you would need for your pc at good prices. Looking at some of their prebuilt gaming rigs it's amazing at some of the prices. Not sure how they pull it off. Also I got them to price match from Amazon so always ask! The only problem I have is that I wouldn't call it customer "friendly" . Not that anyone is mean or disrespectful or anything..everyone is actually pretty nice ..if you can find them , ha! It's not a small place by any measure and it can be difficult to find someone free to help you if you're not sure about something. Last time i was there I walked around for 20 mins before finding someone to help me then it took him another 20-25 mins to get what I wanted . It really seems more like a DIY type of store with a few people walking around to help those that are completely lost So some advice: before you go print out what you want from their website and if you're going to price match print out the competitors ad. Also go well before closing it seems like the employees start leaving before the doors close so even less help will be available . She has never explained about different tax rate and just processed transaction. Because I bought monitor in MD state so there is $6.00 difference and I could not received $6.00. I asked her but she just told me she can't reverse the transaction and "get out". OMG... I asked her to see store manager. store manager came. She is uneducated african american lady. Micro Center - Computers Near Me - Paterson, New Jersey

Worst experience ever. I brought my Mac to these people because it has been locking up for quite a bit lately. It only does this online and never with videos. The first "tech" ran you tube videos all day and said he had a problem with 2 sticks of the 12 Gigs of ram my iMac had. Tech stated that the problem was the ram and if I changed it then my problem would be solved. Against my better judgment I allowed him to change it and the next day after I got it back VOILA!! Froze up online. So I bring it back and they have another "tech" look at it. After a week I hear from this expert that proceeds to tell me the problem is actually my processor (an I3) is old and can't handle the processes I'm asking it to do (the only thing I do with my computer is internet related, i.e.: browsing and looking things up). He tells me that the only way to fix it is by changing the motherboard because they are integrated and you can't even do that because they are soldered to the machine. They refuse to refund the diagnostic fee even though they didn't diagnose the problem with the Mac. When I voiced my reservations to the repair manager (Andre) about their ability to properly diagnose a Mac he told me that it didn't matter because they have a relationship with Apple corporate and that Apple would continue to recommend Micro Center as a certified repair center. So the next day while going through the history I notice that the entire history was deleted from Safari for the time the computer was at Microcenter; including pages they were specifically told not to close. While my wife was searching through her Firefox history she found 12 different searches of Youtube and Yahoo on "how to stress a Mac CPU" along with other searches where the subject was how to fix my Mac. These clowns actually searched on my computer how to fix MY COMPUTER! The only reason you would delete the history was if you did not want someone to see what you were doing or where you were going. I have spoken to a Senior Level Apple technician and he has stated that while the I3 processor is a bit older it is by no means incapable of handling 15 open windows when the machine has 12 Gigs of ram. I urge you to stay far away from this place with your Mac because they are by no stretch of the imagination qualified to work on it. read more

Went in just to pick up an online order, was expecting to not have a great experience from the other reviews I read. I get in and they had a small issue with my order, no one could find it at first. Then Matt H came along found it in just a couple minutes, took a look at my order and helped me get a better case and switched out the ram I was getting to save me about $20. Everyone as far as I could tell was at the very least competent as far as computers are concerned and the staff in the build your own department were exceptionally knowledgeable about everything from cpus to case sizing and part compatibility. It was my first time there but I will definitely be back when I want to upgrade again. Great overall experience. Just wish the parking situation was a little better as the parking lot is almost always full open to close from what I can see. read more

Just had quite possibly the worst buying experience ever. Got a sale flyer email from these guys and decided to go in for a big screen. To begin with they didn't have anything that was on the sale flyer. Ok, whatever, I'll look around. After working with a young sales associate made a decision. He went in the back and they didn't have it, but they did have one that was a bit better and and a bit more expensive, ok fine. Got it home and after playing with the settings and different options just couldn't get a sharp enough picture. Middle of the road 4K model so I understand. Took it back with the intention of going high end to get what I wanted in a big TV. Got there and at least the return process was easy. Went back into the department and looked at basically the most expensive ones they had, spent about 45 minutes with a different associate settled on what I think was the most expensive one there. Pulled the trigger, guy goes in the back....they don't have it. Then I can either walk out or settle for a less expensive model. Decided to just complete my return transaction and leave. During the time it took to do the return instead of an exchange for a much more expensive item, no one approached me, no manager stopped by. Instead, basically a bunch of kids shrugging their shoulders as a disgruntled customer and a big$$$ sale walked out the door. I guess they are ok if you need a cable or something, but really would not recommend for any big ticket items. read more

I dont understand the poor reviews- this place is great! So much nicer than those huge corporate computer places where you feel invisible, like a number, and utterly lost. We werent looking around for more than a couple minutes before a friendly face approached us, asked what she could help us find, and guided us toward the PC section to browse laptops. Dan helped us, never pushed a sale, plugged in all that we were interested in and needed (weight, thickness, price, OS, speed, storage, even color!), and walked us over to several models. He's been working there for a while (or at least in the industry), and knew what to suggest based on our needs! Also super nice and efficient. We also needed to return something and although there was a short line, the employee there was also nice. Store was clean, signage helped us navigate the store well, tax is 3.5%! read more

I wonder why overall this place only has 2 1/2 stars? I have been there a few times and I have never had problems with the help fromm service reps or products. Over all when you go shopping you should no what you want, need, how much your willing to spend, and stick to it. I love looking online at refurbished and open box items. I have been going to this location for years and most likely will not go back due to the horrible decline in customer service. Like others have stated, Micro Center does offer great prices and product selection. The warranties offered for their computers was also one of the largest reasons why I have been going to this store as opposed to Best Buy for large purchases (assistance in upgrading parts, diagnostics, etc.). I also did have the pleasure of being assisted by helpful associates who were excellent in answering questions for me and making informed suggestions when shopping for items. Unfortunately, these experiences are now outnumbered by apathetic and ill-mannered associates. In the past two visits to this location, I have not once been greeted or asked if I needed help when it was clear I was seeking assistance or ready to make a purchase. This could be the case of being under staffed, but with my visit earlier today, that was not the issue. After waiting for assistance, I found a worker who wasn't with anyone and didn't appear to be busy. I approached and asked him if the store had a particular line of ultrabooks I saw was available in stock at this location (through their website). He told me that they didn't carry that line in store, even though I'm checking the site now and it clearly says several are in stock at that location. I then asked if he had a similar type of ultrabook from Dell, to which he responded by pointing to the Dell sign and rudely asking, "Have you checked out our Dell section?" My excitement quickly soured after this response as he tried to show me the models with a poor tone of voice. I thanked him and told him I would keep browsing. This next part my sister told me about and I didn't see - this coworker then went back to his colleague/manager, said something she couldn't hear, and the other coworker apparently looked me up and down and made a face while my back was turned. My sister gave him a look and he meekly said hello to her when he realized we were together. In another previous visit, my other sister asked an associate if they had any FLAC media player on the floor. The associate clearly did not know what she was asking for, and when she explained it, he told her "you can just get an iPod" and seemingly dismissed her to help another party. Another poor instance of bad customer service was when I brought my desktop in that I purchased from them in to upgrade the memory. The technician made it clear that it was "really easy" and what I needed the extra memory for. When I explained to him I played a lot of games, he chuckled and told me "So you play a lot of computer games but don't know a lot about computers?" Understandably, this upset me, but at the time - not enough to not come back. After all these experiences (especially today), I'm done with Micro Center. Within the same hour, I visited the Best Buy in Secaucus, was greeted immediately, and was assisted in finding the laptop model that I originally went to Micro Center to purchase. The associate was incredibly patient, knowledgeable, and honest when he didn't know the answer. During the same visit, I was also asked by SEVERAL other employees if I needed help. I'm happily writing this review from my new laptop with a comparable warranty that has been updated by Best Buy that originally attracted me to Micro Center in the first place. I'm very glad I was able to make my $1900 purchase at a store that appreciated their customers (similarly told this to Best Buy). Micro Center - you really need to either re-train your employees or hire more people to help with the floor sales. You lost a large sale today and lost the customer loyalty of my family and myself. read more
