I urgently needed a laptop for work. So I go to Microcenter, Paterson NJ and I ased a few salesmen for help. They bring me over to a young man who is joking and laughing with someone. They tell the young man that I need help and he continues to joke and laugh with the other person for at least two or three minutes and ignore me. This obviously began to anger me because I needed help and he had an attitude that I was going to wait until he was damn well ready to help me. When he finally did help me, he went to the back to check for something and never returned. So I walked out. I have shopped at Microcenter for the past twenty years but never again. read more

My partner and I live near this specific Microcenter and we love building our computers and getting upgrades. Through the years, we have a reoccurring issue with the fact that we purchase a product (our tv, graphics card, new headset, etc) we speak to the sales person about warranty and they give you a card to bring to the cashier. The cashier's NEVER add in our warranty. Not to mention, we have had several products we have had to return (not blaming Microcenter for a manufacturing issue) such as our mic stand and mic only to find out we had 0 warranty on it. We always have to remind the person up front and question them about warranty no matter who it is that day working at the cashier. It's shocking to me how it's not automatically offered to every person. I would say 90% of our purchases there are over $100 and an item eligible for warranty. It's understandable that we as the customers should remember on our own and ask as well - but you would think if I come to the register with the warranty card from the sales rep, they would honor it. I complain about the warranty because they are NOT easy on returns. Anytime we have to return or bring a product back, we have to read them the fine print on the receipt because without warranty, it's war to return an item here. If you are going to purchase a product the review would be 4/5, the sales reps approach you, they help, they are educated about the products, they absolutely want to sell you an item. However, the check out and return processes are not up to par. For that, this place gets a 2/10 from us and we are actively looking for a new store to grow and build our gaming set ups at. We don't appreciate putting so much $ into a place and being treated like we're in the wrong when we say a product is giving us an issue or not working as advertised. Everything for us is trial and error / a learning process - so if we expected an item to work a specific way and it does not, we expect to be able to bring it back and discuss other options with a sales rep with no issues or arguments. Especially if we are within the allowed return time frame as well as have a receipt. read more

My story is quite a long one but I'll keep it as short as possible: I made MAJOR mistake and returned a motherboard with my nearly $300 ssd m.2 hard drive still attached under the heat sink on the board. I returned the board Friday 12/15 and didn't realize until Sunday 12/17. The problem was micro center had already sent the board back RTV to their dist center on Saturday 12/16. After a few phone calls and emails, less than 24 hours later Michael from the Paterson store called and informed me the distribution center in OH located the board in the warehouse! They said they'll have it in a few days and wcall me to pick it up. I want to thank Michael and the team at MicroCenter. They went above and beyond, especially during their busiest time of the year. I really owe them. I've been a MC customer for 2 decades and will continue to shop there for all my electronics and computer parts. Edit: Just back back home from MicroCenter. Usually when I go here, the guys are so supportive. Today not so much. I went in to get help with my external hard drive. It stopped working and last time I went in with a similar issue the tech team helped me. They were awesome, so I decided to go back today for a similar issue. Today I went to stand in line for tech support and some employee with a blue sports coat asked me if I needed help. Eric was his name. He then real negatively said in order to speak to a tech I would have to pay $40. Just to plug in my hard drive and tell me what's wrong with it. Then they would most likely have to send it out anyway. If I had it sent out it would cost me $1400 to retrieve anything off the hard drive that cost me only $50. So I told him last time no one charged me to speak to a tech and plug in my device to tell me if it's broke or not. His response was " You can go plug it in one of those computers to see if it's broke." As if I knew about external hard drives and what might be wrong with it. If that was the case why would I even come in for help? I have been in the customer service business for 15 years and I would never tell a customer to go do it yourself. He was extremely rude and unprofessional. I never write posts like this, but it made me so mad that I had to come on and express the negativity that was clearly given to me as a paying customer. This store has everything you would possible need for your PC and their prices are pretty good. Sales tax in the area is just 3.5% but service is a hit or miss. Some of the staff is knowledgeable and kind while others are dumb as rocks and seem to be just hanging out instead of working. The way they organize their online orders for store pick up is also a complete mess. It take forever for them to retrieve your order when you come to pick it up. On my last visit, I waited 40 mins to pick up my order, never again. read more

My nephew used to work at this place for years; he convinced me to meet him there, and I bought a $4500 MacBook. A week later, i received an promotion for a Smart Tv; I ordered it and went to pick it up after I got an email confirmation. This time , the experience was completely different. First, I was told that the TV was "un-inventoried" ... Huh? I said! What does that mean? The inventory supervisor told me it was not there! I was very upset and told him that I drove almost an hour min traffic and want the TV . The guy gave me an attitude that reminded me of the one time I walked into a "Starbucks ", and left to never go back. A elitist attitude that stinks. He disappeared for a few minutes and showed up at the other end of this warehouse, waved at me with his pointer to follow him... a gesture more suitable for a dog. I bit my tongue and followed him, to this place where he handed me a big box, and voila, the TV showed up, and with it came a smirk that made me want to puke. Getting the TV is another matter, I don't have the time to describe. A week later, they sent me a customer survey; and I was glad to fill it out and send back. I got a phone call from. Manager by the name " John Johnson" , who asked me to elaborate on the visit, he apologized and offered to make it up by giving me a $75 credit towards the price of the TV. I never received that. Great store if you're interested in bargain basement technology, are looking to buy things that are missing parts because someone tore into it and now it's on 'clearance' or know anything about what you're doing with technology, because the staff sure doesn't. I spent four hours in that store looking at various products prepared to buy a laptop, a set of EarPods, and parts for my 3-D printer. I left with nothing mostly because no one really knew or were in the right department for their skill level. On top of that, The price tags would literally change while you were waiting for somebody and then you would get yelled that because the price tags had changed or their price match policy is now so difficult that I ended up just walking away while an apple "rep" was explaining to me why there was a stack of EarPods, a tag stating GEN 2 ear pods, and A sign saying out of stock while there is an was an entire row of them and they are selling missed labeled Product. If you I do not know that Apple releases multiple hardware revisions, what they are selling as generation 2 EarPods, aren't. Basic point if you really need help - or are trying to save money don't bother price matching there because it's a waste of time. Just speak with the company that you wanted to price match in the first place and life will be much much easier. Or make sure that you pre-order and just pick up it's not worth it to go there the people are so uninformed and the store is a dirty mess. You're wasting your time. Not a tech chick but came here to get my iPads fixed. HORRIBLE service. I waited in the area about 30 + minutes for some assistance all while I visibly watched associated chat and act as if no one was waiting. The monitor was down so there was no way to see who was next or if there were any other in front. Finally after asking 3 people for help a manager stopped an associate from walking away to assist me... all this so I could drop off my iPads to get fixed. Fast forward a few days I get a call that they could not fix them (cracked screens, reset etc) I hear such great things about this place however I can not spread that sentiment and will not be returning at all. read more

As a computer nerd, I wish I knew about this place before I built my first PC. Huge selection of parts / components with great deals that beat out some online retailers. I also like the 3.5 percent sales tax. Only gripe is customer service in some sections of the store ( preferably the PC parts section ). In this section . 1-3 employees are at the " build your own PC" desk. There is usually a line and can take 30-40 minutes to get help.If you do spot an employee , they are usually knowledgeable and helpful if they are in their own section of the store. They will not help anyone outside of their own section. A nice store with great deals , just wish the place had more staff. read more

Informative and very friendly- today I finally got around to opening my new gifted laptop and as I was setting it up realized I had the wrong model. If you're in the market for a computer, accessory, peripheral, mouse, digital camera (do people actually still use them?), TV, or just about anything else tech, Micro Center is the place to go. Staff is friendly, knowledgeable and eager to help (even though I doubt if any of them have ever kissed a girl). Prices, while not always rock bottom, are generally close, certainly better than Best Buy and not much higher than say Amazon. The store is laid out logically by department although certain accessories are in multiple locations, making comparison difficult. Some of the isles are somewhat disheveled but I guess it's difficult to keep up housekeeping in a busy store. Lines to check out can also be long, something I never understood. When you have a retail business you want people to be able to fork over their cash as quickly as possible. Worth noting is that Micro Center is in the hood but don't worry, no one is going to bust a cap in your ass. What's good about it is that they charge 3% sales tax and hey, every penny counts, especially when you're buying a big ticket item. Hell, I bought a $100 flash drive Friday night and the tax savings paid for me to eat an entire bag of beef jerky while waiting for the slow ass check out line to move. Micro Center is like a PC oriented version of Best Buy, but sells most of what Best Buy also does. However, there is more emphasis on computers, hardware, software, and peripherals over televisions and the like. Pricing for Micro Center is very aggressive, and one can find a deal on most products, but other products that aren't electrical like TVs or computers might be equally priced to another firm's. With the exception, being in Paterson sales tax is only 3.5% not 7% like at Best Buy in Paramus, so that's a plus. I purchased three machines from there; two desk tops and one notebook, and all three machines with three year warranties ran me about $600 a piece, and a 41" 1080P LCD TV for $500 after tax. All three of the machines are multimedia machines capable of playing the latest PC games, despite not being actual gaming machines. In my experience, sales reps are eager to wheel and deal on certain items if you purchase the warranty, and my laptop was a return with zero defects, so I got it for a good price. The store is relatively big, and laid out with like items together for the most part, customer service is generally pretty good, but this place is usually busy with LONG lines. There is a help desk that you may or may not have to interact with, but if you do you're probably going to have a bit of a wait on your hands. Because of the volume of customers transactions seem to take a little longer than they should. I had no major issues with Micro Center in the past, only a few minor ones, but I will continue frequenting them for future PC needs. You might be better suited doing research on their website first, because what they have in the store is the same as their site. (so the salesman says) This will help reduce wasted time standing around looking for product, or a salesman to help get you to the cash register. read more

Of all the businesses adapting to COVID-19 this place is way behind the curve. Pandemic aside - how does a store that specializes in selling computers not have a proper e-commerce site? I can purchase everything from yoga to pizza online but I can't buy a damn tablet from this place online. You cannot buy anything online here - you "reserve" a product, then you show up to the store...there are people lined up 6 feet apart, no sign or anything helpful. Finally someone in a face mask asks you what you're here for, takes your number and says to wait in your car for 45 minutes. I wait in my car for an hour and get back online...they say there are 48 people ahead of me and it will take another 2 hours. They also have accessories for TVs, stereos, basically all multimedia platforms. The associates that work here are extremely knowledgeable as well. They can lead you in the right direction and they don't work on commission here. Parking is usually a breeze except on weekends. Pricing is also competitive with online but the advantage is that you don't have a wait time. I approached this micro center year and a half ago, it has all the equipment someone requires to build a pc. I went to purchase all the parts from this place most pieces were on high-end and I ended up with 2-year warranties. I walked in today to exchange a pair of headsets and I had a hard time negotiating with the guy in the knowledge section who told me that he would give me a code for me to be able to exchange a perfectly fine pair of headsets for a newer one. I had waited some time after the guy got back to prior to him saying he would process the service to replace the headsets he gave me a reason that made no sense. No efforts but said the item needs to be damaged to be replaced. Not only did I end up wasting money on the warranty parts but ended up not only wasting my time but not following up with any reason as to why I can't replace them. He has no little manners or respect for this misconduct deal. Misleading and have no respect for their own customers. I should return and sell back my whole set up just to prove a point on how bad i was treated for the amount of money they got from me read more
