Aside from the terrible location (surrounded by homeless people), this is an absolute nerd heaven store. It has literally everything you could want if you're into tech. The computer bundles especially are too hard to pass up on. I got an AMD CPU, motherboard, and RAM sticks for $300 that would have otherwise cost over $400 anywhere else. If you want to build gaming PCs on the cheap, look no further. They also have a small team of guys that can help you pick out items based on a build you're wanting. Personally, I find it easier to just use PCPartPicker and flesh out a build there but then pick it up here. read more

I know I can always get better prices on anything I would get here somewhere else online, but when I need something same hour, I'm really glad this place is here. They have it. The price isn't horrible. It's worth the convenience of instant availability when I need it. As an IT person, I can tell you the staff definitely vary in the accuracy and level of their knowledge, but I am sure glad they're there, because this is a huge store with thousands upon thousands of parts, and sometimes, even if you know a lot more about what you're buying than the people helping you find it, they can still help you find it 10-15 minutes faster than you would otherwise. This place is that busy, that crowded, and that big. Pretty much THE place to go for computer parts and accessories. For more technical electronic parts, I'd definitely hit EPO on Fondren instead. I have been wanting to visit a Micro Center for the longest time and jumped on the opportunity to stop by when I was visiting Houston. Walking inside for the first time gave me the same vibes as Fry's Electronics with all types of electronics you can find online directly in front of you. I was surprised to see so many different keyboard parts that you can usually only find on specific websites, but everything I needed was combined into one aisle. Comparing the prices of graphics cards and motherboards just seems like a no-brainer to purchase these parts are Microcenter since the deals are discounted compared to other retail websites. I ended up not making a big purchase to take back home, but next time I come back I'd be sure to buy my next graphics card. As I was leaving, I wanted to buy something Microcenter branded like a T-shirt or tote bag, but the best I could find was a USB stick near the registers. I'll be sure to visit the next closest store in LA, but overall this visit was an awesome experience as a computer enthusiast. read more

Thumbs Up: Micro Center is a one-stop shop for computers, hardware, and accessories. They carry just about everything tech-related, and the in-store selection is one of the best in the city. Neutral: There's only one location in Houston, which means it's always busy. Lines can get ridiculously long, especially at peak times, so be prepared to wait. Neutral: Getting in and out of the parking lot is a nightmare. The store sits at the corner of a major intersection with only one entrance from the street. It can take up to 10 minutes just to turn into the lot, and it's not unusual to feel like you're risking a head-on collision just to get in. Thumbs Up: They occasionally mail out ads offering free flash drives, and honestly, those promos are the main reason I brave that part of town and the chaotic traffic. CAUTION: Most recently, I brought in my PC for a Windows 10 update issue, and the staff misunderstood my request. Instead of targeted troubleshooting, I was told the system needed a full wipe and reinstall--despite me clearly explaining that the update failure was tied to a common Corsair-related error. It felt like the technician wasn't really listening, which was disappointing. read more

Now that the ordeal is over and I have a cooler head, I thought I'd re-write my original 1 star review. This time around in my 30 or so years of using homemade computers, I had waited so long that I could only really reuse my SSD, HDD, GPU, and my Windows license so I though I would splurge and build a machine based on the latest and greatest 13th gen i9, DDR5, and Z790 motherboard. As luck would have it, they had a combo deal with ASUS TUF motherboard and ZSkill DDR 5 RAM. The only things I weren't sure about was what case I would get that wouldn't have RGB, what power supply to get, and what type of CPU cooler I would need since those aren't included. I used to get my parts through newegg and amazon but I really wanted to help out local physical stores so I went with Microcenter. When I went to Microcenter, the gentleman there in the back with the "build your own PC" group was very helpful. I got what I needed and happily went home and started building my machine. It was a beautiful build if I do say so myself. Cable management and everything. But the damn thing would not register/start and would just freeze on startup not even giving a prompt. I took things apart again and double checked every detail - CPU was seated right, memory was seated right, no power cords had come loose, No chasis cables were loose. One thing I was hoping by purchasing from a local store was that if something went wrong, they would stand behind the product, but that wasn't the case. You are on your own almost as much as if you bought your parts online. They have a "knowledge bar" and the first person to help me there made an attempt but he kind of just gave up too and told me to take out the part and replace it. In my mind, I could have done that with amazon as well and instead of going through the trouble of going to Microcenter just drop it off at Whole Foods and get dinner too. To their credit, they replaced the MB but it also did not work so it was obvious that there is some sort of failure between the MB, CPU, and RAM...but then THIS WAS A COMBO so you'd think they'd thoroughly test it first to make sure it all works well together. So today, I thought I'd give them one last chance. If they could make it work then they wouldn't lose the sale but the guy was basically saying that if I put everything back in the boxes, i'd get a refund. If he had to disassemble it, there would be like $117 charge (something like that). Zero attempt to make me me go home with a working computer. He told the guy in front me with a new laptop that he also could return his laptop but if he tried to troubleshoot it, there would be a $40 fee. That's the Knowledge Bar in a nutshell - low level stuff. So I disassembled everything for the 4th time...in the store thankfully. At least they gave me the dignity of not having to do it in the parking lot like in Autozone with an alternator. As mentioned though, this was my 4th time trying to make this work and taking things apart so the whole thing took a half hour max. To their credit again, the cashiers gave my money back and didn't hassle me, but it didn't have to get this far. They could have first chosen a combo pack that worked. They could have took the machine in the back and used their weight with the manufacturers to troubleshoot the problem. Really the only benefit is that they are local and you get the parts there. I'm not saying don't buy from here, in fact the opposite. Please buy your parts here when you can, but just remember that you ARE still on your own when it comes to the build, even if it's not your fault and you've done everything right. The knowledge bar is there mostly for older/inexperienced people to come and put ram in their computer or back their data up. It's not for the guy behind the counter to be your buddy and figure out why your build doesn't work, even though that could potentially be a huge advantage for them over amazon and newegg. So I'm back to square one. I feel bad because I know they can't resell the parts I returned and really the issue is with the memory/motherboard so the i9 chip, CPU cooler, Case, and PSU were innocent bystanders, alas, again, they could have spent an extra half hour with the machine and make it work but they didn't. On another note, ASUS motherboards seem to have this issue alot. I've been searching on PC build forums and it's not just limited to this model. Last time I'm buying ASUS. My old AsRock board has been a champ for 10 years now. read more

But they have the best prices.The Knowledge Bar Services have been every helpful on every upgrade on my pre build. They know a lot about Windows and their always at least one person sometimes two that know about apple/mac. as far as Linux their knowledge is non-existent. We arrived 30 minutes before closing for my son to purchase RX9070XT graphics card. The young man that helped us was very knowledgeable & polite. He asked if my son had a power supply that could support this card. He showed us to the one my son wanted. We walked around the store being our first time there and we drove nearly an hour to get there. I ended up finding a few items for myself. The gentleman that helped me choose a mouse and keyboard was extremely helpful. In all we interacted four different staff members and they were all super friendly, knowledgeable, & very courteous. I'm building a new pc for streaming and gaming. I could have easily ordered from online but since I have never been to a Micro Center I decided to take a short flight to Houston to come check it out. Here's my honest review. The outside parking lot and entrance was clean and inviting. The lighting inside was slightly darker than expected and I had expected to see components displayed like in other stores. But the aisles were well-labeled. The associates were courteous- we were approached with offers for assistance from multiple individuals throughout the store without being overbearing. The "build your own" help desk was very knowledgeable and provided suggestions regarding components for optimal performance for my usage needs. Evan was confident and a good example of how that department of the store should be ran. 4.5 stars. Carlos greeted us quickly when we entered the store, and was very helpful. He let us check out the sim racing setup (will be coming back in a few months for some parts for mine). I have had many years of success and happiness coming here for electronics and I'm glad there are so many options for build your own PC. Lately though I have BYOPC burnout so I haven't been as focused on components. The list of things I've bought from here - Desktop PC's (Gaming and Business, powerspec, hp omen, dell) - Desktop GPU, processors, RAM, gaming accessories, SSDs, HDDs - Monitors, all sizes and resolutions - Network equipment, routers, adapters, and cables - Gaming notebooks - TVs - Drones - Digital Cameras So far Micro Center has come through with quality on each interaction but there's one standout experience that hasn't hit the mark - mobile & accessories - it is split up around the store with car mounts in one area, new devices in one area, cases in another, and headphones in yet another place. Wouldn't it make sense to place it all in one area..maybe chop off some of the dell area that has alienware and returned monitors Anyway, a symptom of the neglect of mobile would be several units of Beats Flex headphones that were DoA (dead on arrival). After my first unit didn't power on, i thought it was a fluke and exchanged for second unit. Unfortunately that unit was DoA as well. Went to the Apple store to buy the exact same model and color and it was charged 100% from the store and paired in one try. My long history of purchases worked out great, but Apple Store and Best Buy is still the king with iOS accessories & devices. If mobile is central to Micro Center's success in Houston, suggesting a remodel around it, and more attention to detail. Everything else is going great, hence still having 5 stars. Been trying to post this review on Google, but it keeps getting blocked so I can see why there is such difference in average rating. My first and likely last experience with Micro Center was not a positive one whatsoever. While visiting Houston on July 5th, I stopped by to not only check out a MC for the first time ever...but use that opportunity to also pick up their $499.99 7800x3D bundle I'd been eyeing for a while. Before going to the store, I saw online they had a coupon for new customers to get $25 off $100+ purchase. When I get to checkout, the employees refuses to try the coupon stating it won't work. Nowhere on the coupon does it say it's not valid for bundles, just that it can't combine with other coupons...but he refuses. After checkout, I noticed the bundle did not ring up with any other sort of coupon code, so not really clear what the issue was with trying. Not a huge deal, but the coupon should definitely state more than just "Coupon cannot be used with other coupons" and should explicitly state bundles are excluded if that's the case. Fast forward to July 15th and I noticed the price of the bundle I bought had dropped to $479.99. After looking through the MC site, I see they offer price protection for up to 30 days and it can be done remotely if you paid with an AmEx, as I did. I live 400 miles from the store, so I chat in and they say because it was a bundle, only the store could do it and they'll forward my request to the store manager. While at work, I noticed a missed call from someone in Houston but they leave no voicemail. I call back, no answer, so I leave a voicemail. A Cynthia from the Houston store calls back, immediately very rude and acting as if I was bothering her. When I start to explain the reason I contacted support, she quickly starts to cut me off stating that she already tried calling to explain that they won't honor the price protection because bundle prices constantly change. I attempt explaining to her that it mentions bundles are included in the price protection, but she just keeps trying to talk over me and say they simply won't do it. I ask if she's a manager, she tells me no and won't hand me off to one because she's just been told to handle it. I let her know I'll contact support online again and hang up. That evening, I find an email for customer relations on the Micro Center support forums and send a message explaining the situation. Unsure if it's due to that email, but about an hour following that email, a Ty from the Houston store leaves me a message. In his voicemail, he claims that it's no problem to adjust the price, he just needed to know what it was for and to either call or text back. So, I text him all of the details, including a link to the new lower price, etc. and also let him know upfront that I had also already emailed customer relations. He never responded. It's now 2 full weeks later and I've yet to hear back from anyone at the Houston store or even get a response back from the customer relations email. And of course, even though the bundle went down even more to $469.99in the midst of this, it's now back to the original $499.99 price. At the end of the day, sure it's only $20-$30...but customer services means a lot more than a few bucks. Micro Center should really work on updating their documentation/policies and making sure their employees understand them. I looked through the coupons, the price protection, etc. nothing on either one states bundles are excluded from coupons or price protection. To get different answers from multiple employees and to have one of them just be so nasty towards me for absolutely no reason, left a very poor first impression. I had plans to purchase some other components for my build to be shipped with the coupon I couldn't use originally, but ended up spending my money elsewhere after such a poor experience. read more

It was my first time going to a computer super store in Houston. When I entered the Micro Cebter, it gave me a nostalgic vibe similar to Frys Electronics but better. Customer service is amazing. Lots of displays to try out Laptops and Desktops. They have EVERYTHING and is a true paradise to all PC Gamers. I'd like to give a special shout out to Johnny. He was patient and really spent time helping me decide between laptops or a desktop. I ended up getting the new prototype Asus Scar 17 with the very first Amd Ryzen 9 7945x3D chip. I've been to this store twice in the last month, and the level of quality and service offered in store blew me away. Originally I went in on March 6th to get the 9070XT, I needed to upgrade my PSU but had no idea which one would be good for me. I asked the employee who rang me up for guidance, and not only was he happy to oblige, he walked me over to the PSU section and picked out a perfect one for me, despite having a line of over 200+ people waiting. That is top notch quality and I would have been struggling and lost if he hadn't helped! He was really fast with it too, knew his stuff so it didn't take more than 5 minutes to get me taken care of. I checked out and the cashier was extremely kind and knowledgeable too. Then I went in again about a week ago to complete my upgrade my buying a Motherboard, CPU, and RAM. Was almost immediately helped out once I committed to my decision of buying the 9950x3d, then went to online pick up to get the rest of my order. The online experience wasn't smoove at all if I'm honest when it comes to adding to cart and checking out. But thankfully the in person experience was just as good if not better than last time. The guy gave me some solid advice and reassured me that the upgrade I'm making is completely worth the money which made me happy with my purchase. Got home fixed my computer up again and all the hardware is in perfect working condition! I recently bought my M3 Pro MacBook from the Houston Micro Center. At the time, I was also considering purchasing an Apple Pencil. The Sales Associate introduced me to the brand new MacBook. It was over my budget, but I really liked it. He pointed out that there was a discounted price due to a promotion. He assisted me in comparing models and inquired if I needed financing. His passion was evident, and it left a positive impression on me. I thought to myself: life is short, I like this deal, I want to use this MacBook to earn more money, and I want to be positive and happy, just like the staff at Micro Center. The Sales Associate even introduced me to his supervisor, who thanked me for my business, and then guided me to the cashier. Once again, the cashier was very helpful, explaining the details of their insurance plan for my MacBook. Everyone was friendly, and every task was completed efficiently. I didn't feel like I wasted any time in the shop. I left feeling that the service at Micro Center is superior to that of other electronics stores. In that moment, I felt my passion for the latest technology reignited. When I got home that night, I explored my new MacBook until 1 AM. Friends asked me where to buy a good laptop, my answer is always Micro Center. Because I had a satisfied experience with a laptop I bought 2 years ago. I never had any issues whatsoever, unlike laptops from Best Buy. I'm back to Micro Center, shopping for another laptop. Yes. I measure laptop with my arm, hand and fingers. Not because I didn't bring a measuring tape but I need to feel laptop keyboard and case, not by inches. (I think majority of photos were removed from the biz page, only a handful left.) I was so glad Micro Center moved from that old location by Richmond on the Loop. I dealt with bright glowing lights from the sign until 2014. At this location on Rice, my only concern is how to get here. Google Maps and Waze apps took me in the weirdest way getting here. Just so happened, I found a better way to get here. Thanks to the construction of Southwest Freeway and Loop 610. I exited Westpark to avoid freeway jam and here I am. read more

I like this place. You have a ton of workers here that know a lot about computers. What I like about them is that if they don't know. They rely on each other to come up with a good solution. I've been here twice. And each time. My experience has been far better than Best Buy's computer team. Not that Best Buy is bad. I entrusted MC to transfer data from a desktop to a new laptop. Upon review it seems MC did not return my hard drives to the old system. Hence, MC and its representatives removed and retained my hard drives without my knowledge. This is despicable to confiscate sensitive and personal data. Be forewarned that entrusting Micro Center to work on your system exposes you to great loss. Despite their self-entitled "Best Computer Store in Houston" you'd be better served to research and find a trustworthy and competent company to handle to computer issues. read more
