Beware of returned items. Sure the prices look good but if you ask why it is returned, they will lie to you. I bought a graphics card and asked, after typing what I'm assuming was gibberish on the keyboard the cashier says, "no reason was left." However, after peeling off two layers of yellow stickers one explicitly states the reason the card was returned. I wouldn't have bought it if I knew it had this particular issue. Currently waiting for a response from online support to see how they will handle it. I hate that this is the only computer shop nearby, because the last time I had an overall positive experience dealing with the staff there was January of 2011. read more

The prices! I live in Va. Beach and drove up here just to get the components for my brand new rig. I ran across an online article mentioning them saying "If you're fortunate enough to live near a Micro Center, you'll be able to pick this up for $xxx.xx" Didn't believe it was true, so I called them. Pros- A great selection and they most always have what you want in stock and if they don't, they'll usually have it within a few days. A friend of mine was looking for a GTX 970 shortly after they came out, he had to wait about a week, but they did wind up having one. When you find a knowledgeable associate that isn't as worried about his/her commission, you'll have a great experience. I walked in there earlier this month to pick up a Samsung 850 pro SSD and I asked one of the associates where I could find it. He gave me a piece up paper and routed me to the checkout where it was promptly brought out. No muss, no fuss. No trying to upsell me to a larger capacity or a more expensive one. But that's not always the case (See below). Cons- The store isn't for people who are not experienced with computers. If you go in there and don't know much about computers, there are salesmen (just a few of them - most of the associates I've dealt with are great, but some of them just care about selling you expensive stuff to up their commissions) there who will see you as a cash cow and will try to upsell you on some garbage you don't need. Had another friend who went in to build a computer to primarily play World of Warcraft and a couple of newer games. We were planning to get him a GTX 770 and SLI it in the future The associate came over and asked us if we needed help and we told him we were fine. He then saw we were looking at Graphics Cards and immediately tried to upsell him to the 970 or 980, and all he could talk about was that the 970 was a 4GB card, because that's CLEARLY the be all, end all with GPUs. We asked him what other benefits it held (the 770 costed under 300 on sale) and he couldn't tell us about anything other than the increased memory, which he constantly looped back to. He was more concerned with getting a higher commission than actually helping, which is very disheartening. The store is old, and not very well organized. Update---- I was recently contacted by MC to get my feedback on the issue. I am changing my review to reflect that call. Thank you MC. So I generally like microcenter but have been going there less and less. I think customer service is overall ok but... My biggest issue recently is not with the 3D printer I bought there but just trying to get microcenter to stock more black filament for it as they are always out. If black is so common and popular you would think the MC purchasing agents would order more of it rather than so much green, yellow and purple that people don't use. You can almost NEVER get through by phone during business hours so you have to drive there only to find they still don't have your product. When you can get through then "yes we have it" so then you drive there only to find what they ACTUALLY have is for a different model. Don't trust online inventory either. Says they have 4 in stock so you drive 45 minutes and they actually have 0. Yesterday MC online inventory at my location said 0 but I stopped in for something else and they had black in stock and on the shelf. Since I use my printer for business it is extremely frustrating not being able to get one of the most common color filaments for it especially since I bough the machine at MC in the first place. And as many times as I've asked MC reps to please have management order more black and just be ignored time and time again just sucks. read more

Ive built a few computers from parts purchased here. This is a great store with great selection and very good prices when on special. The greatest advantage is that if parts dont work or conflict with your computer you just return them - no postage. The second best thing is the people working there. They are very knowledgeable. I went in for a new WiFi usb dongle (my old one wasnt working well) and the person that helped me knew which type worked best with my particular FIOS router. My internet speed literally tripled. There have been other times when they recommend different upgrades on my builds that increase performance and reduce cost. Really helpful and timesaving. read more

Very happy with the price and quality of the laptop I purchased as well as being able to reserve online. That being said I am not impressed with customer service provided. I would have appreciated the option to pay online to avoid the in person transaction during a pandemic, but that is not an option for some reason. I had requested the extended service warranty as well as the accidental damage coverage. Upon returning home on realized that I was only charged for the extended service warranty, not the accidental damage coverage. When I inquired about this I was informed that I would have to come back to the store to pay in person. I believe that is horrible customer service during a pandemic when we are told to stay home, not to mention I should have been charged for this to begin with since I requested it. I have made a few purchases from Micro Center over the past couple years, and as a whole their sales people have been very kind and helpful. I purchased an Amplifi Mesh Wifi the other day. One of the parts did not work, so I exchanged it for another. Unfortunately they didn't have the same model I bought, they had a slightly more expensive one, $330 was my initial purchase $370 was the product they had in stock. The sales person who helped me said they should just swap it out. When I got to the register, the person there said the same thing. I never asked for it to be a straight up exchange, but now thought that it was fair. I know it's not their fault the product they sold didn't work, and I didn't expect them to do anymore than exchange what I had. That said, the guy who was checking me out asked a manager for help. She came over and said "we don't need to do anything on the price because we are selling them regardless if you buy or not." Basically we don't need your business. Than she said go ask another manager, but I don't see any reason to do it. Two more managers came by and were fairly rude to me, and said we don't need to give you anything, you can either pay the difference or wait until we can order you the same thing you have. Unfortunately, I do not have time to wait, and actually needed this product or a similar one. I paid $40 difference, as it's not a big deal, but how they treated me, I would never go back there. I sent a quick note to the customer service on their website, and the reply, although I know it was a mistake said "they should be rude to you." Learn to spell check. There are enough places out there that want your business and believe that the customer matters. Obviously Micro Center has proven to me that it's just about an exchange. A previous experience with the service center was good, and I got my old macbook pro restored after an incident with an expanded battery. I was able to get specific parts restored, while foregoing replacing the touchpad for cost reasons. Everything was done as expected, and quickly! I returned with a Lenovo dreampad that had fallen a foot from the ground in a backpack resulting in the glass of the touchscreen being shattered in the top left corner, making the touchpad functionality (the reason I bought the laptop) totally useless. Apparently, the glass cannot be replaced by itself and the whole monitor has to be replaced, which would cost more than brand new laptop itself. This pisses me off more than anything, but this is obviously lenovo's problem, not micro center's. I was still very disappointed to hear about this upon picking up my laptop and kinda just wanted to leave and do homework on my now super lame laptop, however the cord I had been handed was not the original cord. I know it's probably not a huge deal and my laptop might just charge a little slower, but I know what the original cord looks like. This is absolutely ridiculous because I had shown up with my "Lenovo 45W Round Tip Adapter", I had used it previously, I knew other people with the same charger, and he's going to kneel there and stare at me and say "it does not exist" as if I've been hallucinating for three months. Anyway they probably gave it to someone else and didn't want to own up to it so that's cool and whatever but I'm down $15 in charger value and I'm pissed at the gall of this guy who thought he could charger-gaslight me so I got up and walked away with the less expensive "Lenovo 45W AC Wall Adapter (UL)", along with my touchless touchpad/laptop. It was just not great I would not recommend the lenovo dreampad or micro center's service center after this. I spent 4 hours selecting a new laptop and three tablets and spent over $3k. Anil was a fantastic and attentive salesperson. I left my old laptop for the data transfer and wasn't contacted for 2 days. I called and spoke to Charles in tech support or lack thereof. He explained that he had tried to transfer my data but couldn't due to some strange program that I had on my computer. He was rude condescending and dismissive. He was not at all understanding that I needed the computer for my livelihood and stated wished he had called me. He said that he didn't want to wipe my hard drive. (Gee thanks) The ridiculously unhelpful store manager Jiri also showed no respect for me as a customer. The only person who showed any degree of respect was a young woman, Casey. (Boys club maybe?) Therefore I decided to return all the items and checked Yelp for higher rated company since post sale is when service actually matters. Now, I just received a call that they can't figure out how to do a refund because I didn't have my Micro center credit card yet. (I got a discount for signing up.) It seems to me that having a good understanding of computers might help with that. Go figure read more

The prices and deals can be awesome - I'll drive out here from DC for them. The less than awesome aspect of Micro Center is that the commission-based employees will practically assault you to make a sale. I literally had at least 8 employees come up to me on my most recent visit to try to get me to buy something or show me something I didn't want or need. Try to work on the way you handle customers who don't want to be bothered by salespeople - coming here makes me feel somewhat uncomfortable, even if the deals are great. read more

I know there are always good reviews, and bad ones, but this I swear is as bad as bad can get. The place is yes like a candy store. But wait! What do you get from eating candy.....cavities. I had them build a custom pc for me.....warranty ran out. I wanted to buy a warranty they wouldn't accept. The people there after the sale are nasty. Just at the right time the pc started having problems, rebooting (using my old pc now). So I went back, long lines, $60 for a tech to look at it, parts replaced them all.....What happens when it does it happens after a half an hour.........even more frequently. So on top of my "dream machine:" Tech time 3 visits:$120.00 Motherbrd, Power Supply, Microsoft sw re-install Original Cost all components: $1,080 Do the math makes me wince: $2,000! Dropped in to buy a couple of minor things ($10 or so) after work. Wanted to pay cash, but they wanted my name first ("the register drawer won't open without a name.") The manager confirmed the policy. I left without my stuff. They lost a trivial sale this time -- and made it less likely I'll buy there again or recommend them. They do have a variety of selections that you can't find at other electronics chains and good discounts as well. Where to start? I used to buy everything from there. To me it was like being a kid to a candy store. Let me tell you how this kid stopped driving the 45 mins it took to get there. 1. Once the sale is made, you're on your own at the mercy of their Tech Dept. When they call and tell you the pc is fixed, it isn't and expect to wait at least 4 more hours. 2. If you try to make a return, they are nasty, and not Cust Service friendly. The Manager is a creep. There are long lines for Tech Service / and Purchasing. 3. Their Manager got rid of the guy who evaluated my pc, because he fixed it on the spot. It's supposed to be a two step process: a. Evaluation b. Refer it to Technical so they can make it rocket ship science. Conclusion: These days you can't be strictly in pcs you need diversity. It's not going to happen today, not tomorrow but think eventually the place, at least the one in Fairfax is going to close, and eventually all of them will joining CompUSA and NewEgg,com(they price match with NewEgg) online. It's small, but I l like the Geek Squad guys at the Best Buy in Reston. I bought my Ipad from there. read more

I think religion and spirituality is very important. I don't necessarily think that this information should be garnered by 12 year olds from a video game clerk. I don't think it is reasonable for a customer not to be able to find someone to help them shop and make purchases because a representative is too busy talking about stuff not work related. I mentioned this to a supervisor who said he agreed with me. He didn't do anything about it. He lied to me and said that he did when I sat there and watched nothing change (as in, there still was no one available to answer questions about the aspects of the products they sell). The lack of professionalism is pathetic. They lost a $200 purchase from me because they couldn't take the time out of their busy schedules to do their job. In general, I like their selection of computer supplies and electronics. In the past, this has been enough for me to continue to shop there and hope I can figure things out on my own and not have to talk to anyone that works here. But I've had enough. As a result, I will give them a 2-star rating in all fairness. I mean really, were in the year 2013 and part of customer service engagement is answering incoming phone calls from potential consumers. This store? Fails to do that for every time I hear the phone systems answering machine, the phone connection ENDS!! Like in all honesty, that says several things to a consumer and/or potential buyer (A) - The Management Department doesn't care to hire more reps in order to service consumer phone inquiries (B) - The sales floor doesn't value the importance of phone inquiries (C) - The establishment can't be taken seriously from outsiders who just moved to the area. Drives, motherboards ram etc. brand new right? not no much i am hearing and i am finding that the products you pay top dollar for are most likely used. Issue with MicroCenter online retailer. Don't use their online order system. Ordered a item from the online web store. Cancelled the order within a few hours of the order placement. Removed the item from my order history and sent an contact notification using the MicroCenter browser tool on the Customer Service page. I drove several hours and picked up the item at a MicroCenter store. A few days later I saw the pending charge to my credit card. It was for the online order. Sent another contact notification telling the online web store to cancel the pending charge and cancel the order. I was told it was cancelled. Three days later MicroCenter shipped the item from the online order. I sent another contact notification asking what the hell are they doing sending the item. I've asked mulitiple times for the order to be cancelled. I get an apology and a FEDEX return label. I return the item the same day it is delivered. Dropped it off at Walgreens. Never opened the shipment box. FEDEX shows it delivered the next day. Five days later I'm still waiting for my refund of $276. Don't use this company. Completely incompetent employees! read more

Brought Mac desktop in to have 4 GB of memory upgraded to 8 GB. Called ahead to make sure they could do it. Stood in line forever to drop it off. There were at least 10 people in line and two people working the drop-off counter. For 10-15 minutes, we stood there and no one said one word to us such as "we'll be right with you." Finally I asked them if they could possibly get someone else to help the rest of us, like ask a manager or something. They brought out three people to intake us. I do not understand why someone wasn't watching for a huge line. The next day I came to pick it up and the same thing happened with the line! Again, I waited and asked them to bring out more help. Again, they did. Finally, they didn't have 4 GB of memory to add to my 4 GB so they charged me for 8 GB. I made them refund me the difference. read more

He's like it's the same but there are completely different and would get better frames in anything. And now I just got a different computer because I can't do anything with the mother board. Yesterday I had the most unpleasant retail experience I've had in years when I went to this Micro Center to buy a package of computer labels. The label section was a mess, but miraculously I found the ones I was looking for. Checkout line was slow. When I finally get to the cashier, I hand him the labels and a $20 bill. He asks for my name. I can see from the screen on his terminal that he wants my name, telephone number and email address. I tell him - politely - that I don't give out my personal information. He freaks out and tells me I "have to" provide it. I stand there refusing to give out my information, while the line gets longer and the cashier gets more desperate, begging me to "help him out" because the manager demands that they collect this info. Finally, I say that I don't want the labels enough to provide the information if it is, in fact, "required" and magically, he manages to ring up my purchase without it. So, that's my last Micro Center purchase - ever. Labels are cheaper on Amazon anyhow. I can understand requesting (not demanding) contact information for very large purchases or custom items, but for a $12.99 cash purchase of a pack of labels? Insane. Many retailers ask for phone numbers, but invariably when I say, "I don't give it out" the cashiers says "ok" and carries on. Never the drama like at Micro Center yesterday. They have a pretty good selection but their return policy sucks. It only a max of 30 days and on some items it's only 15 days. I try to return a mini drone that was a Xmas gift for my son and they would not even give me store credit. Item was new and in the box and I had me receipt. The manger would not even talk with me. I would pick Best Buy, Costco, Amazon or any other place over Micro Center. They all have better return policies and will work with you. read more

I drove to the fairfax location from Woodbridge because I had a great customer service experience here years ago...tonight made me regret the drive. The good thing about this store is how massive it is, whatever you're looking for, they probably have it. The bad thing about this store is how massive it is, it's got that cold impersonal feel. People who knew what they were looking for were laughing and talking tech with the salespeople while I wandered around wide eyed looking for help. In the service department I was told to stand in line, then when I got to the front of it I was told to go stand in another line. When I got in line originally there were only three people and i stood out because i was literally carrying my computer in a pack on my back. You know I was here before all these people and you want me to start over behind a bunch of people I watched form that line? No thanks. I suppose this review isn't about the quality of the products they sell as much as it is about how I felt leaving the store...like no one cared to assist me at all. They won't miss my money when I take my hardware somewhere else, they're too big to notice - but I won't miss being shrugged off and ignored and I certainly won't miss the drive. read more

Just on customer phone support, this store deserves a bunch of minuses. The automated response gives a service number to call and when you do, you are on hold for several minutes and then hung up on. "Helping other customers" is the response. Sure, they are. I went back to the main number and was on hold more than 20 mins. "Please continue to hold. Operators are busy. Your call will be answered in the order it was received." Uh-huh. The store is now closed. I'm sure someone is going to pick up after hours. i went to microcenter at pan am shopping center to find a laptop to replace my home desktop. it was a crowded saturday, but a salesman (Bhaskar Kanal) introduced himself to me about 5 minutes after i started browsing laptops. he listened to my needs and walked me toward several laptops that were appropriate for what i wanted. he patiently explained the pros and cons of each, how to use a USB docking bay to enhance the experience when i was working from my desk, and suggested a machine that was not the highest priced one. he didn't try to up-sell me on additional items; instead, he let me conclude what i needed and then gave me options and prices. i left the machine to have microcenter do the upgrades overnight. he said it would be available by afternoon the following day, which it was. a very good experience - i checked reviews of the machine/configuration i bought and talked to several friends who are way more educated than i am about computers, and all agreed i bought a solid, powerful machine at a reasonable price. microcenter is now my new favorite place to purchase computer equipment. read more

Love the store and products they have, prices are comparable to online and they do have some helpful folks walking around. Service group has lots of room for improvement. The process starts with requiring folks to pick a number. My number was 295 and the now serving sign shows 265. I am thinking I am going to be here awhile. After 20 minutes they ask who is next. So don't bother with getting a number. I provide them a printout of an apple warranty extension along with my case number from a couple of support calls with Apple. They then spent 10 minutes trying to find my account and apparently can only look you up by name and zip. Finally give up and have to type in all the information from the piece of paper I just handed them. They would be better served with some kiosks and letting people input their own information. I then spent the next 15 minutes confirming everything I wrote down while it was being typed in. After 30 hours I get a call informing me the motherboard is bad, which I knew hence the apple support id and warranty extension printout. They then inform me they need another day to run the apple required tests as they weren't aware of the apple case number and warranty extension. I thought this was an apple certified center, I foolishly asked what they did to test the computer over the past 30 hours. Uh, apple requires different tests?? Baffled, I am now driving down to pick it up as they will probably drool on the new motherboard and write over my hard drive. Oh yeah, to top it all off it will take another 5-7 days to get the parts, who knows how log till the computer is repaired. Should have taken it to Apple Store, had them mail it to the service depot and got it back in 5 days. Lesson learned. read more

This stores concept is fantastic (for the PC geek, tech nerd, gadget fan), but it's selling practices, customer service quality and post purchase policies absolutely ruin Micro Center. I purchased a $1000 Asus laptop / notebook and ran into numerous software conflict issues between the Asus UI overlay and Windows 7. Hardware-wise this item functioned properly, software wise it created an unstable system right out of the box. As per Micro Centers return policy, ANY PURCHASE that isnt exchanged for the very same item will incur a 15 percent "open box" fee (even if the item is never actually 'opened'). So in my case, because I wont exchange a software defective device for the same software defective device, I have to eat $150 ! I sought a clarification of the store return policy (my prior knowledge was only based on an interweb search), so I placed a call to the in store customer service department. Long story short, a verbal confrontation was required in order to get the two representatives to quote standard return practices. Initially, they basically stated that I'd have to come in and see how things were handled. The trek for my exchange was going to be 60+ miles, and my knowledge of this stores return policy was limited to a dated internet declaration. I was simply seeking a solid statement of the in store return policy regarding my situation (...not a decision for my case, just a statement of the store policy). I only got what I sought after asking for 'beyond store level' contact information (District Mgr / Zone VP), because of their adverarial attitude and refusal to quote policy. Okay, I'm changing my review from a 1 star to a 5 star. Back in November, my 13 year old son purchased components to build his own gaming computer. The sales people were extremely helpful. However, after the computer was built certain games would freeze. We tried working with the store to trouble shoot the problem ourselves, because we thought maybe we did something wrong. But, after 3 months the games were still freezing. We brought the computer in for the tech people to look at it, and it turned out that the graphics card was defective. There was some confusion with our tech person about warranties and repairs, which cause me much frustration and aggravation. However, Jiri Strakos, the Manager of the Tech Dept. made the situation right. In fact, I think he is probably one of the best customer service person I have ever dealt with. I felt his concern and sincerity about our situation and now the computer is finally working properly and my son is very happy. You know, I love Micro Center. It's nice to have computer and tech store that you can go to and talk to real people about issues and concerns. Not like an Apple or Microsoft store in which the people have narrow and limited experience. I really want Micro Center to be successful and stay around for a long time.
