The problem I had with my visit and purchase relates to quality control at Micro Center. The salesman was helpful, but recommended a product that didn't work. He recommended a computer that was returned (he called it an "open box") and reassured me multiple times that it was "as good as new". He made sure to state that it had been tested by the technicians at the service desk and was guaranteed to work. He offered a good discount because it had been opened, but stated several times that it was in complete working order and there was nothing wrong with the computer. So I bought it, a wireless mouse, an after-market anti-virus program (recommended by the same salesman), and an Office 365 yearly subscription. I took it home and started it up. I tried for 90 minutes to connect to my wireless router and get on the internet, but the computer didn't recognize my wireless network, or any other networks in the area. I took it back to the store and had the service desk look at it. The service tech couldn't get it to recognize any wireless networks in the store, so he took it back to his work area and worked on it for 5-10 minutes. He eventually tells me that he can't get the computer to recognize the installed wireless card regardless of what he does. Apparently this is why it was brought back to the store the first time but no one noted the problem, or told the salesman, or marked it as not to be sold to another customer (i.e. me). The return process went pretty smoothly and I went back to the laptop area to see if I could get another one, but the salesman that sold me the non-functioning laptop had left for the day. I found the manager that had been on the floor at the time I bought the original laptop and explained what had happened. He got another salesman to try to find a replacement, but there were none in the store and the salesman told me that he wouldn't be able to get a replacement at all. I left the store very disappointed that my time (half a day) had been wasted, I still don't have the computer that I need, and that the entire quality control process had missed such a glaring malfunction on one of their returned products. While all the staff seemed to be well-meaning, I won't be returning as a customer due to the lack of trust I now have in the products they sell. read more

I was referred to Micro Center through Apple who said they would replace my hard drive for a cheaper price. My experience with the worker at the repair counter was very frustrating. I told him to make sure that no work was done on my laptop until I confirmed with the Apple store once again that this was exactly what needed to be fixed. He asked me if he should "write it up." Um, sure? I don't work there so how am I supposed to know what "writing it up" entails. I simply reiterated I wanted no work completed on my laptop until I called them later than evening after contacting Apple. He also told me I would need to go into Apple to get the operating system reinstated. Of course, later that evening, I get a call from the technician saying all of the work I requested was completed. *sigh* Exactly what I told the desk clerk to make sure didn't happen. Whatever, would've had to pay for it anyways, picked it up and took it to Apple to get the operating system reinstated, to go home and find out none of my backed-up pictures/music/documents were on there. I am not very tech-savvy so I didn't realize by doing this it would wipe out all of the backed-up data the technician had put on there. I was simply following the desk clerk's directions. Called them today to find out the operating system they told me I would have to go into the Apple store for was already programmed in the store, and this was why none of my backed-up data was on there. The only plus was the hard drive replacement was cheaper and my laptop is now working fine, but I will have to drive back up there to get a complementary back up from my old hard drive. Kind of a waste of gas for faulty advice from an employee. read more

Micro Center needs to work on their customer service. Dropped off my daughters laptop to have it checked out. Two weeks later still had no idea what was wrong with it. While waiting to pick it up everyone in line was frustrated with Micro Center. After finally getting her laptop back and still not working, went out to the parking lot and car next to us had been broken into. Seems Micro Center didn't care about that either. Customers outside couldn't believe no one was coming out to help the individual with the damaged car. Won't be returning to Micro Center again!!!! read more

My advice is to avoid this company like the plague. They sold me a $2,700 Power Spec gaming desktop that could not even work for one week. I bought it last Sunday. It would not run today (Sunday one week later). Took it in and they said it was water cooling system problem causing the GPU to overheat despite it being only one week in light use. I was open to them swapping it out but them they told me that I could not put the purchase onto my new Micro Center card for the 12 month financing despite the fact that the sales person assured me that I could last week. I told them to keep their piece of crap machine and refund it and that I would bring the monitor back in a few days because I want nothing to do with a company with such low integrity and lies to their customers. They really did not care. They lost a customer forever because of their poor quality equipment and their lies and lack of integrity. Avoid them like the plague. read more

I've come here with my husband a couple times, and they always have what he's looking for. We went with some friends today to buy a monitor and poke around. My husband found a great monitor at a good price; perfect! The salesman helping us made sexist jokes; not perfect! The same monitor on Amazon was a whole lot more expensive or else I would have said forget it and had my husband order it online. I'm sure we'll be back at some point due to my husband but I would never come here alone; if they're willing to make asinine jokes when you're there with a guy, who knows what they would say to you if you were alone! read more

The worst experience ever. Was in town and decided to purchase a cover for my new iPad... After the young kid in the Apple section showed me the selection of available case, he felt compelled to stand within arms distance and reorganize each and every case I touched. It's very sad that anither customer showed me some of the benefits to various cases. Next, I asked an associate where to find the DSLR accessories and he was clueless. Showed me a go pro and a point and shoot! WTF? Lastly, while waiting to check out, I decided to picked up a 4-pack of batteries... When the cadhier rung up my purchase, the price was different than what was listed on the advertisement. She called the manager for an override... Where we waited and waited... And waited. Finally a manager named Kitty comes over, offers no apology for the inconvenience, no sorry for taking so long, no empathy whatsoever! Good place to pick up ram locally. Also love their advertisements for hard drives as they price match Amazon. They do have an Apple section but it is tucked into the back of the place with crappy lighting. While this is a direct competitor to Fry's, it is cleaner but the checkout process is worse off, takes way too long to actually buy something. read more

You have to be a novice at computers to really accept this place as it is. Yes sales people will always approach you and put their sticker on the items you are buying, but you have to realize how low their hourly wage is. Very knowledgeable salespeople in most departments, and nice management (though they don't always speed things up.) I have pretty much even helped other fellow customers, and the sales people don't mind unlike other stores. I always run into great deals, even beating Newegg at times! I will go here 9/10 times if I have to choose over Frys. read more

I was debating if I should of had came here or not before deciding to buy my gaming computer online (cyberpower) . Boy! They provided everything I needed from excellent customer service and beyond. I was greeted by a nice gentleman named Alex Berry who asisted my custom computer build from the bottom up. Not only did he provide knowledgeable information to someone who only new the basic, but also provided me with his personal email in case I ran into some issues during my build. Which I did and was able to get the computer running due to his help. I had never had such friendly service before. I'm very pleased and satisfied with my purchase. In case your wondering. They also help you choose the best parts for your budget range. I tried them because Frys is just not the same old place anymore. Having to put up with a bunch of salesmen with funny accents, body odor and bad breath was just getting old. So, the staff at Micro Center was extremely knowledgable and friendly and that is the reason for the one star. As far as the products and service after the sale....forget it. Just about every piece of equipment that I have purchased from them has needed repair or replacement shortly after use. Most recently, a brand new out the box desktop that I spent $600.00 for stopped working. On my way to Micro Center, I stopped by the Geek Squad desk at Best Buy to see what they could tell me. They immediately hooked up the unit and diagnosed the motherboard being out.. They ran a few more tests just to make sure and then assured me it was the motherboard,. I told them that it was new from Micro Center so they suggested that I take it back to them to see what they can do for me. I asked them what I owed them for thier time and they said "Don't worry about it, no charge, just let us know if you need our help". So off to Micro Center I go, first I stood in the service line for about 20 minutes, then when I told the tech that the PC stopped working, he recited the same phrase that I had heard 10 times already from the customers in front of me, "It is $75.00 just for us to look at it and diagnose the problem and then any additional repairs are extra". What took 5 minutes and no charge at Best Buy just cost me $75.00 and I had to leave it there for them to get to when they could. 3 days later, I get a call from them telling me that the motherboard had gone out......no.....really??!!?? When I asked if the PC was still under warranty for repair they informed me that it had expired 1 week ago. How convenient. So, I end up paying the $75.00 for the diagnose and another $150.00 for repairs that took another 5 days. Get the PC home and shocker, it does not work worth a crap....blue screens....shut downs...constant restarts etc. and then yesterda, it just completely shut down. Not wanting to pay another $75.00 and put up with thier crappy service after the sale anymore I decided to head back to Best Buy. I told them my story and they quickly let me know that you cannot replace the motherboard like that and expect it to work, Windows will not be able to handle the change. So, frustrated and over $700.00 into a PC that lasted a YEAR.....I purchased a new Dell at Best Buy and could not have been any happier with the purchase. Great service, great product and I already know that they are experts at the repair process if I need it. Overall, its a get what you pay for world.....if you want something really cheap at first but suffer the consequences later....go to Micro Center. read more

I think Micro Center has great prices, and for the most part a great staff. But don't bother if you're in a hurry to purchase something and get back to work. I waited a long time for help to buy an iPad, but instead of saying "may I help the next person", a guy who just walked in was helped. The other rep was going on and on AND ON to another customer about buying a service plan. A guy who had been waiting before me walked out, and then I did too. If you buy a laptop from these guys, make sure you check all the pre-loaded programs before you take it home. I bought a NEW HP laptop in Aug, 2009, with VISTA OS. It also had the MS Office, but was the 2003 version! But no one bothered to tell me that at the time, or that MS had already put out two upgrades by that time. Had I known in Aug, 2009, that the laptop had old software installed, I would never have bought it. So, make 'em prove the software is current before you walk out the door. And don't expect anything resembling customer service from either management or the sales staff. They couldn't care less. read more

Bought a refurbished monitor on Saturday. On Sunday we unpacked it to realize we had no power cord and no manual. I called 3 times that day and 4 times on Monday. The calls are routed to an actual call center and not the store itself. Each time I was told I would get a call back and I never did. I called again this morning on my break and I was told they will not transfer my call to that location. I was told before being placed on hold and eventually disconnected that I may have to bring the whole thing back. If I do it will be to return it. Deal or not I refuse to have lousy customer service when there are plenty of other places I can get my needs met AND be able to speak with the store directly. My suggestion if you have to buy here for a deal is to open the box and make sure all pieces are there. It sucks but apparently it's necessary to make sure you don't get screwed. read more

I really wish I could return to Micro Center, because it's the only place in town to get computer components. But after my last experience when trying to buy over $2000 in computer components, they refused to honor their stated price on 2 SSD's (citing a 1 per household limit). However they do price match, and Amazon had the same item for the exact price with no limit. They refused to make a small exception for a customer spending thousands of dollars, so I walked out and will not return. The extra 1 day of waiting for Amazon Prime is worth the much better customer service they provide. read more

One of the very few places that we were able to get a GTX 1080 when it came out. Nice service, everything worked out.

They can get very busy and the long lines do get annoying. But their prices are comparable to online sites. Their staff is knowledgeable, Albeit a bit pushy since they're all on commission. You can find all you need to build a pc, repair a drone, build a raspberry pi project, etc. if only it were more organized, sometimes items could be in random places, like small repair tools are literally in maybe 4 different aisles, but the one you're looking for is up near the front counter. Very odd layout, but for the most part, it's all there. Their new online pickup is pretty fast, if the item is available. Overall a B grade. read more

We've bought three store brand computers from Micro Center, plus an assortment of peripherals. The sales people were helpful and friendly, and yes they sometimes do have a lot of customers to try and keep happy at the same time. The prices have been fair, and the products work fine. If you have a problem after the sale, just trot the computer back over there and they will try to fix it free. If they can't fix it free, the paid service department will repair it within a reasonable time. And, the store smells better than Fry's. read more

I like this place all right. The guys in the mac department know what they are talking about but will drive you nuts with the warranty talk. I was buying my brother a computer and had a very specific amount that I told the guy that I would spend and if he wanted the warranty he could buy it himself. This guy literally would not shut up about it. He said warranty at least 400 times. He was a real squirly looking guy. Kinda reminded me of Milton from Office Space. I finally had to tell the guy to just give it a rest but he managed to throw it out there one more time out of spite. I get it, you get bonuses related to warranty plans. I just went here for the first time. The Power Book G4 I bought in 2004 was purchased from the mac store. This time around, I thought I'd save $200 and still get a new sealed in the box MacBook Pro. I'm so happy I did! I felt like the salesperson was just right - he helped and answered questions but wasn't too pushy. He was patient when I was deciding between 2 MacBooks. I like Microcenter's small feel compared to other humongous stores. They have better prices on accessories and macs than Frye's, and the salesmen act more calm, less harried. I do agree with other reviews - you need to know what you want before you go in, but that's not hard to do if you take time to research. read more

Good Sales guys, but not so cooperative at service department. Had very bitter experience in getting my Desktop's new motherboard's issues diagnosed. And what bothered me more than their wait time was their comment to the time they say they can finish the commented work. They did not stick to the time they said they will deliver the work until I called any followed up. I'm in here at least once a month. Shout out to their ever expanding hobby electronics section. "Maker shit" This is the best electronics store in town. Blows away Best Buy, and more organized, better selection and better staff than Fry's. My only issue is that they used to match online prices no questions asked, but recently I've been unclear as to their policy. The other thing is that their sales staff is commission based and that can be a little awkward but if I pick somethinng off the shelf I always try to go find some guy to slap his sticker on it. The process of dropping off and picking up items for repair is inefficient. The staff have trouble finding the device that was left for repair. today it took 20 minutes for the clerk to find my computer due to their process of finding the paperwork and also finding the information in their computer system. It must be frustrating for the clerk to deal with such an inefficient system and to hear the complaining of all the people in line. This is a system problem that needs to be fixed. I will not use this business in the future. read more

Went in with a list of parts expecting to pay $2600 but was able to get some extra upgrades like a gigabyte x99 5p and a blue ray reader and still came out $200 under budget. The service was fast and very informative, and they had every single thing I wanted and more. I will say there was some product pushing but I didn't feel intimidated. Ryan Ortega was a tremendous help and was able to find all the parts I wanted and pointed out a few bottle necks in my build and was knowledgable about everything I asked about. Even though it's a 1 1/2+ hour drive for me, I look to continue doing business with micro center in the future. read more

Dear Smart Customers, Im going to be brutally honest...if you want to get screwed so bad then go here! I bought a brand new laptop (so I don't have to worry about it being used and possibly defective) and Microcenter gives 14-days until you can return. On the 13th day, THE CHARGER STOPPED WORKING. Now this is not the issue. I originally bought a screen protector because I thought I was going to use it for at least 5 years, but turns out only 13 days...and Microcenter refused to refund the $10 protector because I bought it from Amazon. IF I DIDNT BUY YOUR STUPID DEFECTIVE LAPTOP I WOULD NOT HAVE WASTED $10, if the laptop stopped working on the 15th day, I would have lost $1000 so might as well look at the bright side. Microcenter, you have lost a customer. ***I gave 2 stars because of the short (no one) in line. Or maybe the customers are just smarter than me and already know microcenter sucks.... ***Buy your laptops from Amazon, they will give you over 30 days to test it and RETURN ANYTHING IF YOU ARE DISSATISFIED!!!! I've bought my last 4 computers from Micro Center. But, not as a knee-jerk reflex. I am a pretty conscientious shopper and am thorough at my due diligence. Micro Center is a really nice resource in the North Dallas area. Great selection, tons of parts and accessories, software, you name it. Great prices and excellent help. Yesterday, I broke the screen on my laptop. I looked on Amazon, ebay, etc. Then, I decided to see about Micro Center. Sure enough, they had three in stock for my computer. Two were open box. I took my cracked screen out, and took it to Micro Center and got a special 'Open Box' price. I replaced a 17.3" led laptop screen for under $60 after taxes. That's a bargain! read more

I go here for microcontroller boards, usually. If you need a microcontroller, they offer many at cheaper prices than you will find anywhere else. The computers are priced fairly too! The biggest problem I have with their computers is that the service plans are weaker as compared to Sams or Costco for about the same price. read more

shittiest place i ever went to !! the employees were rude & didn't even help at all . they told my brother that an item was only $20 but at the cash register it was suddenly $30 !! then , as they were making it they told us they would call us over when they finish , this happened twice & the second time he started YELLING at us saying that we should have told the other guy that he finished 10 MINUTES AGO but , he was the one who told us he would tell us when he finished which was absolutely absurd . the whole place was unwelcoming & we got charged so much more than what was told to us . never coming back again & telling others that this is not a place to go . read more
