Interesting place Mickle's. VERY high energy ownership with exceptional quality Gumbo, red beans and rice and fried catfish and still, in this current economy, fairly modest prices. The Cajun Kitchen has been here in the Red Bird area of Oak Cliff for 10 years and this was our first visit. Only open M - F from 11 - 5:30p, this is a busy place. Nearly everything is cooked to order. The Gumbo was terrific. I like mine with okra and peppers and onion that I can SEE and it didn't have that, but their smooth spicy dark roux was delicious. I counted 6 large perfectly cooked shrimp in my pint of Gumbo with some diced chicken and sliced sausage and little bits of ham. I also like garlic bread. But honestly, it's hard to be too picky with something this good! Pint - $10.99 Next time, I'll just get it to go and do what I want to it at home. Lol. We also had the posted special - the Catfish Special for $10.99 The Catfish is some of the best that I've had in awhile! The cornmeal is seasoned to perfection, then the fish is fried to perfection and gently cradled on a slice of wheat bread. Um hm. Wheat bread. OMG. Two perfect pieces were served with some AWESOME red beans and rice. I just wasn't feeling fries and a substitution was made for the most glorious red beans and rice! So very good. A can of soda or bottle of water is included. Whole pickled jalapeños are available for 59 cents each. Yes! Have to have some of those, too. I stuffed myself and then took the rest home. As did my husband. For whatever the dining room may have lacked in ambiance, it more than made up in a good time. The A/C was good, the tables were comfortable and the service was friendly, kind and helpful. There's plenty of parking. They have to go and pick up spaces for food out front. BTW There's both baked and fried fish and chicken which sounds amazing. I hope to try both! read more

It was ok. It is dark inside. But I love the sit in your car and order and they bring it out to you.

Great food! Born and raised in SW Louisiana where theirs still good traditional Creole/Cajun food that hasn't been "influenced" by other countries and this is pretty close. The boudin tastes good (can taste the green onion) and the gumbo is about good 7 on my scale of a 1-10. Pappadeaux gumbo is about a 4, (or a 5 on a good day) if you want to measure it to my standards. Will geaux again! The chicken wings were just ok IMO but still a 5 overall because they do so good on other foods. read more

Came here and got fries and bone in chicken mixed, it was like $24 which I thought was a lot. It was ready in about 15 minutes and the guys were cool. I got it to go but there's plenty of room to eat there. I liked the fries but the chicken was good just okay. I doubt I'd go back. read more

good service and great seasoning food. place maybe small on the inside but the food has big flavor!

I wanted some gumbo so I yelped to see what was close to me, and Muckle Cajun Kitchen came up. The cup of gumbo was too small for $6.99 and the pint was big enough (especially if it was good) for $9.99. The tast was good. It wasn't too spicy or oily. It came with 6 shrimps (small came with 3 shrimps), sausage (which is tasty)and shredded chicken with 4 crackers. The place wasn't crowed but enough seating for a very small group. I would recommend. read more

Have to admit, the place doesn't look like much walking in but WOW! Glad we stayed, the FOOD WAS AWESOME! Have the Gumbo, seriously, have the Gumbo! Also had the shrimp platter, it was fantastic, big plump shrimp perfectly cooked and battered! Will definitely come back next time in the area... Have the Gumbo, seriously, have the Gumbo! read more

I ended up at Mickles mainly because of their reviews plus they were about 5-10 mins from where I was located. It was a little hard to find in the shopping center but it's right in the corner next to a dance school. Upon entering you immediately got an I'm at home feeling. I was greeted and given plenty of time to figure out what to order. I really wanted to try the gumbo everyone was raving about but my tastebuds said otherwise. When I ordered the owner stated all food was made to order & was that okay. I stated yes & the wait wasn't too bad, just don't be in a rush. Food: 2 piece dark with fries & a small side of red beans & rice -- $9.07; let me tell you, those red beans spoke to my soul ! Their a must try. The chicken was just as delicious with a nice crunch. I was starving but ended up still taking some home. Drink: Lemon Sweet Tea -- $2.15; I was hesitant about getting something to drink but I ended up getting the tea which was just right. Maybe a little too sweet for my taste buds but still better than any other place. Ultimately, I will definitely be back if I'm in the area. The owner was very personable & respectful. read more

Going to post a review because the food is fire! More people definitely need to attend. It is my favorite boudin in all of DFW. They are also fresh and made to order. I also ordered the gumbo and crawfish etoufee. Gumbo was full of shrimp and sausage and flavor was great. The crawfish etoufee was creamy, delicious and also filled with crawfish. This is my 3rd time visiting and the food has been amazing every time. It is definitely a hole-in-the wall shop, so be sure to spread the word. This spot deserves recognition. read more

Gumbo is straight GAS!!! Boudin is pretty darn tasty itself. Boudin is cooked to perfection just wish it had the same kick as that gumbo. Definitely going back for both regularly. Hands down the best gumbo I've had in dallas and it's up there with some of the best I've had in Louisiana too. read more

I visit this homey spot around 3/4 a year when I'm craving gumbo and can't make my own. It consistently hits the spot and reminds me of the jumbo gumbo fundraisers I had at my church growing up. Glad to see this business has remained open post Covid. Pure authentic Cajun food without all the frills. Comfort food that hits the spot. One star dinged bc surprisingly I am not a huge fan of the etoufee and boudin, but more to do with personal preference. That's the beautiful thing about this kind of food, everyone has their own way of doing it. read more

My all time favorite catfish spot by far. The catfish comes with a garlic stick, fries, and hush puppies. So flavorful and perfectly fried. Could improve on sauces, they only had packaged tarter sauce and ketchup. Definitely felt very welcomed when I came in, the restaurant had no wait. read more

Mickle Cajun Kitchen - Shrimp Louisiana Gumbo - Cajun/Creole Near Me - Dallas, Texas

I'm not really a fan. This my 3rd time giving them a try. The first time the gumbo was a hit. I didn't try anything else besides that. This 2nd & 3rd time, I tried the gumbo and catfish. The catfish both times was not seasoned and did not have any flavor or taste to it. The gumbo the shrimp tastes weird like it's not cleaned entirely. It was not juicy at all this time a lot of rice at the bottom. And it was a lil spicy but it's just something that's missing. I tried to give it a chance. But I'm going to say no. Especially for the price I paid. read more

Dam I hate to give y'all 3 Stars Espescially in this Climate of What's going on in the World and With the BLM Movement and since I'm In love with your Gumbo BUT I decided to order on UBER EATS this time and DEFINITELY was not pleased with the food. First they had Tamper Evident Stickers on the bags that were Just thrown on there but not even closed up. You can tell they didn't even try to place it where the bag would stay closed. Secondly, my Gumbo Sampler plate had the Etouffee running in with the Beans that were jus not good. The Old Dry piece of Chicken thay probably had Sat up for hours was wayyy too Overly Seasoned. High Blood Pressure type shit. Now... The Turkey leg... I'm not sure about everyone else, but when u hear the words Turkey & Legs I expect a Nice Size Smoked Turkey Leg but it was a Boiled or cooked in an Oven(Not Sure, the Skin looked like when u Boil Something). I ucan't complain too much because it was 5 dollars but I simply wasn't feeling it. It was Spicy which I'm not used to in a Turkey Leg even if it is a Cajun Restaurant. But what's the point of the Foil if it's not even smoked. Or are y'all boiling them then putting it in a smoker. Either way something is missing. At the End of all of this, I must say I STILL LOVE YOUR GUMBO!!! Edit Update: A Few Hours later... Since I got the Gumbo Sampler, I figured I'd eat all the other stuff and Save the Gumbo that I Love for Later. Well, that Gumbo I Love So Much had 1 FUCKING SHRIMP in the WHOLE ENTIRE CUP... So for that I came back to take my 3 Stars down to 1... DO BETTER BLACK PEOPLE read more

Pretty good food... The service is a bit slow but if you can be patient it's worth the wait. Haven't had good authentic Louisiana cuisine since I been in Texas, altough sooo many restaurants claim to have our food headlining their establishments and when we taste it, it be a complete let down!! Now mind you this place is not fancy or upscale or even in a great location....my advice go in broad daylight or order ahead to go. Dishes I've had down below... Gumbo Etoufee Red Beans Fried chicken read more

This 8s an Asian Cajun place. Not a real Louisiana Cajun place I wouldn't go back. Asian seafood is different from Gulf seafood.

After driving by this place for about a year I finna got to try their food. I ordered 3 whole wings with fries and 3 boudins. It was good. The chicken wings could have used more seasoning since it is a "Cajun" restaurant. I requested seasoning on my fries and they did. The boudins were huge & tasty. Overall it was pretty good besides chicken needing more seasonings. read more

It felt a bit expensive but why not - the best gumbo I've ever had. Crawfish etoufee was incredible. Biscuits like you've never had. read more

I ordered the crawfish etoufee meal with two pieces of chicken. The crawfish etoufee was good. It had a little spice to it which I like. I was a little worried at first because the roux was a little lighter than I'm accustomed to, but I did like it. What I was disappointed by was the portion I received. Unfortunately it was a very small serving of etoufee. The biscuit looks like a Popeyes biscuit but has a homemade taste which is good. The fried chicken was ok . I also ordered the 3 boudin links. I did not like the boudin....it was very dry and just not good to me. Overall it was ok....I'd give it another try and order a larger order of etoufee without the chicken and definitely without the boudin. read more

Sorry, I lived in north Louisiana for five years and nothing tasted like this. The etouffee was fishy, the gumbo looked like red beans with shrimp and sausage in it. I didn't ask for baked chicken, but that was what I got. It had a lot of spice on it, but it just wasn't very tasty to me. I especially went for the biscuit, and it wasn't put in! read more

Gumbo and boudin was very good. Service was friendly and was quick enough. This is during covid so was not able to seat down and enjoy.

I found this place on Yelp. I'd been looking for some good Gumbo and seen how many great reviews this place had so I had my husband take me there . I will definitely be back over and over again! I ordered the Cajun bake chicken, Gumbo and Boudin OMGGGGGG everything was SO GOOD ! the young lady gave us a sample of the etouffee AND IT WAS DELICIOUS! friendly people and DELICIOUSLY CAJUN food! I rarely say a cajun place is good outside if southeast texas or Louisiana but they place is fire. Seriously the best gumbo I've ever had! Phenomenal flavor. Not to spicy but enough to have your taste buds wanting more. The seasoning was perfect not under or over seasoned it is the best recipe for the grratest gumbo you will ever taste. Food was amazing. I tried the gumbo, crawfish Etouffee, and boudin. All very flavorful.

I went into order because I had some time and I wanted to check out the place. The actual restaurant is not very fancy but the food that comes out of it is amazing. I ordered a two piece catfish basket, Boudin, and red beans and rice. Everything I had was amazing the catfish was crispy, fresh and well-seasoned. The fries were average. The Boudin was very tasty and the red beans and rice tasted like somebody's grandma made them. I thoroughly enjoyed my food and I will be back. The owner and cook was a very nice man and had a very good customer service. read more

My first time visiting this place. The gumbo was delicious (spicy) but super good!! Service was quick and professional.

Best gumbo I have had in a very long time. Taste like it was made at home in my wife's kitchen large shrimp, not precooked. Plenty chicken and sausage. And most of all the rue was on point. Good portion for the money. I shall return the next time I am in the area. Also ordered the boudin and a turkey leg. TBD but as good as the gumbo is I'm sure I won't be disappointed. read more

Stopped by here last night because I had a sudden craving for gumbo. It's a very unassuming place with minimal decor but their food is great. The gumbo I had had a ton of flavor and just the right amount of spice, with a good ratio of rice to meats. It definitely hit the spot in terms of my craving. My friend had the crawfish Étouffée and she found it delicious. This is the spot to go to if you're wanting some Cajun food in Oak Cliff. read more
