We're not from Duncanville--we traveled in for sports--and were looking for somewhere good to eat. After seeing all the great reviews, we decided to give it a try, and I'm SO glad we did! We walked in with a party of 7 and were seated right away with no wait. Our server, Lou, took care of us all night and was absolutely wonderful. He was incredibly kind, attentive, and knowledgeable about the menu, and he made the whole experience even better. And the FOOD. We started with the fried alligator appetizer, which was such a fun thing to try and was delicious. For our meals, we had the blackened shrimp & rice, chicken and waffles, and fried shrimp, and everyone at the table was raving about their food. We finished everything off with the beignets, because obviously we had to. We all left completely stuffed, happy, and already talking about coming back. It's not exactly a quick drive for us, but we would absolutely make the trip back to The Pelican House. Great food, great service, and a genuinely welcoming atmosphere. If you're in the area, put this place on your list!

The chips were packaged underneath the hot fish, which made them soggy, so they should have been packaged separately. I asked for coctail and tartar and got a minimal amount of a coctail sauslce and some other sauce at was yellow. We didnt bother trying it. The Cajun rolls also were not spicy at all and lacked the flavor I expected. While the fish and shrimp were enjoyable, the other dishes took away from the overall experience.

I've had Juicy Seafood on Wheatland Road before, though, and the recipe here seemed to taste a little different. The restaurant was clean and the table was freshly prepared with new paper. Utensils were already available in the buckets on the table. The biggest issue was the service. It took about 15 minutes just to get water, and refills weren't offered. Our waiter was friendly when he came by, but the service was noticeably slow throughout the visit. It also took quite a while for the checks to come out. He did provide to-go containers at the end.

The service is prompt but not rushed, with servers who are knowledgeable about the menu and happy to recommend dishes or pairings. Staff remember regulars' preferences and go the extra mile to ensure every customer has a great experience, They also provide a roll of napkins for the messy crab feast and make sure the meal is prepared exactly to order. My server- Harper- was kind, attentive, patient and smiled a lot. When you go, ask for her! The menu is centered around fresh, high-quality seafood, with a focus on various crab dishes--crab legs, crab cakes, and a signature crab boil. They also have egg rolls and cream cheese crab rangoon to mix it up a bit! They offer a selection of local craft beers, wines, and specialty cocktails that complement the seafood. They have drink specials everyday, Monday -Sunday. Overall, the atmosphere is lively and inviting, perfect for a casual solo night out, a family gathering, or a date night.

The Cajun Kitchen has been here in the Red Bird area of Oak Cliff for 10 years and this was our first visit. Only open M - F from 11 - 5:30p, this is a busy place. Nearly everything is cooked to order. The Gumbo was terrific. I like mine with okra and peppers and onion that I can SEE and it didn't have that, but their smooth spicy dark roux was delicious. I counted 6 large perfectly cooked shrimp in my pint of Gumbo with some diced chicken and sliced sausage and little bits of ham. I also like garlic bread. But honestly, it's hard to be too picky with something this good! Pint - $10.99 Next time, I'll just get it to go and do what I want to it at home. Lol. We also had the posted special - the Catfish Special for $10.99 The Catfish is some of the best that I've had in awhile! The cornmeal is seasoned to perfection, then the fish is fried to perfection and gently cradled on a slice of wheat bread. Um hm. Wheat bread. OMG. Two perfect pieces were served with some AWESOME red beans and rice. I just wasn't feeling fries and a substitution was made for the most glorious red beans and rice! So very good. A can of soda or bottle of water is included. Whole pickled jalapeños are available for 59 cents each. Yes! Have to have some of those, too. I stuffed myself and then took the rest home. As did my husband. For whatever the dining room may have lacked in ambiance, it more than made up in a good time. The A/C was good, the tables were comfortable and the service was friendly, kind and helpful. There's plenty of parking. They have to go and pick up spaces for food out front. BTW There's both baked and fried fish and chicken which sounds amazing. I hope to try both!

Unfortunately, my experience did not quite match the hype. I ordered the fried catfish fillet with collard greens, and while the meal was decent enough to eat, it was nothing particularly memorable. The catfish was cooked through, but it lacked the seasoning and crispy texture I usually expect from good southern-style fried fish. It tasted fairly plain and could have benefited from more flavor overall. The collard greens were also disappointing, as they seemed underseasoned and did not have the rich homemade taste that many people rave about in similar restaurants. The staff was courteous and the restaurant itself appeared clean and organized, so I can appreciate the effort in customer service. However, based on the food quality alone, I was left feeling underwhelmed considering the strong reviews and recommendations I had seen beforehand. It was not a terrible experience, but it also was not impressive enough to make me eager to return.
