Friendly, courteous staff when I see any. Lots of parking in lot. Biggest store in area. Need to come again after the holidays to look over the offerings slowly. read more

Their prices are reasonable and they often have coupons that I always use. They now offer self-checkouts along with regular checkouts. The staff are usually knowledgeable and helpful. I walked in with an idea but honestly had no clue how to execute it, and instead of making me feel out of place or overwhelmed, they got excited with me every step of the way. I visited the Michaels store in Union City recently to pick up materials for a craft project, but unfortunately had a very frustrating experience. While browsing, my 8-year-old urgently needed to use the restroom. We went to the front and asked an associate, but were told the bathrooms had just been cleaned and were closed for the rest of the night--even though it was only around 8:00 PM and the store doesn't close until 9:00 PM. I tried asking another employee, hoping for a different solution, but received the same response and was directed to use the Smart & Final next door instead. This was extremely inconvenient, especially as a parent shopping with a child. It's reasonable to expect a store to be more accommodating in situations like this, particularly during business hours. Because of this, we ended up leaving without purchasing anything. I've shopped at Michaels many times before, but this experience has made me reconsider. Going forward, I'll likely take my business elsewhere, such as Hobby Lobby, where I've found the staff to be more accommodating. read more

Like any other Michaels the layout are similar. The store is very clean. Workers here nice and friendly. Love their Christmas display. Don't forget to use the Michaels app for coupons. The downside is that they need more lights at the parking lot area. read more

Michaels is one of those arts and craft stores that has a lot of general "artsy" stuff for hobbyists but nothing more serious than that. So if you're looking for professional grade supplies you're better off going to a specialty store. This particular location is pretty small and is somehow always running low or completely out of things I need. Also, they always seem to be short staffed. It's sometimes hard finding someone out on the floor and there's always only one person working the register. All in all, it works for a pinch. read more

But if you want to get very creative with crafts and also easily spend an hour in this store Michaels is the store to go to with reasonable prices on crafting supplies that you need to do your project. I guess for me, bead work once in a blue moon can be fun customizing your own bracelet and so forth. So many trinkets and beads to inspire the projects you are wanting to design. This Michaels is great! I've been coming here since I was a kid and I still come here to this day. The workers are always super helpful and attentive whenever I have a question about something (usually where something is because this store is huge!). It's bright, well-lit, and very organized. Every time I come here there's always some kind of sale going on, which is a plus! I went to the "Michael's" store at the Union Landing shopping center today. First and last time, I assure you. I got a few items from their limited selection. When I paid at the register, the young lady asked me if I wanted a bag. I had too many items to carry without a bag, so I said, yes. Instead of the plastic or paper bags you normally pay 5 or 10 cents for, Michael's, in all of their self-serving wisdom, had only cloth "reusable" bags that cost 75 cents and, of course, say MICHAEL'S. So, people, we are not only to pay 75 cents for a cloth bag that probably cost 5 cents to make, we're supposed to walk around like a billboard advertising Michael's stores. We probably have 20 similar bags at home that we have been GIVEN at street fairs and such. I didn't need another one if it was free, and I sure did not want to pay 75 cents for one. Lot's of places have similar bags for sale, but they do not tell you that it's all they have. IF THIS IS A LEGAL TACTIC, IT SHOULDN'T BE. They gained 75 cents, but they lost a customer. Sunday closing crew is not it. Was in and out of the store in 4min with our purchase, and the staff still managed to deliver such a negative experience. TIP #1: Don't talk shit about customers on your radios near the cash registers where we're lined up to pay. At least wait until after the store has cleared or you're in the break room -- you know, like everyone else. TIP #2: Don't close/turn off the (automatic) doors before your closing time...and then lecture us about coming in. This girl tried to tell me she needed to shut off the automatic doors to make her closing announcement... Still can't figure out how those actions are mutually exclusive. Seems more like a deterrent so customers couldn't come in anymore. TIP #3: Assign more than 1 person to the cash registers for a long line since ya'll are in such a rush to gtfo of there. (We only beat the line because we were actually adamant about checking out before closing. You're welcome.) Too bad, I grew up in the area and this store is just not the same anymore. read more

Ahh Michael's. The ultimate craft heaven. I've been going here for years and the seasonal variety of fake flowers always astounds me. Warm vibrant reddish tones for Fall, frosted glittering blues for Winter, sweet pastels for Spring, and sunflowers for days during the Summer. Ask about flower arrangements. The employees range from chipper, helpful, to bored looking, especially at the registers if it's been a long day. Some go above and beyond. Once, I needed a single roll of floral tape instead of a 3 pack but couldn't find any. Two employees worked together, chatting happily while they looked it up on their hand held portable device and climbed up a ladder searching through boxes stored overhead just for my one roll of floral tape. Much appreciated effort! Knitting supplies, paints, school art project area devoted to grade school kiddos, photo frames, bakeware, candy melts, scrapbooks supplies, stickers, so many beads and jewelry ideas, ribbon, candles, baskets, omg they have everything! Of course, they showcase items for the next holiday. Coupons! There's always a 40% off a regular price item coupon available online and in mailers. I came to Michael's the very same week stores began to open. There weren't many people in the store. I did notice al employees wearing masks, they had a partition between cashiers and customers, and they had 6ft marks on the floor by the register for social distancing. I thought they were doing a great job. The only slight complaint I have is they stopped accepting competitions coupons because of Covid. Maybe it's changed since then, but at the time they didn't. read more

I've been coming to this Michaels for years and it never disappoints! The parking lot always has plenty of parking spots regardless of it being in the center of a shopping center with plenty of other stores. They always have amazing sales so make sure to check online for a coupon before making your purchase! They have a plethora of items from crafts to stickers and frames. Their holiday stuff also usually comes out pretty early so it's plenty of time to shop for your needs. The staff is also usually very helpful and kind. Lines don't last too long as everyone gets through efficiently. The store itself is also always pretty organized and stocked, there will be a rare occasion or two where there isn't a stock for a while. I came in for some help with a beginner wood painting project. Went straight to the cashier to ask for someone to help me and was told to wait in the corresponding aisle. No one ever came and no one came to inform me that they did not have anyone who had any knowledge of painting on wood, which I could understand that not all staff is trained in all types of art, but at least have the courtesy to come and tell me. I've been to a newer location in Milpitas and it definitely is more appealing and easier to shop at because of the cleanliness and organization. My wife and I went here with my parents on Friday night. For the most part, we all walked out pleased. Things got off to a rough start. I had to use the restroom right away (I just get so excited when I'm around crafts), and you have to enter a code now (at least since last year, this has been the case for the restrooms at the location near my house). A female employee was around, and so I was quickly able to enter the men's restroom (it's large and somewhat nice). The woman was quite rude, though. It was clear that I was a burden to her (I came close to calling her a name, but discretion is the better part of valor- in other words, I really had to go, and couldn't risk her closing the door before I entered). The woman was grumpy in general. She had a frown on her face when she was helping a female customer a few minutes later (I wonder if the woman is new- I've never seen her before). The left side of the store really smells right now (the odors aren't unpleasant, just strong). It's mainly from all the fake flowers. My dad and I had some time to kill (at one point, we lost track of the others, and walking around the store is sort of like walking through a maze), and so we looked at some books. There are some nice ones for kids and teenagers (ex: "I Can Paste!"; "I Can Color!"; "I Can Spit Up!"; "Stan Lee's How To Draw Comics"; "Sketch Manga"; "Sketch Dragons"). I'm also impressed by the crafts for kids. Some small toys are also sold here (a few aisles are actually devoted to kids). There are some nice posters here, including 3 Star Wars ones. Some lesbians were around (they were cool, but this weird guy annoyed my wife and I- we kept seeing him), and a pregnant couple was in front of us in line (the guy was almost as short as his woman). Anyway, we bought a nice picture frame. There was a BOGO deal, but we didn't know about it until our cashier told us, and we decided to pass on it (I didn't feel like walking back to retrieve another frame- my mom said that she would have taken the extra one, but in the same breath admitted that she never needs one of that size). We were able to use a 40% off coupon, though (I think the one my mom had was used on a cute basket that she bought). Our cashier was excellent. He was very friendly and helpful. Our receipt is pretty faded, but at the bottom is a 40% off coupon (it expires on the 21st). The store isn't as cluttered now as it was during the holidays, but some areas are still hard to walk through. This is a great store overall. The level of service, though, is a little hit or miss. read more

It certainly is the go-to place for a wide variety of crafting needs. Just the variety alone gives it four stars. But there are a few things that knock off half a star. I was extremely disappointed when they eliminated their huge variety of cross stitch kits to make room for.... well, I'm not sure. Just to make more room, I guess. Locking down the restrooms was an unnecessary stress-causer. More than half the time, I'm with my kids. We're either getting a lot of materials, or taking a long time deciding, and suddenly someone needs to go to the bathroom NOW. Finding someone to grudgingly let us in is a hassle I don't need. (Okay, sometimes it's me who needs to go NOW. I just like to blame these kinds of things on children. They don't mind.) The lines are not as long as they used to be, so either they're staffing better or business is slow. I hope they're staffing better. It must be true, because every once in awhile I see someone on the floor actually helping customers find what they need! I would like to see more of that. It's quite a big store and sometimes what you're looking for doesn't easily categorize into the big aisle headlines. All in all, it's 3.5 stars and definitely worth your while if you need a lot of crafting supplies. But if you're like me, you must remain disciplined. Or you will wind up with a cart full of impulse buys... things you ran across while searching the big floor space for what you really need. read more

I love the smell when I first walk into the store. Purchased some things that my son needed for a DNA project. We had leftover stuff that we didn't use from his project so we decided to go and return it. Long story short, they didn't want to do the return because I didn't have the original credit card that I purchased the stuff with. I did have the receipt though, but apparently that wasn't good enough and wanted to give me pennies for the items. I had to go back home to get the card and come back to return the stuff. Seeing that there aren't many arts and craft specialty stores in the area, Michael's is always a decent fallback store whenever I can't make it to Berkeley or San Francisco. I can almost always find the basics that I need here. Sometimes it helps to have another backup store in mind just in case Michael's doesn't have it. My backups to this backup store are: Joann's, Target, and surprisingly enough Walgreen's. Although Michael's scrapbook section is pretty good, their selection of photo albums aren't that good. It seems like Michael's has transitioned over to standardized digital photo sizes instead of plastic photo pages that hold a variety of photo sizes. Michael's also holds some specialty items that I need like etching cream, yet for some odd reason they do not supply contact paper (go to Home Depot). Service is often spread out amongst the cashiers and stock clerks. You won't find the fastest service or answers, but they tend to get the job done. read more

Michaels customer service team is fantastic. Even when they looks as they are too busy to assist you. They what there are doing to give you a helping hand. Today I was shopping for candles different scents such as pineapple, vanilla, white linen, berry and many others. I found them inside a Mason jar or decorated boxed. How cool is that!! This store is large and the aisles are easy to navigate. I like coming here for their paper craft supplies because they usually have a large selection. Most of their stuff is pretty expensive so I only come when I have a coupon. The employees are knowledgeable if you can find one! I usually have to search for the employees when I need help. Three years ago I came here to have my wedding bouquet done and the lady at the flower counter did an amazing job! Bad customer service! IMHO, store should stand for the product quality they sell in their store. I purchased Wilton cookie cutter. After 1 time used, it turned rusty. I went to the store to return it. The store manager, Stacey, gave me the nasty eye and told me they are not responsible for the product quality. Excuse me? Seriously? Michael's can do a better customer service than this. Giving 2 stars because In the end they let me return it but wish they didn't have to make people feeling bad returning a bad product. You know? I love this store. I love the smell that hits me when I walk in. They always have more than what I really need. I'll see items I didn't know existed and throw them in the cart. Some things you may be able to find a little cheaper at Walmart, but I've gotten too many items from Walmart that I discovered later were broken or flawed in some way. It's just not worth fighting the parking at Walmart and dealing with the messy store to go back and exchange that one pot of gel frosting coloring that's cracked on the bottom or the extremely flawed skein of Lion yarn. Plus I always find that I need to make a trip to Michael's anyways because Walmart doesn't have everything that a project I'm working on calls for. There are always associates around to ask questions when you can't find something, or you're not sure about the application of a particular product. I usually never go to Michael's since I'm not too much into arts and crafts, but whenever I need beads and string I go here because it is closest to me. Overall I think this store is clean and the staff is nice. They even let me in right before they closed as long as I knew what I was getting so I was quick. Not sure how else to rate this place since I rarely ever go here, but out of the times that I have been here it's been a pleasant experience. I love shopping at Michael's. Their prices are expensive but there are mail coupons for 40% off a single item then there are email coupons, if you sign up with the store. They offer classes from baking to scrapbooking to stitching and much more--at reasonable fees--then they give you discount coupons for the class supplies. The store is organized, the staff is helpful and efficient, and there are quite a few clearance items in stock. Also the baking and the crafts instructors (Johane and Annette) are very talented. I also like their displays and can get so many inspirations when I go here. I come here all the time because they always have new merchandise constantly and great sales on older items. I placed a large order for bunting and ribbon for the 4th of July from Michaels.com. First time I've ordered from them, but my local store didn't have these items. When I received the order, over 1/2 of it had been substituted without notification. Specifically, I ordered 5 large 3 ft x 6 ft Valley Forge Fabric bunting and instead received cheap flocked 18in x 36 inch plastic bunting by Ashland. I ordered 6 spools of 1 specific style of navy ribbon with stars and received 3 striped ribbons and 3 of a different star pattern. I also ordered some smaller Valley Forge bunting (received correctly) and some 5 inch red mesh ribbon (also received correctly) When I called customer service, they were very polite, issued a return label promptly. But when I asked about them resending the correct items, they would not do that until 3-5 days after they received the return. Too late for my party. So I returned it all. Customer Rep was fine with that and said I'd get a full refund once return was received. (Keeping my fingers crossed that that will happen). No charge for the refund. But I'm disappointed this order was so wrong. Update....Also, tried to post this review to their site. It said I had ad blocker on. Checked my settings....it said "allow"....searched my applications....no ad blocker.....no security app with ad blocker turned on. Strange....did they just not like my review because it was so bad? read more
