Interior of store

Love this store! The store is very well organized and easy to shop. There weren't a lot of people employees around to assist and for some reason the lights in certain parts of the store kept going off! Other than that, it was very easy to find what I needed. I was happy that they still had some Christmas decor there for 80% odd and since I'm a member of their rewards program, I had a $5 rewards certificate that they had added to my account. Everything is already fairly priced and on top of that they have sales going on. Love the quality of items here as well. The parking is super easy with the underground garage although it can be a little tricky to find the store if you're not familiar with the strip mall. It's tucked behind bar method on the top level.

Michael's is one of those stores that you go into when you want to purchase items to create art and/or other craft orientated items. Of course, they also have a very nice framing facility within each of their stores. All Michael's stores are in some ways the same, but they each have a unique set of items that other stores throughout the Los Angeles area may not carry. This being said, you will always be able to find the canvas, the paint, the paint brushes, and the other art orientated items that you will need at any one of their stores. The one thing I will say about this Michael's is that it feels a bit more confined than the other locations that I commonly go to. This store is located on the second level of the shopping plaza, so you have to take the escalator to get to it. Even in the open area between the escalator and the store itself, it feels kind of enclosed. When you go inside the store, there's no large windows, letting light in, as is common in most Michael's locations. I believe this is why the store feels more cramped and less bright, and free-flowing. This being said, it does not mean that they don't have all the stuff that Michael's is known for. So you'll be sure to be able to find what you're looking for. As it's always the case with all Michael's locations, the staff is always very nice, helpful, and willing to help you find and/or decide upon what you need. This is a great place to go when you need what Michael's has to offer.

7 frames ordered, 2 delivered in separate packages, 1 shattered.

But the shop has completely not kept up with the times. Not having your inventory priced with tags is a no-go, full stop. "It's too hard" or "we have too much stuff" are not acceptable explanations when it creates a really awkward situation for everyone involved: the owner, who has to look up prices individually, and the customer, who may be caught out at the register when something is out of budget. Their tenure is evident by the sheer volume of things they have, and to their credit, their stock is extremely varied and large. Quite easy to lose two hours here. But I found the service hot and cold: they'd sometimes follow me around, but respond coldly when I asked questions. The pricing structure and service just made this a really unpleasant experience that was not at all offset by their large stock. I will skip this when I'm in the area and won't be recommending to friends.

This shop is MASSIVE, with thousands of yarn made up of different fibers from acrylics to cashmere to camel to merino wool; you name it! They also have a big selection of buttons, knitting patterns, embroidery/cross knit patterns, and knitting supplies. What I love is they have a knitting club on site where you can also get lessons and help if you've reached a problem with your knitting. Prices are not displaced on yarn as they have so many so I would advise gathering a few choices and then asking about their pricing so you can find one in your budget. This is a family owned small business and I chatted with the son of the owners for a few minutes and this seems like such a lovely location establishment to have in our neighborhood, especially if you're a knitter. You can make an account for free with the store that will save your purchase history if you need more of a purchased item and also they have a newsletter you can sign up for that includes information on sales!

I've been in the morning as well as before closing. It's always busy. Guess it's a good thing on their part. Like mentioned, I don't recommend coming in for the last minute holiday decorations. You would think as it's early in December, they'll have some things left over. Well, majority of things are gone. Loads of the isles have been cleared already. I've even seen some employees taking down the fixtures already. It's good for them but if you're looking for the decoration, I do recommend coming early. Like a month or so. They have them out early and most are on sale. It's still half off for Christmas items. You'll still get things there as they have random stuffs. But majority of holiday items are gone. I don't know if they'll restock anything now but if you're not looking for something particular, I'm sure they'll have it. It's also a store that literally carries everything. It's basically a Joann's, Michael's and a Home Goods all under one roof. There's everything that you can want or need in a craft store of such. Also, why is it that all the store seems to be short with cashiers. There's always a massive line in the store and there's like 3, maybe 4 cashier. If you coming, just make sure not to be in a rush. But I'm sure you'll end up leaving with one thing or a cart of things. They alway do have amazing discounts.

"Paint it! Paint it black!!!"…read more My go to local small art supply, art gallery, art happenings and creative vibes stores. Carter Sexton Artist Materials is located in Los Angeles' San Fernando Valley within the Valley Village/Studio City area and resides on Laurel Canyon Boulevard/just a beat down from Chandler Blvd and the Laurel Canyon Metro Station for the Orange (aka G) line. It's got lots of fun nooks and crannies with great materials, supplies, service and sales (including 40% off, clearance items and more). It was easy for me to follow a lot of their played out pricing for canvas (10 years in retail, though it's been almost 10 years since I walked away from it and yet still retain so much lol). I ventured into the "Come (On) In" area and discovered some complimentary artist guides, incredible artwork and extra items I was seeking for a sketching event I hosted over the weekend. Love coming in on Saturdays, though it's been several months since I was last in, hoping to change that, check out more of their events, including some great some shows this holiday season like their Medley. I don't have much to submit by their deadline, but highly recommend you do if you're an artist, aspiring artist or creative. They definitely are neighborhood feel with some cool regulars. Caught some warming interactions and references to Cheers (the 80s to early 90s series) between the staff and a really nice returning customer. I'm not sure if Kelli was there when I stopped in, but I've had some greatest response with her in the past online when inquire about things. Everyone is super knowledgeable, mindful and respectful. Ready to assist, but also let you take your time exploring and feeling out all they have to offer. Street parking primarily with a 1hour limit from 8am to 6pm. Some limited spaces in their back alley parking, that I'm sure is super great for their staff/ the Carter Sexton family. Its first come first serve, but you might get lucky. Open from 10am to 6pm Monday through Saturday weekly with some variations for holidays. A must whether a local, passing through or seeking out a small biz to support that does great things for the area, and showcasing a spotlights artists of all walks of lives and ages. Even Bob Ross on display wants you to check out this great supportive Art spot. "We don't make mistakes, just happy little accidents."

Also, it fosters community, hosting monthly art exhibits which local artists can submit to. The prices are very reasonable. The staff are helpful and kind. Each month's exhibit has a theme, and there's always an opening reception. Unlike many art shows, Carter Sexton's shows don't ask for money just to submit your work. Only if your work is accepted and you choose to participate do you pay a modest fee ($15) which is a great deal, because the shop clearly spends a lot of time making placards for each piece with the artist's name and mini-bio, and then hanging the work. You can sell your exhibited work and/or sell prints of it. I'm so grateful for the community this place fosters!

I came here with my draftsman, a guy who still draws by hand -- a dying breed in a world that runs on Ctrl+Z. Watching him walk these aisles was like watching a monk in a cathedral. Every shelf, every pen, every tube of paint is curated chaos. And the best part? The staff actually care. They know the difference between gouache and watercolor -- and they don't judge you for mispronouncing it. Friendly service, clean restrooms (a small miracle in Los Angeles), and a selection so deep it could inspire Picasso's ghost to start over. From sketchbooks to sculpting tools, markers to mat cutters, they've got everything you need to make something real -- or at least look like you tried.
