I came in close to closing time to purchase one single item. The clerk rolled his eyes and made a huge deal of me coming with two minutes to close, even through the item I wanted to buy was perched directly behind him and my purchase took exactly ONE MINUTE. I literally entered at :58 and left at :59. He offered zero semblance of customer service and seemed irritated at my overall presence. I went I hear the other day and when we walked In the employee was on the phone with a customer and when he got off the phone he didn't greet us or even acknowledge us as we where looking at cards in the case was going to buy something but since the service was awful we decided not to the employee was rude to the other female employee while she was stocking some comics, will not be back due to poor customer service read more

Mega City One is amazing!! It may not look like much from the outside, but if you love comic books like me, it has mostly EVERYTHING you are looking for to meet your regular comic book fixes!! I've been going to this store for years and they rarely let me down. The owner and JON who's runs the store are incredible and have a wealth full of knowledge. Beyond that, they will go to the extra mile to make sure that your comic book needs are fullfied and you and your needs are fully taken care of. Also, Mega City One far exceeds their closest competition, that "Rotten Apple" place down the street! Forever, for me, Comic Books have always stood for "Truth, Justice and the American Way!" When in a new city I like to try to make time to pop into at least one comic book store and see what they have to offer. Mega City One, as other reviews have stated, has an overall cool vibe. Very laid back and casual, the person working didn't have all the answers for a couple questions I had, but quickly got online to see if she could get me an answer - they seem to prioritize customer service. Also, what was kind of nice, there are a lot of comic stores if you don't know the employees they don't really have the time of day for you . Didn't feel that way here at all. Nice selection of exclusive variants on the back wall - some I wasn't even familiar with. Didn't see a lot of Silver/Golden age, so if that's what you're into this place may not fit the bill (or I may have just missed them - I wasn't in here too long). Prices were avg to slightly high, but that is comparing to prices in the city I live in and it may be very much in line with prices found locally in this area. All in all a pretty good store. I went in tonight on a whim (after the Harley Quinn set) and was thrilled to see the location bustling with people. Print is not dead. Even if the majority were playing card games. I feel that made it a more fun atmosphere. Of course I ended up seeing more things I wanted, and made one extra impulse purchase, and the handsome blonde gentleman gave me 20% off. A young woman had just bought Cards of Humanity and wanted to play a round so I joined in. So did the handsome blonde staffer who helped me prior. They were all incredibly nice people and made me feel comfortable and like I fit in. I will definitely be going back for the next Harley Quinn set and I hope to run into these nice people again. read more

We went to this location twice. There is street parking for pay and then some residential parking right around the corner which is free. I didn't get that great of welcoming on either time I came. The first time I went I saw a variety of figures and comics which was good. There wasn't too much for Superman. There are posters all over the ceiling which is unique. The two guys working there seemed more into themselves and what they were doing then interacting with me or acknowledging me. I asked to see a toy that caught my eye and had them took it down and told them that I may be back. A couple days later we came back and there seemed to be some more activity and a magic game going on. They had more staff and seemed more engaging. I got the toy I wanted and the salesman kept trying to show me other things, which is nice but also annoying. I got the toy and we left. Overall, the place has an interesting feeling to it. My brother in law LOVES comics and frequents this shop. He's well known by the owner and employees. I live in Anaheim so it would be too much hassle to stop in for a store credit as a gift. The employees were super helpful and accommodating in making it possible for me to charge my card over the phone. I mostly enjoyed coming in here. Has decent inventory. Gotta watch out for the prices. They are inconsistent. They overcharged me for a booster box of cards. Wouldn't admit it in the store and they didn't answer my email that I sent clarifying pricing. Staff seem nice but don't seem to know much about their own inventory. Bait and switch! Unbelievable. Very sad to post this. I've been a customer for a long time here and just had the most appalling experience. I called in to reserve 4 items that they had in stock and was given the price $15/each. I come in the same day to pick it up (and I do not live very close). When I come in the store, I'm told I can only purchase one, and have to buy the other 3 tomorrow. No reason was given. Then it gets worse. After an employee calls the manager/owner, they CHANGE the price on me!!! Now it's $25 each!!! WOW. I ask to speak to the manager, but he says he's unavailable. Even though he was talking to the employee a minute ago. UNBELIEVABLE. A waste of time and a scam. I can't believe this is how a business is run. I won't be coming back. read more

This comic store is rad is a number of different ways. I never grew up on comics, I grew up on baseball cards. If I could do it all over again I would have. In high school I did something faaaar more geeky: I played Magic the Gathering. So right before I moved to LA I got into this nostalgic phase where I went and build a deck. With the urge to play I looked up some spots that might accommodate that need. This came up. Now, It was not long before I found out how much the game had changed that I decided to stop. You can't just make a deck after being out of the loop since 1998 and expect to know whats going on. So many new cards have come out and the game has changed. THE GAME DOOOOONE CHAAAANNGE. I quickly decided to stop. Cut out this nonsense. It was going to cost me too much money and time to get back into the MTG loop. However, This place on Melrose was cool for so many other reasons. You can get loose individual cards of what ever set is out at the time. You can get loose comics from the bargain bin for a quarter. I found an issue of the "Batman vs. Predator" series. This place also threw me back to my high school days in another way. The teenage me used to go to stores like "Tunes" in Hoboken and "Disc-o-rama" in the village to find bargain CDs. The era of digital music has completely taken over and this record store is still here and still pretty awesome. I think I picked up a Soul Asylum CD from before they were good. One other cool thing is its well trafficked with tourists. Walking in here you will see all types of people from all walks of life and all parts of the world. From a leather jacketed punk rock Brit, well versed on his rare editions of Cock Sparrer Vinyls to a Business suit looking for a couple of live 'Stones' albums. Also in terms of magic cards the regulars here are some of the best comp in LA. I think the kid I spoke to that works there was or still is officially a judge for Wizards of the Coast. This is actually a decent comic-book store. It' not going to win any awards for looking awesome though. Inside it looks like a old indie music store. What more than makes up for the look is the tons of merchandise. Plus 20 % off new comics. They have a huge selection of comic book merch all over the place. Action figures, trades, archives of old comics and posters. Can get a little cramped. You can easily miss this place just driving by, but it the sore right on the corner across from the tatoo shop. It's called "Melrose Music." With a corner shop on Melrose, a lot more could be done with the space. Maybe in some bygone era, this was a cool store, but even calling this a record shop is a stretch. A bin or two of mostly fair-quality LPs, a few rows of pretty standard CDs, mostly used, and that's it. But then again, to look at the place, it's not a music store at all. It's a comic book shop (by all appearances from the outside). I don't know much about comics, but that selection seemed pretty weak as well. They did have a few posters that were reasonably priced, but again, a very thin selection. If you're strolling down Melrose, just keep walking. Nothing to see here. read more

Melrose Music & Comics is the only place that I would get brand new comics if I didn't go to Frank and Sons. They give you 20% off on new issue releases, and no other place within the Los Angeles area will do that. They also have varying sales on random graphic novels that you can look at. Sales at Comic stores make me smile, but it makes my wallet very very sad. Don't make my wallet cry any more okay Melrose? read more

I haven't actually shopped or bought anything here yet, but I stopped in the other night to check it out and ask if they had the new record by The Bomb. No go, and the guy working there -- who was nice enough -- said that they don't stock many new records because they don't sell. So the CD stock is mostly used. Besides, it's not really a record store, anyway. It's a comic book store. They seemed to have your standard new issue stock, as well as some back issue bins, so it's good to know there's a comic shop within walking distance. I'll have to return to see what they actually stock. If Newbury Comics in Boston is a record store with "comics" in its name, Melrose Music is a comic book store with "music in its name. Wonder if it once had more music than comics! read more

Been a customer for over 5 years! This is the best comic store in Los Angeles. Located in a prime spot on Melrose, I used to go to Golden Apple, but discovered this store when the Apple ran out of two action figures I wanted. Went in and discovered they pull your comics for you, super helpful with special comics that sell out immediately. They also help you out and think of you when a comic comes out you didn't request because you collect them usually. Like I wrote my order, and forgot to add a DC title, they know my pull list and pulled it for me anyway. They also revamped the store and it looks fresh and awesome. Great pins and posters and t-shirts. And great selection of toys and action figures (which they can order for you). Did I mention the free bag and board with the 20% off comics? Hell-o! Injured my ankle so I had to find something less physical than basketball, but still have that competitiveness aspect. So I decided to pick up Magic again. A couple of buddies introduced me to this shop and I am very glad I did. They play various music while you nerd out. This place has collectible toys, comic books, music records, posters, t shirts, and most importantly the magic singles / TCG accessories. Staff is very friendly and knowledgable. Ask for Chris or Reese and they will be sure to take good care of you. I like to come here for the mtg drafts on Thursday nights. It's $15, Swiss, and the payout are very reasonable. They also have Friday night standard format tournaments along with drafts if enough people show up. The crowd here are very friendly. Everyone is laid back. People here just want to relax and get some magic in. I actually learn a lot from playing against all the various players here. This place can get busy and as a result the limited parking spaces in the rear can fill up really fast. I recommend to find metered parking if possible. It will be tough especially since Melrose is a very busy street. Tough, but not impossible. Thank you Chis and Reese for making this a great spot to play magic. I haven't been here in a hot minute, but damn, this is a great card shop. I'm into Magic: the Gathering, and have come here for a few standard events and drafts in the past. The staff is great, and the people who go here are pretty hip and not so mind-numbingly aspergery and socially awkward that you can't strike up a conversation with a stranger or mat down and start a game, like it is...well, basically anywhere else you go to play MtG. I wouldn't think about going anywhere else for MtG stuff; I'm not really into comics, but it looks like they have one metric fuckton of a selection. Check it out! read more
