Whenever I come here I pretty much follow the same self guided path throughout. Aka, my search routine based on my interests. Immediately to the left side of entering you have the discounted graphic novels. Both paperback and hardcover. I find at least one gem everytime. I then move through the back issues, followed by a short trip through the graphic novel shelves. And finally to the current issues. Which would be the whole right side wall of the store. They have a solid selection. Both new, old, and in-between. Everything's well organized and prices are definitely reasonable. Which means it's rare that I ever walk out empty handed. Pulp Fiction is always a nice low stress shop to visit. The staff are very friendly (and if you're lucky you get to see their comic book shop mascot dog). The area is always clean and I like how it's organized with kids and family comics near the front and merchandise near the back. I've been to plenty of comic book stores that don't always treat you like you're supposed to be there, but Pulp Fiction is welcoming to novices and hard core lore followers of any background. Came in from out of town looking for a comic for a friend. The lady at the desk was absolutely hospitable. When we couldn't find 3 out of 4 of the comics I was looking for, she directed me to a handful of other stores before wrapping my purchase in a travel bag. If you're looking for the stereotypical unhappy, dismissive comic store employee, look somewhere else! Pulp Fiction has the most accommodating and helpful staff! Another case of bookmarked forever but finally attained! Pulp Fiction is the consummate comic book store that is slowly disappearing, and not to dis A Shop Called Quest, they have droves of back issues in boxes to browse and much much more. I realized that the shop was fairly close to the LA Wine Company and not too far away from The Wine House in the Culver City neck of the woods so voila! I followed the map directions and landed street parking around the corner. The section of town has that agreeable feel to it, coffee shop nearby with guys playing speed chess and lots of mom and pop stores. The front sign is almost a relic in of itself! I should have taken a landscape photo upon entering, it's that expansive inside. I noticed the Black Friday deals up front for graphic novels and comics, and while I didn't see anything that I needed (wanted is another category) it was impressive. I had a few target recent back issues in mind and was delighted to find every issue of Savage Avengers (#1-5) to complete my set to date. The amount of new comics is great and laid out in a way that you can actually browse without overlooking titles because they're stacked in stepped rows eight deep! Another aspect that supports my 5-star review is the neatly alphabetized graphic novel section that resembles a library with goodies. The two employees were also fantastic and extremely friendly and helpful. Thank you! I am looking forward to future visits and highly recommend shopping here for toys, books and everything else related to comics. read more

This store is located between a Thai restaurant and an APEX Aquarium store. There's parking in the back, but I wasn't quite sure which one belonged to their store, so I parked in the front in the metered spot. $1.00 for an hour, and the meters takes credit card or coins. The store has lots of comic books and Funkos but sadly not the ones I was looking for. The girl behind the counter was super friendly and helpful, but couldn't really point me in the direction I needed for Funkos. I can't find any fault here. If you plan on parking in the back, the driveway seems to be behind the APEX side. read more

Pulp Fiction is bigger than I thought it would be. I came here this weekend to sell some old comics. Didn't really get too much from them though. Just $4 but I didn't really bring a ton of comics in. It was more of a great opportunity to check out the store and see what they had. There was a young gentleman working at the store when I was here over the weekend. He seemed pretty nice and laid back. The store had more than just comics. They also had hardcover and paperback books. And you can also sell your books here in addition to your comics. They had the old stuff and the new stuff. As well as things that weren't what you'd think when you think of comics like Star Wars, Dr. Who, Adventure Time, Regular Show, even My Little Pony. Also, Pulp Fiction sells toys like Marvel Figures and those cute Funko Pop toys. It's a pretty cool store. Parking: I didn't check to see if there was parking in the back, or if you could park in the neighborhood since we found parking right in front. I don't like the way I was treated. I won't be coming back. I used to bring books in on the regular. Apparently my business isn't good enough for them because bringing books in for trade on a weds results in getting scolded like a child. Now apparently bringing books in on a Monday is a problem now too?! It's not as if I was asking for money. Every penny I traded in went towards purchasing more books from them. I ended up going to this store while out in Culver City last week, and I enjoyed it so much, I made the trek from Burbank to go again! I have certain TPB collections I've been buying and looking for and they had a great selection - and I was almost shocked when I got to the register and saw they were 30% off! They had a good selection of new issues, and what I liked was that if something sold out, they had a notice where that book would be, so you didn't wonder "did that come out?" There were dozens of $1 back issue bins and I'd love to pore through them more at some time - there were a lot. I saw some comments here on Yelp about "poor customer service" and "no one asked if they could help me" or things like that. I actually commented to my friend that I loved that about this store... I spent a good 45 minutes looking around - knowing I was going to buy some things - and no one bothered me or made me feel like I was loitering or anything like that. And when I was rung up, the woman behind the counter was incredibly friendly, and friendliness is the main thing I ask for. read more

I really wanted to like this place. It's close to my house and I care a lot about supporting small businesses and much of their staff are really nice. I've probably been here 2-3x a month for the last 3 months. They have what I'm looking for about 50% of the time. They also have a very limited selection from local artists and writers. In some cases they've never gotten in what they said they'd order and it took over a month to get another book I was looking for. (This was not obscure stuff, it was mainstream Brian K Vaughan etc...) It's not a disaster to wait, though. My main beef is that one of their employees is so snarky. She always nickel and dimes me on my sell-backs, never helps me find anything ("if it's not on the rack we don't have it"), and doesn't even just chat comics for a minute at checkout. I once saw her tell a kid, maybe 9, to "get off the floor" (he was squatting, quietly reading), bc he was "creating a fire hazard" in a basically empty store. I go to local businesses for a feeling of community, recommendations, knowledgeable staff, and local options. But if you don't get that, might as well just order from Amazon. Today I got hassled about the credit card minimum bc my store credit from the book I sold back put me under the $10 minimum. I get it, but come on, I'm there all the time. Give me a break. Looking forward to checking out some of the other, plentiful, LA options. read more

Came to this comic shop as it is close to my work, and was not disappointed. They had a good selection and the shopkeep (woman with blue hair) was kind and chatty. However, the hours listed here are not the same with the actual hours they are open so I was forced to wait an additional 30 minutes before I could get in. Previous reviewers complained that 1 the staff was too friendly and 2 that it was bad that they didn't let him use their loft to teach art for his own enjoyment or maybe profit. When I own my own store I want to have a friendly staff greet people and I won't let people won don't buy my merchandise use my space rent free for their own enjoyment. I don't think you would either. The bottom line is this... 40% off cover price on most graphic novels, up to 25% off cover price of new comics if you set up a pull list , a huge selection of action figures manga and back issues AND the friendliest staff at any store I have ever visited. So many people trade stuff in that the comic and tpb sections are constantly packed with new stuff. What has the world come to when people get mad they get greeted in a friendly way when they walk into a business?! UGH... some people! read more
