Although I consider myself an artist and a creative; the skillset of drawing and illustrative art eludes me. Even though I am not the one to call on when wanting to have your likeness sketched; I do appreciate the art of drawing and am drawn (pun intended) to individuals who are illustrators/artists/etc. These people, although NOT comic book nerds (I draw the line at that -another pun!) can delineate quality comic books, graphic novels and art books. My boyfriend, who is an esteemed Hollywood 3D animation artist with a long list of credits to his name (so proud of him!); is an artist inside and out and we recently followed our curiosity into House of Secrets: comic book/graphic novel/collectibles shop in Burbank. House of Secrets is a 35+ year old local business originally holding down the fort in La Canada-Flintridge before its current real estate at the corner of Olive and Lamer not far from the Warner Bros Studio lot. From the exterior, House of Secrets looks like a regular ole' storefront but it lives up to its moniker because its doors truly open to an immersive art-filled comic book store that is unlike many I have seen (not that I have been to THAT many). House of Secrets has the vibes akin to the coolest record store you can imagine with a main room filled with bins and shelves of comic books, graphic novels and other art books from rare and back copies to modern-day releases all beautifully organized and tidy making any OCD-afflicted individual (me) overjoyed. House of Secrets is a world of color and print and even supplements the actual merchandise stock with posters on the ceiling and laminated into the floor tiles. Every inch of House of Secrets is a work of art. But if that isn't enough, House of Secrets features side rooms giving it an art gallery vibe with even more comics/books plus art from local artists for sale. Frankly, House of Secrets is 'cool' even for someone like me who isn't a comic book nerd and not a part of the world of graphic novels due to it being an art paradise. House of Secrets is an experience that is interesting to check out simply for the ambiance. The customer service at House of Secrets is also top-tier as my boyfriend who knows a little more about the merch sold at the shop than I do; asked for a particular piece and the gentleman working (I am assuming one of the owners) immediately had answers and knew what he was talking about which was also reflected when overhearing him answer other customer's questions. Plus, he wasn't annoyed that we were hanging in the store near closing time! I've noticed that I often feel very uncomfortable in specialty niche stores especially if out of my hobby element but somehow felt fine at House of Secrets. They are welcoming and friendly to all who enter their threshold. I can't comment on the pricing at House of Secrets and whether they overcharge or excel in this aspect as well because I do not know enough about the products to even remotely know proper pricing. Word on the streets is that House of Secrets also holds events and author signings! House of Secrets is an incredible local Burbank business that is exceptional for comic book lovers but also 'fun' for those who may be lesser so; but appreciate art and print. Definitely check out House of Secrets when in the Burbank area!

What a remarkably beautiful icon of a comic store. From the floors, to the ceiling, from all the way and back to the entry, it's a smorgasbord for the senses of an enthusiast. On display were several rare comics. One of which was a #1 Mystery in Space from April-May of 1951, $5999! The grading must be about 9.1? At any rate they didn't have what I was looking for. I could special order it... But as I mentioned to he who i presume was the owner, I prefer to wander in and just find it somewhere. Too easy to just order and wait. So why does it deserve five stars which is rare for me. Because itself, it is rare indeed to walk into such a beautiful store. Users of Yelp can get 20% off their first check in. That's pleasantly generous.

The staff is beyond friendly and, even though this location is small, it has a fantastic array of comics and other collectables. Even with my pull list at their other location, I always find something I have to pick up on my quick visit. They also have fantastic signings here throughout the year so there's a good chance that you can meet either one of your favorite writers or be introduced to your next obsession. My only complaint isn't even their fault & it's the parking. Like most of this area of NoHo, it's all limited street parking with meters or you're going to have to cross your fingers that you can find something in the residential streets in the area. But honestly, it's worth it. If you live in the area and are looking for your new favorite neighborhood shop, this is it.

Halo 13 is a nerdy geeky dream!…read more The people in here are nice, friendly and knowledgeable. And the selection of comics, collectibles, cards and what not is impressive. They have some arcade games in-store you can play, candy dispensers and crane games that all take quarters, but they don't have a lot of change... A coin machine would be great inside! Good value for lots of items including some graphic novels. It's a good time in on the Southwest side where not many things thrive including the revitalized Sears, but Halo 13 is always here! Though recently they relocated more centrally in the mall (where the old GameStop used to be) - on the first floor near the food court. One of the longest standing stores in the Burbank Town Center, since it open its doors in 2008. It has shuffled around physically from floor to floor, but always glad it's still around. You can shop online from limited radius delivery or store pick-up, though this doesn't include books of any sort, but does have a lot of their pins (which I've been collecting). Be back soon!

I always struggle to give small businesses like this low reviews, but this one just has too much…read moregoing on that I don't like to overlook it. First of all, as many of the other reviews point out, the employees don't seem engaged with the work. If I worked in a toy store, I would have a conversation with everyone that came in. These are, after all, meant to bring joy and happiness, but the employees just seem miserable being here. It's not a good look. Many of the figures and statues are very cool looking, but extremely over priced. The level of gouging here is really unfortunate, because they do stock some items that you struggle to find other places, but then they jack the prices up so much that all anyone can do is look at them. This goes for action figures too, where they offer a selection of very quickly aging macfarlane figures, that warmed the pegs when they were new, now sitting dusty at above msrp. And they aren't even good ones. This goes for many of the figures, the gi joe, the turtles, all of it is just over priced. Cool stuff, not worth what they ask. This goes double bad for the small selection of comic books they have. They are charging cover price or more for books that would be in the dollar bin at any other comic store. Ten year old shelf warmer books being sold for cover price is diabolical. It's no wonder they've had the same comics for months; nobody wants to pay full price for gap-filling dollar issues. Finally, I would like to bring my little ones into the store to check out the toys, but more than once I've been in and the employee has inappropriate media playing on the tv; comic book violence is one thing, but we're talking heavy R rated swearing and adult situations on full display in a toy store, at top volume. I just can't say I'd recommend this place to an average consumer unless they are the only place on the planet that has the item you want.

As a new player, you can imagine my excitement to finally play out in the wild and not via sim or at home with my partner. After signing up for the event on the Bandai app, I noticed that the store had included a note that signing up on the app did not guarantee registration for the event and that registration would be first-come, first-serve the day of. Kind of defeats the purpose of pre-registering, but no problem. When my partner & I contacted the store for the event information, we were each told that sign-ups would begin at 6 p.m., and they discouraged coming earlier due to lack of space in store.   As I mentioned, I'm not a regular player to this store, and I'm not expecting to be treated with entitlement here, but I was disheartened to hear the employee tell me that, if I wanted to play in the pre-release, there was no point in waiting since they already allowed their local players to sign up well before the sign up time they told me and that they couldn't just tell them "to get the fuck out of the store."  But, clearly, he had no issues telling me that I could essentially get lost as they had honored others instead of the sign up policy they told me. When my partner called them out on this, we were offered to purchase six packs of OP-17 at MSRP (only if we waited in the artificial event line until 7 p.m.). When I declined and called it a joke, they offered to let us purchase a box of OP-17 at $400. The previous Friday (and outside of a pre-release event), they were selling sealed boxes of OP-17 for $330. I'm not faulting the store for selling outside of events and before the actual release date here (but I definitely will complain to Bandai about it), but the actual disrespect of trying to scalp a person that just wanted to participate in the event and join in the community was such a slap in the face.   While I had never played in a tournament or any kind of event at Legacy (or anywhere else) before, I have had the unfortunate experience of purchasing cards and sleeves from them. About 90% of the time, I am met with employees that I have to ask to help me because they are either on their phones, daydreaming, or just ignoring me. I'm not acquainted with a lot of card shops, but as the only example I had at the time, I was mistakenly led to believe that this kind of poor customer service was a standard. I have since experienced the gold standard at other card shops, such as Core TCG in Pasadena and Jungle in Little Tokyo.   I can't imagine how people within what seems to be such a fun, welcoming community accept this kind of treatment and blatant disrespect for themselves and others. For those that love One Piece as much as I have come to love OP, it saddens me that people are not more empowered to stand against this kind of malpractice.   This said, I want to give Legacy credit for doubling me down in this hobby outside of their business, supporting fair and honest spaces elsewhere that respect us in return.

If you love pinball, they have cool machines here. I saw pulp fiction, jurassic park, and evil dead machines, for example. Their comic book shop isn't the largest one in LA; however, they are well stocked here. Check their website to see their inventory of unique items. If you keep an eye on their calendar they will have interesting events here. My wife has seen comic book signings here. Last week they had Jeff Hays, famous for the "Dungeon Crawler Carl" audio books, who was on site to do a reading of "Absolute Batman #1" for Batman Day. On top of this, they have some nicely curated gems. My wife was able to get a curated stack of "Vampire Hunter" comics that was from the Buffy universe. Next door, they have a coffee shop with ample seating/table space. Saw a group of people playing D&D there. The summation of all these things is what makes this spot in Eagle Rock special. We didn't even mind contending with the terrible parking in the area. Because I live in Long Beach, I'll probably order things from here on their website; however, I'm glad that we came.
