I went in today with a poster that needed to be framed. The woman in the framing section helped me pick out an affordable frame, framed the poster, and even secured D-ring hangers on the sides (the place where I'm hanging it requires them). She did this all for the price of the frame and was very kind and pleasant. This saved me so much trouble and I really appreciate it. In the past, this Michaels seemed to have a staff shortage, and the checkout was a drag. I know the self-checkout isn't new here, but it has changed everything; it's fast and efficient, leaving the staff able to focus on helping the customers. This store can be hit or miss in their customer service department. I have been here many times in the past and never really got a warm greeting from anyone in the store. Sad but true. As those of us are familiar with arts & crafts, then we should know what to expect and what to buy. They have many selections of many things in their inventory. Prices change/varies every now and then; but, do have affordable discounted prices on a lot of their stuff. For instance I got 2 frames today for a great deal. One frame 9X12 & the the other one 16X20 & 8X10. The 1st one was $12.99 & the big one was $19.99. W/out tax. I needed some beads for decorative reasons and couldn't find any that I liked. In color and in style. During their Holiday Seasons they are fully stocked and all aisles are bursting with cheerful, happy colors, flowers, brands and more.. if you are not quick to grab what you need, it will be too late. Overall, not a bad experience, but they can for sure step up to the plate and help out their customers when we need help. I have had 2 pictures framed at their framing department in the past; and, they did an excellent job. So thank you for that! I have never had such a positive experience at any store in my life, and it is all thanks to Bill. Two days ago, I went in looking for a few supplies to make name cards. I ask Bill where the wax is, and he answered me in a sarcastic and playful way, all while two other people were asking him for help as well. I then asked him about a specific artificial flower and he helped me rummage through them, but they were ultimately not there. THEN, HE FOUND ME IN THE COMPLETE OPPOSITE SIDE OF THE STORE HOLDING THE ONES THAT I WANTED, AS WELL AS ANOTHER SIMILAR ONE. I told him that I did like one, and I went with him to get some more. During this time, he is also making funny remarks and keeping up banter. Bill is the type of guy that makes people feel like they have known him forever. Love this store! The store is very well organized and easy to shop. There weren't a lot of people employees around to assist and for some reason the lights in certain parts of the store kept going off! Other than that, it was very easy to find what I needed. I was happy that they still had some Christmas decor there for 80% odd and since I'm a member of their rewards program, I had a $5 rewards certificate that they had added to my account. Everything is already fairly priced and on top of that they have sales going on. Love the quality of items here as well. The parking is super easy with the underground garage although it can be a little tricky to find the store if you're not familiar with the strip mall. I am very upset with the late fee situation! 1. I was NEVER told that I can change the payment date. 2. The payment needed to be in by 5 pm Eastern time. I placed it before midnight on the fifth, which is the date and had to pay a late fee which they would not remove very frustrating enough for me not to shop at Michaels again.. My rating is entirely based on the yarn section. I was really hoping with the demise of Joann's and Michael's Purchase of the Joann's IP, that we would see much more. It's very disappointing so far. I really miss Joann's, as do al the crocheters and knitters I know personally. Hoping that things will change. No one in either of my nearby locations even knows anything about Big Twist and other yarns. I've been told, they are discontinued or they're not coming to the store, only online OR that they're not coming for another year.... I am hoping this changes. Also, Joann's had such good coupons! Miss that too! For now I'll be buying my yarns elsewhere. :( read more

Michael's is one of those stores that you go into when you want to purchase items to create art and/or other craft orientated items. Of course, they also have a very nice framing facility within each of their stores. All Michael's stores are in some ways the same, but they each have a unique set of items that other stores throughout the Los Angeles area may not carry. This being said, you will always be able to find the canvas, the paint, the paint brushes, and the other art orientated items that you will need at any one of their stores. The one thing I will say about this Michael's is that it feels a bit more confined than the other locations that I commonly go to. This store is located on the second level of the shopping plaza, so you have to take the escalator to get to it. Even in the open area between the escalator and the store itself, it feels kind of enclosed. When you go inside the store, there's no large windows, letting light in, as is common in most Michael's locations. I believe this is why the store feels more cramped and less bright, and free-flowing. This being said, it does not mean that they don't have all the stuff that Michael's is known for. So you'll be sure to be able to find what you're looking for. As it's always the case with all Michael's locations, the staff is always very nice, helpful, and willing to help you find and/or decide upon what you need. This is a great place to go when you need what Michael's has to offer. read more

Absolute worst service ever. i was waiting for help in the frames section and theres only one person who can work in that section and she happens to be on break and this 30 minutes before they close. Seems like there would be other works in that department since, idk, michaels is know for frames. Then im told shes back and to wait at the counter. Pretty Decent! Picked up some rainbow loom! Service was decent, nobody coming up to me or asking me if they could help me find something. But, in the end they showed me wear to go! There was quite a selection, but not as much as from a few years back when rainbow loom blew up! They also did not have the Autoloom. The one thing I needed, but still picked up some great stuff! It was ranged at a pretty good price! Not to bad! The kits ranged from about $9.99-$21.00. Overall, pretty decent experience. But could be better. read more

Fellow embroiderers: their DMC floss selection is about 1/3 of what it is at other locations. I came here specifically to pick up a color I needed and they didn't have it. Unless you know they carry what you need, it's not a good idea to come here for floss. Very disappointing selection. Overall, it's a pretty small store and I'd extrapolate the same reduced inventory to other departments. Their parking lot is really small too and shared with other businesses (including Marshalls). There's only one entrance/exit so it can get pretty hectic and stressful. There is a garage for additional parking but I haven't used it. I intend to avoid this Michael's as it's not ideal for my needs. Just be aware that their inventory is reduced as compared to other locations so it might be worth it to drive elsewhere. read more

I wanted to get some frames in colors, for office wall decoration. Found some and ordered online. So far so good. I ordered 7 frames; 3 of one color, 2 of another color and 2 of a third color. 3 days later I received 2 packages by UPS; 1 with 1 frame in it (one I had ordered), the other package was audibly noisy with the sound of broken something. The UPS delivery guy turned in a damage report about it. I called Michaels and it took a long time to get someone on the phone. Then it got worse. The person I got on the phone spoke passable English, not great. I'm not multi-lingual. I wanted to report that I had a package with broken things inside and didn't want to open it. And, I wanted to know the status of my order delivery. The phone rep took a long time to understand why I was calling and never told me the status of my order delivery. Instead, he said he was sending me an email and want me to open the package with broken stuff in it, take pictures and attach the pictures in reply to his email. When I opened the package, it had 1 other frame in it and the glass was shattered. I cut my index finger opening up the bubble wrap which was (predictably) full of glass shards, so I could take a picture of the shattered frame they sent me. So, to sum up, I ordered 7 frames...got one I ordered, got another broken one I ordered, got a cut finger following the customer service instructions trying to get my order sorted out, and didn't get 5 of the seven frames I ordered at all. I suspect I'm going to have to now spend quite a lot of time getting their shattered product back to them and still no idea where the other 5 frames are. Not a happy customer. Not going to trust these guys again. I've been able to open the dangerous package, cut my finger and treat it, take pictures and write this long account...and the guys email still isn't here. read more

Disappointing experience and horrible customer service. They had a buy one get one free frame promotion, and I painstakingly picked out two frames that were not on clearance to confirm that the promotion would apply. Then, at checkout, the promotion was not scanning properly on the register. After I showed them the promotional sign, confirmed the frames qualified, and they agreed to give me the discount -- they spent 15 minutes trying to override the register. Only to change their mind and decide not to give me the advertised promotion. I have been a loyal customer for years and am truly disappointed this is how this location would treat a customer. Even if the promotion was incorrectly advertised, at that point, you should just honor the customer -- and fix your signage after. read more

How have I not reviewed Michael's yet? I love this location. The store is a good size, they have ample selection, they have a good number of staff members who for the most part are quite helpful. There isn't a whole lot NOT to love. They have an Aaron Brother's frame shop here as well, which I have never used, but it's good to know. Now, this location DOES NOT have fabric. I don't know any Michael's that do carry fabric, but that seems to be a point of confusion for some. There is also a shared underground parking lot. This is really the only detraction for this location. The parking lot is a mess. It's nice that it's there, but it's difficult to get in and out of, it can be hard to find parking, and I always feel like I'm going to get into an accident. Definitely your best bet for craft supplies in the studio city/Sherman Oaks area. read more

Ivan was busy in the back but took the time to come out and help me. Not only did he pick out the frames and everything to go with them but he helped me by mounting one of them very quickly as I was taking it as a gift and I needed it done right now. Horrible framing experience. I had two valuable paintings framed that had certificates of authenticity. These guys lost one of the certificates. While I typically don't need help or assistance, I wasn't familiar with the layout of this Michael's as it was my first time coming to this location. I'm sure not every cashier here is like this, but the White passing older female behind the counter ignored me from between 7-10 minutes as I stood at the counter. I finally had to say, Excuse me, I don't want to walk out with this merchandise, but I have not received any acknowledgment from you for me to complete the purchase. She had walked back and forth in front of the counter during those 7-10 minutes finding things to place and replace in different areas behind the counter. She pointed to the self checkout which was directly behind me; I hadn't seen any signs pointing to it, I've never been referred to use it before; and I've never seen or used before. I've been to this Michaels about 8 times in the last several months. My past experiences here have been pleasant and past employees have always waved me over and taken my purchase. She said, "Unless you have cash," I said, I do-she took my cash, completed the purchase at her own pace, then placed the cash on the counter instead of handing it to me with a pained look on her face. She asked me if I wanted a bag and I said no. She the said, have a good day. I said. "You too. I understand customer service can be stressful, but when you openly ignore a non white person for 7-10 minutes, it looks bad on the store, and shows that the store's employees are not trained in diversity equity and inclusion and feel comfortable mistreating customers who are not white. Please, management, hire employees who respect people of all backgrounds, ethnicity and differences. Don't reward damaging behavior that enforces mistreatment of customers because it is a direct reflection of management and their values. read more

I'd done curb side pick up at the Encino location and noticed this much closer to me location was now open. I placed an online order for a couple of little baking supplies to make a cookie monster fudge (candy melts, eyes etc.) and when I showed up to pick up and called, they didn't seem much like they wanted to come out with my order. Odd. They said they were a door side pick up, but online didn't mention anything about this. I wouldn't have cared much to get out and pick up except the parking is a disaster at this complex and they are on the second level. I was also a disgusting wreck from the gym and super sweaty, I felt them running out one bag wouldn't be a huge deal. They said I'd need to wait a while, which was fine I guess then they came right out with the bag. Not entirely sure what the deal is here, but they are open so... if you need anything you can just go right in or order but know you'll need to deal with the parking situation if you drive here. My cookie monster fudge came out so cute so I suppose the confusion on their part as to whether or not they are a curb side pick up location was worth it to me in the end. read more

There are always specials on 2 for 1 art tablets and sometimes other things. They also have frames... things for scrapbooks, and and a helpful if not such a knowledgable stafff. read more

Review is for the Framing Department: Eric has helped me on two occasions for a cracked glass replacement as well as trying to change out mattes from an old print that I got from FB marketplace. Megan was super helpful both times as well behind the scenes in the workshop area. There were new staples that were put into my cracked frame to hold the print and cardboard backings and Eric did the second frame for me since I had it there. Way easier to use than the old staples from the original! I asked what tool they were using bc it was like a staple gun, but I had never seen the metal framing shape before. Megan took the time to find it on Amazon for me. After three to four bending back and forth they can break off, so I wanted to know in case I needed to DIY in the future. The Framing Dept. is also under new management now and all of these employees are awesome! Will be back for sure! read more
