100% DK weight yarn :)

Within 10 seconds of walking in, one of the owners greeted me and asked what I was looking for. I searched all over the internet to find what I needed: weight 3 DK yarn, 100% wool, variegated. They had SO many beautiful options and showed me a few of their MANY options! They are a family business and they are all very kind. I've never received such amazing and knowledgeable service. People may say it's "messy" but I found it very fun to see all the unique yarn they had--plus if you just ask what you are looking for they help you navigate it very easily. I got these two beautiful skeins of yarn from Germany for $11 each. I'm planning on crocheting some fingerless gloves and definitely coming back to get some knitting lessons!

Edith helped me get the perfect yarn to finish this.

This wonderful yarn source is not only THAT, but the people who own it are kind, helpful, and old school about service and attitude. They are Edith and Merrill. Their son opened the store about 15 minutes early because I looked forlorn after my drive from Glendale to Studio City. Edith went around with me matching colors until she found exactly the right color. I am definitely buying all my yarn there from now on. They have a Knitting Circle table and you can sit down with other knitters and talk and get HELP. I am just starting back knitting from not doing it in 25 years, and this store is the perfect answer to...." Now, How do I do that stitch again?" Thank you Edith and Thank you Merrill and Warren. Terrific Experience. Here is a picture of what I am making now.

Yarn wall!

This yarn shop is AMAZING! One of a kind in Los Angeles. They have everything you could ever need, all very high quality and reasonable price. And they have a massive warehouse of quality yarn. The service is fabulous, the owners of the store are so sweet and knowledgeable, nobody else like them! My new favorite place! And you can come for free to ask for knitting help and wind your yarn you bought in the store! I recommend this place a thousand times over.

As those of us are familiar with arts & crafts, then we should know what to expect and what to buy. They have many selections of many things in their inventory. Prices change/varies every now and then; but, do have affordable discounted prices on a lot of their stuff. For instance I got 2 frames today for a great deal. One frame 9X12 & the the other one 16X20 & 8X10. The 1st one was $12.99 & the big one was $19.99. W/out tax. I needed some beads for decorative reasons and couldn't find any that I liked. In color and in style. During their Holiday Seasons they are fully stocked and all aisles are bursting with cheerful, happy colors, flowers, brands and more.. if you are not quick to grab what you need, it will be too late. Overall, not a bad experience, but they can for sure step up to the plate and help out their customers when we need help. I have had 2 pictures framed at their framing department in the past; and, they did an excellent job. So thank you for that! Clean store, restrooms in the far back, also clean, and plenty of parking spaces shared with number of businesses. Located on the 2nd level right above Marshalls. Take the elevator or the escalator up/down. What goes up, must come down!:-)

Walk in here and you can smell the ambition, acrylic, and caffeine. It's like stepping into a time capsule where brushes still matter, ink still stains, and creativity doesn't come with a subscription fee. The value here and the prices were super reasonable. I came here with my draftsman, a guy who still draws by hand -- a dying breed in a world that runs on Ctrl+Z. Watching him walk these aisles was like watching a monk in a cathedral. Every shelf, every pen, every tube of paint is curated chaos. And the best part? The staff actually care. They know the difference between gouache and watercolor -- and they don't judge you for mispronouncing it. Friendly service, clean restrooms (a small miracle in Los Angeles), and a selection so deep it could inspire Picasso's ghost to start over. From sketchbooks to sculpting tools, markers to mat cutters, they've got everything you need to make something real -- or at least look like you tried. Blick's been around since 1911, and this Beverly Blvd location has kept L.A.'s art scene supplied through every phase -- from punk flyers to NFT hangovers. It's an institution, and it deserves to stay that way. Blick Art Materials is a love letter to real art in a copy-paste world. The service is friendly, the aisles are inspiring, and the supplies are top-notch. If you make anything with your hands, your heart, or even just a stubborn sense of nostalgia -- support this place. However, the pricing structure is poorly communicated. The board clearly lists "Phone Holder - $20" under Decoden Art, with no size descriptions or visual distinctions. Based on that, we reasonably assumed the bunny phone stand we selected fell under that category -- because it is, in fact, a phone holder. Even the staff member assisting us was under the same impression. We spent several hours decorating our items based on the $20 price we were told. Only after we finished were we informed that our item was actually $45, and that the $20 "phone holder" supposedly refers to a much smaller grip-style piece. That distinction is not explained anywhere on the pricing board. There is also a "Phone Holder with Key Chain" listed, yet our item did not match that description either, which makes the pricing even more confusing. While the staff were understanding about the confusion, the manager refused to honor the price that was communicated to us and stated that our only options were to pay $45 or leave the item behind. There was no attempt to meet us halfway or acknowledge that the signage itself is unclear. If you're going to advertise pricing, it needs to be clearly defined. This situation could have been avoided entirely with proper labeling and better management handling.

I've been in the morning as well as before closing. It's always busy. Guess it's a good thing on their part. Like mentioned, I don't recommend coming in for the last minute holiday decorations. You would think as it's early in December, they'll have some things left over. Well, majority of things are gone. Loads of the isles have been cleared already. I've even seen some employees taking down the fixtures already. It's good for them but if you're looking for the decoration, I do recommend coming early. Like a month or so. They have them out early and most are on sale. It's still half off for Christmas items. You'll still get things there as they have random stuffs. But majority of holiday items are gone. I don't know if they'll restock anything now but if you're not looking for something particular, I'm sure they'll have it. It's also a store that literally carries everything. It's basically a Joann's, Michael's and a Home Goods all under one roof. There's everything that you can want or need in a craft store of such. Also, why is it that all the store seems to be short with cashiers. There's always a massive line in the store and there's like 3, maybe 4 cashier. If you coming, just make sure not to be in a rush. But I'm sure you'll end up leaving with one thing or a cart of things. They alway do have amazing discounts.

Carter Sexton Artist Materials is located in Los Angeles' San Fernando Valley within the Valley Village/Studio City area and resides on Laurel Canyon Boulevard/just a beat down from Chandler Blvd and the Laurel Canyon Metro Station for the Orange (aka G) line. It's got lots of fun nooks and crannies with great materials, supplies, service and sales (including 40% off, clearance items and more). It was easy for me to follow a lot of their played out pricing for canvas (10 years in retail, though it's been almost 10 years since I walked away from it and yet still retain so much lol). I ventured into the "Come (On) In" area and discovered some complimentary artist guides, incredible artwork and extra items I was seeking for a sketching event I hosted over the weekend. Love coming in on Saturdays, though it's been several months since I was last in, hoping to change that, check out more of their events, including some great some shows this holiday season like their Medley. I don't have much to submit by their deadline, but highly recommend you do if you're an artist, aspiring artist or creative. They definitely are neighborhood feel with some cool regulars. Caught some warming interactions and references to Cheers (the 80s to early 90s series) between the staff and a really nice returning customer. I'm not sure if Kelli was there when I stopped in, but I've had some greatest response with her in the past online when inquire about things. Everyone is super knowledgeable, mindful and respectful. Ready to assist, but also let you take your time exploring and feeling out all they have to offer. Street parking primarily with a 1hour limit from 8am to 6pm. Some limited spaces in their back alley parking, that I'm sure is super great for their staff/ the Carter Sexton family. Its first come first serve, but you might get lucky. Open from 10am to 6pm Monday through Saturday weekly with some variations for holidays. A must whether a local, passing through or seeking out a small biz to support that does great things for the area, and showcasing a spotlights artists of all walks of lives and ages. Even Bob Ross on display wants you to check out this great supportive Art spot. "We don't make mistakes, just happy little accidents."

Also, it fosters community, hosting monthly art exhibits which local artists can submit to. The prices are very reasonable. The staff are helpful and kind. Each month's exhibit has a theme, and there's always an opening reception. Unlike many art shows, Carter Sexton's shows don't ask for money just to submit your work. Only if your work is accepted and you choose to participate do you pay a modest fee ($15) which is a great deal, because the shop clearly spends a lot of time making placards for each piece with the artist's name and mini-bio, and then hanging the work. You can sell your exhibited work and/or sell prints of it. I'm so grateful for the community this place fosters!
