Part of going downtown specifically this area is that you need to know that parking is about $20…read more(signs are deceiving) but I won't focus on that - it's not my first time here I somehow always end up in the same upper parking lot that I always get into. While in the area might as well check the stores. We went here specifically for fabrics. My son is into sewing right now so this place has a wide selection of different types of fabrics. They also have accessories. Are they cheaper - maybe/ maybe not but my son wanted to see fabrics so that's why we are here. He picked up some items and accessories he needs, we also got a roll of pattern paper and a yard of fabric he will use to "practice with" Service is easy - pick a fabric and bring it to the table and they'll cut it for you. Spent $80 on a bunch of stuff. Let's see if my son actually makes something out of it. He did enjoy looking and browsing over their fabrics and accessories.

There are so many beautiful selections at this store, but i feel that the DTLA branch has way more selections than this one. Being that i live so far away and don't go to this area often, i had to pick as many selections as i could. The guys are super, super nice and extremely helpful and patient!! I spent 2 hours (yes, TWO hours) walking around trying to find the perfect selections for my projects and i finally found something i liked. Walked out w almost $400 of fabric, which i ain't trippin bc you can't just find these types of print just about anywhere. Overall, i am extremely happy w my purchase and i love my island print fabric!!

When I first arrived there was a super long line just to get fabric cut. I decided to shop for a while until there were only two people in line. They are really good at getting everyone through as quick as possible and had over 6 people just cutting yardage. After you get your fabric cut, you go to a second line to pay, but I only waited about 2 minutes. I guess just timed it right. HINT: they have the full price fabric up by the front door. Skip that and head to the piles of fabric towards the side and back of the store. The only thing I couldn't find there was on brand fabrics like Hello Kitty and the Nightmare Before Christmas. As if their prices weren't low enough, they have a bargain area in the back of the store with even lower prices and other specialty materials like vinyl. Plenty of parking as well.

The store has a wide selection of fabrics and it can be a bit overwhelming, but with patience you will surprise yourself with your findings. He is an absolute angel. Not only is he personable, kind, and always in a cheerful mood, he goes above and beyond to help. My story is a one of urgency and despair when I went back for more of the same specific fabric (it couldn't be any other fabric) but I couldn't find it. I was on a tight deadline and didn't have the time to order it. He dedicated himself to help, offering options, looking into getting it from the NY location, searching every square inch, for a very long time, until he found it. Most people wouldn't go the extra mile with kindness. He saved me. He's very knowledgeable and even blesses the fabric for you. Shopping with him is a blessing in itself, I'd say.

I hate to say I will be traveling here often but with no Joann fabrics we're left with downtown LA. And I'm not crazy about going downtown LA with a 85 year-old.. international silks and woolens had everything I needed and wanted if I could give them 10 stars I would. The gentleman that assisted me was extremely helpful and had knowledge on his materials..

They even had some fabrics that were sold out online, which was such a fun surprise! They do still require masks, but they have free masks inside made from their own fabrics, which I thought was adorable. My mom has been getting into embroidery and learning how to sew, and she loved the community feel here. She's already sad we don't have something like this back home in Vegas Definitely worth visiting if you love fabric, sewing, embroidery, or just cute creative spaces!

Alright, Sewing Arts is my fabric store - my go-to, my happy place, my "I swear I'm only getting…read moreone thing" (lies!) spot. I could not be more thankful that this gem exists AND that it's conveniently close to my main work location. I've quilted on and off since 2008, but when I moved to LA in 2016, my sewing machine and fabric took very, very long naps. When my boss announced she was pregnant, I knew I wanted to make her a baby quilt. After hours of Googling fabrics, I walked into Sewing Arts thinking I knew exactly what I wanted. HA. Jokes on me. In fact, jokes on me every single time I walk in thinking I know what I want. Contrary to some of these other reviews, the ladies at Sewing Arts are some of the kindest, most patient humans I've ever met. Even when I'm standing there overwhelmed by *gestures broadly* literally everything, they're endlessly helpful. Sewing Arts was my introduction to Ruby Star Society, which has since become my absolute favorite modern fabric line. I swear they carry every bolt from every collection (until it sells out). The selection is remarkable! There's also a bountiful selection of patterns, notions, materials (quilting cottons, linen, rayon), cross point kits, etc. etc. And the best part? The community. On my very first visit, Kathleen asked if I knew about the local quilt guild. I didn't at the time but now the Los Angeles Modern Quilt Guild (LAMQG) is what I lovingly call "quilt club," and I look forward to every monthly meeting (held at Sewing Arts!). The guild nights even come with a lovely member discount on fabric... dangerous for my wallet but wonderful for my soul. The only downside for me has been their long-arming service, which I've tried twice with less-than-great results, especially for the price, so I won't be going for a third try. Also, masks are still required, which you'll see mentioned in many reviews but the owners stand firm on the policy and even provide free masks at the door. There are a plethora of classes also available here (garments, quilting, etc.) so whether you are a beginner sewist, an expert, or somewhere in between - there's likely a class for you! All that to say, Sewing Arts has truly given me both inspiration and community. Five stars forever!!!

If you're a label whore they have designer fabrics as well...Balenciaga, Versace & lots of designer denim as well. The sales people are all very knowledgeable. Zoey helped me out today. She really knows her stuff and was so informative. She was very patient helping me to decide what textile was best for the project I was working on. She was also super friendly and seemed to like her job a lot. I hope to see her again next time I'm there. They also carry my fav, Liberty, gasp! Their selection is unmatched. You want to be dripping in "diamonds" they have that fabric in MULTIPLE colors. You want Missoni like prints but don't want to pay Missoni $, they have an abundance. If you have all the time in the world, don't mind hopping from shop to shop, paying for expensive parking, and speak multiple languages to be able to communicate, the garment district is your best option. Yes the prices are higher here than the garment district, but you're paying for extreme convenience. Everything is all in one place, parking is plentiful and free , they stay open much later than the garment district, they have a points program, they have free patterns if you sign up for their newsletter. They also have a selection of trims, notions, buttons, and they have a HUGE selection of upholstery fabrics as well. The biggest problem with this shop is that there's TOO MUCH GOOD STUFF!

The store itself had everything you could possibly be looking for, for a sewing project or anything related. Their selection of trims was incredible and they also had patches and other items, yarn as well. They also had many many rolls of different types of fabrics, and they also offer clothing modifications. The best part, in my opinion, was their shop dog, who was so incredibly friendly I spent more time petting him than I did browsing around the store. He was standing right outside of the store, so if you're wary of dogs , even though he's so friendly, it is good to note. The store is right on Lincoln Blvd and the parking situation might be difficult if the front areas of the store already have cars there. There is a small lot next to the store but it might be reserved for the restaurant next door. I parked in the residential area right next to the store, so I did not notice if the lot was specific to the restaurant only. The staff was very helpful and friendly as well. Was fun to just browse all of their items and it was nice to have a dog to pet!
