Not just a great selection of fabric- lots of Poly accessories too!

Thanks again, fellow Yelpers! Would have never found this place without these reviews! Located in a pretty bad part of downtown LA at the tail end of the Flower District, Island Fabrics is thee place for Hawaiian print/tropical fabric! I went early and got street parking right in front of the store (the meters take quarters). But there are lots/places to park of lots nearby. Be forewarned that there are tons of homeless nearby and it's pretty dirty in this area! But the shop itself is great! I've never seen a shop that carries the selection and variety IF does! Huge selection of Hawaiian/Samoan/Tongan prints. Also LILO & Stitch/Moana fabric! Most of the forces ranged from $6.99-$9.99 a yard, but most of the fabric is on the long tubes (not on bolts like @ Joann's) so you're getting significantly more fabric for your dollar. They also sell off the bolt & it's still way cheaper than prices at a regular fabric store. They also carry solid prints ranging from $1.50-2.50 a yard if you need contrast colors. There's also a selection of Polynesian accessories and they sell printed fuzzy blankets in the back. Definitely worth the trip out here! Will definitely be back!

I grew up on the big island in Hawai'i and currently work at an Asian & Pacific Islander Cultural Center. As part of my job, we create and giveaway stoles to celebrate students graduating from college. However, when I first started the job, I looked online for companies that created custom stoles for the community and was limited to selections of "Hawaiian" fabrics that looked touristy and inauthentic so I didn't feel comfortable using them for our graduates. I was so happy to find Islands Fabric and another local company to create our own stoles for the community. This store has a large inventory of materials that represented a wide array of island cultures (Hawaiian, Samoan, Chamorro, etc.). The people working were super helpful and patient as I looked through fabrics that best fit what we were looking for. I ended up buying a couple different options that we plan to use both for the graduation stoles but also for furniture and decorations in our center once students are able to come back. Highly recommend going to the store versus looking online because their selection is much better in person. It was kind of a long drive from where I was coming from but very worth it. Definitely recommend and will be coming again in the future!

No way you can scan the patterns and exit this place without a smile on your face. Even out into the grim and grime of DTLA in summer. Seriously, try it. Happened to meet Alen the owner once and offhandedly told him that I was disappointed by his Carson location because of the staff there (i.e., they seemed to prefer staring at their phones to helping customers). Let's just say he was very receptive and gracious about it, and (although unnecessary) made things right. At least three rooms in my home wear curtains from Island Fabrics. Their patterns are fun and fantastic. If Martha Stewart ever breaks into my house and gives them a disapproving look, well, joke her.

After a few weeks of searching different sites for fabric, I came across Island Fabrics. I choose to order from here because I liked their selection and organized website to sort thru different types of islander fabric. Im glad I ordered fabric from here- nice selection and quick shipping!

I use these to make throw blankets for the holidays

I absolutely love these guys. I purchase all of my sports fleece from Island Fabrics, from football to baseball, hockey teams and college. Great prices, great customer service. If they don't have what you need they will tell you when they can get it in. Oh yes and tons of beautiful Hawaiian luau material. Just beautiful prints. Like I said this place is where you want to go.

Store front Best deals on island fabric in town!!

Great place to go for fabric. Very clean and very organized. Some of the other fabric shops near by is to crowded with stuff people don't want to buy. If your in LA and looking for cheap quality fabric, then look no further!

I came here looking fabric for my pa'u skirt. Lots of choices from retro print, colorful/ trendy, traditional, etc. they have a huge selection of fabrics....more than what I expected looking at Yelp pictures. And I was pleasantly surprised! I paid $5 a yard for my cotton print. I parked on the street (meter). Plenty left of parking on Saturday around 3:30. I gave them a four star because they closed one hour earlier than posted. I felt super pressured to find my print!! So stressful trying to find something in 30 minutes!! Very unexpected!! But yeah I was able to find my print and very happy with it!! So if you need to find an island printed fabric...this is your store :)

Think we found our Hawaiian print

I can't even deal. Most massive selection of Island Fabric in the universe. Drove up to the Fashion District from OC to find fabric for an inlay on my surfboard. Someone pointed me to the direction of this store and it was exactly what I was looking for. Staff super helpful too! My board looks gorgeous. I can't even describe. The fabric was PERFECT. They have all types of hawaian and tribal prints and if that's what you are looking for you will defintiely find it with excellent customer service as well.

Happy customer

Had to take a road trip out here for this place! Oceanside to LA on a Saturday is not quite the best idea because of good ole summer traffic but somehow walking in here was all sorts of amazeballs! They have countless yardage of beautiful Polynesian fabrics-I was in heaven! Prices range anywhere from $2 to $10 a yard and as far as bartering-it can work. Alan the owner gave us an awesome deal we couldn't resist-we bought a good 30 yards of beautiful tribal fabric needed for a project. I was extremely pleased with the customer service here and impressed with the cleanliness of the store. I'll definitely be back in the future!!!

I took a wrong turn walking down on Wall Street in Downtown LA, and found this place by mistake. In a way, it was like a making a trade on stock you don't know anything about, and then doubled your money on it. Even thought I'm from Hawaii, I realize this place was very impressive as soon as you walk through the front doors, and see a few hundred Hawaiian fabric patterns lining the stores walls. I never seen this much floral and Hawaiian designs since the Old Hilo Hatties factory on the Big Island. The owners are very cool, and let me take a few pictures inside of their store. From what I found out, the owners are one of the biggest retailers of Hawaiian prints, and have a online store too. Also Island fabrics are one of major suppliers of Hula Halaus around the world for their fabric needs.

I know where I'm going!!

Such a cute sewing and fabric store! The employees were so friendly, welcoming, and helpful. It was…read morehonestly addicting looking through all the fabrics, and it was so hard not to want to buy everything. They even had some fabrics that were sold out online, which was such a fun surprise! They do still require masks, but they have free masks inside made from their own fabrics, which I thought was adorable. My mom has been getting into embroidery and learning how to sew, and she loved the community feel here. She's already sad we don't have something like this back home in Vegas Definitely worth visiting if you love fabric, sewing, embroidery, or just cute creative spaces!

Alright, Sewing Arts is my fabric store - my go-to, my happy place, my "I swear I'm only getting…read moreone thing" (lies!) spot. I could not be more thankful that this gem exists AND that it's conveniently close to my main work location. I've quilted on and off since 2008, but when I moved to LA in 2016, my sewing machine and fabric took very, very long naps. When my boss announced she was pregnant, I knew I wanted to make her a baby quilt. After hours of Googling fabrics, I walked into Sewing Arts thinking I knew exactly what I wanted. HA. Jokes on me. In fact, jokes on me every single time I walk in thinking I know what I want. Contrary to some of these other reviews, the ladies at Sewing Arts are some of the kindest, most patient humans I've ever met. Even when I'm standing there overwhelmed by *gestures broadly* literally everything, they're endlessly helpful. Sewing Arts was my introduction to Ruby Star Society, which has since become my absolute favorite modern fabric line. I swear they carry every bolt from every collection (until it sells out). The selection is remarkable! There's also a bountiful selection of patterns, notions, materials (quilting cottons, linen, rayon), cross point kits, etc. etc. And the best part? The community. On my very first visit, Kathleen asked if I knew about the local quilt guild. I didn't at the time but now the Los Angeles Modern Quilt Guild (LAMQG) is what I lovingly call "quilt club," and I look forward to every monthly meeting (held at Sewing Arts!). The guild nights even come with a lovely member discount on fabric... dangerous for my wallet but wonderful for my soul. The only downside for me has been their long-arming service, which I've tried twice with less-than-great results, especially for the price, so I won't be going for a third try. Also, masks are still required, which you'll see mentioned in many reviews but the owners stand firm on the policy and even provide free masks at the door. There are a plethora of classes also available here (garments, quilting, etc.) so whether you are a beginner sewist, an expert, or somewhere in between - there's likely a class for you! All that to say, Sewing Arts has truly given me both inspiration and community. Five stars forever!!!

The store itself had everything you could possibly be looking for, for a sewing project or anything related. Their selection of trims was incredible and they also had patches and other items, yarn as well. They also had many many rolls of different types of fabrics, and they also offer clothing modifications. The best part, in my opinion, was their shop dog, who was so incredibly friendly I spent more time petting him than I did browsing around the store. He was standing right outside of the store, so if you're wary of dogs , even though he's so friendly, it is good to note. The store is right on Lincoln Blvd and the parking situation might be difficult if the front areas of the store already have cars there. There is a small lot next to the store but it might be reserved for the restaurant next door. I parked in the residential area right next to the store, so I did not notice if the lot was specific to the restaurant only. The staff was very helpful and friendly as well. Was fun to just browse all of their items and it was nice to have a dog to pet!

The man working…read moreat the register, who may have been the owner, screamed at a woman and forced her to leave after overhearing her speaking about being Israeli with another person . His behavior was enraged, hostile, threatening.and very scary . The most horrifying part was when the woman asked him, "Are you kicking me out because I am Jewish and Israeli?" and he answered, "Yes, you are proving my point." That was not a misunderstanding. That was blatant antisemitism and discrimination. He was so aggressive that I genuinely feared he might physically attack her. I did not step in because the situation felt dangerous. What I witnessed was open antisemitic harassment against a Jewish Israeli woman. It was disgusting, frightening, and completely unacceptable. No one should ever be screamed at, humiliated, and thrown out of a business because they are of a certain race or religion. A couple minutes following this incident, the woman returned and politely asked to pick up her belongings which she left at the store probably due to her fear of being attacked . When the worker saw her - he became enraged and screamed at her to leave - refusing to give her - her staff. She said she will call the police and the man replied "i don't care - call whomever you want" She once again said she is calling the police and complaining about his business to the city and he finally gave her what she forgot when he kicked her out of the store . I am still shocked and shaking thinking about it, and I will never return. I hope this lady file a police report because this was clearly a hate crime and the store worker is also violating
