Had just a fantastic experience! First time ever going in there and was overtaken by how much awesome stuff was in this store! Was there shopping for a birthday present for an artist friend and know absolute diddly squat about paint and that is when a hero with braids appeared to save the day. I never caught her name but she made quite the impression on this experience and if I got her name I'd shout her BIG TIME because I wouldn't have got everything I needed if it wasn't for her assistance...TOP TIER customer service. First time going in Blick's & I love this store. Didn't think it would be a kid friendly place. However, this is an amazing spot to find kid's art supplies and kid's art books. What makes this store way better than most larger art retailers is the associates are artists and actually know about the products. Lou helped me and she was amazing. Feeling Fall creative and wanted to pop in to this little big spacious Art Supply store for some new drawing essentials. I found plenty including some post "back to school bargains"... really just a lot of good deals at Blick Art Materials...aka B.A.M.! Buy more, save more! Their clearance and current sales are wonderful. Additionally you can place orders for pickup and/or for delivery/shipping (free shipping on orders of $59 or more... so go wild). Aside from an endless art tools, supplies, and beyond... Blick caries some great gift items and sets for painting, drawing, molding and even fun games, puzzles as well as miscellaneous items.... Definitely have seen some fun things for my niece and nephews as the holidays approach. Ringing up is super smooth, friendly and helpful. I signed up for their Preferred Customers Program (which I recommend), even better if you're a frequent shopper. Teachers and students get an extra 10% purchases! Q Tip: I can't speak much for parking from a personal experience perspective as I've only been here twice and both times gone green on the Metro, however it's a mix of city and residential streets (metered stuff or limited/restricted street parking) surrounding the corner of Beverly Blvd/Poinsettia Place, where Blick Art - Los Angeles/Fairfax resides... Some more business based parking behind the building (read signs for restrictions). I know they do have their own private underground parking lot just off Poinsettia. I love a good art supply store. Dick Blicks are always good. This one is so much nicer than the one in Pasadena. When we walked in I could see gallery art on the walls. How nice! They had a huge selection of gifty type toys and funky things beside all the good art supplies. I bought done marbled paper, calliope's and some cool postcards. read more

I ordered 3 Blick Floater Frames and recently received (and returned) them. These were, hands down, the poorest quality frames I have ever seen. They were chipping and the finish was awful. At first I thought I might be able to touch the paint up, but as I looked them over between the chipping and cracking and the awful quality of the finish I realized they were unsalvageable. I resent that I had to spend my time and effort to even open the box, let alone to repack and take it to Fedex. I finally figured out why these white frames were awful. They had been repainted, poorly. When the paint flaked off black was revealed. ? Then I understood: some clown sprayed these black frames white, but they didn't sand or prime the surface. That explained everything. Who does that? I also thought their customer service would be more apologetic. They handled the complaint and the return dispassionately, almost as if they hear it all the time. The pictures are of the frames with the three paintings I once hoped to sink into them. The more you look the more defects you see. I gave up! So.....never again. read more

Great place for art supplies. Many brands in stock personally stopped by for grease markers and paint markers. Christina was able to help me locate the last of the Krink mops as well as some Solid Markers and even suggested an acrylic big marker for non run offs. Place is awesome and screams art even while just parking in their parking lot. Awesome place will definitely stop by when I am in LA again. They also have clean restrooms. BEWARE OF BEING TAKEN ADVANTAGE OF! Just had an absolutely horrible experience at the store. 2 days ago came to buy some supplies for a photo shoot and at some point, I assume when I left the counter for a second to grab something, I got extra $180 worth of stuff scanned to my account. Now my absolute bad, cos I was distracted thinking of the said photo shoot and did not check and just paid and did not see it until got the message from the bank, but I doubt the people did not know, since 2 people double checked all my items were in place and helped me pack them (which is also why I let my guard down and because I never had bad experience here before). Point being please be very careful and double check everything at this store, if you are buying multiple items (like multiple canvases in my case) they might try to charge you for stuff you are not getting and then just look you in the eyes and tell it's all fine. When I came back to try to clear it (with the receipt and all the stuff I got) I was just told there is nothing they can do, that manager did my purchase, so obviously a manager can do nothing wrong. They have cameras and could look up stuff, but of course they decided to just not deal with it and said they don't care. Not coming here again, this is not an experience I can afford to have again and not the level of decency that I want in my life. And to think I though this was a safe store for creatives. read more

And when I tried to address the rudeness all the management did was shake there head instead of acknowledging that there was a problem and apologize! Don't make excuses for your employee's rudeness!!!! Wrong is wrong!!! Don't get an attitude with people for no reason! If you don't want to be at Blick working then find another job. This is the cutest Blick Art in LA. I love this location because of the artwork all over the walls. It is a bit busier than other locations and smaller. Overall great facility that has everything you need. I recommend calling in to check if your product is there. They can put those items on hold for you up to 24 hours. Super cute location near the grove and across MiLK. Parking meters available and a super tiny uncomfortably tight parking lot below. I personally wouldn't feel comfortable parking anything larger than a compact car down there it's extremely tight. It's also the kind of parking where you're blocked in.. street parking is only a dollar for an hour, and it's way more spacious and convenient in my opinion. read more

The product selection and quality is excellent. I could spend all day, and all paycheck here had it not been for the staff I interacted with (and did not interact with). We live about 80 miles from the nearest Blick and have never been to a physical location. We decided to visit the Beverly Blvd location on Saturday since we were going to be in the area. We easily found parking, and got in the store. We brought a baby stroller with us, but probably should have opted to carry the baby instead. They fit a lot of inventory in a small space, so a stroller is a tight fit around some of the corners. While browsing the store, there were several people working and stocking shelves. The store felt like it was more crowded with people working than customers. I tried to stay out of their way, but was a bit bothered that not one said, "excuse me" or anything when they would try to get around me to wherever they wanted to do work next. I felt like I was in the way no matter where I was. I don't like feeling in the way, so we decided to go ahead and check out. We got in the checkout line and a lady opened a register and called us forward. We went to the counter, handed her our purchase, and she rung us up. I went to hand her cash, and she said her register could not take cash. So I pull out my debit card, I go to insert it into the chip reader, she says the chip reader is not working. I told her, "If you slide instead it will fire a fraud alert." Then she turned the terminal around and took my debit card and started sticking it in and pulling it out of the chip reader forcing it to fail, then slides the card. Declined. Yup, she locked up my debit card. Admittedly, I am frustrated here, but I am not irate or rude. I tell her that she just got my card locked. I ask why she called me up if her card reader is broken and she cannot take cash and she says, "Well that's what I get for trying to help you" and she walks off. The person at the next register calls me over to her and just explains it away as, "we're just really busy right now." She check us out, we paid, we left. Then I spent 45 minutes on hold with the bank who confirmed that it appeared as fraudulent activity and my card was locked. The things that stuck out the most about this experience were how apathetic the staff were to my family as customers and how when a problem was presented at the register, the cashier gave up and walked off and not once did a manager (or at least a real adult) show up to step in and help sort things out or apologize to us. I don't expect employees to kiss my backside and bow down while I am shopping or anything, but I think it is fair to expect people to demonstrate manners. read more

I needed to get some art supplies and while I was walking around I noticed a sign for paint markers that said: "mix-and-match buy one get one free. So I looked for black. I found two different kinds of blacks and went to the cash register. While paying for everything I asked the sales person if the markers are being ringed up correctly. I think I got feeling that something wasn't right from her demeanor. So, I checked my receipt when I got to my car. The pens were rang up each at full price minus around $1.60 each. Full price for each one was around $6.95. So I went back up and told the girl. Sorry, these weren't rung up correctly. These are supposed to be buy 1, get one free. She says well you were given discounts one each that must add up to the price of one. I said no way. She turns to another saleswoman and she says, there are supposed to be but one get one free. The other woman says: "oh it says there that black is excluded". I asked where does it say that? He first one asked: well you want to return them? I said not yet. I have to go see where that exclusion is written. So, I went to the pen s and I looked and I looked and I looked and I could not see the sign. So I went back to the counter and the two women had left and other people were coming on. The new guy saw my annoyed face while I was waiting to see who to talk to. This nice salesman said can I help you? I said yes and asked him to show me where it says black pens are excluded. So he looked and looked and looked and went on top toe and took his glasses off and held his face 2"s away from a faded red sign with faded minuscule white font and he said it's written here. I said what's the use of a sign no one can read? This is ridiculous. A sign that you have to read with a magnifying glass is not a legitimate sign. So the short of it is I had to stand in line again to return the two pens and get my money back. Around $12 saved. Ridiculously stupid. read more

I called to see if I could pick up an item locally I saw on their website. According to the site it wasn't available at that location. I asked if it would be possible to have the item shipped there from their warehouse. I was told they didn't do that. The clerk, a very pleasant young woman, suggested she might be able to arrange for the item to be transferred from a location in Utah, I believe it was. She told me she would look into it and call me back the next day, which she did. She was able to arrange the inter-store transfer and I picked up the item a few days later. Next customer service ever for such a modestly priced ($20) item. Well done. read more

The Blick on Beverly Blvd. in Los Angeles needs help with their customer service. Assistant Manager Christina could have been more helpful. General rule of thumb, if you don't have an item at your location, offer to call your other locations to see if they have them. That small gesture speaks volumes when it comes to helping out customers and helps the company sell more items. I would think an assistant manager would practice great customer service to serve as a model for their team... instead I got cold responses and a general dismissive attitude. Very bad customer service. I was told that there would be a 20% coupon at the front desk for me when I called yesterday. The manager on today (Friday July 10) was very rude and not helpful. I had to place an order on line, too bad because I do like to support brick and mortar stores. This is one of the best and most reasonably priced commercial art supply store chains in town. They have lots of sales and their staff knows much more about their stock than any other chain. Parking is under the building but its tight. There is street parking - and an AMAZING Italian restaurant 2 doors west. read more
