This place is pretty good for amateur artist supplies. The framer in the back does a great job too. But note that this store over charges for custom acid free Matt cutting. We checked around and they charge almost double the going rate. read more

Baller is a wonderful local business. I love the convenient location next to baller hardware. Staff is knowledgeable. Prices are not higher or lower than most other art supply stores. I've been a customer for 22 years. They've earned a review. read more

Great little shop. I needed glass replaced on an existing frame and even though they close up their frame setting at 4:45pm (shortly before they close) when I called the store attendant said I could at least drop it off. However when I got there she took one look and said- "oh this is easy" and got the fella in the back to quickly turn the order around in 5 minutes! I was so surprised and pleased. While waiting I saw they had a lot of great art supplies at a good price. They even have some funky art hanging on the wall to give inspiration on all the cool stuff someone can do, or if you are challenged with a pen you can buy the displayed art right there. Great little shop, no need to buy supplies on Amazon or target- go here!! read more

Great selection. All that the heart desires for your art projects. Very inspiring decor. Great staff. Helpful knowledgeable good customer service. For bigger projects and ambitious artist the hardware store is across the street. Love to shop at both. . read more

Great experience! I needed a new matte for a frame and print I had; the nice woman at the front helped me find one in the scrap box which the framer was able to cut on the spot for me. Super affordable + highly recommend! read more

Support your local businesses! Earlier this year, I purchased a vintage poster that I needed framed. Having taken another purchase to a frame shop in Mid-City that was recommended by the shop. I ended up paying an arm and a leg, for that job, so for my next poster, I decided to give Baller Art Ware a shot given it's right down the street from our house. I took it in, and the very friendly person at the front helped me pick a frame material, walked me through the process, and explained that they are very backed up, and it would take about 8 weeks to complete the job. They quoted me a very reasonable price, and I was in no hurry so I had them proceed. The framer called me a couple days later, concerned with some of the details of the job. He probably could've been a little friendlier on the phone, I've seen some reviews to that effect, but at the end of the day i appreciated that he just really wanted to do a good job, and do right by the vintage poster. We agreed on a path forward and that was it. At the end of the day, they set expectations for how long it would take, and they met their estimate, did a beautiful job with the frame, and charged a very fair price for the job. I couldn't ask for more and will be back next time! read more

Baller Art Ware - Custom frame - Art Supplies Near Me - Los Angeles, California

Great local art supply store and very helpful! The value is great and they have their own framing department.

Don't use this place to do your framing. The hardware store across the street is great. been going there for years. That's why I ignored the negative reviews for the framing services. I shouldn't have. I brought in an art piece that had been framed and matted, and asked them to duplicate the mat and frame for a second matching art piece. They put in a different color mat. Didn't match the cut or size of the mat. Didn't match the way the frame was hung. Baller: "sorry, we couldn't find a match." Then why didn't you call me and say so? I needed the piece for an art show. then I'll redo it somewhere else. Believe the reviews. The hardware store is great. The framing service is not good. read more

Such an amazing, local art store! The staff there are extremely knowledgeable. also they have a really nice frame selection I would support this place over a big box frame store, any day! I always love shopping at local art stores because the selection can be better and they can help you in a more in-depth way other than more "Big Box"craft and art stores. Plus, it's local & FAMILY-OWNED! read more

Baller is the only frame shop I use. They do immaculate work. The owner is also a very kind and talented artist whose paintings I adore. Highly recommended for all framing and art supply needs. read more

Not only can you get your art supplies here, there's a vast selection of related materials and mouldings for professional framing. We recommend using them for replacing old screens for your windows. We paid $23 per screen, completely made new. They also cut glass and plexiglass. Fast turnaround! read more

The staff here is so incredibly rude. I called to see when I could pick up my framed art, due today. The framer - who interrupted me twice in our short conversation - apparently didn't plan on having it ready today. "Come in at 5:30. We close then." I said I would try to make it. He said, "We're not gonna call you. Just come in." The woman at the front desk makes you feel like you're interrupting her day if you ask a question or want to purchase something. Rude! The only reason I did give two stars is that the frame job was pretty well done. However, I'll go elsewhere in the future. It's not worth the attitude. read more

Great local (to me) Art store. I mean, it has the art supplies I need so there's not much else to say. I'll just ad that it's across the street from the also-great Baller Hardware and right behind one of the best pizza joints in Los Angeles -- so there's also that! read more

One of the best art supply stores in Los Angeles. I always buy pens and paint here. My son is an animator and illustrator for Warner Brothers and my other son is a filmmaker and they both buy their supplies here. So do their collaborators. They do shop at other art stores, but this is the one they come to first, their "go-to" store. read more

Art store: just fine. FRAMING: not great. They are consistently late with their due dates, and there are 3 framing places that are better, more options, faster and significantly cheaper within a couple miles - "quick frame" in Atwater for example. I can't speak for all staff but one woman who works there is very rude and dismissive - not just to me but multiple of my friends. The hardware store across the street on the other hand - amazing!!! Truly. read more

I have died and literally gone to heaven and I don't even believe in heaven! Ooohhh the colors and products in this place. I didn't know where to begin so I started in the damn middle--then the back---back to the front---down the middle isle again. There were things here that I have never heard of. The staff--one gentleman was very nice and informative and very patient with my squeals of delight. I have told my other artist friends about this place and we plan to take a field trip back so be prepaaarrreedddd (in my Lion King Scar's voice) read more

The "5" star is for the service, no wait, it is for the caring! My wife had an odd size piece of art work to frame. We had tried many frame shops to no avail to find the correct mat size. So we stopped by at baller as it is close to our son's apartment for who the art work was for. We stopped in to ask if they had the size frame we were looking for. The answer was 'no" but instead of just letting us go, the lady asked if she could check the inventory of odd size frames to see if any fit, none did. Then she suggested we but a certain frame size, and return and she would cut/custom fit the mat. With directions in hand we found a frame size needed, returned and she did as she suggested, in fact, did something better! We loved it. Now, another story of customer service thats caring. As we were in line, a young mother holding a child in her hand, so she has one free hand, competes her transaction and now has to sign the credit card slip. Rather than letting the customer fumble with the flimsy card slip; she held it down so the customer could easily sign - thus being the second hand that was busy holding her 9 mo child. Caring, good customer service. Go and support this business. read more

I needed internal wood frames for already completed canvas'. My artwork needed to be measured. The woman behind the counter made no effort to clear space for my canvas and then, she handled my paintings so recklessly and carelessly that I had to stop her and roll them myself. The paintings represented months of work and she showed zero respect. When I asked about canvas sales, she said it was 50% off. I took my time to carefully choose a roll that would work but when I went to pay she told me only the prestretched canvas was on sale. it was all in all a sad experience. All I wanted to do was give my business to a local shop instead of the big box, one size fits all art stores. oh well. read more

Super cool art supply store with lots of great items. Sometimes the staff seem shy (not snobby) and sometimes they are outgoing and knowledgable. There was only one time I was rung up by a woman who was a little snobby, but every other time it's been pleasant doing business there. I enjoy supporting small businesses and Baller's selection makes this possible for me! read more

Carol is the absolute best!! I have had two very important pieces custom framed here and I could not be happier with the work. Carol was so attentive to my ideas and made some amazing suggestions... the quality of service and end result exceeded my expectations. Certainly there are cheaper places to have art framed, but none with the selection, quality and awesome staff. Thanks for making otherwise stressful projects easy peasy!! read more

Baller Art Ware - Art Supplies Near Me - Los Angeles, California

I just had my first experience with Baller Art Ware, and I wanted to lodge a good review for them here. I'm cooking up a small art project, and I needed something semi-unusual to make it work, so I called Baller, as they're the closest art supply business within a small radius of my home. I explained what I was looking for over the phone, and the woman helping me knew exactly what they had in stock that might work, and she gave me some options. I then drove over, made use of their small parking lot (a huge bonus in this neighborhood), and the same woman (whose name I neglected to get...) walked me directly over to the goods she'd mentioned on the phone. She was there to help, but without being intrusive, and without trying to sell me anything else that I wasn't after. I'd been pressed for time, too, but I managed to get in and back out within five minutes, total. I would absolutely return to Baller Art Ware for any art-related needs I might have in the future! read more

I'm all for supporting my local businesses, so I make the trek out to Baller Art Ware whenever I can. There's a great selection of art materials, from paints and brushes to 25-lb. bags of clay and wire mesh (the latter two being among my favorite media). Oh, and by the way, they'll cut the mesh to size for you and tie it up nice so that you're less likely to scratch your inner arms, as I am wont to do ;) Hehe read more

Picture frame glass cut cheap and quick. Friendly, knowledgeable staff, I don't even know that any other place would cut glass to fit random frame sizes like they do. Awesome to have Baller as a resource in the neighborhood. Hope they stay forever. read more

Jose is the best!! My husband and I had celebrated our 30th anniversary with a long-awaited trip to Italy. Our prized souvenir is a special watercolor of a Venice Canal. Because of my procrastination, upon our return I didn't allow for enough time to have it framed before the big day. I showed up the day before my anniversary, told my story to Jose, and was rewarded with the best customer service and most beautiful framed artwork I've seen in a long time. THANK-YOU so much, I'll be back and have already told all my friends :) Cathy read more

I recently got a large piece framed and it was done beautifully. Their pricing is competitive to other framers. The staff is supper nice. I'll only frame here from now on. I don't get all my art supplies here because they do not carry Copic brand markers and supplies and I'm okay with that. read more

I've never actually been to Baller Art Ware. I've only spoken to the clerk there. Her name is Carol Ann. She was very knowledgable as she is a fine artist in her own right. Best store in the heart of Silverlake and Los feliz village. My go to. Never walked out of their disappointed.

I'm not a huge fan of negative reviews, but this is necessary. I dropped off a poster to be framed on 4/21/2021, very simple nothing special just needed a decent frame for it. Unfortunately for me, I was charged almost $120.00 and they took about 21 days to finish it. I called multiple times to check in on what the status of my art piece being framed was and was told, "Just wait till we call you." Next time my advice to anyone here is just go to Aaron Brothers and save yourself a ton of money and time. read more

An eclectic little shop full of inspiring supplies. A few pottery tools for Mother's Day and I absolutely adore the wrapping papers they have in the back, exclusive and personal. The shop is tiny and Carol was helpful but didn't bug me when I just wanted to look around at everything (and take a few pictures!!). I like supporting the smaller neighborhood shops and this is a quick drive from downtown. They also support local artists. Thanks Baller. read more

You just have to check out the amazing Shepard Fairey mural on this building! I just bet the Los Feliz-based activist/artist gets a lot of his art supplies at this neat store. Lots of great fine art materials, and helpful people working here: call for Carol! She knows her stuff. They also do high-end, custom framing, and sell frames and matting. Across the street is the great Baller Hardware Store. Multi-tasking welcomed and encouraged: OBEY and HOPE: indeed! read more

Good supply quality; I've never been disappointed (though all I've really bought is acrylic paint and canvases). I have yet to find prices elsewhere that can compete with theirs while still matching the quality. Plus, it's a little local place, which I always like supporting. read more

I've been meaning to write this review for a horrible experience I had there a while back. My blood pressure rises every time I think of it. We had an original Banksy print that we wanted to have framed, and we went to Baller on a recommendation from a friend. The store clerk who apparently was doubling as the framing department laid out the print on the checkout counter which was the only counter available to lay out the art work. Some woman came and threw a bunch of art supplies on the print, scratching it. The store clerk and customer that scratched the print couldn't understand why we were appalled. The print had text on it that read "Sale Ends Today" which both the store clerk and customer argued with us wasn't even "art" so why were we so upset? WTF?! If you want your artwork ridiculed and damaged with no apology, this is your spot. Some people may argue whether Banksy is "art" or not, but isn't that besides the point?? And is it really up to the man at the framing place to decide? And why don't they have a separate place to lay out your artwork so things like this don't happen? And, and, and.... read more

I'm new to the art world. I went to a Yelp Elite Event a month ago that involved paint & wine - need I say more? I was bit in the ass by the paint bug, hard, and I've been looking to scratch that itch ever since. By the way of yelp reviews, I found this quaint little shop in the heart of Silverlake that I looked up in hopes of getting some acrylic paints and canvases. They have that and MUCH, MUCH more in this store! It's really like an art candy shoppe - everything from markers, pens, pencils, crayons, spray paint, chalk...and every type of paint imaginable along with a huge selection of mediums to choose from. They have an entire 'upper' level here dedicated to mediums - wood, canvas, paper, etc. It's pretty awesome..and slightly overwhelming if you don't know exactly what you're looking for. They also have a super cool selection of fancy printed paper - you could use it to wrap gifts for that special touch, line drawers in your kitchen, or even plaster right up on the wall as it's own piece of art. You also can't forget the giant selection of brushes; I got a basic starter set that came with 12 brushes for only 14 bucks - sounds like a steal to me. I was really impressed with the prices here - not nearly what I was expecting. Struggling artist who? The only downside was the lady up front seemed a little bored and wasn't exactly reaching out to help me or any one else passing through - but I overheard her answering a question when asked and was knowledgable. It was fairly hot the day I visited and towards the closing hours of the store - but the service did leave a little to be desired. I can deal with that, though would have been nice if the lady at the counter had been walking around and actually giving customer service because then maybe I would have learned something more about the paints I selected or the practice canvases I purchased. For the fairness in price, convenience of location, ease of parking, and hugely amazing selection of goods, I'll return again. read more

I went to and called several art supply stores looking for PanPastels and no one seems to carry them. Luckily I called Baller and the lady on the phone was very helpful. They do have PanPastels and she read off all of the color sets that they carry. When I went in to buy they were actually on sale for a pretty good deal. They also had a lot of the soft tools needed for the pan pastels. Over all it was a good experience and I am super stoked that I finally found an art store that carries PanPastels. read more

Baller Art Ware is located right across the street from Baller Hardware, and obviously has the same owners. I have learned to paint through mistakes and always have a lot of different questions. More often than not, a friendly voice in Baller has been able to help. Love Baller Art! I'm a graphic and interior designer so I'm constantly picking up Micron, Prismacolor, foam core, poster board and acrylic paints! They're my fave because it's a teeny store that actually has everything you could ever need!
