I took my husband's graduation photo and degree to Art to have them framed. He was very kind at first. I asked for a quote and he was very vague about it by not giving me a price upfront. This was the first red flag. He did offer to replace the portrait I chose for free in case we didn't like it. The frames turned out well. A week or so passed and we decided to replace the photo. It took about 3 weeks to get this done. I called each week to follow up and was confronted with a rather abrasive attitude. Today, I picked up the frame only to find out that he left the original photo inside the frame. He said it's mounted on and if I wanted to remove it, I could just do it myself. Weren't you the one who offered a free replacement service?? I didn't even bother fighting him about it because he clearly did not care. My favorite portrait of my husband is now locked in this frame. $400 for frames, poor customer service, and a shitty attitude from the store owner. Very unprofessional. Take your business elsewhere. This is the second time I came to this shop via my friends referral. It seems like the owner here as on days and off days. This time around, Art told me that he would text me with a quote by the next day. 2 weeks go by and we do not hear from him. 3 weeks later I pick up my print. The print is damaged. Luckily I took a picture of the poster at the print shop so I know that the damage was not originally there. When I talk to him over the phone, he is very defensive and enraged saying "how can you blame me! this is how it was!" I try to calmly let him know that I can show him a picture...and he hangs up on me. I am more than willing to support small businesses, but any business owner should treat their customers with respect and responsibility. He also does not follow through with his original quotes and will upcharge you, so be sure to double check how much he is asking for before you insert your card. Unfortunately, he has lost a client. I will not be returning back to his shop, and highly advise that you go elsewhere. read more

My friend and I decided to go in together to get our posters framed. Owner was initially quite friendly, closed his store 30 min early, but came back to service us. He had quoted us a certain amount and said he would reach out on Monday for a final quote. Couple days later I gave him a call as I did not hear back. When we spoke, his quote was slightly higher, but said it would be done within the next few days, which I was totally fine with. It wasn't until almost 3 weeks later (I hadn't had a chance to follow up) he called my friend asking her to confirm the color of our frames. I called him right away as my friend mentioned he thought my frame was Gold, when I had ordered Silver. This is where it all went downhill... I had called simply to confirm that my frame was SILVER and he proceeded to say he knew that it was always Silver, but that the one I wanted was on back order, but somehow it would be done the next day? (Which of course it wasn't) I didn't mind him mixing up the colors and just wanted to confirm it was done correctly as weeks had already gone by. He then starts yelling at me, even after I apologized if there was any miscommunication for him to be so angry with me. Even with me remaining calm and trying to de-escalate him, he hung up on me. When I tried to call back he would not answer, so I had to call him back from another number, which was a bad idea, because he continued to be aggressive with me. I was in such shock I couldn't even be angry-- I asked if I could just pick up the poster instead and he said I can, without it being framed, for the quoted price. I had never felt so threatened by a business owner and will not be back. The long lead time is one thing, but being misquoted on lead times, pricing, lying to customers, and yelling at them, is unacceptable. read more

U want to support small businesses but Art doesn't have enough staff to do this in a timely manner. I came in with a photo that needed matting. He gave me a good price so I paid cash in advance. At first he did it in a week but the sizing was what he preferred than what we discussed. 3 weeks go by and I inquire when I can come by to pick up the work -he texts me that he's slammed with a big job... doesn't make me feel like mine will get done at all. My purchase is a gift so there's a hard deadline and so when I pick up HE'S the one with the attitude! Lol! Doesn't even give me corner projectors or wrapping cuz he's being passive agressive with me. There's no point to be there and ask for this since he's the grumpy one so I left. He was able to help me pick out a frame that would look nice and had them finished in a week even though he was so busy. Would definitely recommend him and I'm for sure going back. BUT for my husbands birthday i wanted to frame a really important signed vintage poster. i live in silverlake and always pass by this place. im always like hmmm i wonder if they are expensive. being that i called like 10 other places and asked for quotes and they were ridic, i said why not lemme just walk in and see what it would cost. so i did. first of all the owner art is suppppper nice. i explained to him my situation and how i pretty much need to get this important poster framed and it needs to be the cheapest thing possible... and well he helped me greatly! he had some extra wood from a previous frame he worked on and gave it to me practically at cost! it was ready in like 2 days! i just picked it up and it looked awesome!! he even put acid free tape to fix parts of the old poster together. i will post a pic as well. i cant wait to surprise my hubby now! theres plenty of free parking in the back. he accepts credit cards as well. its very mom and pop and i love that. the big framing companies always wanna make as much as they can off you. but you wont see that here. i will be back to frame plenty more things!! read more

Art quoted me on a few different materials, and his price was competitive with or lower than any other store I called. I figured I'd support my neighborhood guy and went in to 4A. Art was super knowledgeable about the materials and what would look best with the colors of the poster, offering his opinion. He was interested in making the piece look good in the frame, not upsell me on stuff I didn't need, and was very friendly, which is a plus. As promised, the piece was ready a week later and it looks fantastic! The workmanship is very good and the owner's advice really helped. Bonus: spending any time in the store is an absolute pleasure thanks to Art, who has tons of great stories and factoids about LA. a framing place run by a guy named Art? obviously a winner. i'd bought a large print (45x30) on canvas that i wanted to get stretched onto stretcher bars, for hanging without a frame. i called a few places, but Art gave me a much better estimate than the others i tried. the parking lot is in back, and the place is essentially a little house that you enter via the back door. may seem a little sketchy to some people, but the place is like a cluttered creative workshop inside, and Art was friendly and knowledgeable (offering some specific recommendations for the type of wood and supports to use, etc). the job took longer than i expected, and cost very slightly more than quoted, but also came in looking better than i expected. the canvas had white on the sides of the stretcher bars, but he'd done a very clean job masking the edges with black tape; i hadn't asked for it but it looks much better than i'd hoped. would definitely return; i definitely prefer supporting this small business -- and waiting a few extra days for a job done creatively -- to spending twice as much at a corporate giant. read more

I love this place! I started coming here when I was a poor college student looking for a good deal. After an initial great experience with Art, I never stepped foot into one of those cheesy chain framing franchises again. Art gives you a fair price and still gets the work done quickly. Plus, his selection is great -- albeit a little dusty. :) I come here once every couple of months and still haven't come close to trying all of the different ornate frame options. My piece turned out really well thanks to the talented work done at 4A Frame. It was of a modern abstract painting and the store oner knew exactly how to make it look outstanding. I am very pleased with my decision taking the piece here. However, I was indicated wrong deadline several times. This affected my planning for when I would be picking it up. I do not mind if it take a couple weeks to make a piece look great, just was tedious keeping updated on new deadlines by having to call the owner almost every week based on when he would tell me it would be done. I really don't mind a delay but do mind having to track down the owner to find out about a delay and rather to be informed from him instead. The positives still outlay the negative though. While the owner was super friendly and helpful when I dropped off my pieces to be framed, I'm really disappointed with the service I got. The frames took 2 weeks longer than I was told they would take, and I had to call him multiple times to check on their status. When I finally got them they weren't the right color or the right size, and he didn't even have the right color in stock in order to fix the mistake. Business also has a bike repair sign and I stopped by, service was not so great, Art must of had an off day since everbody else thinks he is a great guy. Work done replace rear break pad and 2 spokes on back tire, parts total $26, gave me an estimate of $37, I thought great. I was originally told bike would be ready next day and after me bugging the poor guy it was ready 2 days later and charged me $72 so I guess he has a $46/hr rate... Another unpretentious, very reasonably priced and very personable framer in the Silver Lake-Los Feliz neighborhood - people, you don't need to go to Aaron Bros. Art framed two 10x16 prints for me for a little more than half ($265) the price I'd paid at Aaron Bros for a 16x20 ($452). And that included rustic frames that fit the images, museum glass, backing, hanging wire, and of course acid-free everything. He loves to talk, has a pleasantly messy shop, is a little disorganized (or was that day) - his credit card machine wasn't working so he scribbled down my CC number on a piece of paper, and I didn't get an invoice stating the price he promised - but the price I paid was the price he promised, and today he sent me an invoice and the CC receipt in the mail. He had the prints ready for me in about a week, which is extraordinary. Even my other two small favorite frame shops had a 2-3-week wait. And though he said he'd only been in business four years, I couldn't tell any difference between his work and Aaron Bros. or the other two excellent shops I was trying out. I thought that I'd probably find only one of the three was a keeper, but instead I'm keeping all three! These small businesses made me feel I could actually trust picture framers again, since I'd begun to associate them with plumbers and car mechanics. They told me it would take a week for them to frame a hand drawn poster. It was a very simple job should have taken a week noting hard. I called 3 times over 3 weeks and they would say they were busy and would call me back they never did. I had to go into the store and ask for my poster back because they would not be able to tell me when they would be done. I don't know what it is about frame places or maybe i just have horrible luck.. but seriously. I want to give this place a good review because Art is sweet and the vibe is charming but seeing as he seems to have moved into a bigger space, he's probably doing okay and I can put in my two cents. If you need to get your kids high school diploma, some movie poster, anything NOT fine art related framed, then this place is probably fine. The prices are pretty fair... i've gotten stuff framed here twice before and the first time was ok but the second time was awful. It was a small 8x12 photograph that required a white frame, no matte. It took a lot longer than it should have (about 2 weeks when they said 1 week) and when I came in the new assistant couldn't find my order. After some time she finally did and the framing job was very amateur: edges were not symmetrical and the corners had giant lines going through them that didn't properly line up. This was a print I sold to someone and it was so bad I had to throw it away, reprint it and send her just the print at a lower price because I had already wasted so much time getting it framed. In the end it cost me something like $40 and it was a waste of $ and time.. I nearly lost money on selling her this photo. BUT i hope he keeps getting business from non-fine art framing jobs and if he wants to continue to frame fine art then hopefully this review is helpful in letting him know where he could improve. read more
