It seems there are new owners, again. Let's start with the good. I had a chicken salad sandwich with Munster cheese, lettuce, tomato, and honey. Mustard dressing served on a multigrain bread. I don't know that it was monster cheese for sure, but I will give them the benefit of the doubt. There wasn't much dressing on it at all, but the bread was fresh and the sandwich tasted pretty good. I also got two brown sugar chocolate chip cookies which were OK, but just overly sweet and you could feel some of the sugar on your teeth when you chewed. From an aesthetic and overall ambiance perspective, the "Mabel's Tables" is blacked out above Michael's Deli signage, recognizing the change in ownership without there being any other such signage or notification, which doesn't make for a good look or impression. The display case and product shelves were pretty sparse, again, not a good look or feeling given that they will be there a long time. read more

Today I ended up building a turkey club with turkey, cheese, lettuce, mayo, and bacon. The bacon came crispy and paired well with their rye bread. This place is seriously underrated. It's tucked in behind S.Main on Elm St. but I try to stop here once every two weeks (pay day lol) to grab a coffee and breakfast sandwich. It's so cute inside and I've always had the warmest of welcomes when I come in. Help yourself to a coffee and you know after your first bite, the food is prepared with care. My usual is the sausage egg and cheese with grilled onions and hot cherry peppers and it's the best in town... seriously. The Mrs does the same except with bacon. We've stopped a few times with the kids for a sit down and they always ask "why don't we come here more often?" The owner came out one time when she was trying a new French toast recipe with and gave everyone a taste test. Love it!! read more

This place is actually now Mabel's Table at Michael's Deli-- new ownership. I loved everything about this place. Their sandwich menu has a TON of different options that all sound delicious-- or you can make your own. They also offer salads and homemade soup! They also have omelets and breakfast sandwiches (on my list to try next!) Walking in felt like walking into a close neighbor's house... the staff were all very friendly and engaging with each other in a comfortable & homey way. They answered all my questions and were friendly. Specialty sandwiches come with a little side-- potato salad, spicy potato salad, cowboy caviar w chips, coleslaw, etc... The spicy potato salad was very flavorful, had a nice kick, & I don't think you can ever go wrong with cowboy caviar. You can order for pickup and they'll have it ready or walk up to the counter. Today is the first time I've tried Michaels Deli for breakfast and I must say that as simple as my dish is/was, my two eggs, home fries, thick slices of bacon were PERFECT. Michael's is definitely not a greasy spoon kind of joint unlike "other" sit down spots in Cheshire. My simple two egg platter wasn't greasy at all actually. The potatoes were seasoned delightfully and the decor I here is just pleasant and appealing to the eye. I give the owner/operator a lot of credit. A delicious breakfast served up classy and hot! My fiancé goes here mostly every day for lunch. I decided today that i'd meet him for lunch and he ended up taking me here. He rants and rave about how good their sandwiches are. Today I had a chicken salad sandwich and it was THE BEST chicken salad sandwich i've ever had. My partner had a grilled turkey rueben and he devoured it! Awesome please to go! Worst breakfast experience ever. Mable's Table and Michael's Deli. Poorly greeted for breakfast. Not offered coffee or water. Waiter appeared to be a high school boy, totally unprepared , likely an owners son based on lack of involvement. Food order was given. I got a breakfast sandwich, waiter asked me what type of toast did I want with my side order with my sandwich. I was like what, side order of toast with a breakfast sandwich. He advised, most people get a side order...... right Once again, no option to get coffee or water, went to counter to request it. Food came out and was promptly brought to wrong table. There were a total of 3 customers in restaurant. Two customers at my table 1 other customer at other table. Food went back in kitchen , then out again to wrong table. There were 5 employees working and 3 customers. Nobody could figure out the order. Four of the 5 employees game out. This shlept around food was then brought to our table with the sides wrong. Worst restaurant experience ever in my 60 yr old life. Owners, workers , family who ever was working was clueless. Plenty of great spots in Cheshire and Southington. Ahh, the pitfalls of Yelp-- we miss these small neighborhood gems. I've lived in Cheshire for most of my life and had no clue it was here. They're clearly not suffering for business. Lunch hour was PACKED. Most were in formal clothing, so I'm assuming people stop here for lunch break, and I don't blame them! I ordered a pulled bbq chicken wrap. A great sauce, not overwhelming at all, and the fresh tomato and lettuce was a surprisingly good complement. The side potato salad also had some extra spice, and I really appreciated the twist. Had some job training near home today, so got to have lunch with the hubby on my break. We decided to check out Michael's Deli. It had a comfortable, homey feel to it with a few tables for the lunch crowd. There are specials posted on their website everyday, so I already had an idea of what I wanted today. We shared the cheeseburger soup--chock full of ground beef and diced tomatoes that gave it a nice, hearty texture and flavor. I had the chicken caesar asiago wrap--not sure where the asiago was since it appeared to have american cheese, so the wrap was average, nothing special. Tom had the Junior's favorite--grilled chicken, roasted red peppers, pesto mayo, provolone cheese and greens--very enjoyable! A nice place to stop instead of the usual lunch choices. I have eaten far too many Reuben sandwiches from far too many establishments for far too many years (i.e. Reuben connoisseur). Today I had the best Reuben that I have ever enjoyed, courtesy of Michael's Deli. Tender, think-cut corned beef was such a welcomed surprise. If that wasn't enough, I opted for a half-sandwich/soup combo, and was blown away by the Shepherd's Pie soup. Needless to say, my St. Patrick's Day food cravings were completely satisfied. We bowled and headed on over. Simple looking place from the outside. Walk in warm and inviting. We decided on the following for food. From today's specials board their chicken cordon blue sandwich and the Ruben from the regular menu. This mostly came from my daughter couldn't make a decision so I ordered the other so we could have both. Both sandwiches were amazing. We added a cup of the chili and a bowl of the tomato eggplant. The chili screamed that it needed cheese but I am a cheese freak when it comes to chili. I asked for advice between the chicken noodle and the tomato eggplant. So glad I followed the ladies advice. That soup was AMAZING!!!!!!! We daughter occasionally has things that she does in Cheshire and wants to come back for breakfast. Anyone think I'm going to say no? read more

This is the best breakfast in Cheshire. Although, most people have trouble finding this place or are not aware that they are open for breakfast, Michael's breakfast specials can't be beat. There are usually 4 or 5 specials daily or you can order the usual fare off the menu. Be prepared, the portions are large, but the food is always great and served quickly. If you are tired of the has-been "who's who/come to chew" joint in the north end of town, give Michael's a try. You will not be disappointed. read more

Fantastic deli and restaurant in the heart of Cheshire, that you could easily miss if you're not looking for it. Their breakfast and omelettes are top notch, and their sandwiches (with fresh sides) are served with only the freshest ingredients, and always on a fresh roll or bread of your choice. The portion sizes and attention to detail make all of their dishes worthy of a return visit, at least on a weekly basis. This place is a little gem tucked into the back of a plaza in the center of Cheshire. It's can be a little difficult to find but it's worth the effort.
