It has taken me way too long to write this review, but I only recently started reviewing some of the places I've loved over the years, and The Eatery absolutely deserves one. When I lived in Wallingford for about three years, The Eatery became one of my places. I would stop in for breakfast before work, or someone from my team would make the breakfast run. At least once a month, we had to have an Eatery morning. We ordered lunch from here too, so over time this little place became part of our routine. When I eventually left Wallingford, my team actually bought me my last breakfast sandwich from The Eatery before I left. It sounds like such a small thing, but it was honestly bittersweet because they knew how much I loved this place. And years later? It's still just as good. One of the biggest reasons The Eatery has always stood out to me is the customer service. Everyone I've encountered has been sweet, polite and welcoming, but I especially have to mention Sam. Over the years, she became one of those people who made you feel like more than just another customer. She genuinely got to know her regulars. There were times I'd place my order online and it felt like she already knew I was coming. I'd walk through the door and she'd have everything ready. She has always been incredibly kind, caring and attentive, not only with me, but with the customers around her as well. That kind of customer service is something you remember. My son has been eating their food since he was around one year old, and he STILL loves it. Now whenever we're back in Connecticut for his appointments, my mom will ask, "Can we please stop at The Eatery?". Sometimes we're able to make it and sometimes we're not, but this past Friday we finally did. I ordered my favorite kind of breakfast: a bacon, egg & cheese on a pretzel roll. SO GOOD. The pretzel roll with the warm egg, bacon and melted cheese is such a perfect combination. My mom ordered her bacon, egg & cheese on ciabatta, and my son had one as well. Although apparently his wasn't enough, because he ended up stealing mine. Apparently Mom's food always tastes better. I also tried what I believe was their watermelon mint refresher/tea, which was refreshing and perfect with breakfast, while my mom had a caramel coffee that she absolutely loved. And please don't think they're only a breakfast spot. Their lunch is just as good. I used to order their salads all the time during work, and they were always incredibly fresh. In fact, my coworkers were notorious for wanting some of my salad because they knew where it came from. Everything always tasted fresh and thoughtfully prepared rather than like something that had been sitting around. Another thing I love is seeing how much this place has grown. I remember what it was like when I first discovered it, and coming back years later and seeing what they've created is wonderful. They've added so much personality while somehow keeping the same warm feeling and the same wonderful people. The atmosphere is adorable. It's bright, clean, modern and welcoming, with tons of beautiful greenery, hanging plants, warm wood tones, woven light fixtures and fun pops of color. The big "Hello Wallingford!" mural is such a cute touch. There are little details everywhere, but it doesn't feel overdone, it has that relaxed neighborhood café feeling where you can grab your food and go or just enjoy being there. I also love how they change things up for the seasons and different occasions. They always seem to have something fun going on, especially around fall and the holidays, and I believe they offer catering as well. Funny enough, before I discovered The Eatery, I had driven past it so many times without realizing what I was missing. Once I finally stopped in, it became somewhere I went for years. If you live in Wallingford, you need to try this place. And honestly, even if you're coming from North Haven, New Haven or elsewhere in the area, make the drive. It's worth it. I may not live in Connecticut anymore, but whenever we're back in the area, The Eatery is still one of those places my family wants to stop. The food is delicious, the ingredients taste fresh, the atmosphere is beautiful, and most importantly the people have remained just as kind and welcoming as I remember them. Some restaurants are simply places you eat. The Eatery became part of my memories of living in Wallingford, and that's probably the best compliment I can give them. (Last visited January 10, 2025.) I've been coming to The Eatery in Wallingford for safe-to-say, years. A few of my foodie friends put me on game regarding this place that's about a 25-minute drive for me, but always so worth it. Here's why I love it so much! Atmosphere/Appearance: Set in the center of Wallingford a little off of the main drag of Center Street is this humble gem. You can park on the street for free if there's space or in the plaza parking lot right up the block from them. Once in the door you're welcomed by several smiling faces and that makes ALL THE DIFFERENCE! This place is predominately made for takeout. There are no physical tables, but you certainly can pop a squat on the benches near the back of the restaurant if you'd like. Service: There isn't necessarily table service since all you do is order at the counter and wait until your name is called, but the people there are so sweet, soft and will just make your day! They're also full of personality and their social media posts are super funny. Lol. Food: I've had several things from their menu here including the Backyard BBQ Sandwich, Savannah Wrap, Vegan BBQ Mac & Jack Bowl, The Hungry Slope, BCB, Roast Beef and more! These are some of the highest quality, made-with-love sandwiches, tastiest, creative sandwiches around! I just love how every several months they change the menu up introducing new flavors for the season so you never know what you're gonna get! Of course the favorites stay on the menu! Value: These sandwiches aren't cheap, but you have to pay for quality. Expect to spend between $11.00 and $15.00 here for a good meal. Then add on whatever else for drinks or sides, but it's worth it. In conclusion, I love this place, I just wish they were closer AND that they were opened on weekends, but they keep the hours tight to allow their employees to have lives. Crunchy leaves and sweaters which is a grilled chicken sandwich with spinach , bacon, smoked gouda and a Brown sugar aioli on ciabatta. Really good hitting all the sweet and savory flavors. And the Mayflower Turkey, sweet potatoes, stuffing with apples and a cranberry sauce in a wrap. This was really good I love fall inspired Thanksgiving like sandwich. It's hard for me to make it there often due to their hours, but last weekend we went right after the gym as soon as we saw it was the first Saturday they'd be open for the summer!!! Yes, it's absolutely worth it! This spot is so cute and the owners are great! The food is super fresh, high quality and made to order! There are vegan and vegetarian options, caffeinated drinks and decaf, any and everything you could want whether in the mood for a great salad, breakfast or lunch sandwich! Honestly, I've never considered myself a sandwich person unless it's a breakfast sando, but El Cubano here is fantastic and I'd eat that any day for lunch!!! My hubby loved the Chipotle Roast Beef Melt so now I want to try that one soon! And the honey Tupelo for breakfast, OMG! Just allll sooooo good! Get there and tell them I sent you! went to The Eatery for the first time the other day and I have fallen in love!! The interior design is beautiful and really is eccentric! I got the Pea Flower Lemonade and it was stellar! I believe they use the pea flower as a substitution to sugar (i may be wrong) but i love a healthy alternative! I ended up getting a half sandwich of the Fox's Vineyard and you can tell how fresh and high quality the ingredients are. That basil aioli was to die for! My friend got the Lavender Blueberry Matcha and was really impressed! The mashed potato grilled cheese was also such a weird combo to me at first but it pairs so nicely! In additional to their normal hours, The Eatery is now open Saturdays from 10am-2pm for the summer and I am SO happy! The workers are bubbly and inviting. The interior is bright, and although it does not have tables, they do have bench style seating inside and outside. There are some great seasonal specials to keep an eye out for. My mom tried the backyard BBQ sandwich, which she loved. I ordered the Chipotle Roast Beef Melt, but substituted the meat with chicken. Loaded with Cheddar and American cheese, chipotle aioli, grilled red onions, sweet pickled jalapeños on a grilled ciabatta. Will definently be back for another. Their new agua frescos are also a great addition to the summer menu. I got the strawberry watermelon mint - so refreshing. I stopped in on a long drive I was taking back home and was greeted by the friendliest staff! I ordered the Mojave salad without tortilla strips and added the cilantro lime chicken. I also got the Caesar and the bacon mustard sauce on the side to see which I liked better! The only complaints I have at The Eatery is that they are not open for dinner (except the first Friday of the month) and they are not open on the weekends. However - it's a hill I'm willing to climb to order from The Eatery. From their classics that include a variety of vegetarian options that are NOT salads to their seasonal menus - The Eatery is always creative and always really good. My personal favorites include their house-made pickles, anything item that includes their tofu, and their sweet potato quesadilla. However I've never had a bad meal here and I doubt you will too. read more

There is nothing we don't love about The Eatery. The people, the space, the food....all amazing. The creativity and care put into their food is evident. They have classic items and fun items (such as their sandwiches on donuts). We love that they offer a plethora of vegetarian and vegan options NOT as an afterthought. The dishes are put other with as much thought as the non-vegan items. We loved their lemonades and teas. One of the fun coffees we got was an espresso lemonade. You have to try it to love it. Take at least 3 sips and give it a good shot. Anytime we have a day off and can get something we love to try! There is no seating inside aside from a couple benches so be prepared to pick up. The Eatery is one of my favorite CT Food Businesses. Love the culinary POV. Love owners Leah and John. I've attended some Foodie events there, but I'm basing my review solely on two recent trips where I purchased the Spring Special sandwich "Oh You Fancy BLT" and the Summer Special Breakfast Sandwich "Tupelo Honey". The first thing you need to know about The Eatery, is that it's presently takeout only, and is generally only open Monday through Friday, during breakfast through late lunch hours. I'd recommend checking the hours before you go. The second thing you need to know, is that their menu is creative, features some permanent favorites and offers seasonally rotating specials. They also have vegan options, coffee drinks and other cool drinks. After sampling them at events, I returned to purchase two sandwiches on two separate occasions. The Oh You Fancy BLT is Applewood Smoked Bacon, Roasted Tomato, Greens and Basil Leaf Aioli on Multi-Grain Toast. The acidity from the sauce makes this an elevated and delicious BLT. Unfortunately, it rotated off the menu. The Tupelo Honey Breakfast Sandwich, which is presently a Summer Special, consists of ham, eggs, honey jalapeño butter and ancho chili syrup on an a terrific buttermilk biscuit. This sandwich hits several themes of my eating philosophy. Sweet and salty always win. Complex butters and syrups = caring. Great biscuits are the best bread for egg sandwiches. It's delicious and you should check it out if you can. I've loved other sandwiches that I've tried there like the Chipotle Roast Beef Melt and the Cubano. It was a rare occasion that the Eatery was open on a Saturday: celebrating their 10 year anniversary! I had a sandwich from them 3 years ago with a group lunch for work and been dreaming about trying more since. I was also very attracted to their logo and branding that felt very bright, cheerful and friendly. They are primarily open Monday through Friday for breakfast and lunch, never had the chance to make it back. So without question, my Saturday plans were decided. The Eatery is takeout only and you can walk in or order online. I was able to find off street parking and a line already formed near opening time. The space was rather big for a carry out place, decorated with plants, rack of with some t-shirts and a fun, and rainbow photo opt wall. Since it was a celebration, there were balloons and photos of folks' visits that were strung along the walls and counter. The menu was displayed on digital screens and part of the coffee menu was showcased in colorful frames. They are brewing up on of my favorites, Giv Coffee (local roaster in Canton). I grabbed a large, black, iced coffee with honey and cinnamon. It was so yummy! For eats, I had to try their creative spring offerings. I got the Spring Sprang Sprung bowl that was uber delicious and satisfying. Super filling with quinoa, fresh baby spinach, 2 sunny side-up eggs, roasted chickpeas, roasted carrots, grilled asparagus, sprouts, and topped with feta cheese and drizzled with garlic-roasted pepper sauce. My husband requested to bring him back the Fox's Vineyard sandwich that had grilled chicken, applewood bacon, garlic roasted tomatoes, smoked gouda, fresh basil aioli. The food tasted as good as it looked and very fresh, they really know how to mix flavors with a unique flare you won't find anywhere else's. The Eatery certainly knew how to throw a party. I was there to snag a free Eatery T-Shirt and a box of two bonbons from Donovan Family Connections. Donovan's crafted up a special bonbon flavor for the day, The Eatery Apple Fritter. The Eatery is definitely worth all the hype and you will seriously fall in love with it. They've been around for 10 years, a milestone and true achievement in itself. First, I've never actually step foot in the restaurant. It is a favorite of one of my colleagues, so we regularly order work lunches from the Eatery and someone goes to pick it up for us, and it never disappoints. I've waited over four years to write this review! My most recent order was a roast beef sandwich on sourdough, with provolone cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion, mayo, mustard and side of pasta salad. One might assume you would get a fairly pedestrian deli sandwich, but what you get here is just phenomenal. The freshness of the ingredients, the balance of flavors, and creamy satisfaction of biting into their luscious bread--it's an experience that is worth the five stars. Before that, I got the B.E.C. a few times, which is a bacon, cheese, and scrambled eggs on ciabatta, an equally mouth-watering breakfast sandwich. You can probably tell that I'm a "meatatarian" for what it's worth...however, one time I forgot to order and another one of my friends got a Falafel Bowl but ended up at another work meeting which fed them, and didn't want it. I wasn't sure about it, not being the biggest falafel fan--yeah, I was wrong. It's delicious and absolutely worth trying, especially if you've not had it before. I recently went on a Wallingford Hop and discovered The Eatery. My first taste was the Buffalo Pasta Salad and let me tell you- I am hooked on it now! Same goes for the Chipotle Roast Beef Melt! Woo hoo! Leah is absolutely wonderful. I haven't met her husband yet, but I can tell you he makes some delicious food! He's been in the kitchen the two times I have been here. Service-wise, it's been fantastic both visits. The Eatery is more a take out spot. There are benches, but really plan to take your meal home or to a park. What a healthy Gem located in Wallingford! It has been remodeled since yrs back that I have been. I even remember a lovely mural that stood out the side of the Eatery but it's no longer there anymore. Now , it's a beautiful space inside that has been updated and it's nice and bright! Simple and very inviting . The staff is great I must say. Pleasant and wonderful. Very busy place too. Many people picking up orders to go. The Eatery offers a variety of GF and vegan options. So this place, The Eatery. It's like that low-key spot you stumble into when you're tired of eating sad, soggy salads out of your own fridge. My wife and I--mostly my wife, let's be real--grab lunch here every now and then because sometimes you gotta live a little! First off, the food. They know what they're doing. They're not just slapping buffalo sauce on wings like everybody else--oh no--they're putting it IN pasta salad. I don't know who came up with that idea, but they deserve a raise and maybe a parade. They have a really nice potato salad as well. Now, service? Let me tell you, they've got it down. Uber Eats canceled our order once (classic), and these guys were like, "Nah, we got you." They kept the food hot and fresh until we showed up, and here's the kicker--they didn't charge us. Free food! I felt like I was getting away with something. The sandwiches though--on another level. I had this brown sugar egg sandwich that straight up confused me. I was like, "Is this breakfast? Is it dessert? Am I eating a donut or a sandwich?" But you know what? I didn't care. It was fantastic. And don't even get me started on the Chipotle Roast Beef Melt. I don't know what "aioli" means, but I'm pretty sure it's French for "you need this in your life."
