I recently called this Michaels to get an estimate for stretching a canvas. Once I was transferred to the framing department I was immediately told they could not give me an estimate over the phone, but could give me a range. I asked what the range was. The clerk then scoffed at me and said he would need the details of what exactly I needed done. Almost as if I were getting an estimate! Odd... So, once we went back and forth on what I needed to get done (the clerk needed to be corrected several times; not sure how long he has been in framing!), it turns out the "range" was $160. This is 30% more than the most expensive frame store I found locally in San Francisco and double the best price I found locally! Needless to say, given the price, incompetent customer service, and lack of familiarity with my request, I won't be looking to Michael's for any of my other arts & crafts or hobbies needs. read more

I do not know who is the manager of this store but they certainly have not done a very good job. I ordered toys on line for grandkids & for pick-up at this store. I called to confirm the toys had arrived & followed the prompts to press 3 to talk to a live person. I was then greeted with a very high, ear piercing fax sound. I tried calling the same number again just to get the same ear piercing sound again. On the third time- a human answered and this polite person transferred me to the person who dealt with orders. After confirming my order was waiting for me at the store, I asked her if Michael's was located at Serramonte. I guess this was the equivalent of asking her to solve the Riddle of the Sphinx or figuring out the cure to cancer. Not only could she not tell me if Michael's was located at Serramonte- she was unable to even provide any information about where the store was located. I confirmed that she was actually physically located at the store in Colma and she said, "yes." When I politely expressed my incredulity at the fact that she could not tell me if she was at Serramonte Center, where she was- what other stores were located nearby ect.,she rudely hung up. However, I got in car - used google maps and got there without a problem. Had she said it was where bev-mo was- I would have known immediately where the store was located. In any event, I had been told by the first person that there was curbside pick-up and to call when I got to Michael's & that I could stay in my car for pick up. When I arrived, there was no designated area for pick up whatsoever- no signs and no area. So, following the directions, I called- twice just to be greeted by the high pitch ear piercing fax sound- again. So I got out of car and waited in an informal line. The entire experience was a disaster- particularly the ear piercing noise on phone- which other folks in this informal line had also experienced. Most other stores have figured out how to do curbside pick up but the manager of this store does not appear capable of setting up a working system- not to mention arranging for a phone system that does not blow out the customer's ear drums. read more

I would have given 0 star if I could. Last night we were there for the first and last time from roughly 8pm - 9pm. They announced that the store would be closing at 9pm several times: at 30 mins, 20 mins, 15 mins, 10 mins, and 8 mins before. That is fine with me, every store does that. However, somewhere between the 20mins - 15mins before closing, a girl whom I believe to be the manager walked around the store and informed the customers that they were closing. I thought that was a bit weird since they seemed to try harder than normal to kick customers out, especially since it is still 15 mins before closing. But I was like: eh, whatever. Then, 2 minutes after the 15 mins announcement, they TURNED OFF 2/3 of the lights !?!?!? Then, a cashier girl gave an 8 minutes announcement with a very mockery tone. All other cashiers laughed after that and thought it was really funny (to make customers feel bad for being in the store 8 minutes before closing - I would guess). I meant who would do that? I've never been to any stores, including Michael's that was this rude to customers and tried so hard to lose their source of income. I've always liked Michael's but I won't come back to this store. The attitude of the staffs were unprofessional, the store was messy, and the stock was not up to par with other Michael's (many empty spots on the shelves). Last but not least, I don't blame the staffs but I think they should change the manager(s) there. read more

This place is FABULOUS!!!!! Guess it helps to get out of the Castro once and a while. Like no other Michael's I've ever been in before....bright,clean and beautiful! The staff for the most part is entremely friendly,knowledgeable and eager to help.....there are also a few "family members" working here,nice touch! I had a needlepoint custom framed here with pleasing results and the men in that department were both clever and attractive. My only complaint would be at the checkout area....not due to the cashiers but the shoppers. Why do women shop from the cart and hold everyone up?????? And why do they return so much?? Today my sisters and I went to Michael's to buy Christmas tree we found one in the front of the store for $89 which we thought was pretty reasonable where my chicken up to go pay for it, the cashier charged us $198. We told her there was a ticket that said $89 she went to go look at it, my sister went with her when she came back she said it was $198 she said it was the wrong tickets then we asked her why wasn't that you get removed. She did not have an answer for us and said it was a mistake and we told you it was false advertisement and she said it was not he didn't ask to speak to a manager the manager Salvador came to speak to us and was so very rude to us we didn't understand how Michaels could have someone like this working with the public with such bad people skills he began to yell at us until just know that she would not sell us the tree for that price. We thought that he should try to make the customer happy an offer us at least a 10% discount on something else or at least 10% more off the tree but you did not he's if you did not have to do anything to satisfy the customer oh, those are not people skills. Like I said he was very rude to us and was yelling at us in front of the whole store yes we were yelling back of course because we were all upset . I just wanted to put this out there so other people can see thought this was not fair I hope Michaels looks into this and does something about it thanks for ruining our Christmas. has beverly's and joann's met their match? and who is this michael and how did he get to be so crafty?! leave it to the masculine craft store to try and outdo its feminine competitors by doing things bigger and brighter. this space is huge and perhaps even cavernous - compared to the cramped quarters of beverly's and joann's, everything's nicely spaced out here, with plenty of room to navigate. kind of like office depot but with decorative cardstock and stationery instead copy paper, decorative rubber stamps instead of stamps labeled "confidential" or "filing", and favor supplies instead of office supplies. it's a bit intimidating when you first walk in and are faced with rows and rows of scrapbooking materials - especially if you're not a scrapbooker like me. where's the tulle? the styrofoam shapes? but rest assured, if you navigate the sections long enough you'll find all the artsy crafty supplies you need. even some you couldn't find at beverly's (e.g. mini organza favor bags - beverly's has more color selections but simply ran out of the white ones i needed!) what michael's lacks are fabrics - guess some things have to be left to the girls! read more

Love this store because of employee Janneth. She works in the custom framing department and she is amazing!! We have framed 6 pieces with her now. She is helpful, tells you her honest opinion, professional, creative, and really sweet. A few of our custom frames were cracked when we picked them up and they were not done by her. She reordered frames and said that she would personally frame them. I came back a week later and they were flawless. In a store full of clueless employees, she is wonderful and is the reason we go back for our framing! read more

I just went to Mikes at Colma and the SERVICE stinks. I asked a girl for the shadow boxes and she told me, "over there by the halloween stuff." I went over there and didn't see them. I asked one employee and she IGNORED me. I asked another employee and she ignored me. O.K. I went back to the girl and asked here again and told her to show me. I told her. Two of her fellow employees ignored me and are probably DEAF. She showed me, where they were. I asked Phillip for the price tags. Phillip seem ready to run away. This is Retail and you cannot be shy. So, Phillip had to serve me and help me find the item and I told him to tell his manager about his ignorant fellow employees. My wallet wasn't packed and I could buy anything anyway. I would post less than one star, but that's as low as I can go. I placed an order on 11/2/19 and was concerned when they said it would be shipped in 2 shipments because it was a large order of MATCHING things to decorate for Christmas outside. (I called immediately to voice my concern and was assured it was ok.) One package never got delivered and Michael's made me contact UPS even though they are the ones who contracted with them. Days went by and Michael's never contacted me - no follow up. I called back a few days later and asked why no one had offered to expedite the missing items and have them follow up with UPS. I was told they could do this - guaranteed next day delivery but not sure how it would be handled over the weekend. Long story short - that was on Friday and today (Sunday) I received a cancellation notice for part of the order. I called and the rep said they didn't have the wreath...the one MAJOR part of the MATCHING decorations. Remember...this is now almost a MONTH of waiting for product. I asked the rep to transfer me to management as I have been treated so badly with no follow up. I was placed on hold for about 10 min and then disconnected. And, guess what, Not a soul tried to call me back even though my phone number is associated with my account!!!! POOR POOR customer service. No follow up. Go somewhere else for what you need as they will never support you. And, through this all, no kind of offer to try to help compensate me for literally hours of calls and time trying to track this down. Not one offer for anything, not even a string of ribbon!!! First, I feel that Michaels itself is overpriced when it comes to crafts. Joann's fabrics is cheaper, although I admit that the one in colma near Michael's is not well organized and often has things out of stock. That said, I feel Joann's customer service is a lot better though. Twice I've been to Michael's and they forget to scan my coupon, or they have the wrong price on an item. Another time i went to return two items and the salesperson forgot to the return the other item. She also forgot to give me back the original receipt. So while I like Michael's for their 40 percent off coupons, I make sure now to watch the salesclerk like a hawk to make sure they are ringing up my transaction correctly. I tend to be frustrated a lot after leaving the store. read more

This time I believe the employees had some bad attitude and its the holiday so I'm wondering with the bad customer service. The lady that rang me up was not helpful at all just plain rude. I feel like this place has a lot of crafty things in one place which is pretty much its only plus. Yes, you can find anything that your DIY and crafty mind would ever want - from bridal accessories, invitations, to flowers, frames, albums, jewelry making and painting supplies. It has a huge range of craft supplies for children of all ages as well. However, in that huge store there are also not too many choices of things. First of all, the children's craft supplies are over priced by at least 2-3 dollars on all the Crayola items. You can simply walk over to the target which is 3 doors down and be able to buy same items for 2-3 $ cheaper and if its on sale, even less! My point in coming here was to find bridal accessories for my upcoming wedding. I had a friend who used their DIY wedding invitations, so I wanted to take a look at choices they had. They had about 2-3 templates and that's it. Kind of small, considering that their website does not allow you to view any of the templates online and refers you to the store. Additionally, many items like crystals, rose petals, etc can be bought much cheaper on Amazon. I guess, it's a good store if you are looking to find variety of crafty items and don't have time to look around for better prices. read more

They don't have it, and don't even know what you're talking about when you ask for it. This includes indifferent Corporate Marketing men who come to Colma periodically. They couldn't care less what you want. I rarely find anything I want there. If you're a paper artist, the Colma store is a waste of time and gasoline, especially without coupons of at least 40%. read more

Literally over this Michael's. The manager is super nice super helpful but everyone else has THE WORST customer service skills. My cousin went in spoke to the Manager and told her she was looking for a specific yarn and everyone kept telling her it was seasonal and they won't get it again. The manager asked who she spoke to because she wanted to correct the employee because they were in fact getting more. We of course didn't remember the employees name. She told her to call Thursday or Friday to check if it came in. So I call today and the "person in charge of yarn" tells me the yarn I'm looking for is seasonal and they won't be getting it anymore. Then my cousin calls to ask for a manager she speaks to Donna and she tells her the same thing and that even if we spoke to a manager they would tell us the same thing. You guys need to get to get your selves on the same page. This back and forth with different info stuff is bad for business. Not to mention that when they did have the yarn in stock I would ask for "big blanket bernat yarn" and they would "hold it for me" and when I get there they would have "big bernat yarn" on hold for me. Which is completely different. Please learn your products so your customers don't have to waste their time!!!! read more

I've driven past this place countless times in the past, always wishing that I had time to go in and peruse all the craft supplies. Unfortunately, today I spent 8 minutes in the store and I really wish I could get those 8 minutes of my life back. Customer service was *awful*. First, I spoke to an employee who had bloodshot eyes and was slurring. Wait. That was my better customer service interaction. I should have stuck with that employee. Sadly, I asked a question of a different, unfortunately sober, employee who was completely rude and implied by her behavior that I was unable to read English. I showed her an item and asked her if it was on sale and she said to me "It SAYS..." and proceeded to read each word of the sign in front of me and pointing to each word on the sign as she read it to me. Dropped off a painting for framing about 3 1/2 weeks ago. We were told that it would two weeks, when I called 2 1/2 weeks later I was told it wasn't ready because they had to request a new part. The requested the new part the day I called so it took another week to receive the part. The framing came out great but the service was not good. We waited for like 45 mins to retrieve it because the framing guy was out to lunch. We were offered a 5% refund because they did not have our order ready on time. The pricing was expensive. I love Michael's and shop there every chance I get. I was there many times shopping for items for my daughter's wedding and reception. The store was always clean, well stocked and the staff very friendly and helpful. I love the scrapbooking section, again it offers a wide variety of items for purchase. My only complaint is that they allow dogs in the store. I have nothing against those that love dogs as I love them myself but I don't feel that I can enjoy my shopping experience when there's a dog getting tangled around my feet with his leash. It's not the dogs fault but the owner's responsibility, I understand that, but obviously the owner wasn't that responsible. I feel the management should enforce a rule of no dogs in the store other than assistance dogs. read more

Has a large selection of arts and crafts items. Pricing is decent, and they issue various discount coupons. Some items are made in China and smell bad -- for example, the peel-off sponge shapes (numbers, letters, etc.) that come in clear containers, which I have bought on several occasions. The last time I bought this kind of item, the chemical smell was so bad when I opened the container that I returned the item. I will NEVER buy such items made in China again -- from any vendor. read more

This is a great store to go to if you like colorful decorative things. I love shopping there and their variety of selections are the best! They have so many things to choose from and very neat. Even though I am not a very artsy person I still like coming here to get great ideas. Their price is very good and usually there are always sales and that is why I love Michaels! It is roomy and just a very quiet place. I personally do not like messy and noisy stores so I always go here when I get the chance (like every weekend!) If you love making bracelets out of beads, this is the place to go. I mean they have really nice looking beads and they actually fit their price. There are som any kinds of beads to choose from and you will just end up being there for an hour because you are so hooked in to the whole thing. I ordered a gift card online on 8/15. As of 8/23 this has not been received by the person who had a birthday on the 21st. I have called Michaels twice. I am told the card was mailed on the 15th and it takes 7-10 business days to arrive. REALLY! An envelope does not take that long. Customer service does not care and are a bit arrogant. If you need art supplies, Michaels is the place to go. However, things are a little pricy there. My suggestion is always search online for Micheals' coupon so you get an item 40 - 50% off. If you are getting vases, highly recommended to get them at Ross cause it is much cheaper. The artificial flowers are well made but they are not cheap, get it when it is 70% off. This is a cool store with a ton of craft everything! Seems like they are the Swiss Army knife in the DIY world. Picked up a ton of stuff here over the years, even things that I wouldn't of thought that they would carry. I've gotten stuff from here to make my own Halloween costumes, fix minor breakages in clothing, and even repair my garage remote control key ring with some of their super tiny tiny key rings that they sell by the hundreds. I stopped by here a couple of days ago to take advantage of the 50% off after 2pm coupon to get some kraft paper. This is my usual store aside from the one in San Mateo. During my last 2 visits to this store... something changed.... and it is the smell of the store.... Now I don't know what it is but it stinks of heavy perfume or some kind of cologne to the point that I can actually taste it... it's so disgusting!!! I get a huge headache within 5 minutes of being in that store too...ugh! Honestly, if it wasn't for the smell, I would give this place 4 stars. And why not 5? Well, for the most part, all the staff are friendly and helpful... when you happen to find one outside of the cash register. I don't know if it's because they are understaffed or people call out sick but it's so hard to find someone to help you.... even if you approach the person in framing, they'll just tell you that they only specialize in framing.... but they wear a Michael's uniform too.... WTH?!?! All in all, I prefer going here than Beverly's or Joann's fabrics because of the awesome coupons they have on a weekly basis :) read more

i like this place! they have so many scrap booking materials, youll never get enough.. went there and spent over $200 worth of scrapbooking materials omg! but its worth it, ive been using all of it! not only scrap booking, but also any sort of arts and crafts too. i think i saw cake decorating activities being held there too! employees are also very nice! although scrap booking can get pretty expensive, its awesome! read more
