We came here to celebrate my partners birthday a little early since mine was coming up first. We were escorted to the back of the restaurant where the main part is, they had a live singer covering hit songs which was cool! We didn't really get too much of an "Italian" vibe because a majority of the songs were in Spanish or English but that's neither here nor there. Our server was great however it did take a while for him to get around to us and I sat for about 15 minutes waiting for a Coke until my actual entree came out but that's not worries. I put in a special request on OpenTable for a birthday treat and they brought up a big spread of what he could choose from and he opted for the crème brûlée! We really enjoyed it and that they sang him happy birthday. We ordered stuffed crab mushrooms which were delicious and the lobster ravioli was also super yummy! I ordered the chicken parmigiana and thought it tasted like any other kind, it wasn't bad but it didn't stick out to me. I think the noodles were made al dente because they were a bit too firm for my liking and the sauce tasted like it came from a bottle as opposed to real pasta sauce. My partner gave his food an 9/10, I give mine a 7/10. We did some drinks as well I think I had a rum punch and my partner had a mojito and we both enjoyed our drinks as well, 9/10 for the rum and 10/10 for the mojito. read more

So I've been looking for a new home to replace my old haunts near Riverdale. The culinary offerings there were often appropriately enhanced by the decor and hospitality of the staff. Well Michaelangelo's has been fitting the bill pretty well this summer. It's further down Arthur Avenue towards Fordham University, so I feel the location hurts the availability of foot traffic. What makes this place worth the extra steps is the aforementioned triple threat of: Cuisine, Hospitality, and Decor. The decor: Michaelangelo's looks like an oasis from the city. Other places have backyards, but the proprietors have gone through great pains to make the restaurant (which is mostly the yard) look like a vacation retreat. This includes palm trees and wicker furniture. The yard is covered (and heated during the winter), so you can enjoy a cool drink or delicious meal even in inclement weather. The food and drinks: I've sampled a good deal of the fare here. Every dish is delicious so far. The drinks are a generous pour, and the bartenders often check to make sure the taste is to your liking before moving on to other business. The staff: One of the draws that pulls me out of my house, or gets me walking extra steps, is my experience. I know that I'll be taken care of here, and that the word "hospitality" is taken seriously when I walk through the doors. The bottleneck of restaurants down Arthur might be enticing, but for a few extra steps, you'll be treated to an extra treat by coming here. read more

Wonderful service, nice ambiance with exposed brick and plants, but the entree was disappointing. The appetizer, fried calamari, was very good. I had the Chicken a la Michaelangelo, with prosciutto, spinach and mozzarella, in marsala sauce, they easily subbed vegetables for the pasta side, my dining partner had Chicken Parmesan. Both chicken cutlets were tough and hard to chew. The marsala sauce had no taste. The vegetables were good though. I wouldn't go out of my way to come back here for these entrees. I was invited to this restaurant by a friend who is in my bereavement group and she was holding her late husband's memorial service dinner there. Many of us from the group attended and we really had a great time. The ambience of the restaurant to the Rathskeller downstairs was great. We had this little cozy downstairs rooms that was perfect for the memorial. We had the monitor going with pictures and people gave speeches and it was so wonderful to his memory. The upstairs of the restaurant was so unexpectedly adorable like you were in a tropical location. The food was perfect. We had so many appetizers and main entrees family style and all worked out perfectly. We plan to go back for happy hour M-F 3pm to 8pm!! Can't beat that!! So happy it was a great time! read more

From the outside this place looks really small, but when you walk in it's like you have another an underground world, they have a very nice covered back yard with a bar and other rooms for private events. All the food we tried was great, they had a brunch menu & restaurant week menu in addition to their regular menu. Everything was great, the fried calamari, oysters, clams, meatballs, French toast, steak & eggs, burger, chicken Marsala. The service was amazing, everyone from the wait staff to the bartender to the manager. The manger Crystal went above and beyond and made our brunch get together very special. When attending educational dinners, I usually have to trek it to Manhattan or Long Island. That being said, when I received an invite to one in the Bronx, I pounced to secure that RSVP. Being held at a restaurant on Arthur Ave was an added bonus - especially since I had never been to Michaelangelo's before. Sitting right on Arthur Ave, Michaelangelo's doesn't look like much from the outside - however, once you enter it's pretty spacious. The aesthetics are mostly dark with exposed brick, typical of a classic Italian restaurant. We were seated in a private room downstairs where the aesthetics continued. The bread basket contained focaccia and was served with olive oil that was colored bright red. I'm not exactly sure what else it contained, perhaps paprika or some light tomato base because it just tasted like regular oil; it was good nonetheless. We were served apps family style - arancini, fried calamari, eggplant rollatini, and salad. Everything was pretty good - the arancini was a standout because they weren't too dry which I've found they fall victim to at other restaurants. The pasta course was penne alla vodka. The pasta was cooked al dente but the dish was a little too saucy and slightly lacked flavor. For my main I had chicken marsala; the dish was pretty good - they didn't skimp on mushrooms and the chicken was tender. For dessert they served us a plate full of goodies to choose - I had the cannoli which was one of the better ones I've had. Service was good, and overall I found Michaeangelo's to put out a solid offering. I think I got a good idea of their menu, but I need to come back for regular dinner in order to make the most accurate assessment. Michaelangelo's may not be the most exciting place on Arthur Ave or have the most sophisticated dishes, but the flavors were mostly there and the food was quality. Would it be the first restaurant I'd go to on Arthur Ave or the first I would recommend to someone out of town? Probably not - but I would totally be for coming back and exploring more of their menu read more

We ate at Michelangelos with a large party. We had a party of 20. They recommended family style with that large of a party. We also had reservations and picked our dishes a week before we dined. After being seated we waited well over an hour for our first dish, which was a salad. The other courses were also late, and small, and the food was not worth the price. Very bad experience. No one finished their food. Such a disappointing experience we were expecting delicious simple Italian food. This felt more like the food was thrown together. Bruschetta- no flavor or salt even. The tomato and unions were soggy. Nasty Risotto balls- the rice was not cooked. The sauce was cold Lobster ravioli- the filling had no taste and was a purée of something Chicken a al Michael Angelo- salty and bland. I've been eating/ordering Michaelangelo's for quite some time however I felt obligated to post a review after my bad experience with takeout. While I can attest to certain dishes being good, their customer service is lacking. I frequently order pasta fegioli soup online and request bread and never have any problems when I request a side of bread with my soup (this is a normal request). However GrubHub was down so I called the restaurant to confirm that they were open and the hostess said she had neglected to charge the tablet for orders online. I then requested to place a pickup order through her and ordered two servings of pasta fegioli soup. When I requested a side of bread she told me she would have to manually input it and that it would show up on my receipt as a charge for garlic bread ($5). For a small cup of soup, which is already overpriced at $8 per serving, I was greatly disappointed in the lack of customer service and their failure to provide bread to accompany it. I will add some photos of other dishes I do enjoy from Michelangelo's along with the soup and $5 bread. read more

A beautiful ambiance for a night out with the family. The covered patio was gorgeous (a dream for plant lovers like myself). The service was impeccable-- thank you to our server, Silvi, for the wonderful recommendations! I had the passionfruit mojito, which is a must, and the lasagna and Tirimsu, which reminded me of my Italian grandmother's cooking. Amazing atmosphere the back patio is really the allure. surrounded by tropical plants and small lights really creates an ideal ambiance. food was all great. service good, but nothing to rave about. pear salad is absolutely a must!! the house salad was also pretty good for a house, chicken was a bit meh. balsamic dressing is extremely special and flavorful. mussels with red sauce were incredibly fresh and plump, tons of fresh basil and garlic were great additions. complimentary bread and sauce is also included. the personal pizza is definitely enough for 2- we build our own, mushrooms, eggplant and broccoli rabe. the pizza was divine, however the toppings are a bit skimpy- for example i'm a mushroom fanatic and the mushrooms were diced and practically raw which was a huge disappointment. the eggplant was also diced into small pieces (I prefer large slices for a more eggplant parm vibe) the broccoli rabe was also diced. in total the pizza was $21 which felt a bit high for the product, definitely was tasty but would maybe request it a bit more well done and pass on the shrooms unfortunately. when it comes to dessert this was an upset. it was only 7:20pm on a saturday and they told us they were out of napoleons?!?!! how??? literally what. nothing else appealed to us so we decided to leave it at that. would definitely return! read more

Calamari didn't have any type of flavor, like they just threw it in oil and fried it up per order. I would def revisit this establishment again to try other things on the menu. Recently had food delivered from here. I've dined in multiple times and also have gotten take out. In my recent order I asked for two rib eye steak meals. That comes with veggies and potatoes. I also got a side of spaghetti and marinara sauce. For an appetizer I ordered the coconut shrimp and fried calamari. The food was good but I did have a few issues with it. The coconut was super THICK on the shrimp. The steak was the biggest disappointment. I asked for them to be cooked to medium temp. Instead one was cooked medium well. It was also dry. They didnt put any seasoning on the steak. Once it arrived I had to add salt, pepper, garlic powder and butter to it. My husband and I ended up sharing the bigger steak since it was cooked correctly and really juicy. Considering the options I have in this area, I cant go wrong with this place. The food often lacks in terms of execution and technical flaws. But the quality of the food items is always good and fresh. Considering my food was delivered to me - it wasnt that bad. I also hate the fact that I have to now pay the salad. I use to get a house salad with any entree for FREE. Now they only give you the salad if you dine in. Sucks. After an entire lifetime of hearing how awesome the food is on Arthur Ave I finally got to try out this place in Little Italy. After a day at the NY Botanical Gardens we hopped in the car and headed over for a late lunch (around 3:30pm). We were easily able to find street parking at this time but with all the restaurants in the area I can see this being a problem at dinner time. From the outside Michelangelo's looks tiny. Once you walk in past the front area the restaurant opens up to a huge covered air-conditioned outdoor area. I really liked this because you feel like you're outside but are completely sheltered from the elements. Service was friendly but not really attentive. They seemed to be busy planning for the Friday dinner rush. We ordered two personal pies (about 12" but very thin crust). Two orders of rice balls. And they gave us a basket of bread. For three adults and three kids we had more than enough food for lunch. The food was good but I've had much better on SI and in NJ. Prices were pretty high for what we had. Two bottles of Pellegrino $10 each. Each small glass of soda $3 (no refills). Three decent sized rice balls $10. And pizzas were $15. To top it off they included gratuity in the check. I'm not sure if it's because we had a party of 6 (3 of us being 10 and under)or this is just standard. Either way it was a turn off and we'd normally leave more than they took out on their own but we didn't feel service was good enough to justify adding more. If you're in the area it's not a bad option but I probably wouldn't go back with the number of other restaurants nearby. read more

Tuesday evening dinner 7PM specials were $2 margaritas and $2 tacos (ONLY AT THE BAR) I didn't try the specials that night. It was empty just 3 other diners besides myself. Back patio is beautiful and adds a nice feel to your evening. Nice for a date! The food was good and did not take long to come out. I'm giving it 4 stars because I have no complaints on the food. The red sangria was good but not for me, felt like it lacked something. Not worth the $12 a glass, just have a simple glass of wine instead.
