Another unpleasant experience with this place. Stopped today to get coffee and danish. Only milk i drink is 2% or skim. Paid 7$ for coffee, and at a bar they said that they only have whole milk or half and half. I said no problem, and asked for refund! Mia's made and delivered a 2 tier carrot cake for my husband's 50th bday last weekend and it was a hit...cake was delicious and looked like the pic off their website of design options. I also want to give an extra shout out because there was a hiccup in the initial delivery of the cake where it was damaged but upon my phone call, they were 100% responsive and made arrangements to pick it up, fix it and deliver back on time for the party. I can't say that it's hard to say goodbye to a place that I've been loyal to for years that hasn't been loyal to me. Here are five reasons why I am so happy that I will never go to Mia's again. 1. Even when it's not busy in this place, you rarely get efficient, caring customer service, for example went there to get a slice of cherry pie and Brooklyn blackout cake for my son in the afternoon. We stood in the middle of the line for several minutes without being acknowledged. When we stood by the cashier to order, he asked us if anyone helped us to which I replied no. Instead of offering an apology for the wait and no service, he decided to tell me that the next time we should wait in the middle of the line. I did not respond to that. I simply ordered knowing that the best thing for me to do was never come back to this place again. There have been too many of the same incidents. 2. They overlook us, a black mother and her son to serve white people and other ethnicities that come in after us. It's not a coincidence if it happens several times. Some fellow customers are decent enough to tell them that we were there first while others, like the non-man today just give them their order and expect to leave before we do. By the grace of God, his ass was still standing there, watching us walk out. 3. Exorbitant prices for sometimes week-old, stale cake, cupcakes, and macarons. 4. The horrible delivery service that will pick up the phone only to keep you on hold, not giving you any answers as to where your order is. They'll just give you the runaround, which shows you how little they respect their customers. 5. When it's busy, the downright rudeness that you get from the hosts, the counter staff, and the wait staff is outrageous. This is probably the best bakery in the NYC area to get layered cakes for birthday parties or other celebrations with a group of loved ones. The cakes are huge, delicious, reasonably priced, and there are so many options to choose from! Although I have not yet bought a full cake, I have tried a slice of chocolate mousse cake with caramel. Although it was huge, I did not feel heavy after eating it. The cake layers were moist, the balance of cream vs. cake was perfect, and neither cream nor cake were too sweet, which really helped bring out the chocolate flavor. I was not a fan of the caramel cronut, however. It tasted way too sweet and plastic-y for my taste, to the point where I couldn't swallow and had to toss it out. The banana bread pudding was just the perfect after dinner dessert. It wasn't overly sweet and had nice chunks of banana that you could actually taste. Mia's has a few specialties that are to die for. We love the cronuts offered in the mornings. I think they call them something different, but essentially they are beautifully fluffy and layered, and the flavor is spot on. We had one dipped in chocolate icing and can't wait to try more. Fortunately, the team at Mia's was able to squeeze me in, and save our little mini- gathering for my son's first birthday. They not only whipped up a strawberry shortcake with terribly short notice, they customized it to my request with perfect execution in time for our little celebration. And then, there's the cake itself. Aside that it was a beautifully decorated cake - it was delish! So fresh, and so tasty. It may be easy to impress a one year old, but not as easy to impress me. A cute bakery with indoor and outdoor seating in the backyard. The chocolate lava cake is true chocolate lava cake and not frozen nor artificial tasting. I added a scoop of vanilla gelato on the side to make the perfect pairing. The coffee is delicious and they have Natalie's lemonade!! My only complaint is that while the menu is large, they don't have many of the to go options displayed on the dining in menu. Some of them are desserts that can be eaten seated so I'm not sure why. We asked for water and had to wait 20+ minutes while this peer of customers, who came in after us, got theirs at least 10 minutes before we did. Then, after receiving our drinks and ordering our food, they put down the Oreo cake and a "strawberry cheesecake" which is what we ordered. However, the cheesecake looked more like a vanilla cake to which we had to re-ask for my cheesecake. Also, we had ordered a lemonade and a banana pudding but was told that they "didn't have any" but we saw a worker walk out the kitchen with at least a dozen cups of banana pudding to restock the shelves. Though this place looks nice on the outside and I have no complaints about the food, the staff did not leave a very welcoming presence on our time here. read more
