Usually, when I eat spanish food, I go for dominican or puerto rican food, this restaurant is Columbian. Different for me and very good. I had their roasted chicken, steak, platano maduros, arroz con frijoles and few other things. All was great. They're always busy so order ahead and pick up. Nothing really stands out as outstanding but really good spanish food. I go there over Pollos Marios though Marios is much closer to me. read more

One of my favorite Colombian restaurants in the neighborhood, the portions are enormous and very affordable. My faves here are the grilled salmon platter, the BBQ special and the seafood soup but you have to make sure that you get extra green sauce, if you don't you will definitely regret it because it makes everything taste amazing even the white rice. Definitely stop in for an amazing meal read more

It pays to know people who love Spanish food like me.. My friend took me to this sketchy area in Long Island...but arrived in a place that knows how to cook real good Colombian food. I had the platter that came with chicharon, skirt steak, rice, beans, plantains, guacamole and arepas topped with a fried egg...They are not greedy with their portions.. It typically takes me 2 days to finish my leftovers. I would go here all the time, if I had a car... read more

This place was a real surprise. About 2 years ago a friend of mine took me here and I was fairly reluctant to try it out, partially because the area isn't known for it's cuisine nor is it the safest area. Hempstead might have gotten more of a bad rap than it deserves but don't let that stop you from giving this place a try. The first thing I noticed about Mi Tierrita is the atmosphere and crowd. The building has a columbian flair, which went along with the dishes and the crowd that ate their was mostly Columbian, which tends to signify that this is the real deal (a very promising sign). The prices here are very reasonable, especially for the portions you receive with your meals. I tend to order the Plato Typical which contains a generous portion of steak, eggs, rice, beans, plantains, pork skin, and more. The food is tasty and you have to have a "man vs food" kind of appetite if you wish to finish everything on the plate, which isn't a bad thing. The menu isn't huge but there are some other options as well. If you're in the mood for authentic, well-made, Columbian food then I'd definitely recommend this place. It's not the kind of place you'll want visit too often due to the specific nature of the menu but check it out sometime! read more

I've been to this restaurant a few times and was never disappointed. Sometimes you have a great wait as the portions are huge for the price. I ordered a while fried red snapper, which came with rice and beans, salad and a couple of other sides and it was $20. I definitely had food for next day leftovers. The grilled skirt steak, rice and beans, etc...was around $14 and tasted wonderful. The steak wasn't dried out or anything. I'm not too familiar with arepas, so the corn cake was dull and tasteless to me. Other than that I'm a fan of the food. The waitstaff were friendly, the decor was ok/good. Tvs mounted to watch mainly soccer and such. Overall I'd dine there again. Another reviewer mentioned the location and yes, it's in Hempstead LI. read more

Food is great and portion size is awesome. Service on the other hand isn't the best. They don't have enough waiters to serve customer and there for lack in attention to details. read more

If I could give less than one star I would, last night I called in my order and waited in the parking lot for an hour each time the waitress came out I asked her for my order she said it's coming I after the last one went back in I called and the guy said sorry were closed. They don't speak English so I try to use my little bit of Spanish, the time before that they got my entire border wrong, the moral of the story is STAY AWAY FROM MI TIERRITA IN HEMPSTEAD UNLESS YOUR HISPANIC read more

Awesome experience. The sangria is perfect. Empanadas are best I ever had, esp with the scallion sauce. Get the typical place. Pork, beans, and rice were delish. Beef was a bit chewey. Will be back! We have returned a couple more times and have found my favorite - chicken soup with beans and rice. read more

Ay Madre!!! I forgot how great the food here is!! I ordered the Mi Tierrita Special: Flank steak, pork loin, 1/4 rotisserie chicken, rice, beans & salad. HUGE, and I mean H-U-G-E portions, and all for only $13.95 !!! Top it all off with a Tres Leches Flan and you are good to go!! My wife, aka "Bird", ordered the same thing, ate until she was full and STILL took home enough food for a full plate of dinner. Delicious food at a delicious price!!! read more

Use to be good now it sucks. Went a few months ago and I had to tell someone to take all the plates from the table. Went tonight picked up empanadas they don't even have the sauces. read more

This place may be located in the dump that is Hempstead, but trust me, it's a diamond in the rough! I came here once with a few acquaintances and have been back several times without them! This place is truly authentic as well, as the clientele is almost completely Hispanic. Everything is fresh and made to perfection, so if you're in the mood for some delicious Latin American flavors, take a trip over here and see for yourself how good this place is. I still day dream of their pork skin time to time! read more

This place never disappoints. I have been here with my family a couple of times. The bandeja tipica and sancocho de res are amazing. The portions are so big that you won't go home hungry. read more

Food is okay nothing out of this world. The wait staff never smiles and always seems bothered when you ask them a question. Servers touch your glass at the top of the cup with their hands after they touched their face, scratched their hair etc. not a fan of people touching the top of my cup where I put my lips to drink from. read more

The food is delicious and the portions are extremely generous. Not very fancy, but who cares. You come to enjoy and fill up. Highly recommend. read more

Amazing food! Had a steak that was sooo good! The rice and beans are especially tasty. The empanadas were not the way I normally have them, but they were really good and full of meat. I def recommend coming here if your in the mood for Columbian food. read more

Love this place for columbian food! Food is always delicious and comes out very fast. My go to place for columbian

I love coming here, come here from queens. They're the only place with a huge delicious portion of Ajiaco !!! Love it. The only reason I'm not giving 5 stars is because they sometimes forget to give cream, especially if you do take out for the Ajiaco. And when you ask them they sometimes aren't sure what you mean .... But the servers are so nice and everyone helps out !! Today specifically brought my mom here for lunch and she loved it. Thanks Karla !! read more

Delicious food, fast service, clean restaurant. Went at 7:30pm on a Wednesday and it was a good choice for dinner. Ordered the rostisery chicken platter and it's good enough for two it comes with fries, soup, rice, salad, beans and half a chicken. read more

Amazingggg. Have been ordering from here all week. Spot on everytime. Beef soup is my go to and calentado for breakfast!

I arrived with my sibling and child with no wait time. Quick delivery with drinks however took an additional 10-15 minutes for another server to take the order. After 15-20 minutes food was delivered by another server. Food was fine, but took an obnoxious amount of time to get a refill, condiments, and additional coffee. Received bill by yet another server. In summary, food is great somewhat overpriced ( be careful they don't give free refills ) but brace yourself if you NEED SERVICE you won't get it here. Update: 10/23/16 I arrived with my child and niece with no wait time. Quick efficient delivery with drinks. Appetizers arrived shortly after. Dinner afterwards. I am pleased that The waiters followed up quickly and efficiently. Food is great as usual. Service was on point. read more

Disappointed. My family and I have been coming to this restaurant for years now and the service and quality of the food has declined. First of all, most of the waiters and waitresses are inattentive, unhelpful, and rude. Not only did it take 20 minutes to get menus, but another hour to be served--meanwhile, there were only 2 other occupied tables in the restaurant at the time. After having received our food, the waitress was no where to be found for the next hour. The only reason I gave an extra star is because upon noticing the disappearance of our waitress, one waiter came to check on us and help us out. Now, the food. The breakfast here has always been good. Fresh and delicious. I've never had a problem with it. And it's perfect for colombian antojitos. The rotisserie chicken in probably the only item I would recommend for dinner. The beans are either not heated well or cold, same with the soups. And worst of all, I have found hairs in my food multiple times, and on one occasion, some foreign object reminiscent of a fingernail. At first I thought it was an isolated occurrence, unfortunately that's not the case, especially when the hair is wrapped around a piece of chicharron. So I will not be returning. Mi Tierrita has lost loyal, longtime customers. read more

Ambiance: Family-style restaurant. Cute. Cozy. Service: I usually take my food to go, and I've never had an issue. Even when I dine in, service is great. Food: I've recently been getting their rotisserie chicken with rice and beans. It also comes with a soup. That meal always satiates. Their empanadas are also sure to satisfy your appetite. Plenty of parking. Cash and credit are equally welcomed. read more

Ordered the "Mi Territa" special which came with rice and beans which was delicious, chicken, think steak, pork (which I declined but they gave me more steak), a bit of salad, and avocado. The steak and chicken were quite good but I agree with the other user that it does need a bit more salt or sazón. The rice and beans were my favorite. They give you so much food and for $13.95 it's a deal and worth trying. I ordered a mango in water drink twice as it was also delicious. Quick service. They don't accept AMEX. read more

This place is a mini diamond in the rough. Its not located in the best area but there is nothing to worry about. There is a parking lot that basically connects to the restaurant This place offers delicious Colombian food with huge portions and low prices. I have been coming here for about 2 years. One entree can easily feed two people. I love the bandeja tipica which offers a good amount of steak, rice, beans, arepa, plantains, beans, pork and more! Make sure to add the green sauce to the steak ;-D 5 Stars because this places always has me coming back for more, simply DELISH read more

Que rico! The green sauce its spicy and excellent! We floor the mi tierrita special as recommended by multiple yelpers here. Pork loin, flank steak and rotisserie chicken. The meat had great flavor but I would have like it more had it been more moist. The empanadas are also decent although im partial yo the kinds of empanadas mad with pastry not papa, if you know what I mean. We shared an empanada app and the special and it was enough for 2 for $20 lunch. read more

This is my absolute favorite place! I have been dining here for quite some time, and I have never been disappointed. My usual dish is the Tongue and salsa. And it's reminds me of my mothers. So when I need to feel comforted, I go there. And it never disappointed me. However, the other day I went and for the first time in my History they had NONE! GASP! Well it forced me to try something else! OMG what no MAMA? So I tried the steak and salsa , ok So I didn't stray far.. But anyway I loved It! The steak was tender and the taste buds were delighted with flavor! The rice a beans are always DELISH and so is the sweet plaintain, and my avocado salad was too. My sangria is always great, and so was my service. Needless to say I have 4 dishes under my belt and I think I will go back and not be afraid to explore the other choices on their menu. Hey Mama cooked other meals too! read more

I have been coming here for years. I don't know what's going on there now. The quality of the meat has gone down , but that's not even as bad as how bad the device has gotten! Our food was brought out together( appetizer and meal) never checked on us to see if everything was okay, had to stop the manager for water. Over 20 minutes to get the check!!! I'm shocked at this!! I went with my Spanish class in November 2009. Delicioso!! The apreas are to die for. I had the chicken. (Yum) The portions are enough for two or three. The margarita's are the best.
