My wife and I had an absolutely wonderful meal here this afternoon. We had no reason to believe this place would be as incredibly good as it was. Our server (possibly the owner of the restaurant) was delightful and obviously very proud of her establishment and, once the food arrived, it was abundantly clear why. Everything was fresh and of excellent quality. Portions were extremely generous and served in an appealing manner. This may be a small little place that you could pass by 100 times and never notice, but after you've eaten there, I don't think you'll forget it. Stopped by the Chicken Coop recently. The food was good. I had a dish that came with white rice, chicharron, steak, sweet plantains, avocado and stopped with an over easy egg. The restaurant decor has a somewhat tropical theme with a stage for a DJ or a performer. The only downside to my experience was the service. It was slow. Slow to come over to take the orders, and slow to get the receipt. I attribute this to the waitress doing everything, including making the drinks. I ordered a rotisserie chicken and sweet plantains. When it arrived it was ice cold. When I tasted it it was absolutely disgusting! Dry and burnt! The plantains were also ice cold and very hard almost uncooked! I ended up throwing the entire meal in the garbage! Just disgusting I would not ever recommend this place to anyone! My cousin who lives in the area recommended this place for its beef empanadas. All 3 times I've been to Chicken Coop has been to order beef empanadas to go. Although this last time we tried their yucca fries and I loved them. The yucca fries are made with mashed cassava and have a crispy fried exterior. Though I've not tried much else I'll say this place is always packed! Parking is not easy! If you go early you might get lucky to find a parking spot. The service is hit and miss as far as take out. I'm not sure how it is when dinning inside/outside. They do have a few tables outside. I'll update this when I dine in. read more

We were in the area to see some friends who recommended this restaurant and ended up coming on a Sunday afternoon for lunch with a party of 6. We were able to be seated right away. The staff was nice, bilingual and able to answer all our questions and make the substitutions we requested. There is plenty of available seating, they have a full bar as well. I had the fresh mango juice with water which was delicious, my wife opted for passion fruit juice and she enjoyed it as well. As far as food, my wife went with the carne asada and substituted maduros for tostones. I had the breaded chicken with maduros, both came with a salad and rice and beans. Both were well seasoned but not salty, we really enjoyed the food, the servings were big but manageable. Came to this spot while visiting my godson and took him to eat here since it was the only thing close to Latin food in the area. Establishment was nice and clean as well as the service. The waitress was great and attentive. I ordered the flat iron grilled chicken (pechuga de pollo a la plancha) it came with rice, beans, a sweet plantains and a salad. Pretty good portion to fill you up and the food was delicious and satisfying. My godson had the breaded chicken with rice and beans and his mom had the Bandeja Paisa, all generous portions. My godsons mom insisted that I try some of the fried pork belly from her bandeja paisa which was very delicious. They usually do (quick) delivery.for me and I only had one bad experience when the driver was terribly late but she apologized and seemed genuinely contrite. Their spot is cozy (especially at evenings) and clean. I'm a fan of their family meal which includes: rice, potato, a whole chicken, beans and salad for days. This meal costs $27.95 with tax and when it's my turn to cook at home I get this, apply to home dishes, turn the stove on (it's better to play the game well), sprinkle some black or cayenne pepper and violà! My boyfriend and I went for a late lunch on a Saturday afternoon. Upon entering, the waitstaff just points to a table and you seat yourself. Not very professional. We ordered drinks which was very good, however the margaritas are too sweet. The passion fruit mojito so good though! We ordered calamari as an appetizer. It was terrible; no seasoning or flavor and it was extremely oily. It was like they just put it on the plate straight from the fryer without letting the oil drain first. It's a good spot for a quick meal. The waiters are quite courteous and easy going it seems. He convinced me to have the fried fish. I ate half not because it was not good but because I had yuca fries, tostones, and salad and I filled up nicely. I have been here before and the restaurant looks like they have many take out orders. Being a Colombian place in Valley Stream is not easy but with word of mouth they should do ok. I recommend people do come here. The Modelo Negra beer was $4 and was nice and cold and they serve it with a frosted ice glass. It hit the spot perfectly. They keep the place clean and the food fresh. Food is good but I didn't know when you order on their website for PICKUP they charge way more than if you call your order in or walk in. Apparently they didn't know either. They gave me the bill thinking I didn't pay and that's when I noticed I got charged an extra $10 smh. When I asked why, they said because of the card system. This made no sense since I was using card anyway. I asked for an extra tres leches cake at least to make up some of the difference. They said no and told me to call next time. My 4 star rating is mainly for the food not the service. Service isn't bad but it could be better. Dined in here recently on a quiet weeknight and received mediocre service by the waiter. The steak was huge, moist and cooked to perfection with a savory Spanish flavor. It was served steaming hot on one of those black metal pans, so it stayed hot for a while! My fiancé and I had dinner at Chicken Coop last night. The atmosphere was fun and lively with people watching the World Cup on the big screen. The menu is huge with so many options to choose from which made it difficult to decide what to order. I ultimately settled on the Bandeja Paisa and it was great. It's a massive platter of food and it was fun to eat. It came with some kind of grilled beef which I could have done without, white rice and beans, sweet plantain, chicharron, a fried egg, avocado and an arepa. The rice and beans were amazing. The beans had great flavor and were cooked to perfection. My fiancé ordered a whole rotisserie chicken and added an order of yellow rice and beans. He enjoyed it. Our servers were nice and pleasant. We initially ordered the green plantains with avocado for our appetizer, but there was a mix up in the kitchen and they wanted to bring it out with the entrees. I canceled the order because it would have been too much food at one time. I dont think they were too happy about that. Next time I'll specify to bring it out first. I happen to drive by this restaurant about two years ago and to my pleasant surprise it's Colombian. I'm a fan of Colombian food. It was early afternoon and there were plenty of available tables. I loved the decor because it's filled with authentic and traditional Colombian craftsmanship (artesanía). The staff could be friendlier but they get the job done. The food was very tasty and the servings are extremely generous. I've been ordering from them ever since and find their food to be consistent. They make an amazing chicharrón (Colombian style fries pork belly). It's never under cooked or over cooked. It's just perfectly crispy! Delicious...... However I do find them to be on the pricey side. I usually order the chicken coop bandeja and my husband and I share it because it's more than enough food for two. The restaurant itself used to be a McDonald's Express, but they made it a nice atmosphere complete with dim lighting, decorated walls, and a table that says Chicken Coop on it! What more can you ask for? The food isn't sophisticated, but you don't come here for that, you come here for good food at a decent price. I haven't been to this place in a long time and drove by it recently and was surprised it was stil open for busniss so I wanted to see if anyone felt as negative of this place as i do from my last experience. I want to correct someone else's review about this being a Peruvian place that would be a no from the last time i went there they only have a handful of plates from Peru and the rest i believe is Colombian or so i thought. I called one day to get food delievered and asked for the most typical Colombian plate "Bistec A Caballo" and the idoit on the phone made fun of my request and said she doesn't know what that was and that they don't make that, then asked her to confirm this is a Colombian place and that i had ordered this before. She confirmed this place was Colombian but then told me i was wrong and no such plated existed. From there it just got worse talking to this dummy she just didn't pay much attention to the rest of the phone call and so i hung up. Never will step foot into this place. read more
