Torta de Torta Mil Hojas
Hans W.

It's been a while since I have had some genuine food from the country I was born in and was raised until I was 7 years old. For Chileans I think the closest and most intimate way we become one with our culture is through our cuisine. Which is why I had to go and had me a Churrasco, an Empanada de Pino, a salad, and the best of all a slice of Torta De Mil Hojas! The last time I had visited San Antonio Bakery was when they still had the spot in Astoria, which was a 25 minute bike ride across the Tri Boro Bridge from my neighborhood in the Upper West side. The food is still very good and always enjoy being brought back to my roots. Now, why the 3 stars. Well, sorry, I'm not sure what the Mandate is in Valley Stream but not one, and I mean not one, of the wait staff was wearing masks. I mean, we still have a Covid19 pandemic, and yes I know Long Island seems to think this pandemic thing is all a farce, but come on now man. Also no outside seating was offered, and yes inside seating was at 25% capacity. I mean if the owner sees this post, I'll ask you now: Why isn't anyone wearing masks? Porque ninguna de la gente atendiendo las mesas estaba usando mascaras? I should have asked them right then and there. Some Chileans reading this may think I'm being a snitch, but I'm just thinking what about the people that go to the restaurant whom have not been vaccinated and have a waiter taking their order maskless? It's a risk for sure. So that's it. Great food as always but we still have a pandemic going on, and like I said I'm not sure what the mandate is in Valley Stream but in NYC your establishment is shut down if wait staff and others are maskless.

Ok, so I passed this place s bunch of times, not realizing that it is a restaurant and has been here for 23 Years! Enter to a beautiful bakery counter. Brick wall facing. The elegant owner acknowledges your presence with, "Caballero, I will be right with you". The Italiano is more of a Chicago type hot dog w avocado, mayo, tomato. Delicious tasty Churrasco = steak, avocado tomato, mayo. My favorite. Barros Luci = steak and cheese. Sandwiches are delicious. Come hot sauce, onion and tomato. All of the sandwiches and empanadas are made with the fresh bread made on the premises. Just the bread alone is so good! Mind you. This review is based on a take out experience. They have wine. The other side of the place has a small dainty restaurant. This place is The Joint! Come! Eat! Enjoy!

The food is unbelievable; the service is amazing. You have to try this place. I recommend the pastel de choclo (it's a classic) and the chuple del marisco was really good. Honestly, everything was good. If you're a dessert person, the tres leches cake will please everyone and the torta de mil hojas is for those in the know. If you've never had Chilean or Peruvian food, please make this place your first stop to try it!

I was so curious to get some bread from this spot after reading so many great reviews So I went in and immediately saw the pastries in the window as well as a nice woman at the pastry counter who asked me if she could help me I inquired about a cake and she told me they had tres leches and another type of cake that was in the pastry area I decided on their tres leches cake and also bought a few of their freshly made breads Can I just tell you that the breads were delish!! And when my family had the cake over the weekend my dad who is so picky wanted to know where I got the cake from I am now a fan of this gem bakery in my neighborhood!!

All for $7! Freshly baked bread of all kinds

Sometimes...when things taste so good....it's hard to find the right words. BUT, I'm gonna try anyways. *cheesy smile* Oh the Chilean bread here, the perfect balance of toasty on the outside, fluffy goodness on the inside. Very fresh and filling. Now you may say- Samantha, that's the same for all kinds of bread. YES but NO, sir/mam. This isn't Italian or French or your local grocery bread. There is an art these people do with their bread that makes you thank your sense of taste. And the bread you buy is the same they use for their churrasco sandwiches (which is a whole 'notha level of goddamn goodness. Juicy steak strips and extra guac with mayo and tomato... whoa whoa whoa...I'm getting off topic...back to bread.) To the reader who is reading this (hello), I recommend you walk in and try it yourself. Whether you want something sweet (plenty of mouthwatering desserts) to something savory (THE RESTAURANT IS NEXT DOOR) or just homemade fresh bread.... Please do yourself a favor and walk inside this hidden gem. Thank me later.

Great service and great food! Their Peruvian Pisco Sour was the best I have ever had!! It's definitely a cocktail worth ordering.

Cute little place. Didn't even know it was a restaurant and I've passed this place for a few years now. Food was good. Towards the end they took a little long but over all good service, tasty food and good drinks. Beef stew was amazing

Since I've left Chile, it's been near impossible to find a Chilean restaurant, but this place is is by far the best one I've had. There's been a few in NYC over the years, but this place is the top one which has survived all these years and for good reason. It is authentic Chilean food and more importantly BREAD BREAD BREAD! They offer complimentary bread to go with your meal, it is served hot with butter and pebre. The food is delicious and the prices are reasonable. Come early if you're looking to try more Chilean breads, as they sell out quickly. Aside from the restaurant, it is a bakery. A MUST visit. Visit Chile with your taste buds without living the NYC/LI area.

That is NOT a typical Chilean empanada... that's called cheap.

Eh. If you have the time just hop in your car on a Sunday morning, pay the bridge price and take a nice ride to Tarrytown. The taste is not there (i am Chilean) and the prices are ridiculous for what you are getting. Second time I've been here since I moved to Long Island and I was quickly reminded why it took me 3 years to go back a second time. The place is clean minus the walls for those wondering.

We came here for a quick lunch before heading out to queens. The service was efficient and professional. The meat empanadas were good as well as the churassco sandwich. Good location & a lot of open space if you came here with a larger group of people.

So my Chilean best friend took me out for lunch and he's been telling me about this "authentic" chilean restaurant out in long island. He took the liberty of ordering a bunch of stuff from the menu and we were barely able to finish half of the food. +Their Pisco Sour is amazing. They served it in flute glasses and added a sugar rim to the flutes and it has a very lemony taste to it. Quite refreshing for the summertime. +Their beef empanadas are baked and not fried at all, which I love. These are the same kinds his mom used to make for me every year. Also, they have cheese and shrimp empanadas that are fried and the crust was amazing. It has so much flavor compared to any ones I've tried. +The Chilean hot dog looks messy but it's covered with deliciousness of guacamole and salsa. +Their abalones were amazing and fresh, but I'm not a fan of dipping it in mayo. +He also ordered this corn grits that had beef filings inside. It's a little more watery compared to other Chilean restaurants he's taken me to, but nonetheless really good. We used to go to this place in Woodhaven in Queens, but they have closed down. Now we know where to get our Chilean fix. =)

For those who are not aware: Layers is a Pakistani bakeshop chain that is absolutely delicious!…read more The Elmont location is quite small, and more of a grab and go situation, but the variety of flavors is truly unique. Choose items like Cadbury chocolate brownies, Biscoff or Raffelo cupcakes, or even sundae cups! Seeing as though there were only 2 left, I ordered a Belgian Chocolate Malt cupcake for about tree fiddy (no joke) and was on my way. The cupcake was superb. The base is a nice, moist chocolate cake. But the frosting is where it truly shines. It was so rich and malty, it was like eating a soft Malteser. What's even better is that the size is not obscene, so you're felt feeling satisfied but not overwhelmed. Service was polite. And if you're not in the Elmont area, no worries as there are now a few locations on the island. Would gladly recommend them for your bakeshop needs!

I used to visit Amato years ago and got custom cakes from them...and they were well made and tasted…read moregood. However, I stopped going because I ordered cakes and they were just done very sloppily and weren't worth the money I was being charged. Last week, I decided I'd give them another chance because I want to support local businesses and it was the biggest mistake of my life. I don't ever want to review a business to harm them but I really think they need to take some feedback and implement that into their business. I ordered a gender reveal cake, something small and simple and specifically told them to make sure the writing on the cake was done neatly as I remember one of the previous cakes I had gotten the writing was not neat. The person taking my order asked me if I'd like whip outside or buttercream and I asked what they recommended because I'd only done buttercream before and they said if you're doing whip inside then it's fine to do whip outside. I said ok. Placed my order and went in to pick it up. As soon as I saw the cake I was horrified. The writing was so sloppy and so was the cake. It was as if I made the cake myself. I asked them to fix the writing on top at least. They said ok the baker will fix it. She brings it outside and said it's whip so I can't do much but buttercream would be better (it was worse than when she had taken it inside) I said ok you can do it in buttercream no problem. Brings it back outside and it's still sloppier than ever. I said this is not neat at all, and she said well it's what I can do it looks just like the picture. I said no it does not ( I will attach the picture for reference) and the baker goes "well what can I do this is how I write?" In that moment I just knew they were not willing to help at all. I had already paid in full for the cake so I took it and left. Come home to see that this is supposed to be a gender reveal cake and you can LITERALLY see the icing inside the cake from outside. It doesn't matter if you pay $40 for a cake or $100+ you should be getting what you requested. This was a simple cake that they completely ruined. When I texted her the picture I emphasized that I'd like the writing to be as neat as possible, and I was reassured it would be. Also, if you as the professional know whip won't work as well, why not call the customer and discuss with them prior to ruining the product you are providing. The excuses did not make sense. I will not be returning. And I hope they can take this feedback and improve their cake decorating process. The cake went to waste and we had to improvise last minute.
