They have massive portions and great prices, so you really get a great bang for your buck here. I ordered the small, as I came on foot and didn't want to carry leftovers with me. Well, like I said, the portions are huge so I ended up taking half to get anyhow! The flavors, the service, the quaint ambiance... I seriously love La Calidad. The staff are super welcoming and even though my spanish is rather juvenile, they're always helping me practice. 5-stars in my book, in every way possible. When you walk in, there is a bar on your right with cute flowers hanging around the area, and lots of tables on the left side. We started off the meal by ordering beef empanadas which took about 15 min to get to us. They are a must to start off your meal. They were full of potato and meat and very flavorful. They were a good size. The food came about an hour after we sat down, around 10:40pm. I'm not sure if they usually take this long, or because a lot of people went there after the concert. We ordered the Picadita, which comes with tostones, chicharrón, steak, morcilla, and chorizo. The Frijolada came with rice and egg, beef, avocado, chorizo, bits of chicharrón. Both were delicious, no complaints. The meat was tender and not chewy at all. If I'm ever in the area, I would come back to the restaurant.

We had the Mini Paisa, and don't let the word "mini" fool you . The portion was HUGE! We ended up taking almost half of it home. They had salsa music playing, which added to the authentic, fun atmosphere. The restaurant was pretty empty when we went, so service was very quick, and everyone was extremely kind. There was a little bit of a language barrier--the staff didn't speak much English and I don't speak Spanish--but honestly, nothing Google Translate and sounding out the menu couldn't fix! We made it work with no problem. The margaritas were delicious . The sangria wasn't really for me, but I'd absolutely order another margarita. And my son LOVED the chocolate drink! Great food, BIG portions, quick service, kind staff, and an authentic Colombian experience. We left full, happy, and with plenty of leftovers!

If you're just normally hungry, skip it because the entrées are more than enough. I had the steak with mushrooms and onions. The steak itself was cooked well, but I would've loved more mushrooms, and personally I think it would pair much better with rice and beans instead of French fries. The chicken options also felt a little limited compared to the long list of steak dishes. The appetizers could use some love too. Three empanadas on a plate and calling it an appetizer felt a little... phoned in. Give us a little flair! Service was a bit confusing because it seemed like everyone was helping every table, so we never really knew who our actual server was. We asked for the check because we had a show to get to, got an "okay," and then watched our server head over to another table first. Cue everyone checking their watches. The drinks were tasty, but I'm still on the fence about whether they were freshly made or not. Overall? It was a decent experience. The portions are generous, the steaks are the star of the menu, and there's definitely potential here. Would I rush back? Maybe not. Would I tell you not to go? Also no. This is one of those places where you'll have to grab a fork and decide for yourself.

I ordered one of their signature arepas: The Joint and it was great. It was juicy, packed with a good amount of food and was a nice combination of flavors. As a plantain enthusiast this was the perfect arepa for me. 1 arepa would be filling for the average person. My boyfriend ordered the El Poco Loco for us to split which I wasn't too crazy about - it reminded me of a crispy chicken sandwich and I didn't care for the sauce on this. I didn't bother to eat this after the first bite. Additionally I got to try the tres leches and this was better than I expected. I'm always hesitant to try tres leches because there are so many ways to prepare it. This way was more classic and simple with just the cake and the 3 milks at the bottom. It came served in a square dessert cup. It felt a little small for the price but the taste was worth it. My only constructive feedback for the cake is that the cake would be even better if it was a little less dry as far as texture but that can be hard to balance as you don't want the cake to become too wet over time due to it soaking in the milk. I can't wait to revisit: I'll be getting the tres leches again and would love to try the El Guey.
