My mother and I stumbled in on a Sunday afternoon and picked up a few pastries. The chocolate twist we got was scrumptious with a cup of tea it was perfectly flaky and mildly sweet. The raspberry one was quite good as well. The cheese danish had such promise but tasted mostly like lemon and perfumes. The cannoli crispy croissant thing was yummy but also looked a lot better than it tasted. Rude owners Over priced items they don't treat the staff very nice either very disappointing

I went in to pick up a Tres Leches Cake on 11/15/23 @4:30pm for my daughter's birthday. When I called they told me they always had them so I didn't have to place an order. They asked what to write on the cake and I told them. The service thus far was excellent. I noticed and mentioned to my husband that the black out cake in the showcase is my favorite. As for the cake, I cut the first slice and gave it to my daughter, she immediately said it was dry and she did not like how it tasted. I continued to slice and share out to my family who all stated it didn't taste right. My mother thought it had lemon essence! When I finally had a taste I had to spit it out, the cake tasted like spoiled sour milk! I say sour because the cake was not fresh, it was dry and tasted like spoiled milk. Just completely gross. It is a horrid taste to have in your mouth. My daughter (15) was very disappointed. I'm reached out via Yelp's messaging that night because I wanted to hear what ownership/management had to say and how they would deal with this. Needless to say it is now 11/21/23 and I have not had a response. I did consider taking the remaining cake and slices (I put them back in the box) back and asking them to taste it, but didn't want to be confrontational. I ordered a strawberry shortcake for my wife's birthday earlier this week from Il Corso. This was my first custom cake order with the bakery. The cake was bone dry and had only one thin layer of strawberry gel in the center. It looked and tasted cheap. There wasn't a single strawberry inside either, just the red flavored gel. They only put a few as decoration on top. The only compliment I have is that the whipped cream was delicious. It doesn't do much good though if the cake portion is nearly inedible. I expected much more for a small cake costing over $30. I have a feeling they just took a cake off of the shelf that didn't sell and wrote "Happy Birthday" on it. Very disappointed. Not only are his everyday pastries and cookies a complete hit with my family, but this past weekend he made a BEAUTIFUL cake for my daughters Communion and I could not have been happier with how beautiful it came out. I was looking forward to trying this bakery after reading the positive reviews. I ordered red velvet cake with cream cheese filling. I was told that they cannot make the entire cake with cream cheese frosting which was disappointing. The filling didn't have cream cheese taste at all. I also ordered macaroons which were overly sweet. I'm sure their cookies and cannoli tastes better as it's Italian owned. I hope they'll take my review into consideration and improve. Save yourself the headache and go to Little Sugar Shop down the street. I verbally told the staff what I wanted and confirmed twice with the girl taking my order. I also emailed the bakery an exact picture that I wanted, I was told it would be done. When I called to pick up the cake they said they would be getting it ready for me to pick up. I drive to Rockaway and notice the street is closed, being so busy with a bridal shower and the preparations I didn't know all the roads were blocked surrounding the bakery. I couldn't get close enough to the bakery to carry the cake comfortably to my car, as I was alone. I called and asked the closest street to get as close as I could, I couldn't understand why the counter person couldn't tell me that streets were closed directly in front of their shop. I asked if they had anyone to help me carry it to my car as they had boxed it in an awkward manner so I couldn't even see in front of me. Nobody was available to help me carry the cake the three blocks I needed. Now on to the actual cake, the cake was not anything like I had ordered, it was actually ugly to me, and not going with the theme in mind. I told the counter girl that it was not what I ordered and she just looked at me. Obviously I was not getting anywhere with her. After reading the reviews again, I notice a pattern and hold myself accountable, I will never visit this shop again and continue to recommend little sugar shop as opposed to this thoughtless and unprofessional establishment. This place is a total rip off. We ordered a cake for my son's birthday party. We went in person and placed the order with Aldo. We asked for a firetruck cake and showed him a few pics while explaining what we wanted. He quickly accepted the order and asked us to send him photographs of what we wanted via email. He seemed confident in his ability to make the cake. We send the emails, like we agreed, and although there was some confusion when we called to see if the emails were received, the girl over the phone confirmed they indeed got the email. This was like 3 weeks in advance. My husband goes to pick up the cake the day of our event, which was supposed to be ready at 10am. He showed up at 9:55am and the staff at the shop seemed annoyed that he showed up 5 minutes early. My husband was told the cake was not ready and to please come back in 15 minutes. He leaves and runs a few errands and is back by 10:30am. He was told again the cake isn't ready and waited around until finally they hand over a BLUE cake with sloppy writing all over. It looked nothing like what we requested!!! We paid in full and it is already day of and at this point my husband is upset because the cake is not what we agreed on. Aldo himself was behind the counter and actually had the nerve to get upset at my husband until my husband showed him the email. Aldo was trying to say my husband never asked for a firetruck cake. Instead of admitting his mistake he tried desperately to make my husband be in the wrong. They then rushed to make a new cake .... basically slapped on a blurry printed copy of what maybe could have passed for a firetruck photograph on a cake and threw together some piping. I could have baked my own cake with the money we gave him and made it look better. It looked absolutely terrible but to top this off the cake was mostly cream. We asked for peaches and cream and instead got a few peaches here and there.... most slices got nothing but cream. What terrible service. What a horrible cake. They could have admitted that the cake we requested was out of their league but instead they were eager to collect our payment. There was zero care for their customer and what we wanted in their product. Never again will we waste our money at this establishment. read more

My friend bought a $1.79 sprinkle cookie which seemed to be old, stale, and MOLDED on the bottom! We bought back the cookie to show them and they said the cookies were suppose to be hard like that. We asked to replace the cookie for another that wasn't so old but they refused. Finally the owner came out and threw the money on the counter and stated "WE DO NOT WANT YOUR KIND HERE ANYMORE". My family and I went in person to this pastry shop to order a cake for my son's birthday party. The owner of the shop attended me while my wife watched over my boys. We discussed the cake and how I wanted it. There seemed to be a language barrier but he seemed eager to take the order. I felt like he got an idea of what we wanted in a cake and even requested I send him pictures of what we wanted so he could do the cake just like we want. Once the details of the cake were in place and I paid for the cake in full we figured we would take advantage of the trip and ordered a few cookies, pastries and my wife ordered a dozen macaroons (she had never tasted them before) She was so excited to taste them that she broke into the box on our trip back home. I know she was disappointed but didn't want to hurt my feelings. We paid over a dollar per macaroon. Later on she admitted that they had no taste and felt stale. The kids barely touched any of the cookies and I basically spend my money on items that were nibbled on and then ended up in the trash. I prayed it wasn't a foreshadow for the future... I hoped they were just having a bad day. Unfortunately that was what happened. The cake was not ready on time and I had to come back twice only to get handed a sloppy cake that was the opposite of what I ordered! Rather than correct their mistakes they made me out to be the bad guy, claiming I never ordered the specific cake I wanted, even though I had an email which proved we were all in agreement with this cake. You would think with all the inconveniences that they would at the very least be apologetic. They were happy to take my money but definitely showed no interest in actually completing my order. They slapped a cake together with a xeroxed copy on top and called it a day. The filling was subpar ... like they didn't mix it well. We ordered a peaches and cream. There was a few peaches in the cake but mostly it was just mouthfuls of cream. I should have known from their previous pastries that they are unable to fulfill big orders. They are eager to take your money but either do not have the talent or the skills to actually make a fresh quality cake. I was fooled by the few good reviews and their cake pictures (even though those are below average in comparison to other bakeries) I figured I could save a few bucks and get a nice product. I went to get a cake made for my daughters birthday. They made me wait and attended several customers that came after me. After waiting about ten minutes I was frustrated and ask them why am I waiting while they attend to customers who walked in after me. The staff that was there who made me wait went and got an older gentleman whom I presume was the owner. Great bakery!! Everything taste fresh, such a selection of pastries ,cookies and cakes. My daughters wedding cake looked beautiful and tasted delicious too. My grandchildrens baptism cake were just as beautiful and yummy.... Next time ur in valleystream stop at this bakery and u wont be disappointed, the home made gelato on a hot summer day was just what i needed, the lobster tails r off the chart!!! read more
