This establishment was originally Reister's in West Hempstead for decades. I haven't been there since the new owners took over, but judging by the business they're doing, the quality must be the same. An interesting place to view the different cake designs. They used to have a small restaurant in the back and the food was great. They closed that section years ago. Will be going there soon. read more

It's been a few years since I have walked into the Cake Gallery but tonight we ordered a box full of their absolutely stupendous jelly "donuts" for the holiday. It would be hard to say donut because they are so much more, really like a cronut if that name had not already been taken. It looks like a mid sized croissant covered in regular sugar and loaded with delicious jelly..at 1.50 this is the best rendition and price of any treat I have seen in a while,at a time when fancy donuts are close to 3.50 a piece. These are simply amazing and the owner is always so nice The Cake Gallery has been on Jerusalem Ave in North Bellmore for a decade and is nestled in a small row of stores with ample diagonal parking and a rear lot. It is worth the trip to check them out if you've not been. read more

I ordered a cake from this bakery about a week in advance for my boyfriends birthday. I ordered a funfetti cake with vanilla butter cream frosting and a special decoration on the outside to go with the theme of the party. We picked it up the day of the party and it looked absolutely beautiful and it was just what I ordered. Later on in the day, when it came time to eat the cake, I realized this was not at all the cake I had ordered. It was NOT funfetti cake, but instead it was lemon cake that looked like they had just tossed funfetti sprinkles in the frosting. This was of course disappointing, as it was not what I ordered and no one at the party liked/wanted lemon cake. My boyfriend tried not to let it bother him and I put more than half of the cake aside so I could bring it back. The next morning, I called the bakery and explained the situation to them and they told me to bring the cake in and I would be refunded- they did not indicate that it would be any sort of issue. I drove over 30 minutes to bring the cake back and when I showed them the cake, the man I spoke to was extremely rude and tried to tell me that the FUNFETTI cake I ordered was supposed to have a "hint" of lemon flavor in it- that they use multiple flavors and it was intentional, and could have been from the decorations that were on top of the cake. First of all, this was not a HINT of lemon. This was full blown lemon cake. So much so, that people were assuming I actually ordered a lemon cake. Second of all, I have ordered funfetti cakes and cupcakes from numerous bakeries in the past, and made funfetti cakes myself, and I have NEVER had any that even slightly had any hint of lemon in it, no matter what design i wanted on top (shout out Dortoni- best funfetti cake). When I explained this, the man then offered to give me $50 store credit. To which I said no, I would like a refund. He argued with me for a bit but eventually gave me my money back and told me "don't ever come back here again". (Although he sure wanted me back there 30 seconds earlier when he was prepared to offer store credit) I am still in shock that he spoke to a customer like that!!! I wasn't planning on going back there anyway, obviously, but I still cannot believe the way I was treated by them when it was THEIR mistake in the first place. So, so unprofessional to say the least. I wasn't even going to leave a negative review- I just wanted my money back since I paid $85 for a cake I did not order, nor did we even like it- like I said, over half was still left, it's not like I went back there with a tiny sliver of cake. But when I was told to never come back ever again, instead of receiving an apology that they completely messed up the cake, I decided to write a review. Absolutely unbelievable. They clearly should not be in the customer service industry. read more

The Cake Gallery never ceases to amaze. The incredible cake he designed for my Grandma's birthday was exactly what we wanted. He really can do anything, but the prices are fairly high as you add to the design. This is understandable considering the time and effort required and the final product is worth it for a special occasion. The cake tasted fresh and the fillings were yummy. I cannot rate this place as far as taste is concerned because the baker was so rude as he was taking my order that I just walked out. When I walked inside this bakery I noticed that the display shelves were empty. On one side, they had these Elmo cookies that looked as if they were there for awhile. On the other side they had a few cakes and pastries, but nothing special. The man that was taking orders was rushing me and seemed very impatient. The cake was for my son's first birthday and was told he couldn't draw Disney characters because he didn't have a "copyright" for Disney..and suggested that I find a baker who has one. I'm very big on customer service and believe that without any respect for customers, it can hurt your business. I'm picky about mine (texture, moistness, sweetness, chocolate, etc.), so this means they're good and I'd order again. Jam-filled croissants - a sinful treat. If you like jelly doughnuts, then you'll get the gist of this. A little sweet for me to have more than one, but worth a try. Chocolate chip cookie - no complaints: LOTS of chocolate chunks, consistency is between chewy with a bit of crunch. Something simple made well. Strawberry cake pop - would skip this. Although the cake batter was moist, I don't think I'm a fan of the strawberry flavored cake. Cheesecake - I didn't try this one, but my fiance did and said it was delicious. I saw someone picking up their custom cake and it looked great. I'll keep that in mind if I ever needed a custom cake design. I'd go back. Definitely. read more

I recommend this bakeshop if you want that old time bakery. A taste that I haven't encountered in years.... Growing up my Grandfather who was an old time German baker would bring treats home for me. Especially those giant chocolate chip cookies. Since his retirement I have been searching years for a bakeshop that made that same cookie. I've been searching for high and low on a place that is not only a piece of art but also taste amazing. After all what is the point of buying a cake for a few hundred dollars and end up getting something that's pretty but dry and tasteless. Making cake pretty and also tasty is an art. An art I would love to learn bc I can decorate or I can bake. I can't seem to be able to do both. Aside from the tasty piece of art work - the customer service of this place is superb. When I needed to order my cake, my kids got sick and I couldn't get to the store. Tom the owner was kind enough to figure it all out with me via email and phone. Bought 12 "jelly donuts".....and I say that lightly ....had to buy a minimum of 12 if it was not a fri sat or sun . Ok...i was fine with that .. when my husband brought home the box i was a bit stunned on how they possibly fit 12 donuts in this small box ..opened it and i really dont know what the hell they were ...some croissant shaped thing , stuffed with so much jelly you couldn't even taste the pastry , not that you would want to anyway ...they were soooooo greasy, u could see it and smell it ..and soooo small.... the paper in the box was grease covered....THEY WERE DISGUSTING...so disappointed....actually , didnt even deserve one Star. I agree with an earlier review someone wrote. Although I am sure the cakes are delicious the owner was beyond rude. So in my opinion customer service is far more important. The owner seemed annoyed that I was only giving him two weeks notice and didn't want to speak on a Saturday. It was as if HE was doing ME a favor, I was about to order a pricey cake! How about taking down my number to call me on Monday and/or hiring some more staff to take orders?!?! I went to Dortoni where they had friendly staff while still having about 30 people waiting- they took 30 minutes plus reviewing my cake with me, let me text them pictures and didn't rush me even with all of those people waiting...not to mention the cake was around $300 less that the rude owner quoted me from this shop when he quickly gave me a price before I left. I have a job where I am pulled in 50 directions but relax and breathe- without customers you don't have a business! read more
