My hubby had found this little gem last year and we decided to take a little trip this past weekend. Not a bad drive from mid-Queens, it was about 20-30 minutes out of our way. While on a corner on a pretty busy street, the location seemed slightly obscure. No parking - just 2 or 3 spots in front of the establishment. We came mid-day on a gloomy Sunday in February...so we didn't have an issue parking right in the front. We were greeted by the friendly associate. There were lots of great-looking gelato flavors which the associate also allowed us to sample first (very kind). She was very patient with us and really seemed to enjoy working there. We're BIG hazelnut enthusiasts, so we each had one scoop of hazelnut flavor and one of the Rocher (hazelnut) flavor. They also had an amazing fig and honey gelato flavors which was absolutely delicious. They offer 4 sizes - kids' size, and then the usual - small, medium and large. The small is 2 generous scoops - and that's what we went with. The overall experience didn't disappoint at all; we thoroughly enjoyed the treat, my hubby had an espresso coffee as well (very good) and we got a kids cup of vanilla for our pup. The prices were also decent and for this type of experience, I will gladly support a small business. I definitely recommend checking out this little gem. They have indoor and outdoor seating. I walked in and was instantly greeted. Their sizes depend on how many flavors you can get in that cup. I went with a large 3 flavor cup and chose rainbow cookie, cannoli and s'mores. The rainbow cookie was my favorite of the three. And they put a little tiny cone on top which was cute. read more

Wow! Do people know about this place? On my birthday weekend, I decided to drive - further than usual - to check out new gelato places that receive excellent yelp ratings. Dolce Gelateria in Franklin Square , off New Hyde Park Road, did not disappoint. Coffee and mint chip were outstanding. Even compared to two other highly rated yelp reviewed places on Long Island. On a broiling hot Sunday, the Small for me and Medium for friend did the trick. We are definitely coming back to sample more of our favorite flavors. First time visit and was absolutely floored by the delicious gelato! It took me right back to the streets of Italy a few years ago with a gelato is everywhere! Delicious delicious gelato!!! We had tried the fig and honey which had walnuts and little bits of figs, along with the cherry vanilla along with the milk chocolate and biscotti! I had gotten the regular size and was quite pleased that it wasn't a ginormous cup of ice cream! It was perfectly sized at I want to say around 8 ounces give or take and priced at around $4.50. The inside of the shop was very cute and decorated with cute and colorful photos on the walls. They also had little hand sanitizers at each table and 6 ft markers when waiting on line. The staff were all very friendly as well. At the time that we had left around 8:15 there was a small line outside but that's no surprise after trying the gelato! My personal favorites are the Fig & Honey with chunks of figs and walnuts, the Strawberry tastes like they crushed them right out of the ground and the Stracciatella is permeated with chunks of chocolate throughout. Family members further enjoyed Vanilla, Dark Chocolate and the Oreos. Had to get a cup of fresh imported Italian Latte to wake of from the delicious comatose state thr gelato left us in. They also had a few flavors of imported Italian sodas, like Limon, Chinotto and an orange flavor and the Red Bitter Stappi, which is BITTER. It does have a grapefruit note. Overall I think this is a nice spot if you're looking for a good scoop of gelato! The milk chocolate was creamy and not super strong which I liked. Mixed berry was so refreshing, it tasted more like a sorbet (water based) versus gelato (cream based). It was delicious but just wanted to point that out in case you are expecting a creamy berry flavor. There was a heart shaped cone included in my bag, very cute aesthetically and the cone was crispy as it should be! I think I tasted a bit of citrus. However i have made gelato and also had it in Italy.l and at some other gelato eatablishments. In italy it is traditional to serve it on brioche bun. So when i saw they offered that i was already invested in my decision to make. I opted for cookies and cream and rocher flavor. This place needs to be more creamy. Crop top szn may be over for me! I can't believe I have never stopped in this gelateria until yesterday. It was a hot & lazy Sunday and I was craving something cold and creamy, so gelato it was! Dolce Gelateria is located on Franklin Avenue, closer to the Hempstead Turnpike side (if you aren't from the area). It's street parking only, and I think that's one of the reasons I did not go sooner. Parking on Franklin Ave is pretty difficult. I was lucky tho, I decided to try my luck on a Sunday around 2pm and during a big graduation weekend. Franklin Ave was practically empty and I was able to park right on Franklin Ave by the pet store. I'm sure you can circle around and find a spot by the residential areas, I just get hangry and have road rage. When I walked in, I was greeted right away. The store was empty except the for 2 employees behind the counter. One of the employees, Nancy, asked if it was my first time here. When I told her indeed it was, she right away offered me samples of some of her favorite flavors. Little did Nancy know, I already stalked their menu online and knew what I had wanted walking in, however, Nancy threw a curveball and told me to try the fig & honey flavor and OMG it was AMAZING. I decided to get a large (duh, who wouldn't) and was told I could get 3 flavors. I went with the Rocher (as in Ferrero Rocher), Italian Rainbow Cookie, and the Fig & Honey. I also got another large cup with Strawberry, Coconut, and Biscotti (that was one of the flavors I initially wanted but it got replaced by the fig). (2) large cups came out to $15.10. The whole time I was there I felt very welcomed by Nancy. She was so friendly and hospitable that I really thought she was the owner. She told me she wasn't but her BIL was. The store itself is soooooooo aesthetic and cute. They have a few small tables inside and outside as well. Definitely very Instagram worthy. Store looked bright and spotless. Their gelato is best described as milk turned into bliss. It achieved the glorious paradox of rich and creamy yet remarkably light. I definitely prefer gelato over ice cream during the hot summer months b/c it's airier and softer. All 3 of the flavors I got were delicious. I definitely LOVED the fig & honey. The Rocher was also amazing. The italian rainbow cookie was good but as not memorable as the other 2. My mom said the 3 flavors she got were outstanding as well. I definitely will be back to try the rest of the flavors. They have so many classic flavors as well as a few oddball flavors that sound extraordinaryly unique. I saw you could also order the gelato inside a brioche bun which sounds yummy, I'll definitely want to try that too. If you haven't been here, GO GO GO!!! read more

Recommended by some neighbors and this is now definitely our new place for desserts! The girls that work there were super friendly and encouraged us to try their flavors before committing. The prices were reasonable for the portion size and it came with this cute heart shaped cookie with every cup of gelato. I got the fig n honey, rainbow cookie and pistachio. All were amazing but I think the fig n honey and pistachio stole the show, the rainbow cookie was a tad too sweet. My husband ordered cannoli cream, hazelnut and rocher flavor. Hazelnut was amazing, the cannoli did not taste like cannoli cream but it was still good. They have cute cafe style seating and outdoor seating as well. They have a great variety of flavors, like the fig and honey, I tried for the first time today and it was DELICIOUS; super creamy and the taste was out of this world. I also bought strawberry and Rocher for later, which are my faves as well. I had gelato for the first time and this place made me fall in love with it. The figs and honey is one of the best flavors I had. I tried later on another place but was disappointed. My friend and me literally waited outside the store one day to have it for brunch but had to leave because of an appointment we had and wished it opened sooner!
