I don't give 3 stars often and I am a BIG sweet tooth. Especially when store has desi flavors I want to support! 1. Patented donut bun - mine was like a giant loaf of chala sweet bread... not a donut and did not compliment the rolled ice cream. The texture and temp did not match the giant roll of ice cream (the bread was lukewarm and didn't break apart or melt into the ice cream like a donut could). It had a weird vanilla smell like it was stale, couldn't eat with the ice cream. 2. Love the preservative free ice cream. Would love more toppings like mochi and to try a lavender flavor 3. My mom had the falooda flavor and we love falooda, but the basil seeds in the ice cream didn't work for her. There was a wait and the initial staff wasn't helpful but that's besides the point. I'd want to come back but I don't have the heart to do it. Having pop up ice cream in various modes (rolled, etc) and big chain ice creams (vegan, no cream etc) and trying at many food markets, big and small, trying ice cream in other cities... what was this?

3.5 stars - extra points for the service. There are quite a few dessert options in this neighborhood so it's a matter of what your craving is. My kiddo wanted rolled ice cream on this mild Winter evening so the search was on. Found this spot on Yelp and was happy to get to stop in to try. One mini cup (5 oz) of rolled ice cream - "wonderfilled" which was cookies and cream (for me). Topped with Oreo crumbs and I asked for one teddy graham. The staff is actually very generous with the toppings as a patron after me just kept asking and she obliged until it didn't fit. The second item we got was the cookie Sammie. Two nicely warmed red velvet cookies paired with rolled ice cream and birthday cake topping (rainbow sprinkles). Ice cream was not particularly memorable but still good. It hit the spot for something sweet. The staff were really nice. Each member serves one customer given each order takes time. If you can, order ahead and then go pickup.

I wanted dessert and decided to venture into a different dessert outside of Buttercooky. We ventured into Sweet Charlie's, and when we walked in, it was an ice cream roll spot. We got the regular Namaste and Rochering is Caring cup, which is $8.99 each. It's definitely pricey. Each cup was made in-house and fresh to order. They also have other options, such as warm cookies, and those can be made into ice cream sandwiches. There are also liege Waffles and soft serve custards.

Falooda

one of our favorite dessert spots! we like the rolled ice cream, specifically the falooda flavor with basil seeds, topped with fruity pebbles. they also serve warm cookies (M&m, chocolate chip etc) and can make cookie ice cream sandwiches. the staff is super friendly and service is very quick. they have chairs to sit and enjoy your treat too. tip: try the falooda! &if you get a cookie ice cream sandwich- ask for the ice cream on the side so it doesn't get soggy

Sweet Charlie's is a wonderful surprise The ice cream is flavorful and the toppings are fresh. Both the cookies and waffles come out warm to order. Special thanks to Henish for letting the kids watch

This place is amazing and I am giving him five solid stars after just one visit. The stars are based upon the easy in and easy out to Hillside Avenue, the incredible staff they have there, how bright and spacious establishment is, and unbelievably delicious taste of what they serve. A few of us stopped in to say hello and introduce ourselves. Since it was quiet in the afternoon, HIren, the owner gave us a tour of how everything works here. Without a doubt, it's a very impressive place. The "rolled ice cream" is really a novel idea and without a doubt DELICIOUS. All my friends had shakes while I went for the small cup. Watching them prepare this was simply fascinating. He explained how everything is fresh, fresh and fresh. You actually watch them assemble the ice cream that they eventually roll up and put in the cup. (please see photos). The mint-oreo was outstanding. I can not recommend this great local shop enough and was happy to see that they were recognized by the Town of North Hempstead's small business spotlight. Well deserved, well deserved indeed.

Making the ice cream

Rolled ice cream! What will they think of next? Starts out somewhat similar to Cold Stone in that cream is placed on a subzero surface that freezes the cream as they stir in toppings. They take it one step further by flattening out the cream and the scraping "rolls" of the ice cream. Ambience: a no frills interior, where it's essentially a long counter where customers watch as their ice cream is made in front of them. Extra kudos for the plastic barrier separating people from the food prep. Food: very creamy with a lot of topping options. Having been to other similar place in NYC, they are a little stingy with the amount of ice cream you get. Service: Although friendly, the place is staffed with teenagers who aren't necessarily the best ice cream rollers, but at least they try.

Yum! This place was good! They have preselected flavors to choose or you can make your own. I made my own...Coffee ice cream with Oreos and peanut butter...bomb. So good must try. Def want to come back and try the ice cream sandwich!

The cutest thing.

Are we good if I write a review about a place from back in August? That's alright? Okay cool. I'm glad we're just rolling with it (there's my horribly-timed pun) because I didn't wanna forget about missing out on reviewing Sweet Charlie's. The female and I consumed some dessert from this spot back in the late weeks of summer with delicious (though tentative on returning) results. So I should explain the pun. For those not aware, Sweet Charlie's is a rolled ice cream location. This means they'll actually take some milky liquid, a few toppings/mix-ins, and pour it all onto a freezing cold slab. Then, the chopping and mixing ensues a la Coldstone Creamery. Where things change course is when the milky concoction hardens and is spread out into a square shape. Let the good times roll (another pun) as the staff member scrapes pieces into neat little rolled up swirls and places them into a cup. Finish things off with some toppings and you've got an Instagram picture waiting to happen. So that's the whole rigamarole, but what about the actual taste? Does it hold up or is it all an elaborate flavor facade? We're (the lady and I) are here to report our creations were quite tasty. I went for a pre-maid option on the menu (Kiss & Tell) which is mint ice cream with Oreos mixed in. I added peanut butter sauce to it (because I'm weird) and topped it off with whipped cream and a chocolate drizzle. A delicious, refreshing creation to say the least. My GF, on the other hand, concocted her own from scratch which (my apologies, the passing months have left me forgetting what it was exactly) she enjoyed greatly as well. So why not go for the goods and give Sweet Charlie's five stars? Well, two factors (maybe three) have me feeling like this is more of a four star kind of deal. One factor was the wait time. With only two slabs in action (and a couple people in front of us), the time it took to get through each person was a little lengthy. It didn't help that one of the slabs turned off mid-making which caused another customer's rolls to take a little longer. This threw off my girlfriend and I from being ready to eat at the same time. At least the staff was super nice about it and really personable the whole way through. Even so, it's a factor to mention. The second factor is the price. Two rolled ice creams in a cup (because there are a few other intriguing options, like on a donut) cost nearly $16. Yeah, you can have unlimited toppings at the end and they seemed pretty willing to mix any sweet sauce you desire, but that's a bit much to justify frequently. It feels like the actual process (rolls and such) is what you're partially paying for and therein lies that (potential) third factor: is Sweet Charlie's a bit too gimmicky? I mean this whole rolled ice cream setup is a thing (you can find them in Queens and Brooklyn for starters), but I can't say for sure if I wouldn't just prefer a cup of Ralph's ices. We'll see. Overall, Sweet Charlie's is worth at least one trip to experience this whole operation and really see what it's all about. Perhaps the concocting now moves along a little faster if/when all the slabs are in use, but still prepare for a possible wait. After all that, I would like to return, though the aforementioned price and current cooler weather has kept me less inclined to go, for now. If they can hold it down through the winter, I can foresee myself returning when the temperature increases for sure. But hey, maybe I'll roll through one day in the next few months and see what's doin'. And on that note, I'm done with the puns...until my next review that is.

I never knew this icecream place opened near me and luckily found this on yelp during a night of icecream cravings. Conveniently located right on Hillside Ave, we came here around 9:30 PM and there was a small line. There were only 2 people working that day so I understand it would take some time to get our order since they hand mix and roll it. The workers were very nice and helpful to explain how to order - all the add ons like drizzles and toppings were all free and unlimited. We ordered the Premium Icecream and Ferro Rocher Mix-in, and it was bomb. They made it with fresh Ferro Rochers and crushed it up and it was way better than I expected. I would highly recommend anyone that is craving more than a typical vanilla ice cream on a cone, this is a must try. I will 100% be back for more!

Cookies and Cream with brownies, marshmallow swirl, chocolate chips

Drove past Sweet Charlie's yesterday and decided to stop in and check it out randomly - and we are SO glad that we did! The rolled ice cream options are plentiful - there are so many great suggestions of pre-designed combinations, including the Kiss Me More (mint ice cream with Oreos), which we got, as well as build your own (we also opted for cookies and cream with brownies and marshmallow swirl). Toppings are unlimited and included in the price, and both of our ice creams were phenomenal. We will definitely be back - and probably much more regularly than is healthy for us!

Ilyssa M.

A cool idea but honestly, not worth the money. You get so little ice cream, you are really paying to Watch them pour it on a freezing platter , add the toppings and scrape it off onto rolls.

Michael M.

After having tried rolled ice cream in a few other places, I was looking forward to trying out this relatively new spot. Unfortunately I walked in right after a group of three people ordered, and so I was fourth in the queue. This might not seem like a lot, but because of the nature of the product, it took about 10+ minutes before they even started working on my order (15 minutes altogether from checkout to departure). I was also a bit disappointed by the amount of rolls in my $7 "mini" cup (there was room for another roll, and one of my rolls was a half-roll. The ice cream was solid but probably not worth $7.
