If you have a hankering for Latin flavors and the masochistic need to completely stuff yourself with food until you pop a button, come to the Chicken Coop. It's has a pleasant casual atmosphere to dine in. The restaurant is dimly lighted, big and spacious complete with kitschy decorations lining the wall.
They have many high gloss lacquered tables with their icon of a hatched chick-ling painted on. How cute. The place is almost always empty, with only a couple of tables filled. Expect an intimate meal, with only the company of your party to witness your gluttonous frenzy.
While Chicken Coop does not offer a variety of arepas or empanadas as other Colombian places I've been, they do have many different platters of food to choose from. The platters comes with an incredible amount of food that can easily shared amongst 3 or more people. You get a lot of value for your money considering the amount of food that comes with each platter.
If you can finish a platter by yourself, consider it a wake-up call to go to the gym and to eat more moderately. For Shame!
-Tostones con guacamole $9
I had a mild addiction to these tostones for a while. The tostones alone, which are fried green plantains, are crisp, starchy, and probably one of the most flavorful tostones I've had. Other restaurants don't seem to properly season tostones like Chicken Coop does. It's divinely salty and scrumptious and topped with creamy guacamole, this stuff is pretty damn fricken GOOD!
-Bandeja Coop $19.95
Steak or pork loin, 1/4 chicken, pork rind, rice, beans, sweet plantains, avocado, corn cake and salad.
The biggest platter and the best bang for you buck. My bf and I often orders this to share and we each receive a bowl of fresh salad greens topped with picked beets and tomatoes.
Everything that comes with the platter is very yummy (except for the wimpy corn cake that is quite underwhelming). I had much better chicharrons (fried pork rinds) in Filipino places but the ones here were satisfactory. The meats are flavorful,
rice has a nice chew to it, and the beans are good.
Expect to have some food wrapped up to go.
-Bandeja Chicken Coop $ 9.50
1/4 chicken, rice, beans, chicken broth, french fries, and salad
A smaller platter that can be shared between two people. The chicken is juicy, seasoned well and well prepared as are the other components of this platter.
-Bandeja Paisa $15
Grilled or ground beef, rice & beans, pork rind, fried egg, sweet plantain, avocado, and corn cake.
Another good platter with lots of food. The fried egg is often overcooked for my taste, I like a runny yolk though.
The food is filling and satisfying and there are plenty of it. Chicken Coop is a great option for affordable take-out or dine-in.
NOTE: If you want water specify that you want tap water or glass of water. I don't like paying extra for bottled water but that's what happened one time. read more
