The worst resturant in valley stream. The workers are not friendly. My family came in and waited for a table. We were barely acknowledged. (Family of 5)Apparently their friends came in with the same number of people in their party and got seated immediately. We ended up getting sat right in front of the door. Honestly I don't know why this place has such great reviews. The two positive things I can mention about this place- good tostones and good pork rinds. Someone mentioned that you will be greated warmly: I can't say I've ever seen a waitress with as bad an attitude as the one in Chicken Coop. You would think that an empty restaurant would be very happy to see a party of 10. This was not the case. The waitress was very rude, impatient, uncaring, couldn't bother to smile. Also, what waitress can't carry multiple plates on a tray? Our food was brought out plate by plate, with no explanation as to where the rest of the food was and when it was coming out. I ordered the Flank steak dish. I assumed that it would be grilled to perfection- Boy was I mistaken. It had the consistency of being boiled. The meat itself was very bland. I admit that this easily could have been my own fault. Maybe this is how the dish is normally prepared? I should have asked when they didn't ask me how I wanted the meat cooked. tl;dr- the food is lackluster, the waitress has a stick shoved so far up her @#%$# she can't smile. Don't waste your time. If you are a fan of rotisserie chicken you'll enjoy this meal. Nice inexpensive sides of beans ( pinto no pork, black with park) smashed flat plaintains, yellow or white rice. We usually allow 1/2 chicken per person . Latin music is always playing so if you like to eat in silence like a monk then take the food out. read more

I went to this place at around 7:30pm a couple of days ago with two friends. My friend was craving some chicken. My friend expected some fried chicken or something (haha) but was quite surprised when he looked at the menu. I forgot what he got, but it was chicken mixed with rice with fries on the side. It looked really appetizing. My other friend and I wanted to share something so we got the mixed salad. The salad wasn't mixed when it came out but it was arranged very cutely. Our waiter was very nice. Got us refills on our drinks and frequently came by to ask us if we were doing alright. The place wasn't packed at all. It was quite empty, actually. Just my friends and I and another table on the other side of the place. It was nice and calming, though. I think the lights on the walls were cute. The prices were reasonable. I found this place purely by accident. I was in the area and needed to find an ATM machine. I saw a sign that said they had one, so I went inside. Whatever food I smelled was so wonderful, I vowed to return. The food is absolutely amazing. The portions are unbelievably large. I have tried their rotisserie chicken, plantains, rice & beans and several other items. I have yet to be disappointed by anything I have had here. The restaurant appears to be spotlessly clean, and the wait staff very attentive. As I am not completely familiar with Latin cuisine, I really enjoyed how polite the servers were about answering my questions. You also cannot beat their prices. The service at this Colombian restaurant was delightful and informative. Our little group was looking for a new Colombian restaurant and found this oasis. The chicharron was toasty and juicy. The bandeja paisa was delicious - the steak was thin, savory, and juicy; the rice was just right; the platano maduro and aguacate perfect. I plan to return on upcoming trips. I mean you would even think that the owner will be descent, respectful, and try to make their customers happy, especially if you have about 20 of your family members there for Lunch . So my family and I went there for Lunch I arrived about 1 hour after the 2:00 PM reservation I arrived very late. Everyone was there except me, and everyone has already ordered so I ask the waitress kindly may I order my food as well. She literally told me no you can't order because we already took everyone's order plus there was a set Pre-fix menu already. So I tell her how do you prohibit me from ordering food. ARE YOU SERIOUS ?! what restaurant does that sort of thing. So then the waitress came back a minute later with the owner. VERY RUDELY asked me what I wanted from the menu. So I ask for steak and Prohibits me from ordering the steak after I offered her to pay the difference then I tell her I don't wan't rice and beans . She told me no again because that's not in the prefix menu. I REMINDED HER I WILL PAY THE DIFFERENCE. I just want to exchange it for a salad with fried plantain. So then she comes back with my food with RICE AND BEANS when i specifically said I didn't want it so I Politely got up and gave back her rice and beans . I also ordered about 2 Mojito drinks, every time I ordered a drink she waited there to charge me, LITERALLY EVERYTIME she brought me my drink . Aren't you suppose to put the drink on the bill not charge me for it every time I order a drink . THAT WAS RUDE !. Like was I suppose to run out the restaurant with 20 of my family members not pay for a $10 dollar drink that will come out to a total of $20 even though we wasted about significant amount of money in that disgusting place. I truly wanted to like this place so bad because all my friends raved about it. My review may be harsher than my friends because I am Hispanic, and I know what authentic cuisine tastes like and this was overall a disappointment. There isn't really anything special about this place. The staff was so rude, and had on a stank face like they didn't want to be working and like my family's attendance in the restaurant was such an inconvenience. When we came into the restaurant the server told us "go wherever" and proceeded to the kitchen and came back out ten minutes later, without giving us menus. I understand it is a family business, but having a young man sleeping in the booth next to us is beyond unprofessional and I just felt uncomfortable. The server barely checked up on us and we had to call him over several times. I just had a regular salad since I figured I would be picking off everyone else's plate and I got food poisoning from a salad. A salad. The salad also came out with so much water on the plate like they decided to stick the bowl underneath the faucet and forgot to drain it. Horrible service! This place lacks the basic fundamentals of running a restaurant. Came inside with a toddler, hands full, was told to seat ourselves. I had to get the high chair myself. One of our forks we're missing, we asked for another, and got a nasty attitude from the waitress. Our order came out wrong, when we told them and asked for the correct item we ordered, got more attitude from another waitress. Place was empty, only had two other tables with customers, yet they could not properly serve us. Overall it seemed that every person there had a negative response towards us. They all seemed miserable. Whoever runs this business should be ashamed based on all these negative reviews. But at least the food wasn't bad. It was pretty good actually. It is unfortunate that I have to write this review because I know the owner from a customer level. However, it has been already way too many times that I request a delivery (and only because I an colombian and it is the closest place to me, but the food is not even that good) and I get an incomplete order and because I don't want to be a bother, I ignore their mistake. Yesterday I placed an order and again it came incomplete. My husband had asked for an order of sweet plantains but then cancelled it BECAUSE THE GIRL on the phone informed him the "chuleta comes with one maduro". At that point my husband asked if the "maduros" were sweet enough and she said yes. So there was no need to request a separate order of sweet plantains. When we received the order, instead of a sweet plantain they gave us a green plantain. We called and asked them to please fix our order and send the sweet plantain, they agreed to do so but 30 mins later called to tell us they couldn't do so. I asked to speak to the owner Diana and told them the numerous times they sent me the wrong order and they refused to put her in the phone and to complete my order. This place is pretty expensive, so after getting your order wrong so many times, they don't even fix that one time that you are complaining, AND the owner refuses to speak to you even after you mention that you know her (and have never had other than a sweet, proper, respectful greeting, and I worked next door to the place a very long time ago), it is only right that I take the opportunity to give a bad review. Considering that I got ignored completely. It is not right that I stay shut again. I will stick to continue ordering only from Arepas Mama in Hempstead. read more

I gave chicken coop 4 stars because I really enjoyed the food and had a great time for Mother's Day with my family. We had the guacamole & chips and calamari as appetizers, I must say they were amazing compared to other places I went to. For my entree, I had the skirt steak which came with a salad and a side of rice and beans. It was great!!! As for the drinks... Not so good!!! I ordered a mojito and it was too sweet and barely had any enjoyable amount of liquor in it. To make it worst there was a good amount of sugar at the bottom of it which I didn't notice until I was almost done with my drink so I didn't make a big deal out of it. The sangria, that the rest of the table ordered, was definitely watered down and barely tasted like there was any wine in it. There were three waitresses and the owner/manager taking care of the tables and it seemed like they took their sweet time to come take our order. The restaurant isn't that big but to the waitresses' defense there was no busboys so they had to do everything themselves. As a constructive criticism... I think the owners should get some busboys and a good bartender which would definitely drive their business up. HORRIBLE! First time here and I was beyond disappointed. Let's start with the server. So slow. The restaurant was literally empty and his service was awful. I ordered an iced tea and it looked like a cup of urine and it didn't taste much better. They were out of one of the items I wanted and that was annoying. Other tables were dirty when we walked in and still dirty when we left. Remember, we were the only table there the whole time. The empanadas and chicharron tasted like they were just heated up. Yuck! So dry and gross. Soup was super bland! Salad was straight up iceberg lettuce, tasted like water and leaves. Steak with onions was the only decent dish. Would never return!
