This place has gone down hill a lot. We used to love it and I guess that's what keeps us coming back but it'll be a while before I forget this one. Our food was cold! We ordered two small soups and those came out first and were a decent temp but everything after that was cold. My husband ordered a large arepa with cheese and it was cold to the point where now the arepa wouldn't cut cause it was hard and cold. We got two bandejas típicas, don't judge us for being basic, and the steak on it was cold. On both of the plates. The food also took a while to come out so we think maybe they forgot our food and it just got cold til they brought it out. Since I started dating my boyfriend early 2017, I always would hear him talking about how much he loves this restaurant so today he took me for lunch. Atmosphere: Latin music of course as soon as we walked in, which is always a good thing to have to feel the vibe of the restaurant. Also, upon walking in, we were immediately greeted by the hostess. The one thing I noticed that really stood out were the waiter/waitress uniform. They were all wearing yellow shirts and WHITE pants. Although it's somewhat irrelevant to what I really want to address in this review, my advice would be for the wait staff to wear BLACK pants especially working at a restaurant where it's so easy to get dirty. And since we already read the menu while waiting, we ordered our appetizer and food right away. Whenever we needed something, a waiter/waitress staff was always available. Food: My boyfriend raves about the food here so I was excited to try. For our appetizer, we had hot & crispy Colombian Empanadas that paired very well with their special sauce that reminded me of chimichurri sauce. Lots of scallions, onions, herbs, and other spices. For my entree, I ordered their COUNTRY PLATTER which was a huge plate of food with ground beef, fried pork rinds, rice, beans, fried egg, sweet plantain, corn cake (arepa), and avocado. This plate was delicious although I did not like that I had a slice of avocado with rotten parts smh. Before coming to this restaurant, I read some reviews and came across one complaining about their avocado having black/brown spots. This is one thing this restaurant has to be mindful of. No one wants to eat anything rotten. Overall, my dining experience was good and I am looking forward to coming back and trying more of their menu. Ohhh holy sangria!! It was the best sangria I have had, seriously. The portions are phenomenal here and the churrascos was excellent even though they didn't cook it as I wanted. I asked for medium well and they definitely brought out that bad boy "well done" lol. This is one of those few times where Yelp! can be misleading. I ordered the "typical platter" to be picked up and the menu stated $13.95. I really didn't want to pay that much but my usual $10. spot closes early so I thought "what the heck.. I'll try this place". First of all, that platter cost me $18, and when I asked why I'm being charged that amount she showed me my receipt and said "see? It say $17.95". I was too hungry and tired to be my usual combative self so I left. First of all, my steak looked and tasted 3 days old and was as flat and thin as construction paper!!!!! Mi Territa is a very unassuming quaint little latin american restaurant with some seriously good food. When you arrive, it looks kind of like a cross between a diner and a mexican restaurant, it is very clean and kept up nicely. I also noticed that on most occasions the majority of the crowd is latin american which means that the food is definitely authentic and must be good! Bottom line- the rotisserie chicken is where it is at. They give you this rich soup to start which is great, and then a huge platter with a 1/2 chicken and rice, french fries, etc...The chicken some of the best of this style you will find. I own a business and work in Hempstead for the last 20 years and I have eaten in and have taken food out from this restaurant. Either way you get it, get it. I will mirror the majority of reviewers in saying that this place is absolutely worth the trip. I definitely recommend it. I must say that the neighborhood is not as bad as written here and in my years of working here I have made many friends and have never had a problem with anyone. Came here for dinner with my family and i had a great experience. I came here on a Tuesday night so it wasn't too crowded and not too empty. I had the bandeja de pollo al carbon which was so good! Its just a bargain! It comes with soup, salad, chicken, rice and beans. Its to die for! My father ordered the chicken consome which is great. My sister ordered the pechuga de pollo (breaded). I've has Pastellas, soup, and of course the sides which consisted of rice, beans, and guacamole. I don't believe its dining style, although I could be wrong. I think you just order and then if you want to stay and eat the food you have that option. There's a parking lot in the back, which is an added bonus because I wouldn't want to be looking for parking spot in Hempstead no matter WHAT time of day it is. When you park you can enter threw the back entrance of the restaurant as well. The staff was very helpful, but it is a bit of a wait when you order your food when you arrive (not like the Dominicans who have their food in hot trays simmering all day, ready to be scooped out). But do be patient, it IS a restaurant, so it would be like walking into AppleBees and doing carside; if you don't wait to wait, CALL AHEAD. I'm not sure what these raving reviews are about, because my experience at Mi Tierrita was two stars, at best. Firstly, the consumer should be made aware that the empanadas are made of yuca, instead of corn flour, as yuca is not the standard flour used to make empanadas. When I asked the waitress if the orange colored patty in my hand was made of yuca, she seemed uninterested, and said "yeah, I think so." You should probably have some basic knowledge of what ingredients are in the food you serve daily. Second, I ordered a glass of sangria and she asked if I would like Hennessy in it as well. Um...no? Just no. For my meal, I went with the bandeja tipica. (Rice, beans, grilled steak, and pork rind.) Terrible is all I can say. The rice was undercooked, the beans were hard, the pork rind had no taste what so ever, and the grilled steak tasted as if it were seasoned in stale oregano for days. My mom ordered the Arroz con Pollo, which came with French fries(random) and a soup. The rice was also a very bright orange color, and so salty that she couldn't even eat it. Clearly, someone in that kitchen loves to over season. I will not be returning here, and would definitely not recommend to anyone I know. One of my favorite Colombian restaurants in the neighborhood, the portions are enormous and very affordable. My faves here are the grilled salmon platter, the BBQ special and the seafood soup but you have to make sure that you get extra green sauce, if you don't you will definitely regret it because it makes everything taste amazing even the white rice.
