[[HIGHLIGHT]]Mhat Korean is a casual low key authentic Korean restaurant in the area.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I came with one other person on a Saturday and there was no wait and only one lady working. There was one other party in there with us. The service started off a little slow but it was well worth it. The menu includes casserole soups, stir fries, noodle dishes, and other house entrees. If you like seafood, Mhat is known for their mackerel and cod dishes. We wanted to try everything but ended up sharing their Bul Nak Jun Gol which was a bulgogi and octopus casserole soup. It came out in a hot pot with flames. It included marinated meats, udon noodles, veggies, in a sweet and savory soup base. It was served with banchan and rice. The dish listed that it was for 2 people but it can honestly feed up to 4. We had plenty of left overs. The flavors were complicated and delicious. It was perfect for that cold day. The lady working was really nice and helpful. She made sure to check on us and even helped us enjoy our food by cutting out the flame and making sure we were mixing it right. The pricing is super affordable. It was a great first time experience and I can't wait to come back and try their other dishes.

I came by for lunch and was surprised to see that there were no other customers in the shop. But I really enjoyed the food! The bulgogi & octopus casserole soup was flavorful and hearty--perfect comfort food--and the gun man du were crispy and delicious. Portions were generous and the meal came out nice and hot. The only reason I'm giving 4 instead of 5 stars is because the service felt a little on the serious side. The woman working there wasn't unfriendly, but definitely more no-nonsense. I also paid my bill with a credit card and left a cash tip on the table, but she didn't see it and came back to ask if I intended to leave a tip--which caught me off guard a bit. It wasn't a huge deal, but just something to note. Overall, I'd come back for the food--it's solid Korean comfort fare. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Just be prepared for a more straightforward dining experience.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

    Dak Galbi with Udon

Mhat is a local gem, hidden away in a random La Palma strip mall, serving some of the best dak galbi in the OC. Pair that spicy chicken stew with the thicker udon noodles- and you are good to go. The chicken is tender (I think they use drumstick meat) and the spice level is just right. Topped with plenty of kaenip (perilla leaves) and assorted veggies, we added sweet potato slices to add a little texture to the dish. Service was very friendly too as both staff were accommodating. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Mhat is small, perhaps searing around 25 total, so come hungry but be prepared to wait in case you come during prime hours.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

Was super excited to try their dakgalbi. Their seasoning is on the sweeter side. Portions are small. Make sure to order extra portion(s) cuz this place ain't like Mapo Dakgalbi in LA. [[HIGHLIGHT]]A hole in the wall type of restaurant but clean.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Service is good but slow. Would I come back? 8/10 for dakgalbi. Perhaps I can try other items on their menu next time.

I've been this place several times and it never let me down! A hidden gem place in my work area. Good food and good service! Highly recommended

The food here is super comforting and will make you want more. The dak galbi is super flavorful with lots of tender chicken. Don't forget to get the extra sides as I recommend the fried glass noodles wrapped in seaweed and some kind of noodle ( I got udon). I love cheese but I don't think it was worth because they don't give you much and it doesn't really add to the dish. You have a choice the get rice with the dish or after to make fried rice. I think I would get the rice in the side instead of the fried rice because it didn't have too much flavor and the rice by itself might compliment the dish better overall. The seafood pancake wasn't the best I've had but still good. The best were the banchan though which they sell packages to take home! The place is pretty small so I wouldn't come in big groups. There's about 6-8 tables so you may have to wait if it's crowded. The server was super kind and was working hard despite working alone too. There's not many dak galbi places in OC so definitely come here!

Came here on other Yelper comments and recommendations. We are still in the midst of SoCal May Gray and soup seemed like the perfect meal. I was a solo early lunch customer, and the owner chef Miss Kim was also the server. Most popular dish her is meant for sharing : Dak Galbi so I'll have to come back to try that. I got the seafood and noodle soup today and that was the perfect choice. Nice chew on the flour noodles, generous amount of clams, mussels and shrimp plus a lot of shredded vegetables. The clear soup had a great depth of seafood flavor and was served steaming hot, probably could have shared this with someone else! Place is about the same size as most other Korean restaurants in this area, and each seems to have a specific menu and style of cooking. I loved all the banchan here: bean sprouts, cucumbers, kimchi and seaweed salad: all are made in house. Miss Kim also has several other banchan for sale, on display in a double refrigerator. Quiet and homey atmosphere. Support local and Asian owned businesses! In the same plaza as 7-11 and Tutor zone.

I took one look at the photos of their Dak Galbi (Korean Spicy Chicken Stir Fry) and was completely sold. Dropping by on a cold winter night with a group of friends, a healthy helping of Dak Galbi was just what we needed to warm up! It features chicken leg meat, boiled eggs, rice cake, perilla leaves, mixed veggies, and their house special spicy sauce. You can also opt for additional toppings and adjust how many servings you order to account for your party. SO addicting, but also SO spicy! Make sure to have some water or rice on hand if you're not too great with spice. At the end of the meal, you can request for them to make fried rice from the leftovers on the pan! The perfect way to finish up! We also ordered the Galbi Tang (Beef Rib Soup). The meat was fall-off-the-bone tender and the broth was warm yet refreshing and healing. Super yummy!

What the Mhat? Delicious! We were looking for something different, delicious, and some thing off the beaten path. Quiet, and modest in a small strip mall. This tiny place has some amazing Korean food. The gal that works there was super helpful in recommending some delicious food- Soon doo boo- a piping hot - boiling bowl of spicy kimchi soup full of flavor; chock full of silken tofu and beef this dish will make you warm and toasty inside and out. Spicy level is about a 6/10 Gun Mandu - pan fried pork dumplings yum! Tender crisp wrapper with an inside that is full of flavor. The dipping sauce is absolutely packs a touch of heat (spice) but overall not hot and good for kids too spice level is about a 2/10 Jeyug bokk eum - so far our favorite dish here. Thinly sliced marinated pork belly is stir fried with cabbage, Kim chi and other vegetables to make an incredibly flavorful meal. Heat level 7/10 Our meals were served with rice and side dishes (banchan) that I could just eat on my own. And, as a matter fact, if you want to take them home, they have a refrigerator full of ready to go Banchan. We absolutely fell in love with the food and have been back multiple times trying different menu items. Not one bad thing on the menu!

We got here at around 6:30 on Saturday and had to wait a bit since this is a smaller restaurant. We ordered the dakgalbi which was good 4/5. Nothing special but pretty good. The fried rice after was delicious as well. As another yelper recommended, I also recommend requesting for it to be mild since it can get a bit spicy if you aren't good handling spice. The cod fish with radish is 5/5. It isnt talked about enough but this was the favorite dish. The fish was so supple and delicious and the radish soaked up all the flavor. I highly recommend. Our party of 4 ordered 2 servings of dakgalbi and the cod with radish. It was perfect portion for all of us but if you eat more i would recommend ordering a bit more. A bit pricy but a solid place for homey korean food.

I've been looking for a dakgalbi place in oc for the longest time and saw this place on yelp! We got two servings of dakgalbi as well as a seafood pancake. The dakgalbi was so flavorful and I loved the bokkeumbap that comes with it after. The seafood pancake was so crispy and paired well with the dipping sauce, also their side dishes were really good! They even sell side dishes to take home as well. We came here on a Saturday afternoon and it was pretty busy! There was only one auntie working but she was super sweet and came by to check up on us often!! Will definitely come back soon

The best chicken rib restaurant in OC. The staff are friendly and know what they are doing. Not many choices for good Dak Galbi here in OC - you would have to go to Ktown for that. But this place was really good. Don't forget to get the fried rice at the end.

This is a really awesome place for dak galbi! They even stir the pot for you! So first, it's located inside a plaza and parking was relatively easy. I came to try the dak galbi but not really knowing what to expect. It comes with chicken and a lot of base ingredients like egg, potatoes, and spinach. I got extra rice cake because I love rice cake. Perhaps glass noodles or a side of rice would have also been good. Instead we opted to save the rice for fried sticky rice at the end and I'm so glad we did. The whole meal was delicious! It was also spicy! Thank goodness for water. I didn't know this but they will mix the dak galbi and any extras sides you ordered for you. The star of the show was the fried rice at the end. It was incredibly crispy and full of flavor. There was so much food we brought it back for leftovers. I absolutely love this place. I thought it was truly authentic and is now my go to spot for dak galbi. It's so delicious and really memorable. This is definitely a place worth taking a trip for.

Updated Review: Disappointing Experience…read more I'm updating my previous review because our most recent visit unfortunately changed my overall impression of this place. I've always liked this spot as a late-night eatery, and the food itself is still good, the broth is flavorful, and the noodles and other dishes have generally been enjoyable. That's why I was especially disappointed by how our most recent visit was handled. We arrived around midnight and put our name on the waitlist. There were a few parties ahead of us, and around 12:30 AM, the host came out and explained that at that point, seating was no longer guaranteed, despite the restaurant being scheduled to close at 1:30 AM. We decided to continue waiting and were eventually seated around 1:00 AM. We ordered immediately, and our food came out shortly afterward around 1:15 AM. At exactly 1:30 AM, while we were still finishing our meal, our server came over and said that they were closing and asked if we wanted boxes for the remaining food. Technically, it was phrased as a reminder and an offer to provide boxes for our food, but the implication was very clear: we needed to leave. That was what made the situation particularly uncomfortable. We completely understood that the restaurant was closing and had no intention of staying past closing to socialize or linger. We were literally still eating the food we had just ordered around 1:15 AM. We had only been seated for about 30 minutes, ordered immediately, and were already nearly finished when the server approached us. We had also already paid our bill. The timing just left an awkward feeling. If the restaurant closes at 1:30 AM and customers who are seated close to closing are expected to be completely finished and out by that time, I think that should be communicated before seating them. It would have allowed us to decide whether waiting until 1:00 AM was worthwhile. I also understand that employees need to finish their shifts and close the restaurant on time, and I respect that. My issue is more with the overall communication and the way the situation was handled. Being seated at 1:00 AM, ordering immediately, receiving our food around 1:15 AM, and then essentially being told at 1:30 AM that it was time to leave made the experience feel rushed and uncomfortable. This isn't a review based on the food, the food is still good. It's about the overall experience and customer service during this particular visit. Unfortunately, what should have been a nice late night meal ended with an awkward feeling that stayed with us after we left. Because of this experience, I can no longer give this location the five stars I previously gave it. I hope management takes this as constructive feedback, because I do think the situation could have been handled much more smoothly and with clearer communication upfront.

I absolutely loved the crispy bottom layer because it added such a satisfying crunch to every bite. The inside stayed really juicy and flavorful with a good balance of pork, shrimp, and chives. The Juicy Pork Dumplings had soup inside, which was rich and savory. I've had soup dumplings before where the wrapper breaks apart too easily, but these held together nicely while still staying soft and delicate. The Wonton in Spicy Sauce was my personal favorite from the entire meal. The spicy sauce flavor was savory with a little sweetness. I'm typically not good with spice, so this is at a spice level that should be very manageable for everyone. I absolutely loved the spicy sauce, so I started putting it on everything. Definitely put the sauce on the chicken fried rice! The Chicken Fried Rice was a great dish to pair with everything else that we ordered. With several orders of entrees, a solid rice dish is a must order for any Chinese meal. The rice had a nice savory flavor that I enjoyed, and there was a generous amount of chicken mixed throughout the dish. I even asked the waitress if they do anything special with the fried rice because it tasted better than many other restaurants. It felt comforting and balanced compared to some of the heavier dishes. The Dry Fried String Beans were cooked perfectly with a slight crispness while still being tender. The garlic and seasoning gave them so much flavor that it honestly didn't even feel like I was eating vegetables. I do have to note that these were very much on the salty side, so if you don't like foods that are too salty, I would choose a different dish. The Orange Chicken was really crispy and juicy, which I appreciated because soggy orange chicken is always disappointing to me. The sauce had a nice citrus flavor while still keeping that classic sweet savory taste. The Spring Rolls were simple with vegetable filling on the inside with a crispy outside. I would try a different appetizer next time. The Kung Pao Shrimp was packed with flavor and had a really satisfying combination of textures. The shrimp were tender, and the peanuts added a great crunch to the dish. I thought the sauce had a really nice balance of spice and savoriness without becoming overwhelming. Another dish I really enjoyed was the Beef Roll Pancake. The pancake itself was nice and chewy throughout each bite. The sliced beef with green onions and sauce all wrapped together made every bite really flavorful and satisfying. For drinks, I ordered the Jasmine Milk Tea with Boba. I really liked that the jasmine tea flavor was noticeable instead of being overly sweet like some milk teas can be. The boba had a soft chewy texture, and the drink itself paired perfectly with the spicy and savory dishes from the meal. Staff: All of the staff members were quick and friendly Ambiance: Indoor seating only. A good amount of parking in the parking lot that is shared with other shops in the plaza.

At first, I wasn't sure what to expect, but the overall experience was better than I anticipated. The seasoning was a little strong, and some dishes had a fairly familiar, standardized taste. There were four of us, and we ordered about eight or nine of their most popular dishes. My parents really enjoyed the food. There's Sesame Oil, Black Vinegar, Garlic Sauce, and Soy Sauce. I prefer Garlic Sauce the best! The restaurant also gets pretty cold so maybe bring a light jacket. When I went to the restaurant, there was only one person in line ahead of me, and most people seem to order take out. I would come here again to try out the noodles and the Kimchi potstickers!!
