    Dak Galbi with Udon
    Dave C.

Mhat is a local gem, hidden away in a random La Palma strip mall, serving some of the best dak galbi in the OC. Pair that spicy chicken stew with the thicker udon noodles- and you are good to go. The chicken is tender (I think they use drumstick meat) and the spice level is just right. Topped with plenty of kaenip (perilla leaves) and assorted veggies, we added sweet potato slices to add a little texture to the dish. Service was very friendly too as both staff were accommodating. Mhat is small, perhaps searing around 25 total, so come hungry but be prepared to wait in case you come during prime hours.

Was super excited to try their dakgalbi. Their seasoning is on the sweeter side. Portions are small. Make sure to order extra portion(s) cuz this place ain't like Mapo Dakgalbi in LA. A hole in the wall type of restaurant but clean. Service is good but slow. Would I come back? 8/10 for dakgalbi. Perhaps I can try other items on their menu next time.

I've been this place several times and it never let me down! A hidden gem place in my work area. Good food and good service! Highly recommended

The food here is super comforting and will make you want more. The dak galbi is super flavorful with lots of tender chicken. Don't forget to get the extra sides as I recommend the fried glass noodles wrapped in seaweed and some kind of noodle ( I got udon). I love cheese but I don't think it was worth because they don't give you much and it doesn't really add to the dish. You have a choice the get rice with the dish or after to make fried rice. I think I would get the rice in the side instead of the fried rice because it didn't have too much flavor and the rice by itself might compliment the dish better overall. The seafood pancake wasn't the best I've had but still good. The best were the banchan though which they sell packages to take home! The place is pretty small so I wouldn't come in big groups. There's about 6-8 tables so you may have to wait if it's crowded. The server was super kind and was working hard despite working alone too. There's not many dak galbi places in OC so definitely come here!

Came here on other Yelper comments and recommendations. We are still in the midst of SoCal May Gray and soup seemed like the perfect meal. I was a solo early lunch customer, and the owner chef Miss Kim was also the server. Most popular dish her is meant for sharing : Dak Galbi so I'll have to come back to try that. I got the seafood and noodle soup today and that was the perfect choice. Nice chew on the flour noodles, generous amount of clams, mussels and shrimp plus a lot of shredded vegetables. The clear soup had a great depth of seafood flavor and was served steaming hot, probably could have shared this with someone else! Place is about the same size as most other Korean restaurants in this area, and each seems to have a specific menu and style of cooking. I loved all the banchan here: bean sprouts, cucumbers, kimchi and seaweed salad: all are made in house. Miss Kim also has several other banchan for sale, on display in a double refrigerator. Quiet and homey atmosphere. Support local and Asian owned businesses! In the same plaza as 7-11 and Tutor zone.

I took one look at the photos of their Dak Galbi (Korean Spicy Chicken Stir Fry) and was completely sold. Dropping by on a cold winter night with a group of friends, a healthy helping of Dak Galbi was just what we needed to warm up! It features chicken leg meat, boiled eggs, rice cake, perilla leaves, mixed veggies, and their house special spicy sauce. You can also opt for additional toppings and adjust how many servings you order to account for your party. SO addicting, but also SO spicy! Make sure to have some water or rice on hand if you're not too great with spice. At the end of the meal, you can request for them to make fried rice from the leftovers on the pan! The perfect way to finish up! We also ordered the Galbi Tang (Beef Rib Soup). The meat was fall-off-the-bone tender and the broth was warm yet refreshing and healing. Super yummy!

    Jeyug bokk-eum - so delicious!

What the Mhat? Delicious! We were looking for something different, delicious, and some thing off the beaten path. Quiet, and modest in a small strip mall. This tiny place has some amazing Korean food. The gal that works there was super helpful in recommending some delicious food- Soon doo boo- a piping hot - boiling bowl of spicy kimchi soup full of flavor; chock full of silken tofu and beef this dish will make you warm and toasty inside and out. Spicy level is about a 6/10 Gun Mandu - pan fried pork dumplings yum! Tender crisp wrapper with an inside that is full of flavor. The dipping sauce is absolutely packs a touch of heat (spice) but overall not hot and good for kids too spice level is about a 2/10 Jeyug bokk eum - so far our favorite dish here. Thinly sliced marinated pork belly is stir fried with cabbage, Kim chi and other vegetables to make an incredibly flavorful meal. Heat level 7/10 Our meals were served with rice and side dishes (banchan) that I could just eat on my own. And, as a matter fact, if you want to take them home, they have a refrigerator full of ready to go Banchan. We absolutely fell in love with the food and have been back multiple times trying different menu items. Not one bad thing on the menu!

We got here at around 6:30 on Saturday and had to wait a bit since this is a smaller restaurant. We ordered the dakgalbi which was good 4/5. Nothing special but pretty good. The fried rice after was delicious as well. As another yelper recommended, I also recommend requesting for it to be mild since it can get a bit spicy if you aren't good handling spice. The cod fish with radish is 5/5. It isnt talked about enough but this was the favorite dish. The fish was so supple and delicious and the radish soaked up all the flavor. I highly recommend. Our party of 4 ordered 2 servings of dakgalbi and the cod with radish. It was perfect portion for all of us but if you eat more i would recommend ordering a bit more. A bit pricy but a solid place for homey korean food.

I've been looking for a dakgalbi place in oc for the longest time and saw this place on yelp! We got two servings of dakgalbi as well as a seafood pancake. The dakgalbi was so flavorful and I loved the bokkeumbap that comes with it after. The seafood pancake was so crispy and paired well with the dipping sauce, also their side dishes were really good! They even sell side dishes to take home as well. We came here on a Saturday afternoon and it was pretty busy! There was only one auntie working but she was super sweet and came by to check up on us often!! Will definitely come back soon

The best chicken rib restaurant in OC. The staff are friendly and know what they are doing. Not many choices for good Dak Galbi here in OC - you would have to go to Ktown for that. But this place was really good. Don't forget to get the fried rice at the end.

This is a really awesome place for dak galbi! They even stir the pot for you! So first, it's located inside a plaza and parking was relatively easy. I came to try the dak galbi but not really knowing what to expect. It comes with chicken and a lot of base ingredients like egg, potatoes, and spinach. I got extra rice cake because I love rice cake. Perhaps glass noodles or a side of rice would have also been good. Instead we opted to save the rice for fried sticky rice at the end and I'm so glad we did. The whole meal was delicious! It was also spicy! Thank goodness for water. I didn't know this but they will mix the dak galbi and any extras sides you ordered for you. The star of the show was the fried rice at the end. It was incredibly crispy and full of flavor. There was so much food we brought it back for leftovers. I absolutely love this place. I thought it was truly authentic and is now my go to spot for dak galbi. It's so delicious and really memorable. This is definitely a place worth taking a trip for.

Abalone porridge, salty and tastes like msg but good

Ordered squid stone bibimbab and kalbitang. Both extremely salty. Bibimbab sauce was spicy and salty but lacking flavor. Mom said it just tastes like gochujang.

Hit by the fragrance first and then devoured.

It's in a small, almost empty-ish plaza, but it's a little mom-and-pop gem. Ambiance (5/5): Walk right in and you'll see that it's on the small side, but a cute and simple restaurant with family vibes. Depending on the time of day, it can feel somewhat empty while at other times somewhat busy. Service (3/5): It's nothing too special, but the workers are always friendly. It's somewhat self serve. You order at the front and then you wait for them to call your order. Then you pick up your tray of food, eat, and place the trays towards the front when done. Food (5/5): Everything we have eaten here over the years is so yummy. Their hot stone bibimbap is chock-full of ingredients with just the right amount of sesame oil and flavor; we often have to pack some of it to go. Their army stew (budaejigae) is my absolute favorite, and I've compared it to a lot of other Korean stew places, some way pricier and this one still takes the cake. It has a wonderful roasted flavor from all the meats they put in and I love going for the ramen first. I always take extra to go since it's small but filling. The best part? Let's not forget that they have self serve all-you-can-eat banchan (side dishes) and they do not skimp on variety. There's your usuals like the napa kimchi, radish kimchi and fish cakes, but they also have mac salad, potato salad, japchae and other goodies which works well for your picky toddlers. Overall, this is a wonderful little restaurant that deserves a visit over and over when you're just craving some comfort korean food at decent prices.

I highly recommend the seafood pork bone soup noodle because it was super tasty, but be aware that mild is still kind of spicy. The lady in the front was strict but reasonable, just like any real place should be. Customers were mostly family they knew the place and chatted with the boss. The atmosphere is very simple with tables that you can sit anywhere.

I thought the Bulgolgi fries would be number one. Sadly it's not. If you mess up steamed egg, ima gonna say no to the rest of your menu. I would order two next time and just stick to that. The cheese corn was okay, but compared to PaDak and other local Korean spot I say skip this. The cheese tasted weird to me and I did t like that it was also a kraft American cheese. As a cheese lover, I only expect that square cheese to be on a burger or cheese melt. The Bulgolgi Fries could serve 3 people. But it was drenched with sauce, and spicy sauce. Not enough Bulgolgi to pay $20. The cut of fries were this nd tasted like sweet potato. It just didn't fit my taste buds. The Garlic noodle okay. That's Al I have to say about that. I've never had naengmyeon that had so much chili flakes, and as someone who doesn't mind them, it was weird. The soybean paste soup was bland. And the side dishes were just okay. After the meal, I got really thirsty and my face was puffy so they are using msg. If it was a good meal, I wouldn't have minded the msg, but for food that was mediocre at best was not worth it. The menu has a lot of interesting dishes, especially the Tofu Soup section. We both ordered the Wild Sesame Seed Tofu Soup. Food came out pretty quickly, along with the banchan. The Tofu Soup was good. The sesame seed flavor was subtle. Not sure if that is the intention. We liked that it was served with purple rice. For the banchan, we were given an assortment of things, and we noted that the fritter/pancake and the cucumber kimchi were really good. Overall, giving Chung Dam Tofu a 4/5. Food and service were both good. The space no frills and pretty big with a good number of tables. Menu seems priced a bit higher than we are used to seeing, but if the other items are just as good or better, they are probably worth it. Would recommend to others and would return to try other menu items.

The first thing I noticed was how big the menu is -- lots of variety, which I liked. I ended up ordering the keto kimbap, sesame leaf kimbap, and tuna kimbap. The price per roll wasn't exactly cheap, but each one was packed with ingredients, so it felt worth it. The portions were generous too -- I ordered thinking it would be enough for two people, but honestly it could've fed three. The flavors were very clean and well-balanced overall. They also gave me some fish cake soup on the side when I asked, which was a nice touch. The only downside was the wait. It felt like it took about 20 minutes, probably because they were backed up with orders. That said, it seemed like a small, family-run place with just a couple people working, so it wasn't a huge deal. Overall, a really solid experience.
