    Barbacoa, trompo and chicharon

Incredible tacos and incredible pozole. Tacos: chicharon, barbacoa, trompo. I am coming back here regularly. The taste of home.

    Inside

Service was great, place is really clean on the inside. We ordered the Huevos Ranchero very little potatoes and the bean were very runny (seemed like you would need a straw to eat them). Unfortunately, this will not be a repeat for us.

We stopped in today for lunch, and it was delicious! Had to try the pozole rojo of course. It had lots of pork and lots of hominy. They serve it with garnishments such as shredded lettuce, radish, onions, and cilantro. We also got an order of the mini tacos. They were great as well! Our favorite was their salsas! They are all super spicy, and flavorful! The creamy jalapeño salsa, and then I believe it was like a creamy chile de Arbol salsa. We'd definitely go back!

I've had the opportunity to come to Mexpozole a handful of times now thanks for my family. It's become one of their favorite nearby authentic Mexican spots in the Katy area. Located in a really small brand new shopping center, the location can be easily missed so keep your eyes open on Fry Rd. Because of COVID-19, social distancing is being enforced. Do bring your masks. All tables are spaced out by 2-3 empty tables. When you walk in your server will seat you. Like I said, it's a small space.. business has been pretty slow the times that I have been so I've only seen one-two waitresses working. Be patient as they are the only two working the entire restaurant. We tried the loaded nachos for an appetizer and they were pretty good. Ordered all on the side once except for the meat and cheese and ordered all on the side completely another time we visited. I recommend having them keep the meat and cheese on the nachos vs on the side because you do get less of both asking for them on the side. I tried the Tripas tacos, I asked for them to be extra crispy and they came out just like that. Crunchy and full of flavor. They're not the biggest tacos so 3-4 is a good amount if you wanna fill up. On a second visit I had the Tampiqueña plate, it's basically carne asada, enchiladas, fried beans and rice. It was pretty good. I chose to not have the enchiladas and asked for extra rice. They do serve beer, sodas, and aguas frescas! I had the horchata and I actually liked it. Some places make it way too sweet for my taste but the one here is just fine. Overall it's a solid addition to the area. If you need delivery it looks like they are partnered with Uber Eats for home delivery!

My friends and I stopped by for lunch and it was a great time! Service is amazing and the food was extremely authentic. I had a Chorizo Taco, a Torta, and Flan for dessert. Everything was flavored especially well and the Flan was AMAZING! I'll def be back for another. Whatever music station they had playing was very amusing I couldn't stop wiggling in my seat. The only negative thing was that the water tasted a bit off, I'm not sure if it was tap water or what was going on but I didn't like it.

Food is really good! I normally get an order fajita tacos and my family likes tacos potosinos. The service is usually quick, I call when I am 15 minutes away fro a take out order and it's ready by the time I arrive.

When we arrived, the restaurant was empty, and I will say our server was very nice and welcoming. One thing we immediately noticed, though, was that the menu prices were crossed out and changed. The waitress explained that prices have been fluctuating, but it did feel a little unpolished and confusing seeing gouged-out pricing on multiple items. I ordered the breakfast quesadilla, and my wife got the South of the Border omelet. We also had the roasted potatoes, which ended up being a very small portion. My main issue was that several items listed (or expected) didn't come as described. The quesadilla was supposed to come with sour cream and pico, but they weren't served on the side. We were told the pico was inside the quesadilla, which wasn't noted on the menu. Additionally, both dishes had raw, unsautéed onions mixed into the scrambled eggs. That wasn't listed in the description, and I personally don't like raw onions, so it definitely affected the meal for me. I think ingredients like that should be clearly stated. The cheese sauce tasted like standard heated nacho cheese and was very runny, not what we expected from a breakfast dish. The sour cream also tasted off. Overall, while the service was friendly, the food and menu presentation didn't meet expectations. Unfortunately, we probably won't be returning.

The exterior is just as beautifully decorated. It's clear that chef-owner Lori Pope poured a lot of time, heart, and soul into both the menu and the store's design. The hostess was super friendly. As soon as I walked in, she gave me a warm and smiling greeting. The menu was a feast for the eyes. It had a lot of lovely pictures of the different dishes. I was ecstatic to see that there were so many vegetarian and vegan friendly options. Also, most of the dishes can be requested to be made gluten-free. Big plus. You don't order at your table, instead you go to the counter in the back and make sure to bring the sheet with your table number on it. The gal at the counter who took our order wasn't as friendly as the hostess but she was polite enough to inform us about the 15% charge. The food came out very quickly. Hopefully it's because they had a ton of people working in the back. Hopefully. I ordered the Magic Mushroom Tacos and thought it was a beautiful plate. My favorite thing about the dish is the tortillas. It had a nice light crisp to it and kept all the fillings intact from start to finish. The "Magic Mushrooms" were good but could have been better if the batter were lighter and crispier. The batter was a little on the heavy and dense side for me. I also think the sauce could be even better if it had a bit less oil and a bit more flavor. I really enjoyed the potato slices and the fresh berries were a great way to cleanse the palate. My lunch date ordered the Biscuit and gravy dish and thought it was good. We also ordered a side of the Belgian waffle to share. I thought the waffle on its own was extremely sweet and way too dense for my liking. I am happy there's a locally owned and created brunch place like Harvest Kitchen and will definitely be back to try other dishes. Note: There's an automatic 15% service charge to every order.

This is done because of the ordering process and the requirement to pay at the top of the meal rather than at the end and service was actually performed. The fact that all was done was the delivery of our order and not one check on the table to see how the meal was. They did come by and ask for the dishes, but didn't ask how the meal was. We arrived and sat outside due to having a dog, beating the small waitlist they had of people wanting to eat inside. Feels like it gets busy there so be prepared to wait (they don't take reservations). The interior and outside areas are clean and simple, ordering was also fast too. Our server was attentive and quick, although she did make a remark asking if one of our party was sure they wanted to order as much as they did. Ignoring that, ordering was smooth. We got their pancakes, French toast, a side order of bacon, side order of sausage, and ranch omelette with biscuits and grits. Everything was good but the standouts were the pancakes and omelette that were very filling and hit the spot. Not many brunch places can be consistently good across all dishes but Toasted Yolk certainly was. It's convenient, relatively cheap, and good food. Since it was our first time, we were looking around for a server and wondering who to approach. When the waitress finally came over, we greeted her politely. She responded, but then added an unwelcoming comment: "Are you just here or have you been waiting? If you just got here, please be patient." That really threw me off. As someone who has worked as a server before, I would never speak to customers that way. It felt unnecessary and rude. To make things worse, when our food arrived, I noticed what looked like a small metal piece (possibly a wire or bristle) on the plate next to the bacon. That's a serious food safety concern and very alarming. When the server came back, she didn't apologize or acknowledge the issue at all, which made the experience even more disappointing. Overall, between the poor service and the issue with the food, I was very disappointed. After this experience, this restaurant is now on my blacklist. I won't be returning.
