Friendly and clean establishment. I placed an order to go. It took them about 15 minutes to get ready. I ordered yuca & chicharron as well as beans, crema and ripe plantains plate. The yuca was good. The chicharron was more like chunks of pork. The beans portion on other plate was on the small side. The ripe plantains were perfectly cooked. The two red sauces were spicy and oh so much more spicier. I am also posting the most recent menu as the ones here are outdated. read more

La dueña amable pero a veces cuando ella no está las trabajadoras son un poco rudas, me gusta mucho el pollo con rajadas de aquí

Ample parking. Lovely service. I really enjoyed our meals. Everything was so fresh and you could tell made with love. The salsa is FIRE. So spicy and yet so good. The Papusas had a great flavor and the cabbage that accompanied was so good. Flavorful and crisp. Yuca and fried pork was really so good. I loved how they were cooked. So happy to have found this place. We will be back!! read more

Muy grasoso! No me gustó para nada. Los huevos bañados de aceite. Las pupusas más o menos. No volvería.

Lots of thing to consider here. First, the food is great and is freshly made. So 5 stars there. The problem is that the place is a bit of a hole. Like many restaurants in strip malls in Houston, if feel like some updating can be done. You know to make the place feel newer and clean then some run down place with many water stains on the ceiling etc. While this is kinda the norm in Houston, I wish it would change. When we went, it was crazy hot inside and I think an AC was broken. It was like 83 or 84 inside which made the super long wait for the made from scratch food miserable. Staff is always pretty friendly - so no complains there. Long story short, it will be a long wait for food. But it's really good and freshly made. Just hope that you don't have to wait while they have AC issues. Overall, totally worth visiting. read more

I was looking for pupusas in the area and this restaurant was close. I ordered five cheese and loroco pupusas to go. The staff is friendly. The pupusas lacked cheese and they were crispy in some sections. They were generous with the tomato salsa and curtido (cabbage). Unfortunately, there are better pupusas out there. read more

We actually ordered it on DoorDash and it was still top tier ! I really don't like having my food delivered because the food quality is often compromised, but this food.was delicious! We ordered the shrimp , pork and cheese , bean and cheese , and fajita Papusas along with a side of beans and a side of rice . Let's start with the papusas they were so soft with the right amount of crispy areas , and the fillings were so good ! Now let's get into this rice ... it was an unexpected star of the show ! That rice was so fluffy and seasoned to perfection. I ate it with the slaw and sauce for the papusas and took it to another level ( I promise it's a must try ) I can't wait to try this place in person ... I want the fresh off the griddle experience ASAP Sorry , no pics ! The take out containers weren't exactly picture worthy . Signed A shameless foodie read more

First time eating here and it's not bad really nice people. The food was excellent just what I expected. I had the spinach with cheese , pork with cheese and the beans with cheese and the we're good.oh and the coffee you need to try their coffee read more

This place has some of the best pupusas I have ever had. Love the change of moral in the store. The servers are super nice, quick & efficient. Pay attention to detail and has a nice atmosphere, love all of the renovations that have been made. read more

I went here because all the other places to get pulidas were closed. Pupilas were 7/10. The bean and cheese had had a small filling to masa ratio. A little better with the revueltas. Their pickled slaw was actually pretty good. The atmosphere when I walked in there was like a backyard Mexican bbq lol(I'm Mexican btw). Good food, but with the competition in Houston, this place is B tier for me. read more

Our witress forgot simple things like straws with canned sodas, ketchup for french fry orders for the kids, and even silverware for plates that required them. The pupusas were bland, the ones of chicharron and queso were almost all queso with barely any chicharron. Our pupusa orders got mixed up between guests. Will not be coming back. They literally are always late with the food and they don't take that long with the steaks

My girlfriend and I came here after the missus was craving pupusas. So we ordered a handful. And a half. (Many many pupusas). The pupusas were delicious and tasty, and though a bit greasy, it was nothing out of the ordinary. The only reason this place isn't getting five stars is due to two reasons: 1) I have only tried one thing (and perhaps this review will change to a 5 star rating once I try more things). 2) The pupusas were a lot smaller than what I have previously received at other pupuserias and though the taste was good, there is another pupuseria (by gulfton) that had even better taste and bigger pupusas (for the same price). Overall: I would recommend coming here; however, thats solely due to the pupusas (as it's the only thing I've tried). They're good! read more

I haven't had pupusas since my last trip to El Salvador in 2010. Eating here made me feel like I was at home with my family. The pupusas were fresh and good. Served with a tamales and an empanada, I took my time to savor the food that I grew up with. If you like tamales, be aware that their theirs have olives; my wife was surprised by this. The pace is slow and relaxed, which is what I like. If you're in on a hot day, make sure to have a glass of horchata or tamarindo. I look forward to coming back. read more

Great authentic El Salvadoran spot. We have been coming here for years and the food is always great. Always fresh, so if your in a hurry you need to chill because they are making it from scratch. If you have never tried El Salvadoran food this place a great spot. Also watch out for the hot sauce they set on the table, it's made with habanero. A little goes a long way. read more

Not sure how people are raving about how great the pupusas are here, but apparently they are not familiar with a great pupusa. Anyhow, this place was not as busy for it to take amore then 40 minutes to get our food. Once we got our food, we had one little small container of curtido (slaw that goes over the pupusas) for all of us. Mind you, in total it was about 8 or 10 pupusas that were ordered. When we asked the waitress for more because it was only enough for one order, she said sarcastically that she would bring the whole jar. Took her close to 10 minutes for her to come back with another small container. But, lets disregard that for a second, lets talk about flavor. For all that time that we had to wait for the order, I was expecting for the food to have it. It was very bland. I typically order revueltas (mixed stuffing) and everywhere I have gone, you can always taste that rich flavor. To tell you the truth, on these, I can honestly say that there was none. I felt like I was eating a tortilla stuffed with cheese. The tomato sauce was also very watery and lacking flavor. Once we were done, we asked for to go boxes and the check. 5 minutes pass by, another waitress asks us how we were doing, told her that we were waiting on boxes and check, nothing. A 3rd waitress asks us the same thing, and at that point I told her that she was the 3rd one to ask and our answer has been the same with no results of getting the boxes and check. Which means all that time, we waited there for a good 12 minutes just to get the boxes but no check. Once we packed, I instead went up to the counter and told our waitress that I was ready to run out and not pay since she never wanted to bring the check to us. Which she said jokingly that she would've chased us outside to pay which I in returned answered that I doubted it since she never bothered to give us the check and same would've been for her to collected the amount. Never again! Don't even bother. read more

Its open til 9 not 10 on sundays. We came all the way for pupusas to find it closed. So didn't try it

Wow, the pupusas were amazing! I was itching to try authentic pupusas, and Los Guanacos did not disappoint. I ordered 2 pupusas, which came with a helping of salsa roja and curtido (Salvadoran pickled cabbage), and was pleasantly surprised that I indeed was FULL ordering just the pupusas. The pupusas revueltas was a perfect blend of pork, beans, and cheese, which I preferred over the pupusas de locoro. It isn't a big corporate chain restaurant, but rather a meticulously-executed mom-and-pop restaurant, so don't expect bells and whistles here, just fantastic food. Although they will approach you with Spanish, there are employees who will take your order in English if you would like. Will definitely be back to try the rest of the menu! read more

The pupusas were okay, not impressed. Not likely to return. I ordered 2 Pupusas revueltas of chicharrón and queso to go and asked for extra curtido. I was informed that they charge $1.50 for curtido. I've never been charged extra for curtido since it's a staple with the pupusas and it would be like charging ketchup on a hotdog. I guess the lady that took my order saw my face because they packed a ziploc bag with plenty of extra curtido. read more

I made the trek all the way out here for some good pupusas and I wasn't disappointed! My boyfriend is Salvadoran (born and raised there) and he says this is his favorite place for pupusas in Houston. What's a pupusa? A pupusa is a signature Salvadoran dish that's a corn tortilla-like dough stuffed with pork, cheese, beans, and/or loroco (vine flower bud from Central America). The stuffing is sealed shut inside the dough. A pupusa is about 6 inches in diameter. You know a pupusa is good when the dough is not too thick and it's still stuffed with tons of cheese and meat. YUM! These bad boys are only $1.55 so you can get a cheap meal for sure. However, be prepared for a massive food coma afterward because pupusas are not part of a light diet. The service was very attentive and friendly. We ordered 5 pupusas total and 2 drinks and the bill was under $12! read more

I love this restaurant so much! They cook authentic Salvadorean food. If you live on the west side of town this is must. If you don't live on this side of town head here maybe an hour before you are hungry so that by the time you get here order food and start eating you will be Hungry by then. I highly recommend this place! The tamarind drink is so good! They also have bottled Coca Cola always cold. The pupusas the national dish of salvador the bomb diggidy my favorite is loroco which is little green plant they make it with ever so good cheese inside the pupusa is amazeballs! Also the "casamiento" red beans and rice is sooooo good try it with a piece of hard Salvadorean cheese and cream. You will not be disappointed. Or try the mariscada soup is so good. read more

I went here a couple of weeks ago. I ordered chicharron(pork) con queso(with cheese) pupusas, with rice and fried plantains. OMG, they were so good. Loved it. I took the order togo and I didn't wait long at all. The shopping center where this place is at may not be the best but who cares as long as the food is good. I will be going back. read more

OMG pupusas are my new favorite food! I'm a white guy that wanted to try something new... Los Guanacos is close to my house and the reviews were good, so I built up my courage and sought out to try something new. I can't believe it took me so long to walk through that door. The restaurant is clean, the waiter was patient with me (I don't speak Spanish), and the food was awesome. I had 2 pork/cheese pupusas, rice and beans, and chicken soup... This was the best meal I've had in weeks. Life is too short to keep eating the same meals over and over again, so try something new today! read more

What a great name for a Pupusa place! This is another authentic establishment to feast on El Salvadoran cuisine. The place is not much to look at, but the food never disappoints. The Pupusas are greasy, delicious and the rest of their menu follows suit. I highly recommend you try Atol de Elote and Tamles de Elote (with cream of course!) here. read more

From the outside it looks like a hole in the wall but the inside is pretty clean. They keep their inventory out in the open so you can see boxes of the Mexican Coca Cola bottles, plastic cups, etc. It's quiet and good for kids, they have TVs on but not too loud. The service was excellent, staff made good recommendations and explained the menu well. Seems like it's family owned and run by family too. Definitely coming back again and now one of my fave pupuserias in Houston! read more

Coming from a Salvadorean background, and having the most delicious pupusas in El Salvador, I find it tough to find a decent place when living away from my parents house on the other side of Houston. But this place, which is literally less than 10 minutes away, is great!! My boyfriend, who is up for trying new foods, loves it, but always adds a kick of spice to his pupusas ;) He's a fan of the lorroco.
