Ample parking. Lovely service. I really enjoyed our meals. Everything was so fresh and you could tell made with love. The salsa is FIRE. So spicy and yet so good. The Papusas had a great flavor and the cabbage that accompanied was so good. Flavorful and crisp. Yuca and fried pork was really so good. I loved how they were cooked. Let's start with the papusas they were so soft with the right amount of crispy areas , and the fillings were so good ! Now let's get into this rice ... it was an unexpected star of the show ! Lots of thing to consider here. First, the food is great and is freshly made. So 5 stars there. The problem is that the place is a bit of a hole. Like many restaurants in strip malls in Houston, if feel like some updating can be done. You know to make the place feel newer and clean then some run down place with many water stains on the ceiling etc. While this is kinda the norm in Houston, I wish it would change. When we went, it was crazy hot inside and I think an AC was broken. It was like 83 or 84 inside which made the super long wait for the made from scratch food miserable. Staff is always pretty friendly - so no complains there. Long story short, it will be a long wait for food. But it's really good and freshly made. Just hope that you don't have to wait while they have AC issues. Overall, totally worth visiting. read more

My girlfriend and I came here after the missus was craving pupusas. So we ordered a handful. And a half. (Many many pupusas). The pupusas were delicious and tasty, and though a bit greasy, it was nothing out of the ordinary. The only reason this place isn't getting five stars is due to two reasons: 1) I have only tried one thing (and perhaps this review will change to a 5 star rating once I try more things). 2) The pupusas were a lot smaller than what I have previously received at other pupuserias and though the taste was good, there is another pupuseria (by gulfton) that had even better taste and bigger pupusas (for the same price). I haven't had pupusas since my last trip to El Salvador in 2010. Eating here made me feel like I was at home with my family. The pupusas were fresh and good. Served with a tamales and an empanada, I took my time to savor the food that I grew up with. If you like tamales, be aware that their theirs have olives; my wife was surprised by this. The pace is slow and relaxed, which is what I like. If you're in on a hot day, make sure to have a glass of horchata or tamarindo. I look forward to coming back. read more

Not sure how people are raving about how great the pupusas are here, but apparently they are not familiar with a great pupusa. Anyhow, this place was not as busy for it to take amore then 40 minutes to get our food. Once we got our food, we had one little small container of curtido (slaw that goes over the pupusas) for all of us. Mind you, in total it was about 8 or 10 pupusas that were ordered. When we asked the waitress for more because it was only enough for one order, she said sarcastically that she would bring the whole jar. Took her close to 10 minutes for her to come back with another small container. But, lets disregard that for a second, lets talk about flavor. For all that time that we had to wait for the order, I was expecting for the food to have it. It was very bland. I typically order revueltas (mixed stuffing) and everywhere I have gone, you can always taste that rich flavor. To tell you the truth, on these, I can honestly say that there was none. I felt like I was eating a tortilla stuffed with cheese. The tomato sauce was also very watery and lacking flavor. Once we were done, we asked for to go boxes and the check. 5 minutes pass by, another waitress asks us how we were doing, told her that we were waiting on boxes and check, nothing. A 3rd waitress asks us the same thing, and at that point I told her that she was the 3rd one to ask and our answer has been the same with no results of getting the boxes and check. Which means all that time, we waited there for a good 12 minutes just to get the boxes but no check. Once we packed, I instead went up to the counter and told our waitress that I was ready to run out and not pay since she never wanted to bring the check to us. Which she said jokingly that she would've chased us outside to pay which I in returned answered that I doubted it since she never bothered to give us the check and same would've been for her to collected the amount. Wow, the pupusas were amazing! I was itching to try authentic pupusas, and Los Guanacos did not disappoint. I ordered 2 pupusas, which came with a helping of salsa roja and curtido (Salvadoran pickled cabbage), and was pleasantly surprised that I indeed was FULL ordering just the pupusas. The pupusas revueltas was a perfect blend of pork, beans, and cheese, which I preferred over the pupusas de locoro. It isn't a big corporate chain restaurant, but rather a meticulously-executed mom-and-pop restaurant, so don't expect bells and whistles here, just fantastic food. Although they will approach you with Spanish, there are employees who will take your order in English if you would like. Will definitely be back to try the rest of the menu! read more

The pupusas were okay, not impressed. Not likely to return. I ordered 2 Pupusas revueltas of chicharrón and queso to go and asked for extra curtido. I was informed that they charge $1.50 for curtido. I've never been charged extra for curtido since it's a staple with the pupusas and it would be like charging ketchup on a hotdog. I love this restaurant so much! They cook authentic Salvadorean food. If you live on the west side of town this is must. If you don't live on this side of town head here maybe an hour before you are hungry so that by the time you get here order food and start eating you will be Hungry by then. The pupusas the national dish of salvador the bomb diggidy my favorite is loroco which is little green plant they make it with ever so good cheese inside the pupusa is amazeballs! I made the trek all the way out here for some good pupusas and I wasn't disappointed! My boyfriend is Salvadoran (born and raised there) and he says this is his favorite place for pupusas in Houston. What's a pupusa? A pupusa is a signature Salvadoran dish that's a corn tortilla-like dough stuffed with pork, cheese, beans, and/or loroco (vine flower bud from Central America). The stuffing is sealed shut inside the dough. A pupusa is about 6 inches in diameter. You know a pupusa is good when the dough is not too thick and it's still stuffed with tons of cheese and meat. YUM! These bad boys are only $1.55 so you can get a cheap meal for sure. However, be prepared for a massive food coma afterward because pupusas are not part of a light diet. The service was very attentive and friendly. We ordered 5 pupusas total and 2 drinks and the bill was under $12! read more

From the outside it looks like a hole in the wall but the inside is pretty clean. They keep their inventory out in the open so you can see boxes of the Mexican Coca Cola bottles, plastic cups, etc. It's quiet and good for kids, they have TVs on but not too loud. Coming from a Salvadorean background, and having the most delicious pupusas in El Salvador, I find it tough to find a decent place when living away from my parents house on the other side of Houston. But this place, which is literally less than 10 minutes away, is great!! My boyfriend, who is up for trying new foods, loves it, but always adds a kick of spice to his pupusas ;) He's a fan of the lorroco.
