To be honest, we've passed by this restaurant for years but never thought of going in -- it's tucked away at a corner on the far side of the parking lot, and there are so many other restaurants (and even a food court!) between the lot and this place. But we finally gave it a try recently... and instantly fell in love with it The moment I stepped inside, I could smell the strong aroma of Hong Kong-style milk tea -- a very good sign! I ordered the classic stir-fried beef ho fun, which is always my benchmark dish to test how skilled the chef is. Both the milk tea and the ho fun not only met the HK café standard, they outperformed it! It was so satisfying that we went back again today. This time, I ordered the chicken curry rice -- and I have to say, it was the best HK-style chicken curry I've ever had in Canada. I've always loved HK curry and kept searching for a good one here, but never found it until now. Last but not least, the service is great -- super friendly, which is actually not so typical for a Hong Kong café . But of course, that's a big plus!
Went for their afternoon tea and got their hk style toast and bf rice noodle. The hk style toast looked crispy but wasn't. It was okay. The beef rice noodle was a pretty large portion. It was okay. The lai cha is okay. I liked the honey lemon water more. Nothing exciting here. Venue is pretty large though.

I had a craving for French toast, which was prepared as usual but nothing spectacular for $10. A bit steep for two pieces of deep fried bread. The milk tea was very good, as it was smooth and rich with no lingering harness which made it worth it. They take cash or debit, no credit.
This café has been in the Neighbourhood for a long while. I pass by to have a full breakfast with chicken and fried egg with Hong Kong style tea. Taste is fine, not disappointed and no surprise. The service is fast and efficient. Hong Kong style is not that bad. It is a casual local restaurant. It is worth visit once a while. There is parking nearby, but sometimes in peak hours in the weekend, it is not easy to find parking.
Have driven by this place many many times and finally stopped to have lunch. Located at Metro Square on Steeles (west of Warden) this is a Hong Kong style cafe with all the standards you would find in a cha chan teng. We went with a lunch special, Wonton and Beef Brisket Rice Vermicelli Soup. Lunch special comes with a soup and drink. Soup is Chinese broth style, so not your standard borscht or cream soup. Portion and flavour were good. Lots of pieces of braised beef brisket and 3 decent pork and shrimp wonton. There were even vegetables (yu choy). The place was busy over the lunch hour but service was decent.
I have given up on leaving reviews for a hot minute since I know business is hard these few years, but... I must say that they have the worst pineapple bun with butter and Hongkong milk tea in the area. The pineapple bun was hard and dry. They served it kinda warm... I only used 1/3 of the butter they gave me because it took forever (5min) to soften in between the bun. Let's just say I took 2 bites and was stale. As for the HK milk tea?.... Sigh. Can't even. I came here many years ago and never understood why it was popular because food was already pretty mid... if anything, it just got worse. There weren't any other open resto options around in the morning when my fam came here to dine. We ordered a bunch of stuff from the early morning menu. The satay beef on vermicelli had the tiniest amount of beef portioned in. The soup had no taste whatsoever. The beef brisket and tendon noodle soup was mid as well. The beef itself was tender but MY GOD WERE THEY STINGY with the protein. Also, the broth STILL had no taste. The pork chop was pounded out thin and then smothered in gravy. Gravy was ok, pork chop itself was overcooked to smithereens. Same w/ the accompanying egg. Sunnyside up egg gets you a fully cooked one apparently. My bro got an egg sandwich as an accompaniment to his pork chop and received egg that was also overcooked in the sandwich as well. The lemon tea tasted bad, the milk tea was passable. If I could sum up the food in one word it would be: bland. It didn't seem like they seasoned anything at all! I know HK cafe food is supposed to generally be lighter but that doesn't mean NO seasoning loool! Oh yea, some other reviewer mentioned that the server forgot to bring eating utensils to the table. This was also the case for us. Brought all the dishes and left. Returned 5 min later to see how everything tasted already when we thought she was finding cutlery for us in the back.
Haven't been here in quite some time so decided to have lunch here with 2 other friends and 3 kids on a Saturday. It was extremely busy, the wait was about 45-50 mins to get a table. The waitresses there all looked so angry - it almost seemed like they didn't want to work or they weren't getting enough tips. I ordered the fried rice noodle w/ beef, it came with a daily soup and a choice of drink so I got the hong kong milk tea. The prices are slightly higher compared to other cafes and the portion was really small. They should really improve on increasing the portion or perhaps alter their prices.
Inexpensive Hong Kong style Cafe for tea, brunch or snacks. We got the instant noodles with braised beef, The pineapple bun with butter, and some milk teas. Everything was up to standard and very inexpensive. Food was served within 5 minutes of when we arrived. This is a No Frills spot to grab a quick bite, it's even faster than any fast food places. Don't expect kind service or any special decor in the restaurant. There are washrooms available on the ground floor.

Upon arriving, it's quite clean for a Hong Kong cafe with quite some empty tables on a weeknight dinner rush. Upon looking at the menu, I did notice that the prices were fairly cheaper than regular Hong Kong cafes around the area, and understood the pricing one the food came out. The portions are significantly smaller here compared to other restaurants. You can make the meals into combos so I got the iced lemon tea and started with their soup of the day. Both were okay. Onto the food we got: Bitter Melon spare rib rice 3/5 - Very few pieces of both bitter melon and spare ribs. Flavour was not the best and again portion sizing was really little. Seafood fried noodle 4/5 - The better option on the menu. It was quite tasty with a few pieces of seafood like squid. Baked chicken on tomato sauce rice 3/5 - The sauce was a little on the sweeter side and was quite runny than what I'm use to. The corn was a nice added touch. Overall, the restaurant can use some improvements on their menu items. Tastewise, it could be a hit or miss based on what you order.
Super affordable HK cafe! Nothing super special about this place but they definitely deserve 4 stars for being extremely affordable, big portions and fast! I got the black pepper steak with rice ( $12-14), comes with a soup and a drink. The food here is what you expect walking into a HK cafe, comforting and really hits you in the memory lane.
I came to Metro Square Cafe with my friends after a night of NYE partying, looking for a hearty meal for our hangovers. We were looking forward to a simple meal with big portions for reasonable prices. It was a mixed experience to say the least. We were seated upon arrival, which was nice considering it was during brunch hour. Among the food options, the main focus is on Hong Kong Style Diner food, ranging from baked rice, fried noodles, eggs and soup. The set combos come up with a daily soup and coffee/tea. My friends and I ordered from their all day set menu. I ordered the Chicken in Honey Pepper Sauce on Rice. The dish was prepared decently, with the spicy honey sauce complimenting the chicken nicely. However, the portion of the entire dish was lackluster as me and my friend received only 5 pieces of chicken. The bell peppers could have been cooked a tad more and there could have been more sauce to bring the whole dish together. The food here isn't bad, however the portion sizes are below par compared to other HK Diners in the GTA. If there is a time where me and my friends need a quick bite, we will for sure swing by here, but it won't be for a while until they adjust their portions to their prices.
Mediocre Hong Kong style restaurant. Nothing outstanding, yet not much to complaint against either. Average food 3 Star, medium price value 3 Star, the only thing that is above average is the interior 4 Star.... Seatings is well spaced apart, dining area is well kept and inviting. More importantly, the business is open until 9pm. Just for this reason alone, I've been revisiting this restaurant from time to time.
Here's an old-school HK-style Cafe; a bit rough around the edges but satisfying nevertheless. They have many set menu and seasonal deals as well as an extensive a la carte menu. I shared the "winter special" available for lunch before 3 p.m. whereby 2 meals (from a selection) cost $24.99, which included 2 servings of soup (was cream and sweetcorn soup), and a tea or coffee each. That's as good a bargain as any! The fried pork chop was crispy on the outside and tasty in the middle, while the beef balls for the vermicelli were somewhat small but succulent and a good texture. There may be nothing magical about this place, but it is certainly cheap and cheerful and has stood the test of time over many years. read more
Had always wanted to come by whenever I was in the area, but there just so much to eat in this area. Finally got to during afternoon tea time. Inside, the area is decently clean with a good number of tables and seating. Chicken steak with instant noodles - Simple, pan fried chicken, cooked through but not seasoned. Instant noodle were cooked nicely. Simple dish, nothing too special. Probably wouldn't get again. Dry fry beef rice noodles - Lacks the coveted wok hay and was underseasoned. Would not get again. HK french toast - Looks decently fried, and had tell tale signs of a good fry, but was not very crispy. Would not get again. read more

Can't believe it's my first time trying this place even though I grew up in this area. Always looking for a good hk style cafe. I've only tried one thing on their menu (egg sandwich + satay beef vermecilli combo). Apparently they are known for their egg sandwich which did not disappoint. The sandwich had a thick layer of fluffy egg. The vermecilli & hk milk tea were both pretty decent. Can't complain when it's under $10. Will be back to try their other items read more
Satisfied my craving for hk style sizzling steak! What i ordered: Dinner sizzling combos -Fillet mignon -steak, fish, chicken Each combo came with Hk style ham and potato salad And a choice of: Chinese pork bone soup or cream of chicken soup Rice or spaghetti A variety of sauce/gravy Hot or cold drink For the price of $16.99, you get A LOT of food. Everything was what I wanted to satisfy my crave. We came at around 9:10 knowing they close at 10pm. They took our orders and served us pretty quick. But started rushing us to eat and pay by 9:45pm in which i understand, but made me felt pressured and rushed. read more

Hong Kong cafés are one of my happy places you get to experience the unique and delicious menu AND the aggressive (yet warm) greetings! What better afternoon snack than a typical 菠蘿油 - pineapple bun with a thick slab of butter! It came cut in half, and we put in the butter ourselves~ enjoy the sweet, crisp bun top with the halfway melted butter - absolutely heavenly. I've been a customer at this restaurant for many years and they are one of the most consistent HK cafe restaurants I've been to. Their menu has a lot of variety of options to choose from and includes All Day Breakfast. During the pandemic they had a discount for take-out but I'm not sure if they've continued that so far. Their HK milk tea is really flavourful and I particularly enjoy the Portuguese Chicken on Rice as it's mixed with a variety of vegetables and plenty of sauce. There's limited parking right outside the restaurant but you can always park behind the plaza as well. In terms of seating, there is plenty of tables and chairs and service is always quick. read more

Went here with my god brother and his friends, this place is on the southwest side of the Metro Square plaza. Cute HK style cafe. Decent portions and they have specials throughout the day, which are mostly around or under $11 and they come with soup and coffee/tea. I am not a fan of their preserved lemon with honey though. I just wanted a lemon water or tea with honey, but they did not have that. Otherwise, their food is quite affordable and friendly for young families and university students. I might try their curry next time I am here, but this was more of a random spot for me to catch up and see my god brother than anything else. He and his friends wanted somewhere close that is also on the cheaper end. The lower score is mostly because the food selection and taste seems average for a HK style cafe and it took over 20 minutes for our group of 6 to be seated even though many people that came after us were already seated. They just give seats to smaller groups first it would seem, instead of waiting and grouping tables together to have us seated more promptly. We could have sat down much sooner, but it was not until a third of the patrons were leaving all at the same time that they gave our table... Food here seems to be cheaper, too, mainly because it is carb heavy, and not based on nutritional factors. read more
This was actually my first time at this HK cafe. At first, I was pleasantly surprised as they have better deals than other places with many items under $12 even for dinner. This price comes with both soup and tea. There are many seats available, and inside is not too cramped. However, the food quality seems like a hit or miss. We ordered the baked pork chop with tomato sauce and rice, Hainanese chicken with rice, and baked fish fillet with spaghetti. The baked pork chop came in a smaller portion than expected, and the rice was not crispy at the bottom but extremely soft and mushy. It became unappetizing to finish the rest of it. The spaghetti also did not have enough sauce, and was hard and broke into pieces easily. I did like the HK milk tea, and I saw other tables order the pineapple bun or French toast which did seem like a better choice. read more
Everything we expected. We ordered a baked pork chop with tomato sauce and a mo por tofu. Both were delicious. Being the only HK Cafe around that area, it does not shy away from keep their customers with their food. The Mo por tofu and rice was a bit different than the traditional dish, but the flavour combination with minced pork and preserved veggies was excellent. It was less mild and gave the same but exciting flavour profile. I really liked that they also didn't skimp on the rice. They gave a full dome of rice. The pork chop rice was also delicious. It did take longer for it to come suggesting that there was some actual baking involved. After eating in so many restaurants, this place is among the best. Firstly they actually have legit fried pork chop sitting on a bed of fried rice. Some places don't like to crispy up their pork! And the sauce is always the star of the show. They were absolutely perfect on the amount of sugar added. It doesn't sting like the sour tomato sauces in some other restaurants. I was extremely impressed by this HK Cafe. After all these years, it still has maintained its quality. read more
The service is Hong Kong Style, the decor has been renovated and the menu has been upgraded to more varieties. I like the owner he is very friendly and greet the customers extra warm. I am glad this store location remains unchanged and even it is actually getting better options from the menu. The milk tea quality has not change to be worse. It remains the same quality like before. Price has gone up reasonably. If you like speedy service and HK style milk tea it is definitely a place. read more
Went to have lunch and trying our luck if we can find a table due to limitation of 10 ppl ! We have been coming to this restaurant for years , lots of variety in breakfast and lunch combos ! My husband ordered the same combo as usual - satay noodles and egg sandwiches as combo and comes with HK tea ! Today I felt weird when they used the plastic cover to replace a ceramic plate to carry our sandwich, but used the paper plate for my noodle! Why didn't they use paper plate for the sandwich. Overall it was good lunch , glad we can help the local business! read more
This is your typical HK cafe restaurant, with maximum menu options and for a frugal price. Maybe it's what I ordered but it seems like I made the wrong choice. Choosing to go with the curry chicken with veg and rice, the dish came to the table and I was surprised how slopped together it looked. Normally I don't judge appearances at HK cafe's because the food usually tastes great, but this was not the case here. Probably the best part about the dish was the curry. Now I understand I only ordered that dish so maybe I made the wrong choice but I still expected better, even for that. The chicken was fatty with not a lot of meat, the veggies (peppers and eggplant) were grilled but didn't seem to go well with the curry flavour. Now my biggest issue surprisingly was with the rice. Normally at a HK cafe I'm used to having a nice bite to rice fresh out of the rice cooker. This rice was definitely over cooked, tasting bland and mushy. :( It will take a lot of convincing to get me to come back, but likely I'd opt for other HK cafe's that deliver consistent quality dishes. read more

RIP. Changed chefs. Food has gone downhill, crashed against a boulder, and exploded into fiery hell. I ordered the baked spaghetti bolognese and my friend ordered the baked chicken a la king. It is obvious they changed chefs, even the plating for the baked dishes has changed. The spaghetti bolognese had an odd taste, but it's edible. The chicken a la king was dry, so my friend ordered some extra sauce to be brought over. It was obvious that they brought a different sauce than the sauce for the dish as there was an obvious COLOUR and TEXTURE discrepancy. It was bad. *the new sauce looks like a large sperm sample...! We also ordered a pineapple french toast. The toast was topped with ONE anorexic pineapple slice and tasted stale. The milk teas that came with our order were grainy and had a dry after-thought. RIP, this place used to be good. read more

Metro Squre Cafe is the sister company of Mei Cheun in Scarborough. However the deco and the environment is a lot better. The seatings are more comfortable and the place is much cleaner! The menu is really similar with the same set menu. I usually having a a late lunch/brunch. My favourite is the Satay Meal set ($4.99) that comes with a Satay beef noodle soup, egg sandwich and coffee/tea. The HK style tea is one of the best in the area and I love their egg sandwich because the egg is always really fluffy. However, there is not too much healthy options, the bread is usually white bread and not much fresh vegetables. If you are looking for fast services and consistent food that's the place to go! Inside Metro Square Plaza at the west corner facing Steeles. After a slight renovation it looks a bit more modern but the menu barely changed. They added some fancier and westernized items like garlic prawns and beef tenderloin, scallop and sirloin steak, etc. The food is not that amazing. Their combo soups taste like nothing and had no bits inside to chew on, pure liquid. The Hong Kong style milk tea is not as good as before. The combo prices typically range from$5 to $8. For a cheap filling this place is okay, but if you expect good tasty food, I wouldn't suggest this place. The service is average I asked for a dessert (French Toast w/ Ice Cream), the server dropped the plate but I had no forks. The table was empty I had to ask for forks. Super cheap HK fare -- keep in mind they seemed to have raised their prices some time in March 2018 (almost everything on the menu has gone up by 40 cents compared to the photos of the menu I took back in February 2018). I find that some of the dishes are hit/miss, depending on what you order... example, yunnan pork with vermicelli is a sad amount of yunnan pork (looked like it was half a can of this meat you can get in a supermarket) and not enough food for one person. There was a lamb chop menu option that doesn't seem to be there anymore but the portions were good. Black pepper sauce steak is a thin slice of steak but it was very chewy.
