Metro Diner was recommended by my mother as my family and I visited Plainfield from Arizona and, wow. The food was amazing! We had the chicken and waffles, pink mimosas, and San Francisco Benedict. Food was cooked beautifully and our waitress Lindsey was on point. All over the refills, suggestions, empty plates, and take-away. A nice gentlemen came and talked to our son and discussed sports and the service and gave our boy a hat to go along with baseball. Come to find out it was one of the owners and he was awesome. I had the fish sandwich with mashed potatoes and gravy. The potatoes were the real deal,not instant.The gravy had bits of onion and was very tasty ! The fish sandwich was huge! Nice white fish breaded just enough to have that added crunch. They advertise their meals as having huge portions which most definitely is not false advertisment ! Had a decent experience at the Metro Diner. The service was by far the best part. Our server was nothing short of fantastic. The food was just okay. The pics of the food (and rating) posted on Yelp led us to this place while passing through the area. My whole family ordered breakfast for dinner. I got the biscuits and gravy. Everything was fine, except the gravy wasn't seasoned properly. It was a bit bland for sausage gravy. My wife enjoyed her avocado toast and both of our plates had a ton of food so we didn't leave hungry. Smaller than expected, the place was mostly full just after 11 AM on a Thursday. By the time we left an hour later, there was a wait. The front is a bit crowded as the entrance/exit is the same door. Between the large hostess stand and the folks waiting, the area gets a bit congested. I like the diner feel with the paper placemats with local advertising. The server, Jennifer, was friendly and helpful. They serve their entire menu all day. It's a large menu with a number of unique options. There are many other things I hope to try. My friend had the Big Bern's Tenderloin and it looked amazing. He really enjoyed the blend of flavors commenting specifically about the occasional burst of heat from the fried jalapeños. The side order was missing upon delivery, but our server checked on us immediately and noticed before we did. While she was off getting the missing side, a manager also noticed. That was impressive because it spoke to his awareness of orders. I had the chicken and waffles, which was okay. The waffle was a perfectly normal waffle served with strawberry butter. The strawberry butter did not taste heavily of berries to me. The fried chicken was well cooked, albeit a little dark. Maybe the oil was a tad too hot? The flavor was good and the chicken was not dry. The "spicy syrup" served with the chicken and waffles is prepared at the table using their maple syrup and the Louisiana hot sauce that's at the table. This particular hot sauce isn't well flavored to me, so the concoction wasn't ideal, but I did dip into it occasionally. The place is overwhelmingly loud and bustling. I was not a huge fan of the atmosphere and I was ready to go when we finished. I also don't like the parking lot. I'm a fan of no door dings and this place is asking for it. This is more of a people issue than a Metro Diner issue. I'd probably park at Meijer and walk over the next time. I look forward to going back at some point and trying other things. read more

A solid choice for lunch! I've been trying to eat better, so I've had some of the lighter things - salad have all been good, I love the chicken salad and I even ventured up to the grilled cheese. We started off w/pineapple mimosas, my friend found something in her glass and was quickly replaced. Besides that, we enjoyed ourselves! I ordered the special, the sticky chicken and waffles - the chicken had a sweet kick and the syrup added even more sweet heat! I eat here 2-3 times a week. I enjoy the breakfast as well as their turkey dinner with stuffing, mashed potatoes with gravy. I order the steamed broccoli as a side. Delicious. Their chicken and waffles breakfast is the best, according to my Granddaughter. Brittany is an awesome server as are the rest of the servers. We sat on their covered patio and two of us got the fried chicken platter - 1/2 of a chicken, biscuit & two sides), which is a very large portion and tasted really good (I would get something else besides the green beans next time). My co-worker stopped in for lunch today a little before noon. We were seated immediately and quickly greeted by Shaylee. I could tell as soon as she came to our table we were going to get fantastic service! She took our drink orders and quickly returned to give us suggestions from the menu. I love when a server knows the menu and can make good recommendations. We needed a few minutes to decide and she gave us that but quickly returned when she knew we were ready to order. I got the black and blue burger. It came with a side and I got the seasoned fries. Shaylee offered us ranch when she took our order and told us it was made from scratch. It was delicious! I dipped my fries in it and got every last drop out. The burger was nice a big (bigger than the bun). It came with tomato, lettuce, bacon and blue cheese. I think some type of aioli sauce would have definitely enhanced the texture of the burger as it was just a bit dry...:not the meat itself but it was just lacking a condiment. I got a Coke Zero and Shaylee was quick with the refills and gave us to go cups as well. I have to say I was quite shocked when I got the bill and the Coke Zero was $3.49! So the price of a fountain drink and the lack of a condiment on the burger is where my 5 stars went to 4. My coworker got the club sandwich with fries and cole slaw. It looked amazing. She said it was very good. I was also impressed that after Shaylee took our order the manager came over to our booth to check in and also gave us a 20% off dinner coupon which was really nice and appreciated. My only other negative and I realize after Covid restaurants are just lucky to have employees come to work, the floors seemed kind of dirty. The restrooms were clean enough but we both agreed that the floors needed some attention. I've been wanting to switch up the breakfasts spots and decided to give Metro a try. We came on a Sunday early afternoon and got seated right away. Our waitress was very friendly and took our order fast. I ordered a skillet type thing with sausage, egg, hashbrowns, and veggies. It was good but there was WAYYYYY too much cheese. So much cheese that I had to layer most of it off because I couldn't even taste the other foods in it. I also don't think they cooked the eggs thoroughly because the mix of all the ingredients created a lot of water at the bottom of the skillet. The square potatoes though were delicious. Next time I come I will have to try something else for sure. My friend ordered biscuits and gravy and they were really good.
