Came to Metro Diner with a friend after not knowing what to eat. When we walked in we were quickly greeted and taken to our table. I quickly sat down and started to look at the menu. With fall right around the corner I knew I had to satisfy my pumpkin craving. I noticed the pumpkin waffle and ordered that and a grilled cheese. Our server was quick and attentive and quickly took our order down. Took some time but our food was finally here. I first took a bite of the pumpkin waffle and was a bit disappointed. It was delicious with the right hint of pumpkin, but the waffle itself was soggy. The taste was there but I just wished the waffle was more crisp. Grilled cheese was good and filling. Cool atmosphere (reminds you of the old diners from the 50's). Food was very average. I had a burger that consisted of a frozen patty heated up on an old brioche bun that was hard. The service was very good and others seemed to enjoy their food. Maybe I'll give it another try one day. read more

Great tasting food does have an emotional response and the chicken and waffle at the Metro Diner in Plainfield takes me back to when my Mom used to buy a whole chicken at the grocery store and take it home to cut it up into the 8 pieces that she coated with seasoning and flour and fried up to a crispy outside and juicy inside. That is what great food should do for you! I get my waffle with blueberries and the strawberry butter on the side. Stopped by for breakfast while we were visiting Indianapolis. I had the Eggs Benedict, my other half a breakfast bowl. It was decent, nothing out of the ordinary. Not the best hollandaise sauce on the Benedict, had a strange margarine taste. Coffee was bland and watered down. Needing a decent cup of coffee, we later went to the Art Museum, and to compare, the coffee there was fantastic. Our first visit to this location. We were seated right away. Our waitress was very friendly. The restaurant was clean, nicely lit and not super busy, but did have plenty of patrons. It is a little chilly in the restaurant but it was also a dreary, cold and rainy day so that may have contributed to it. Both my husband and I ordered the fish and chips with coleslaw and I ordered a side of the cheesy grits. My daughter had the chicken tenders and fries that also came with coleslaw. The fish was delicious! Light, crispy beer battered and not greasy. The fries were fresh and crispy. My grits were really good! Thick and the cheese was melted as opposed to just shredded cheese being tossed on top. My daughter thoroughly enjoyed her chicken and fries. She was very quiet and concentrated on her food which is a good sign that she really likes it! The portions are large and we were stuffed when we left. This has been a go to place for brunch with my spouse ever since we have tried it months back. An added plus in Plainfield is that they serve alcohol! So, if you love a morning mimosa like me look no further! They offer different flavors as well if you do not like the traditional orange juice taste. The prices here are debateably the best around for the caliber of food and drink you get. The service is beyond excellent! We have not had the same server yet, but each one we do have gives us their best and friendliest care. Forewarning, do not be discouraged if there is a wait on the weekend. We have waited before and it is so worth it! It does get packed here, but flows quick and easy; so no fretting. If you are a sweets person like myself please go for the Cinnamon Roll Pancakes that is listed underneath their Griddle Greats. I was recommended this, but do not get syrup to put on top... trust me! These are not the traditional ones where it requires it; so you can thank me later. My latest venture on their menu was the Steak & Scramble bowl. This does not disappoint. Stopped in for lunch with a small group of coworkers and we were immediately greeted by the hostess & sat at a large table. This was my first time at Metro Diner though many in my group had been before and raved about the meatloaf. The restaurant seemed clean, had updated chalkboard menus, and would be family friendly if you were with your kiddos. The waitress came to take our order and seemed less than enthusiastic to be there, but it was lunch rush so we placed our orders. I got the breakfast burger (medium) with a medium cooked egg & house salad. There was an almost 15 minute wait for our food but it was ample time for us to chat. The food seemed pretty good for others, meatloaf was a hit (as always I'm told), but I can't say as I enjoyed my burger. The patty was over cooked and the egg was over easy. Not ideal but not inedible either. I wish I had ordered a slice of pecan pie to go because dessert makes everything better! The service was so bad that 2 minutes after my family and I sat down we made a simple request , a request that should not have taken our server Brittney more than 30 seconds to accommodate . Curbside to go was quick easy and the food was good. The salmon with green beans and mashed potatoes was filling, though I think it was a bit heavy in garlic. The pot pie was not put together the same but still had all the ingredients, this meal is a bit on the salty side, but still tasty comfort food. I guess my husband and I like pretty bland food :-D either way, we'd still recommend Metro. It's been one of our favorites for awhile. Having cabin fever from the Corona lock down, I just had to venture in here the day of re-opening. I have to say it was somewhat odd, then again, this is all new and nobody really has a grasp on the social distance dining experience. The do have very few tables in here at the moment (50%) and every other booth is blocked off. All staff is of course wearing face masks. With the entire restaurant to myself, of course I received stellar service. There is nothing on the tables anymore. Gone is your dish with butter, salt and pepper shaker, jellies and such. You just have to ask for it now. At least you know that not everybody had their fingers on it and that it all comes to your table freshly sterilized. Good job. The food is still great.. I am particularly fond of their sausage links. No idea why they are so good, but I would like to crown them as the industry's best. Honorable mention goes to their Mimosas, which are a real bargain at $2.99. It's a fairly good sized portion and pretty tasty if I might add. This feels like a good old town favorite joint. I feel right at home. My waitress,Debra, was so sweet and attentative. It is like eating food at home with my famiy. I started my meal with a nice glass of fresh squeezed orange juice until my damn Fried Chicken & waffle was ready Boy, it was worth the wait. My dish was so large, it could probably feed two people. The chicken was crispy, tender and juicy. My waffle was cooked to perfection with their ever delicious strawberry butter. I honestly was eating as I have not been fed. Long story short, great restaurant, superior service, yummy food and reasonable price. Additionally, it is featured on one of Guy Fieri"s Diner's Drive Diners.
