Went for lunch 1st time there. I had the meatloaf plate. Absolutely the WORST meatloaf ever!! All bread, no meat! Yuck! Mashed potatoes were ok, and gravy was ok. Mixed veggies were bland and tasteless. My friend had the shrimp and grits. They were to be on a grit cake but we're out of the cakes, so they substituted cheese grits. It turned out to be more of a shrimp and grits soup!. Flavor was really good, but it wasn't shrimp and grits as you know it. I enjoyed my experience the first time I went. The second time on the other hand was horrible! It took an hour and thirty minutes to receive our food, the appetizer came out with the meal, our server barely came around then let our drinks stay empty and our food was cold. It was Mother's Day but that is no excuse because tables that had gotten there 20-30 minutes after us food was received before us. Great Place for satisfying food - whatever you're in the mood for. They have a huge menu: From chicken pot pie to chicken and waffles to meatloaf. The Holy Davoli burger is possibly the best burger I've ever eaten. A half pound burger topped with lettuce slaw and bacon - sandwiched between two GRILLED CHEESE SANDWICHES! I've only lived here for almost 8 months and by far this is my favorite restaurant in Alabama! I crave it everyday and my favorite dish is the Waffles & Chickens. And I tends to ordered it more often then the other dishes but I love every dish I've tried so far. In addition, their customer services, the employees from servers to waitresses, waiters, are friendly and mostly on point with assisting customers. I truly would love to see this restaurant to expands much bigger than it is because it is always so crowded and that is a great thing because it shows how much the community and other potential customers enjoying the foods and everything about Metro Diner. I love the board they have serving daily new specials and just the atmosphere too is very warm and welcoming. This place deserves double stars if provided for mega excellence! Thank you for serving! The service was great but my sausage links tasted sour so I could not eat it. But the chicken and waffles were great.

Great spot for breakfast. I got the2 eggs combo. It came with 3 slices of bacon and 2 full slices of toast and hash browns. Eggs were cooked well and the bacon was crispy. My son first ordered the kids waffle. He didn't care for the taste (tasted good to the adults) so we got him a biscuit and egg which he enjoyed. I didn't expect them to but they comped the waffle. Definitely won't be back. We arrived right before 8pm knowing they closed at 9. The food was amazing. The service was absolutely awful. We were helped by everyone except our waitress, and not because she was helping customers. She was either cleaning up tables or talking to other employees about how she was going to the beach. My husband had to get to get our own straws because the waitress forgot and never came back by. His coke was empty for about five minutes. Finally another employee came and offered a refill. We were literally the only people in there 45 minutes before closing. We had to wait for yet another person to ask us if we needed our check. I've never had service that bad and felt so ignored. But the food was great. I highly recommend the food if you don't mind horrible service or hopefully you get a decent waitress unlike us. read more

We've eaten here twice. Both time the flavor and menu was excellent. First time, though, my wife's food was served cold. Server couldn't find a manger. After about 20 min, at meals end, she was embarrassed to say that her manager was never located and no one knew where he was. Because the food was great, we tried it again last night. Again, food was great but the service this time was a disaster. No drink refills, forgot my toddlers drink, nearly spilt pitcher of ice water on toddler, when he scanned my card he handed it back wet and sticky, etc. Then when we were leaving, we asked the hostess to get us a to go drink because we didn't want to deal with the server any more. She got a server to go get it, and proceeded to tell a manager about the situation. He looked at us and then walked away. The food and menu here is great, and I hope they either get new management or get their acts together, because it would be a shame for this restaurant to not succeed. read more

My fiancé and I came and ate at this new location Tuesday night. We decided to sit at the bar top overlooking the cooks working to avoid the wait. The cooks took the time to ask us how our meal was that they had just prepared. It was fantastic! They were so positive and uplifting towards one another on a super busy time in their night. Our waitress was SO nice! She was assertive and helpful with menu items! Unfortunately we had this grumpy old man come and sit by us with a book. He hadn't even been sitting for 15 seconds before he grabbed a waitress and demanded "What does it take to get some service around here?" Through his rude comment, the waitress was still so professional and polite we were actually shocked. He then said what he wanted, said "I want it now, and I want it free of charge!!" I was honestly shocked at the audacity this guy had after only sitting about 15 SECONDS and I don't even know if they gave it to him but they professionalism they showed and the service was commendable! Oh my! The Chicken and waffles are delicious! I'm a real fussy person when eating fried chicken. This chicken is not greasy but moist with crispy coating. Absolutely the best ever chicken with a fantastic tasting waffle. Now here's the real kicker... this was a take out order! The meal was packed well. The Chicken container held the four pieces of chicken and three containers of scrumptious sauce. The waffle container had strawberry butter, regular butter, and syrup. This waffle was thick buttermilk Belgian style. It surpassed expectations! Actually the whole experience from ordering right up to pick up was an excellent experience! I have been wanting to try this place out as I've heard good things about it. We order and the waiter, James (I think), brings back one order and along with my fries. He said my meal will be a little longer. (Why would you bring fries out when they get cold so fast?) 7 minutes later my food comes out. I ask for new fries as mine are now cold. The new fries finally show up as I am finishing my meal. They tasted like they were fried with fish. I asked James if they mix cooking oil. He said no and walked off. When he comes back with the check I told him the fries tasted horrible. He couldn't care less that we were in there, yet alone about the fries. The common sense thing to do would be to remove the fries OR at least apologize. He never even thanked us for coming in. I will definitely not be back. read more

I have eaten here a few times and the food is ok., Tried different things to see if I wanted to keep going. The last time I went though nailed it for me I will not return first we sat there for 20 minutes no drinks no food, finally we got the waitress. Ordered our food waited around 20 minutes to get it not bad amount of time but when we got it it was all cold. (weird but ok) Whatever by that time we were so hungry we ate it. We sat there with no refiled and several items missing from our meals. (sauces, ranch, sour cream, creamer for the coffee) We finish and sat there waiting for our check for 35 min. Holy crap are you kidding. I tapped on the shoulder of another server asking for it she said she will get the server and they never came back. I finally decided to get up and walk toward the area where the cash register was to just pay. The server than walked up to me handed me the ticket and walked away.
