We were on the road from Atlanta to Myrtle Beach and my lovely wife found Metro Diner after an on-line search. When I saw a sign at the entry that said "Where locals go to eat", I hoped we were in the right place. Our enthusiastic and attentive waiter Trey took his time to explain alternatives for our order and we got just what we wanted. The old man went for the fried chicken dinner, though the chicken and waffle was tempting. This was some of the best fried chicken I have had in a long time; it came right out of the fryer and was very hot. Juicy, lots of flavor with a crispy coating. Excellent mashed potatoes were clearly homemade with very good gravy. I got a side of Mac and cheese because I was in the south and that is a litmus test; very good flavor and al dente macaroni. A truly terrific biscuit was perfect. Trey provided timely refills of my drink and followed up to make sure we were happy. Darling wife had a veggy wrap with superb, tender crisp grilled vegetables on the side. She said it was one of the best wraps she ever had and honestly it was a pleasant surprise in a diner emphasizing traditional southern comfort food. During our meal, both the manager and owner stopped at our table to check on the food and service. I was amazed to learn that they have many Metro Diners and are a growing company; the fact that the homemade food is of such high quality is remarkable. I love the Metro Diner! I honestly thought this was one of those restaurants that had probably been around forever in Augusta and was surprised to find out it hasn't been around that long because it's clearly a hotspot since there is often a wait in the mornings and it just has that homey feel. They really have it together, even during the pandemic. I have never had less than superb service and the food is always tasty, well prepared and the portions are very large. I love that they have unique offerings that I would never put together also. Oh, and they have cheap Mimosas and Bloody Mary's that are good too! read more

This has been far the greatest place to eat for breakfast. Today I had the breakfast burger. It comes with cheddar cheese, egg, bacon, lettuce, tomato and hash-browns. That tops with the hollandaise sauce. It is a very big burger and could only eat a third of it. The server was very good and new her menu. The restaurant is clean. I got a side of Caesar salad and grits. The Caesar salad had grilled chicken on it and it is packed with flavor from the grill. Little bit too much ceaser dressing but it was good to dip the chicken in the extra. The grits could use some more water to soak in and be more puffy but it was very good. I came here around three in the afternoon for a late brunch, and was seated immediately. I ordered the San Francisco Benedict and exchanged the hash browns for a fruit cup. What was supposed to be a poached egg was more of a soft boiled egg, but it didn't bother me much. Also, I was expecting some cayenne pepper on top, traditionally, but it was missing. The avocado and tomato were fresh however, and I appreciated that. In the fruit cup was honeydew melon, cantaloupe, strawberries, and grapes, which I loved. Traveling through to Atlanta and stopped in. Very good food. The portions are very generous. I had the Monte Cristo sandwich--it was huge and delicious. The raspberry preserves were rich. The chips were awesome. My husband had the chicken pot pie. It was as close to homemade as a chain can get. He also had mashed potatoes, which were wonderful. Metro to Go. I ordered Metro to go on Mother's Day because well...social distancing. We were hankering for some chicken and waffles w/ a few extra waffles. Be it that it a bit of a ways from our house, door dash doesn't deliver so I had to make the long drive there. We thought we had ordered a non complicated order, but upon pickup and arriving home, something was missing. THE CHICKEN. Distraught we called and called and called to no avail. Y'all!!!! Let's talk about portion size! My husband and I could have shared meals and STILL had leftovers!!! My husband got biscuits and gravy which includes hash browns and eggs. I got the meal (I forgot the name) eggs, bacon, biscuit, hash browns, and short stack of pancakes. While the food did take a little bit to come to the table, I could see they were steady getting orders out. This place was such a throwback to the diner days and I loved the retro music playing. This diner represents southern hospitality at its best in my opinion. Having read positive Yelp reviews and further encouraged to visit here due to Guy's visit on Triple D, my sister and I decided to do a Monday brunch date at this cozy spot in Augusta, GA. I am all about brunch and diners. It does not get much better than good coffee and a midday meal that will knock the fatigue right back into ya! Walking in, the diner admittedly does not look like much. It's about as basic as a diner will get. But it's clean and seems very cozy. We got lucky and were seated right away. My sister told me there is usually a 15-30 min wait on the weekends if you're going then, but that doesn't bother me. Again, if there is a wait...there is a reason. And usually the reason is that the establishment is off the chain! First off...the coffee. They have flavored coffees and the server, Zach, zeroed in to my empty cup EVERY TIME. YESSS. The caffeine was a-flowing and I did not mind that one bit. Zach..you sir are my hero. French vanilla aroma and sweet, sa-sweet caffeine! When it came time to order, there were a lot of choices to choose from. Of course you have the standard fare, omelets, breakfast sandwiches, etc. But I love that they usually have specialty breakfast items and those tempt me a bit more. I've heard great things about the Peach Yo Holla, but they didn't have that this time around. They had Sammy's pancakes that were pancakes that had a bunch of delicious ingredients in them like chocolate chips, whip cream, strawberries and bananas, and peanut butter sauce. My sister got that and it was amazing! I tried the fried chicken and waffles. Definitely not diet food, but very very good. The waffles were deliciously topped with strawberry butter and the fried chicken breading was super flavorful. Also, Zach hooked me up with a diner hack. He mixed maple syrup and Louisiana hot sauce to make a sweet and spicy drizzle to go on the chicken. I do this all the time at home with hot sauce and honey...love the sweet and heat together. Super good! Overall, the food was great and the prices were all between $8-15 for a breakfast entree that is definitely enough to leave you with leftovers for later on or the next day. Metro Diner ruined my marriage. A little over dramatic I know but I wanted to get your attention. You see, I have another love in my life now. After a long day of work I decided to try the chicken and waffles. Now, I've had c&w's many times. I've even had it at places that have it in their name. Believe me when I tell you this. NONE of them compare to what I just consumed. When I ordered it I was thinking $15+ for c&w's seems a little high. Then I opened my carry out containers. Full thick waffle in one and a half chicken in the other. (Leg, wing, thigh and breast) I started with the waffle. Light, fluffy, buttery. Higher end syrup had great flavor. Then I opened the cup that had the strawberry butter in it and things went up a level. I don't recommend it but you could probably spread this stuff on a shoe and it would be amazing! That was a lot of sweet so I turned my attention to the chicken for a little salty to even it out. Grabbed the leg, just plain... CRUNCH! If you only go here for chicken you will send me mental high fives. The best chicken I've ever had. I know what you're thinking. My Nana's recipe is amazing and what about those restaurants that specialize in chicken. LOL This is better. Now that I had my salty to even out my palette, I went for the syrup on the chicken... SOOOO GOOD! Then I noticed that the separate cup of what I thought was syrup in the box with my chicken had a different color to it. Dip my chicken... SHUT THE FRONT DOOR! What kind of evil genius thought to mix syrup and hot sauce together and put it with chicken?! I don't care, I'll say it... I love you. So, long story short. Great spot before heading into Disney parks! Staff was so friendly and checked on us often. I got the avocado toast which was a surprisingly bigger portion than expected and my boyfriend got an omelette which he said was good. My wife & I were given a $13 gift certificate during a previous visit because our food wasn't cooked properly. We decided to go back this morning before it expired. We were told it was a 15-20 minute wait. 45 minutes later we were seated at a table. A server approached our table asked me what I wanted to drink & completely ignored my wife. Another server asked if we had been helped. We told her what he'd happened and she called the first server back to our table. She apologized, placed her hand on my shoulder & then placed her hand on my wife's shoulder. She then quoted that she didn't feel well & should have not come to work.
