I have zero complaints about this place. The staff were all lovely and attentive, i felt comfortable immediately and was served quickly. I had the lemon drizzle cake and a mochachino and both were delicious, and not too expensive. Its a casual atmosphere and then on the evening, quiet intimate and romantic. I don't know why, but I'm not a big fan of the Metro Cafe. The decor is nice and relaxed and sitting outside on a sunny day is grand- the outside tables and the ones near the big windows are great for people-watching, but somehow there doesn't seem to be much of an atmosphere here. The coffee is good, I really like the Latte, and price-wise they are pretty normal for Dublin standards as well. Maybe it's because their muffins aren't that great, or maybe because of the time the waitress literally dumped my sandwich on my table, but I only go here when Busyfeet and Coco next door has no free tables. read more

It didn't start out well when I sat down, the chair springs are so bad that I was at least a half foot lower down than those on the chairs in the restaurant. Then when I asked for skimmed milk, the waitress didn't bring it. The food was fairly basic, as a plain enough eater I ordered spicy wedges and bruschetta, I had thought nobody could get that wrong. Boy, was I wrong. Yes they could, the wedges were so greasy, soggy, flaccid and almost cold as to be revolting. The bruschetta was also greasy. Had to send the food back it was so poor. The girl who took it back was pleasant but the other staff looked disinterested to say the least. While the restaurant did comp the food, nobody from Management came to talk to us about anything. Would never go here again personally. Also the little food I did eat made me really unwell due to the amount of grease on the plate. read more

Came across here after wondering around the street. I can't speak for the food but it does look good and the mulled wine was great for 5 euros. Service was good. Reason for the 2/5? Me and a friend are visiting tourists, and are relying on wifi for navigation and communication. We asked for wifi since we aren't familiar with the city. The host or waiter who ushered us in from the street was very rude when we asked if they had wifi, his loud response was "We don't have wifi sorry, want to know why? -Long staring pause- Because we actually talk to each other here." with condescending laughter from the others in the cafe. I know it must be a pain having tourists asking for wifi but honestly could do without your condescending attitude and rude assumptions. Left a bad impression on us but we stayed anyways. You know I'm sure most of your income, comes from annoying tourists like us at least fake your contempt. read more

I've loved Metro for many years and recommended it to countless people. I was in there last Saturday for breakfast and was sorely disappointed. I had the Metro Mighty breakfast, my colleague had French Toast. Our food arrived alarmingly quickly and we both commented that it was too quick. We were right to be concerned, the food was not freshly cooked - at all. It was dry and tasteless. It's such a shame to see an institution like this drop its standards so low. I also had a Latte, and it was basically warm water - no flavour whatsoever, a really bad coffee. The waiter was ok, not the usual bubbly characters you get in there, but the guy who dropped down our food, just plonked it on the table without a word. Did not give a good impression. I'm disappointed to say that I think Metro has lost two customers. We both commented that we would not go back because of the precooked, reheated food and the poor service. Metro - please get your sh*t together. I can't be the only one noticing things like this. Please cook to order and stop serving pre cooked, re heated junk. read more

I really like the Metro Cafe, even though it's crowded almost every time of the day and week - but this only speaks for the cafe. Service is exceptional, prices moderate for the location and the coffee delicious. A nice little place for an early breakfast. I quite enjoyed my salmon and eggs bagel, but not all in my party were too happy: the bagel and cream cheese was a simple bagel with a tiny tub of cream cheese on the side, the toast with eggs and bacon was quite unfulfilling. So taking time to chose the menu is a must. A positive of this place is that you have an outside area for those rare sunny days. The coffee is also top notch. Went here with my boyfriend (who's from Dublin proper) while on holiday visiting his family. Food was great, and I was amazed by the fact there was only one very hardworking chef delivering brunch orders to about 50 customers. (The kitchen is at the entrance of the cafe and open layout, so I could see only one chef working.) I tried tipping out the chef since he seemed overworked, but the staff told me tips had to be divided between all staff, which rubbed me the wrong way; the chef seemed to be working disproportionately harder than the host who was ringing up bills maybe once every ten minutes. Any who, if you go here and see a hard working Asian dude cranking out orders, try giving him a tip! read more

I am a regular at Metro and I have to say I have never had bad food or bad coffee there. Sitting outside in the sunshine people watching with my friends is one of my favourite things to do in dublin. The only reason i took 1 star off is that they need to change their menu around more often and the whole place could do with a lick of paint. Saying that, its great! read more

Located on South William Street The Metro Cafe is a great place for a relaxing and delightful breakfast lunch or dinner, The waiting staff are so nice and friendly and really make you feel welcome from the second you arrive to the moment you leave you are greeted with a smile, The Chef in the Metro Cafe is brilliant as I have eaten here on a number of occasions and cant remember having a bad meal there, It is also extremely reasonably priced and just a pleasure to sit there with a cup of coffee and a toasted sandwich and just relax and just watch the world pass you by through the window. Popped in this morning for breakfast before work. Was met by a man behind the counter on the phone, clearly too engrossed in his call to even acknowledge my presence. After a couple of minutes, his colleague came along and I ordered a normal breakfast. He tapped blindly at the computer and I just stood there. When it clicked with him that I was ordering and not paying, he finally asked me to take a seat. You supposedly have a choice between scrambled and fried eggs and the colour of your toast. I wasn't asked about either. After ten minutes my coffee aririved. 15 minutes later, starving, I got up and walked out. This was absolutely pathetic from The Metro Cafe and its staff. A shame because this place was once great. Now three staff between them cannot conjure up a breakfast on a quiet morning. Awful. read more

I went here twice in one week while visiting Dublin! It's very good and although it's crowded, your food arrives quickly and it's an overall great experience. The staff is very nice and friendly! The grilled med is a delicious sandwich, the breakfast booster is a really good breakfast option (the granola bar that comes with it is delicious) and the pesto vegetable pasta is very good too. Dropped by here to meet a friend before heading off to Cork and was very impressed with the cafe! The servings were large and well priced. We both got the breakfasts baps and didn't feel that they needed anything added. And, the service was awesome! Everyone was helpful, quick and really friendly to chat with. The Metro Cafe is truly a gem amongst the overwhelming amount of restaurants in Dublin City. This petit Parisian style cafe serves some of the tastiest dishes I've come across with a particularly keen eye for good breakfast dishes. Upon my most recent visit, I indulged in their buttermilk pancakes, served with a side of crispy bacon and honeybutter. A delicate combination of sweet and savoury that works well and at a very affordable price. Before that, u had the pleasure of ordering their breakfast sandwich which consisted of bacon, peppered sausage, egg and Ballymaloe Relish all in a Waterford Blaa. It's quickly become my regular go to for an early morning snack and that, coupled with the ever friendly staff, have allowed Metro Cafe to become a part of my daily itinerary. I was born and raised in Los Angeles and I my sister and have been visiting Dublin every year for the past 10 years. Metro is a big part of our life when we're in Dublin. It's our favorite cafe in Dublin and let me just say that there are many great, charming cafe's in Dublin to choose from.There is something about Metro though that is so beautiful and alluring and thus has become our "go to" location to meet friends and discuss about the events the night before etc. They may not have the best food in the world but the latte's and pear danish are to DIE for! The staff is wonderful. The people watching is amazing and yes it's probably at one of the best "corners" in Dublin. It's just fantastic and I look forward to my visit here in less than 2 months for the holidays. read more

Our first meal in Ireland was at this neat little cafe in an area with a lot of cafes. The rain helped us decide on the Metro and we were glad it did. It became obvious pretty quickly that this was a place for hip young folks but we were welcomed warmly. The place had a fun and noisy atmosphere with more tables than we could ever cram in the same space in the States. My wife and I both had the potato and leek soup with fresh bread and of course tea. We followed it with apple streudel. The streudel was okay but not great. That said the soup was great! I like soups, even potato soups, and this was among the best. The fresh bread was also great. BUT - the service and atmosphere were OUTSTANDING. Our waitress was Nadia, from Italy, who was wearing denim hot pants over leggings with boots and a very retro vest. She was funny and attentive without being overbearing. After too much in time in Iraq this was a fun place with friendly people. I suspect if you are a visitor in this area you will choose a restaraunt much like we did - by chance - but this one is worth a try. We loved it. read more
