"I REALLY WANT TO SIT AT YOUR CAFE, BUT I REALLY DON'T WANT TO DRINK YOUR COFFEE.."
I really wish I could give this place a few more stars, but unfortunately they would need to pay attention to a few things.
The breakfast special is actually kind of nasty. OK, I was hungry the second time and had a craving for scrambled eggs and bacon, but I really shouldn't have ordered it.
Sorry guys but the bacon was undercooked (rubber bands?), the eggs are obviously made from powder and the pancakes are the worst carbon-copy cardboard things I ever tried. Also - get this - maple FLAVORED syrup? NO! That was proverbially the icing on the cake.
Well, apart from the average food, the baristas could do with some training. The last coffee I had there (an americano) was enough for me to swear off the place permanently. If I want coffee, I go two doors down to Taste and get it there.
Those people that think that the coffee is good here have either struck a lucky cup or must have been dreaming of something else when they drank it!
On the plus side, sitting at the tables outside is pretty much the place to be seen and watch people when the weather is good. Inside is a little 'worn-in' but is quite welcoming and clean.
The owner and his wife are really nice and the staff are all great and very helpful, which goes a long way. They are dog-friendly and the waiters have been known to keep an eye out and shoo beggars away, which is really a relief!
Some of the menu is worth going in for - e.g. the stew or toasted sandwiches.
I wish and hope that these guys will improve the food and coffee, so that I can add a couple more stars! read more
